Chapter Twenty

Omega exited the Final Egg, and flew high over the Mystic Ruins. He scanned his log, checking off the E-Series units he'd liberated, and noted that only two remained: Alpha and Gamma.

The battle robot had made acceptable progress, having tracked every robot down, even though he knew there were likely more out there. His number was 123; that meant indicating there were many, many more robots in his line. It was hard to count the number of Badniks that Doctor Robotnik had to process.

He didn't care to count how many Badniks he'd destroyed while hunting down Delta, Epsilon, and Beta. His priority wasn't counting; his focus was saving his brothers from the control of a power-hungry maniac he once served.

But Omega knew that after Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon, Robotnik had constructed 19 more units until Omega was the last one. In the time he'd known his brothers before meeting the pink hedgehog, he never bothered to ask for details on the whereabouts of E-107 or E-111 or any other unit.

Wherever they were, they were either in storage somewhere or had been likely destroyed in battle with Sonic.

Omega hovered over the ancient echidna temple, flying back towards the main area of the Mystic Ruins. He detected the presence of two life forms, spotting Doctor Robotnik flying towards Final Egg in his Egg Mobile, and Sonic by the temple. Sure enough, Sonic would soon be engaging the doctor in battle again.

And meanwhile, Omega would be finishing his mission to destroy Robotnik's Badniks and liberate the animals inside.

However, once he'd finished with Gamma and Alpha, what then?

What would his purpose be, aside from hunting down Badniks to liberate, aside from going after his own creator, Doctor Robotnik?

Was there more to life than just fighting?

Omega landed in the main area of Mystic Ruins near the edge of a cliff, overlooking the sea and surveying the horizon. The battle robot tuned into his data banks, scanning Robotnik's files that he hadn't purged, scanning for more E-series robots. He could pinpoint Gamma and Alpha, but there were no signs of any others, except for him.

He truly was the last unit; once he destroyed the remaining two E-series units, E-123 Omega would be the last E-Series unit. He would likely spend his days destroying everything in a blaze of glory until he eventually shut down.

At some point, the animal inside him had to be freed.

But right now, he had his mission to finish. Omega analyzed Gamma and Alpha's whereabouts, trying to pinpoint where they were now.

"BY ALL ESTIMATION, THEY ARE ON THE EGG CARRIER!" He buzzed.

Omega made his choice and checked his ammo. He had just about enough for his final mission. He fired up his thrusters and flew away from the Mystic Ruins, ready to fulfill his function and ensure the completion of his current objective.
