Arriving at the door to Eames' room, Goren hesitated for a while before indicating his presence and knocking.
He didn't yet know how he'd be received.
But he already had an idea.
He wouldn't be well received, and he could only blame himself.
Gathering his courage, he took a deep breath, raised the point, and knocked on the door.
With trembling fingers, he opened the door, stepped inside, closed the door behind him, and leaned with his back to the door, not daring to step forward.
He was too apprehensive to dare approach Eames.
He looked up, to see an Eames, who was there on her hospital bed, her back propped up against the pillow, staring out of the window.
She didn't move her face an inch, not looking at him, as if he hadn't come in.
He should have known that she wouldn't even turn to him when he entered, and that she'd pretend he wasn't there.
After what he'd done to her, how could it be otherwise.
But strangely enough...
He analyzed her facial features, but it was her eyes that struck him most.
It was empty, devoid of expression or feeling.
Which sent a chill down his spine.
Eames had lost the sparkle in her big hazel eyes.
Where had that little gleam gone that lit up his big eyes.
Had he destroyed that too.
My God.
How he hated himself.

But he had to do something, at least try, and try as best he could to repair the damage he'd done to her.
He wanted Eames alive, not this woman who was practically dead from all expressions.
So, not hesitating, he stepped away from the door and walked slowly towards Eames.
When he reached the bed, and saw that she still refused to turn her head towards him, he fell to his knees on the floor, and took her hands in his.
- I sincerely apologize...I'm sorry about the baby.
At his words, Eames turned her blank gaze towards him, realizing he was there, in front of her, and on his knees.
Had she misheard.
What had Goren just said to her.
A yes, he'd said...
The baby...
But what was Goren talking about.
Hadn't he made a mistake in his words.
Or had she misheard them.
It couldn't be possible.
You couldn't get pregnant in such a short space of time.
And yet...
The way he begged her to forgive him told him it was true.
What did it mean.
That she'd been pregnant, and lost the baby.
My God...
No.
It couldn't be true.
- The baby...
Eames spoke like an automaton, which made Goren's blood run cold.
My God...
What had he done.

This dead woman in a very much alive body was his result.
How ashamed he was.
And how he hated himself.
- Did I lose her...
At her words, Goren snapped out of his thoughts, and shook his head in denial.
Lost...
The baby.
Thanks to God, no.
And it wasn't thanks to him that she hadn't lost him.
She owed it to the child she was carrying, who had fought to live.
- The child is clinging to you.
So it was true...
She was expecting a baby.
How could she be.
In such a short time.
- It's all my fault... Goren clung desperately to her hands. I could have lost you both.
Lost them both...
So it was because she'd refused treatment that she could have lost this new life in her womb.
All because the father of her child had abandoned her, and she no longer felt able to go on without him.
Yes, Goren was partly responsible for her condition, but she was also responsible for the child.
If she'd known about the life inside her, perhaps she wouldn't have let herself die.
For she would have had a part of the man she loved.
But who had abandoned her.
But she would never have blamed the child for that.
Besides, Goren was punished enough as it was, and despite all the hurt he'd done her, she still loved him, and was ready to forgive him.
But only on one condition.

- You told me you'd never leave me again... Is it true...
Of course it was.
He wouldn't run away from his feelings.
And he would accept them, even if it scared the hell out of him.
And he would always stay close to her.
At least, if she'd let him.
- I won't run away anymore... And I'll stay close to you. He put his hand to the back of her neck, keeping his other hand in hers, and looked away in shame. Of course, if you still want me.
Always him...
She wanted to shout no.
But her heart told her yes.
That she always wanted him close to her.
A small smile spread across Eames's lips.
- So I'm willing to forgive you for the hurt you've caused me... But...
But...
Good God.
He didn't like that corn.
What was she going to say to him.
- Don't you dare do that to me again... Or I'll rip your heart out with my own hands.
She'd rip his heart out with her own hands...
He was willing to risk it.
- I don't understand how I can be so in love with a complete idiot.
Pardon...
A complete idiot...
Yes, Eames was right.
That's what he'd been.
But she'd also said she forgave him…

And above all, that she loved him.
And nothing meant more to him than her words.
But he had to be sure.
Sure she really did forgive him.
- You really do forgive me.
She nodded.
Then it was true.
God, he was happy.
Goren couldn't have been happier.
And to think he'd almost ruined everything.
All because he was a coward.
How could a woman as strong as Eames love a cowardly man like him.
It made no sense at all.
But for the future, he would try to change his ways, and have more courage, for Eames and the baby.
- Said Bobby... Eames put her slender fingers on his arm, patted it. Will you take me in your arms.
Hold her...
Uh...
He would have liked to.
But given her stout build...
Wouldn't the bed break if it had both their weights on it.
Not that Eames was overweight; on the contrary, she was a featherweight compared to him.
But Eames's weight, and especially hers...
It wasn't prudent.

- You don't want to...
It's not that he didn't want to.
But his weight...
At the sadness painted on Eames' face, he dropped his thoughts, and came to lie down beside her, making the mattress sag under his weight, and an Eames who with a big smile on her lips, came to lay her head against his chest, snuggling up against him.
Then, with delicacy, he wrapped his arms around her waist, held her close, and rested his chin on her golden hair.
- Stay like that, little angel.

- It's this room, Logan.
Arriving at the room the nurse had indicated, Barek knocked on the door, opened it and entered, followed by Logan.
But both stopped at the vision unfolding before their eyes.
Before them lay Goren on the hospital bed, cradling Eames in his arms, and the two of them sleeping happily with smiles on their faces.
Good heavens...
If Barek had expected this.
Well, this was a surprise.
A turn of events.

Barek had hoped that maybe Goren would realize that he needed Eames as much as she needed him.
And there he was, right next to her.
- We'd better get Barek out of here.
At Logan's words, Barek snapped out of his thoughts, turned to Logan, nodded, and they both left the room.
Barek carefully closed the door behind her, trying to make as little noise as possible.
She didn't want to wake them.
So the idiot had finally realized he couldn't live without Eames.
Barek was pleased with her intervention.
The fact that she'd told Goren about Eames' condition had undoubtedly tipped the scales in her favor.
And if Barek had listened to Eames, Goren would never have known about her condition, and maybe he wouldn't be here right now, next to her.
And God knows what would have happened, if she hadn't acted against Eames' disagreement.
A good thing done at last.
