The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - Gerudo Town day theme
He'd set his eyes on Gerudo Town, a firm determination in his gaze. His feet felt rejuvenated after experiencing some of his lost memories, and he knew he must hasten his pace if he was to save the land.
Sure, the threat of the Calamity had been looming over the remnants of the kingdom for one hundred years, but he wasn't going to purposefully make the Princess wait any longer then she had to.
After all, there was no guarantee that she could safely contain Ganon for another year more.
Perhaps that's why he felt so anxious to do everything within his power to grow stronger, to save those that remained, and to bring peace to the four Devine Beasts as soon as possible.
That was likely the reason behind him forgetting that rest was just as important to a journey as was reaching his destination or achieving his goals.
Either way, if he was going to rest, it was going to be after he finished with his business here at the town of the tall strong women tribe.
His eyes widened in relief as the gate to the town appeared over the dunes, his thighs and calves burning from running through the waves of sand, his feet finding no true solid ground save for the old and seemingly rarely used sandstone road.
Upon reaching the gates, he was greeted by two tall and powerful looking Gerudo women, both armed and armored in traditional looking uniforms that left their stomachs and arms bare, likely to accommodate for the heat of the sun.
"Sav'aaq, Hylian Voe! What brings you to our town?" The first women spoke sharply, staring down at him seeing as she was eight feet tall.
He smiled kindly up at her, his eyes sparkling in the light of the setting sun. He was mostly uncertain of what language she used to address him, but the last thing she said he got, obviously. "I'm here to speak with your Chief, it's about the Devine Beast." Link spoke lightly, slightly out of breath from the run.
The guard women's eyes seemed to grow heavy with exhaustion at his words, glancing to her companion. "I'm sure you must be worried about the danger it poses, but worry not, our chief is working on resolving the matter." She explained.
"Oh, that's not why I'm here." Link waved his hands as if to clear out that line of thinking of hers. Her brows furrowed in confusion, unsure what he meant. He placed his hands on his hips, relishing in the shade her tall body offered him. "I'm came here to stop the rampant Devine Beast. I'm here to help." He clarified.
She blinked, looking his body over, before glancing at her fellow guard woman.
Then she began laughing, face flushed as she failed to contain her giggles. The other woman was deeply amused too, finding the whole situation hilarious.
"O-Oh! That's a good one, little voe! I haven't laughed like that in some time!" She laughed, quickly gathering her emotions under control once more. "You don't look like a jokester, but it seems you've deceived me."
"Jokes aside, what do you seek with the Gerudo?" The other guard asked, face still warm behind her mask.
…
…
…
"To speak with your chief about helping bring peace to the rampaging Devine Beast…" He repeated what he said, blinking blankly up at her.
Their expressions slowly melted from amusement to irritation as they realized that he was being serious about meeting with thrower chief.
"Look here little voe. No men are allowed within the walls of this town, you should count yourself lucky that your presence is tolerated within such close proximity to its borders." She spoke sharply, slamming her spear down on the ground as if to make her point.
"Then can you please let her know that I am here to help? I'm the only one that can stop the beasts." He asked again, hopeful.
Their eyebrows rose. "Oh? And who might you be, my cute little voe?" She asked condescendingly, bending down at the waist to stare him right in the eyes, flaunting her tough body and height advantage over him.
He blinked, nonplussed by her threatening posture or intimidating presence. "My name is Link, Champion to Princess Zelda of Hyrule." He stated, his tone making it clear that he believed every word he spoke.
She, however, wasn't hearing it.
"Enough with the lies! The man you speak of is dead, you bring shame upon yourself for using his name! Now, begone with you!" She snapped harshly, slamming her spear into the ground.
"You dare to approach our chief bearing the name of the Hero, how dare you! You are unworthy to walk even on these very sands!" The other woman snarled, slamming her spear into the ground.
"Count yourself lucky that we don't banish you from our land for your transgressions! Now, begone!" The first exclaimed heatedly, shoving her spearhead in his face to prove her point.
Link blinked blankly up at them as they surrounded him, brandishing their weapons in righteous fury. The commotion seemed to draw the attention of others as well, whether it be Hylian women, women from the bird tribe of the Ruto, or even more Gerudo guards.
Yet even in the face of a public spectacle, and the danger the guards posed against him for a simple misunderstanding, he stood undeterred, eyes filled with an unwavering determination.
That determination made him dangerous to anyone that dared to stand in the way of his quest to save his kingdom.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm here to speak with your chief." He spoke firmly, hands on his hips. "If you won't let me speak to her, I'll speak to her myself, with or without your permission." He said confidently, staring proudly up at the tall strong woman, his determination unwavering.
The guard's sneered down at him, offended that he'd think he'd just waltz on into their town without a fight, especially after his open lies.
"Leave immediately!" She snapped, the blade of her spear an inch from his nose.
He sighed, deciding that it couldn't be helped.
He came there to speak with their chief, and he wasn't taking one single step back until he did.
And, unfortunately, that meant that he was going to have to get a little rough with the people of the kingdom he was sworn to protect.
He did feel bad about it, he really did.
But that wasn't enough to stop him.
He closed his eyes, sucking in a deep breath through his nose, feeling the cooling twilight air fill his lungs, before his eyes snapped open.
His hands snapped forward, grabbing the pole of the spear, before he twisted his hips and in a show of strength that left the second woman speechless, he tossed the first guard, spear and all overhead and into the sand outside the front gate. Sand exploded everywhere, the woman that was previously standing proudly over him now laid out on her back.
The second guard, momentarily stunned, growled as she went to apprehend him, only for him to grab her spear and pull her towards him, tripping her sending her into the sand beside her companion. The first woman had begun to get back up, only for the second to crash into her, sending both tumbling.
With the path cleared, he started walking forward, the chief's building directly ahead of him.
The people of the town all watched in a mixture of awe and disbelief as a man single-handedly dismantled the gate guards without harming either of them.
"Halt! You're breaking the law!" Two more guards rushed him, spears glinting in the light of the setting sun.
"I'm here to speak with your chief! I can help!" Link exclaimed, hoping that would calm them down.
Unfortunately, it did not. He felt like rolling his eyes as he ducked the first spear, pressed his palms to the woman's stomach, and used her forward momentum to flip her over his head.
He quickly spun around, grasped the second spear and yanked, pulling the guard off of her feet where he tripped her, sending her onto her companion.
"I'm really sorry!" He apologized, before quickly making his way inside. More guards came rushing out, all brandishing their weapons.
"Halt! Don't you move another step, or you will be leaving in binds!" One shouted.
Suddenly he found himself surrounded by six guards, all tall and powerfully trained women.
And they weren't playing around.
Unfortunately for them, neither was he.
"Please move. I'm here to speak with your chief about the Devine Beast. If you don't move, I will make you." He stated again.
"I'd like to see you try!" They boasted haughtily.
"I warned you." He sighed. He quickly slung his shield off of his back, parrying the spear thrust out of his way, before spinning around to kick the second and third spear out of the hands of their users. While still midair, he wrapped his legs around the fourth spear and twisted his whole body, sending the fourth woman into the fifth.
He sidestepped the final guard's attempt at skewering him, grabbing her spear by the pole and shifting his weight, lifted her up above his head before dropping her on the first guard that had been attempting to get back up.
And suddenly the fight was over. He dusted his hands, turning to face the throne.
That is when a champion of a woman stepped forward, blocking his path with a might great-sword.
"How dare you! You will go no further!" The woman cried out in righteous anger, stomping her feet as she drew her weapon. "You have made yourself an enemy of the Gerudo, and will now suffer the consequences of your actions! And I, Captain of the Gerudo guard will see to it!"
Behind him the six guards began to climb to their feet, shaking off the head rattling he'd given them on his way in. Within a few moments, he was going to be entirely surrounded.
"Buliara! Enough!" A new voice shouted out. Suddenly all action ceased, the guards all turning to face the person behind said voice. Buliara turned back to the throne, speaking to a woman Link couldn't see from his position.
"C-Chief Riju?! This man has broken our law, defied our town with his presence, and has made a mockery of our culture! He has dared to lay his hands on us, and has approached your throne without a summons! He should be punished!" The woman declared back, turning to face Link once more.
However…
"Oh? And so you would like him to embarrass your guards again?" Riju asked, eyebrow raised in question. "I witnessed this man make his way all through my town, dismantling every guard in his path, and enter my house without struggle. He did so without raising a single blade to your women, and has completely outmatched them all in strength and cunning." She spoke seriously, leaning to her right side atop her throne.
Her eyes gained a curious glint when she finally lay them on the man responsible for breaking into her town. "If he was an evil man, I see no power here that could safely stop him. If you wish to fight him, I will not stop you. But I will speak with him once he has won the battle." She said with a smirk, eying the Hylian up and down with a glint in her eye.
Link suddenly swallowed, uncertain.
Yet he steeled himself, and approached her, stopping before her throne a safe distance away, lest he anger her guardian. He took a knee before her, to show her the respect she deserved as the chief of the desert people.
"Lady Riju, I've come to help bring peace to the Devine Beast. I can stop it's rampage, and bring your people comfort." He spoke, head down.
Riju hummed, uncrossing her legs, before crossing them over the other way around. "Oh, and may I ask who you may be? I've had many claim that they can calm Devine Beast Vah Naboris, but no one has been even remotely successful in that venture." She spoke sharply.
He rose his gaze up to her, a fiery determination ablaze in his eyes. It was so powerful, so sure, that it gave her pause and made her heart skip a beat.
"My name is Link, chosen Hero of the Sword that seals the darkness, and Champion to Princess Zelda of Hyrule." He introduced firmly, hoping that his words would convey what he needed them to.
Riju's eyes widened, the name giving her heart hope.
But she'd been disappointed before, so she was skeptical. So, she had a test for him, one she hoped he would pass. The legends said the Hero had fallen in combat, but a different story was passed down through her family, that the man had instead been taken away to a secret place where he would be placed into a deep and very long rest. If he knew as much, that would make his words and his presence here before her that much more convincing.
"That man was said to have died one hundred years ago. If you are who you say you are, then how are you here now? Where have you been for one hundred years?" She asked sharply, eyes narrowed down at him.
"I am unsure as to the details behind my disappearance, but all I know is that I awoke within the Shrine of Resurrection one hundred years later. And now I stand before you." He explained, tone firm. "Let me help. Please. Let me fix what has happened because of the past, let me stand tall now and bring peace to Hyrule. I need your help to do that." He urged genuinely, eyes pleading that she see reason.
"Absolutely unacceptable! I do not care who you say you are! No man is allowed in our land, nor will we accept help from an outsider like you. Vah Naboris is our problem, we will handle it as such." Buliara exclaimed heatedly.
"I was asking Lady Riju, not you, Captain Buliara." Link stated firmly, glancing at the woman out of the corner of his eyes.
"Y-You dare?! The nerve!"
Ignoring her Captain's outrage, Riju contemplated what Link said.
If he truly was who he said he was, then he would most certainly be capable of calming the Devine Beast. More than that, he may also be able to bring peace to the desert, something that they have been without for one hundred years.
"I see. If you are who you say you are, then I would gladly accept your help." Riju stated, her tone leading as if there was more to say.
"Lady Riju?! You must see the foolishness of such a-" Buliara went to say, but was quieted by her raised hand for silence.
"However, mere words will not satisfy me nor my people. Action will." Riju said, leaning forward a bit on her throne. "If you are who you say you are, then you will find my task for you a simple thing."
His eyes widened in question, watching from where he sat kneeling before her as she uncrossed her legs, standing up. He didn't say anything as she slowly approached him, stopping as she towered over him, easily a head and shoulders taller then him. His eyes widened as she kneeled down in front of him, cupping his chin.
"If you are truly the Hero chosen by the Sword that seals the darkness, then, even currently lacking that blade, you should be able to retrieve something for me." She spoke lowly, relishing the feeling she gained as his cheeks warmed slightly underneath her touch.
"What is it?" He asked, eyes locked with her own.
She frowned. "An item that was stolen from me, by the Yiga Clan. It is a sacred treasure, and without it we cannot approach Vah Naboris. If you find that, then we will talk about calming Vah Naboris, together." She clarified, pushing his chin up slightly, grinning at what she saw.
At this point, the Buliara signaled her guards to return to their posts, seeing as the Hylian had no intention of leaving, and Riju had no plans of removing him either.
Link blinked, having heard exactly what she'd said. Yet, something about it had him questioning one thing. "Why are you allowing me to help? Your people seem to hate me, why do you feel differently?" He asked curiously.
If possible, her grin widened just a tad more than it was, the glint in her eyes sending a mixture of warning signals he seemed incapable of picking up on.
"Because I am a Gerudo, and Gerudo respect true power. You managed to overpower all of my guard without raising a blade to any of them, and fought your way to me with your strength, just so you could talk to me. That…" She paused, brushing her thumb over his cheek. "-takes courage." She spoke, cheeks warming as she looked him over. She stood up suddenly, standing tall over him. She extended her hand down to him, inviting him to take it.
He paused, looking up to her for a moment, before grabbing her hand, allowing her to assist him to his feet. Now standing, he still had to crane his neck a bit to look her in the eyes.
"Now go. The vile Yiga have been a blight upon me and my people for years. Go and show them why opposing the Gerudo, and the rest of Hyrule was a foolish decision, and the last one they will ever make." She said, before returning to her throne.
He watched her walk back, eyes glued to her, before nodding and making his way out of the town. The sun had set by now, which would make his journey through the desert much easier in the cold wind of nightfall.
Riju watched him walk on out of her town, keeping her eyes on him the entire way, until he left her lone of sight.
She was aware of her personal guard, Buliara approach her from the side, worry and distrust in her gaze.
"Why do you trust this… this man?" She asked, almost accusatorially.
Riju sighed, sinking into her throne. "Do you have a better idea? We've been struggling for some time, and this man comes along promising to fix it at the expense of his own safety, not asking for anything in return. I don't care whether or not he is that swordsman hero from one hundred years ago or his descendant, if he can do what he claims, then I'll take his help." She expressed, a glint in her eyes.
Buliara's expression faltered, the mighty woman pinching the bridge of her nose as she felt a massive headache forming.
Let it not be said that her chief also felt like letting this so called Hero do work for her people because she was massively attracted to his apparent immense physical strength and similarly great gentleness. He was strong enough to lay her guards out without bringing them any real harm, at most a mild headache. All he'd done was ruin their pride, something they held high.
And on the off chance that this man was indeed the hero from one hundred years prior, then his help would be most welcome, and very appreciated.
"He's gone now, you may stop smiling, Lady Riju…" Buliara sighed, seeing as her chief was incapable of removing the pleased grin from her face.
Her flushed cheeks most certainly weren't from the heat of the desert…
Buliara feared that if this swordsman spoke the truth, and was indeed the Hero chosen by the sword that seals the darkness, that he was not escaping Gerudo town unscathed…
After leaving Lady Riju behind, he'd set out immediately to track down the Yiga's hideout. Upon reaching the front gate, the guards he'd laid out stared at him with a mixture of embarrassment, shame, and something else.
He smiled lightly up at the tall women, cheeks warmed. "I'm sorry for getting so rough with you, but I wasn't taking no as an option." He apologized genuinely, staring them up in the eyes.
"Tsk, you merely caught us off guard. Try that again, little Hylian, and you won't find it so easy." She boasted proudly, thrusting her chest out slightly.
Although, as she said this, her cheeks warmed considerably as he stared unblinking at her.
Ignoring her companion's flirty boasting, the second guard glanced down at him, giving him her full attention. "I overheard your conversation with our Lady Riju. If you are to hunt down the Yiga, then you must head north from here. Once you reach the mountain, follow the wall to the west until you come across a canyon entrance. That is where the vile Yiga have hidden their base, somewhere in that canyon." She explained helpfully. "And on the off chance you come across one of our own, please help her, she's been missing for a day now…"
His expression hardened at the news, before he nodded firmly. "I'll keep my eyes out for her." He promised, before setting out on his journey…
