Zen was walking towards U.A., the prestigious hero academy. He stopped for a second to look up at the school's logo. Taking a deep breathe, he resolved to train himself to be his absolute best at U.A. That was when he heard a voice from behind him.

"Watch out!" A girl said as she was full sprinting towards him.

Zen didn't even get a chance to move out of the way before she crashed into him. The girl landed on top of him, having narrowly avoided headbutting him.

"Ouch." The girl said, lifting herself up a bit. Her face was a mere inch from Zen's.

"What in the world? Where's the fire?" Zen said, coming out of a daze. He saw the girl staring at him, with him returning the gaze. She was beautiful, her pink eyes matching her pink hair.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. Let me get off of you." The girl said, rolling to the side. She then stood up.

"It's all okay." Zen said, using his wind to push him up.

"Well that's nifty." The girl commented.

"Comes in handy." Zen said.

"I guess I should introduce myself, since I ran into you. Name's Kitsuna." Kitsuna told Zen.

"I'm Zen. Nice to run into ya." Zen said, extending a hand.

"Nice to run into you, too, Zen." Kitsuna chuckled, shaking his hand.

"So, you excited to try and join U.A.?" Zen asked, kind of awkwardly.

"Yeah. I've got a lot to prove. To myself, if anyone else." Kitsuna replied.

"Wanna grab a seat together?" Zen asked, pointing towards the school.

"Totally. We better hurry if we wanna get good spots." Kitsuna said.

Zen and Kitsuna walked inside, finding a pair of seats in the center of the auditorium. They talked for a hit about heroes and who they admired, eventually getting interrupted by Present Mic. Present Mic explained the two exams to them. He then sent all the examinees to the written exam hall.

Zen finished the written exam quickly, waiting a bit for the other kids to finish. After everyone was done, they were led to their respective battle centers. Zen looked around at his group, hoping to find Kitsuna, but had no such luck. He then saw another kid pepping himself up. The kid was saying something about his little brother.

"Hey, man. You okay?" Zen asked, having walked over.

"I'm nervous. I've got a lot riding on this. I've gotta get in." The boy said.

"Family troubles?" Zen asked.

"How'd you know?" The boy asked.

"I heard you mutter something about your brother. I didn't mean to eavesdrop." Zen replied.

"That's okay. But yeah, I'm doing this for my little brother." The kid told Zen.

"I see. I've got faith in ya. You'll pull this off." Zen encouraged.

"Thanks. What's your name?" The boy asked.

"I'm Zen. Nice to meet ya." Zen said.

"Ketsugi." Ketsugi told him.

They then heard Present Mic tell them that they didn't have a countdown. Then the doors to the arena opened.

"Let's do this, Ketsugi." Zen said, punching his shoulder in a friendly manner. Ketsugi nodded in approval.

The examinees raced into the arena. Zen shot forward, noticing Ketsugi close behind him. After making their way in a bit, they split apart. Zen turned left, finding a variety of villain bots. Ice spikes shot from Zen's hands, piercing the bots, disabling most of them. He rushed one of the remaining bots, crushing it with his metal manipulation. Zen grabbed one of the bot's legs and used it as a spear, throwing it like a javelin at a few bots who where lined up. He threw a few more ice spikes at the remaining bots, then went to find more. As he was searching for more bots, he saw Ketsugi get surrounded. Zen landed beside him.

"You okay?" Zen asked.

"Yeah, I just tripped up a bit." Ketsugi replied.

"There's a lot over here, huh." Zen said.

"More than I can handle alone." Ketsugi stated.

"I gotcha, bud." Zen said, fire beginning to flare from his hand.

Zen shot the torrent of flames, melting the two bots in front of him. Ketsugi caught his second wind as he gained a speed boost, kicking a couple of the other bots in the head, knocking their circuits loose. Zen and Ketsugi fought together for a moment, disabling and destroying the bots that had surrounded Ketsugi.

"I'll see ya later." Zen said, waving to Ketsugi.

"Later man." Ketsugi said, waving back.

Zen raced off again. As he ran, he heard Present Mic say there was only a couple minute left. He then saw the arena trap bots get unleashed. Counting up his current points, Zen figured he had a little room to play around. He made his way to one of the arena traps, using his wind to jump to the bot's head. He looked over the entire school campus, seeing the other battle centers. At one of them, he saw a pink glow moving around, and figured that it may be Kitsuna. He then refocused on his own exam, looking down at the arena trap he was standing on. Using his metal manipulation again, he opened a hole in it's head, sticking his arm inside. Ice flowed from his palms, filling the bots head. The spikes of ice broke through the bot's head, disabling it. Zen jumped down, using his wind to make a safe landing. As his feet touched the ground, Present Mic announced that the exam was over. All the examinees began to leave, with those who needed medical attention recieving it.

A Few Weeks Later

Zen was at home, playing with Jina. He was making smalls flames dance in his palm, while Jina tried replicating them. He smiled at her attempts, encouraging her to try harder. Yuko came in, holding a letter from U.A.

"Zen!" Yuko said to her son.

With neither having noticed their mother walk in, they both jumped. The flame in Jina's hand also flared up.

"Woah." Zen said to the flare.

"Your letter!" Yuko said.

"U.A.? Finally!" Zen said, standing up.

Yuko handed the envelope to Zen, who began opening it. He pulled a hologram puck from the envelope. Putting it on the table, he pressed the play button. The school's principal, Nezu, appeared. Jina let out a small screech.

"Ah, a rat!" Jina said, hiding behind Zen. He placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Greetings, I am Principal Nezu. I am here to present your scores for both the written and practical exams. You were an exceptional case, recieving a perfect score of the written exam. For the practicals, points were divided into two categories, combat points and rescue points. You received 81 combat points, and 27 rescue points, giving you a grand total of 108 points. Congratulations on being accepted in the Hero Academia!" The hologram of Nezu then stopped.

"108 points, Zen? Did you save some for the other students?" Yuko said, nudging her son.

"27 rescue points, huh. Probably from when I helped Ketsugi." Zen said to himself.

"Yay! Big brother's gonna be a hero!" Jina said, bringing Zen and Yuko back to Earth.

"Yes!" Zen and Yuko said in tandem.

"I'm finally gonna start my road to be a hero." Zen said, hugging his mother and sister.
