Antonio was busy playing outside. Animals of different families were flanking him as he skipped through the streets of Encanto. The curly-haired boy seemed like he was walking with each step different from the last. It would start with a bounce, then a skip…it was mostly because of the different critters he had to avoid stepping on. He has been busy talking to his furry friends to notice that he was already a good distance away from his house. He looked around to see a familiar shop at a distance. Now that he wasn't so preoccupied, he realized just how much people were whispering about him. It's nothing bad though. Few of them even gave him kind smiles.
They're probably just wondering what I'm doing here alone. Antonio laughed at himself knowing he didn't do it on purpose. He also thought that fate had a great sense of humor if he ended up here of all places.
Crack!
The boy looked up just in time to see the lightning that followed the crack of thunder.
"Uh oh"
Antonio asked all his furry friends to go home before the weather got worse. They began to scurry away with cheerful sounds that must've been goodbyes for the boy. Well, he thought as he reached the familiar porch while avoiding the increasing downpour. Guess I will have a reason to pay a visit.
"Hello!"
Diego blinked. The older boy had to lower his head to meet the owner of the voice. Once more, Diego was put in a situation wherein he doesn't have any clue as to what to do. The youngest Madrigal was on their porch smiling brightly while looking up at him.
"So…you here with anybody?" Diego looked around to check if the boy had indeed come to their home with nothing but a stuffed tiger to accompany him. He was right.
Antonio shook his head with a mischievous glint in his eye.
"Can I come inside?"
The older boy sighed. Despite his sister's efforts, it was pretty obvious that their house had some sort of mysterious Madrigal magnet. He invited the little boy inside.
Solana was having a hard time getting home due to her umbrella getting caught by the strong winds. She hasn't made it home in time before the storm hit. No words could describe the relief she felt when she finally reached the front porch. Her clothes were soaked and her hair dripped. She placed the umbrella down to dry and moved to knock on the door. It opened before she could.
"Finally, you're back!" Her eldest brother looked like he was waiting for a while.
"Storm kept slowing me down" She smiled.
As soon as Solana walked past Leo she was ambushed by a mop of brown curls. A few moments later she found herself knocked to the floor with Antonio's arms around her neck.
"LANA! I MISSED YOU!"
Solana held the boy by his shoulders to look at him properly before her face morphed into a wide grin.
"Antonio! I've missed you as well" She hugged him tighter.
It was at that moment that she understood why Leo looked like he was waiting for so long. Taking a glance at the living room, she saw Diego wearing a sheepish smile. Solana couldn't help the small laugh that bubbled in her throat. Her brothers weren't particularly good with children. Or so they think. She thought they were very kind and caring enough to be in the company of children. It was just that the only child they were used to was Solana herself. And as her mother liked to say, I'm pretty sure Lana was born an adult. Then again, they were probably overthinking it. Lana was pretty sure Dolores was here to pick up something from her mom's shop. Though, Elena was going to stay at her mother-in-law's for the rest of the weekend with her husband. Lana shook her head. The girl probably got excited.
"Are you hungry? I still have some cookies left over" She nudged the kid. Receiving a lot of very excited yeses.
Diego followed them to the dining area. The sheepish look was still on his face which made Solana frown as she served cookies for the little one.
"What's with that look?"
Before he could answer, Antonio thanked Solana for the delicious treat. Though it sounded more like,
"Thunk yyaaaaurrrrrr tha wash yum"
Solana smiled gratefully.
"Dolores found her package?" She looked between her brothers and the little boy. One by one their expressions began to drop. Solana frowned and Diego was the first to recover.
"I was about to tell you about that…I just found him alone waiting outside about an hour ago"
The girl stopped her movements and looked at them with a horrified expression while Antonio winced. Leo just raised his hands as if to say that it was no way his fault but Diego's. To be fair, he was just taking a shower. Imagine his surprise when he saw a little kid sitting alone on their living room sofa while his brother was leaning on the corner having no idea what to say to the curly haired boy.
Solana let out a stressed sigh.
"Please tell me your parents at least know you're here" She turned to the boy who was still stuffing his face with soft chocolate chip cookies.
When all she received was another wince. She immediately moved to go to upstairs.
"Where are you going?" Leo called after her.
"To go change clothes! Antonio and I need to leave immediately!"
"The storm's not really getting better Lana"
The girl loves her brothers but sometimes she wanted to literally knock some sense into their heads. Slowing her movements, she took a few steps back so she could look at the boys to their eyes. Letting out an annoyed sigh she calmly said,
"Leo, Diego. Why do you think the weather's not getting better?"
Solana looked at the little boy sitting on the table. Her brothers followed her eyes.
"oh" Diego let out.
"Oh no" Leo slapped his forehead.
The girl then continued to rush upstairs hoping Pepa wasn't to stressed about not knowing where her youngest went. Feeling like the fate of Encanto rests on her shoulders, which it probably did, Solana quickly grabbed dry clothes and jacket.
