What Happened?

Okay first off, I deeply apologize for the lack of updates. The reason is that after so many disappointing updates on D2, I just slowly lost interest and it was a struggle to write content for a game that you lost interest in. Nonetheless, I am determined to finish this series (yes, series, not this 'book', series) and although updates won't be as fast, updates 'will' come. Just, please be patient with me lol. Anyway, thank you for the wait! ^_^

When Hush saw Bright-Protector-Nine attack Friend-But-Be-Wary-Odoratta, all she could do was stand there, mouth gaping open as the two fought it out, even when Odoratta practically lifted Nine and crashed through the walls of the nursery. Coughing as the dust and debris cleared around her, Hush barely caught the sounds of the infant worms resonating in her ears as she blinked through the fog, just barely catching the familiar glowing yellow of optic of Trusted-Nurturer-Crystalline pop into view.

"We have to get out of here."

But, Hush hesitated, The babies.

"They are all fine." She heard Crystalline snap, "But right now, I don't think it's safe to stick around when Nine and Odoratta are fighting." The child Guardian then saw her Ghost's lavender shell shift, bobbing towards the exit of the nursery, leading away from the chaos, "Come on."

Hesitating once more, Hush couldn't help but turn her eyes back to the hole where she had watched Nine and Odoratta disappear, crossing her fingers together as she fidgeted.

"Hush, do not even think about it." She turned her eyes back towards Crystalline, easily spotting the stern and worried look in her lone optic, "I know you want to help, but you have to remember that Nine is an Exo built from the shell of the Traveler and Odoratta is a spawn between a Hive Wizard 'and' a Guardian. It's too dangerous for you to intervene."

That is when annoyance rose to the surface, intermingling with her worry as Hush couldn't help but narrow her eyes at Crystalline, the edges of her lips dipping downwards. She was sick of it, sick of being treated like as though she was defenseless, like as though she would crumble easily if she were to be exposed to simple words.

That was not even close to the truth.

True, she had fell under being simply shoved, knocked back at the wrong time, or harsh words were enough to send her to tears, but Hush always forcers herself back onto her feet, knowing too well that wallowing about too long is hazardous. She did after all, still remembers her time living with the nomadic Awoken that had lived outside of the walls.

You can cry when someone you lost dies or scream whenever injury you gain, but in the end, you have to force yourself onto your feet, carry your own weight whenever the clan leaves their temporary homes. Otherwise, the dangers of the Wilds would make quick work of you. And Hush was not left out of the strict but understandable machinations of the nomadic Awoken, even with her fragile body.

As such, with a huff, the child Guardian turned her back towards Crystalline and marched her way through the crumbling wall, ignoring the squawk of surprise from her Ghost.

"Hush!? Where are you going!? Get back here!"

Continuing to disregard the lavender Ghost's words, Hush instead clambered over the debris before scanning her surrounding, attempting to find any clues of where Nine and Odoratta had scuffled away. However, the child Guardian didn't have to wait long as a screeching cry echoed from her right, causing Hush to snap her attention down a hall, only to see another gaping hole to the side. Her eyes brightening as she nodded once in satisfaction, Hush then started to make her way towards it, hearing the familiar hum of Crystalline following not too far behind her.

Approaching of where the fighting was currently takes place, Hush then felt her chest twist, her mind whirling as she attempted to find the next course of action. Jump in between and summon a Ward in hopes that it would be enough to block their attacks? Upon moments of contemplation, the child mentally shook her head. Confident she maybe in her Ward, Hush knows enough that both Bright-Protector-Nine and Friend-But-Be-Wary-Odoratta were not 'normal' under any circumstance. More than likely they would break through her bubble and continue on with their scuffle.

She then thought about a gun, musing over the sidearm that was currently in her Vault. It was a gift, from Grandpa-But-Not-Grandpa-Pluto, who muttered under his breath for her not to tell Papa as he slipped the weapon into her hands where she promptly hid behind her back for Crystalline to take in. It would be later when she was under his care where the Exo Hunter would explain that the gun was made for her fragile build, the backfire of the weapon not strong enough to cause serious damage to herself but strong enough to break through basic armor.

Basic armor, right.

There would be no doubt Nine and Odoratta would have more than just 'basic' armor on their body, and even if she were to aim for their exposed heads, it would do little against the strong plating of an Exo and the sturdy carapace of a Hive Knight.

Shaking her head, Hush then thought about the knife that she had received from Papa back during the Dawning, remembering his words as he explained the Awoken craft upon the blade and handle. Although a bit big considering her stature, Hush is capable of wielding it, and she had practiced with the help of Human-But-Trustworthy-Angel with basic offense and defense. But of course, what can a knife, even Awoken made, can do against brawling individuals who were considered beyond what is considered normal.

Heaving out a frustrated sigh at her own words, Hush then came to a pause as she heard shouting, perking as she recognized the familiar voice of Knight permeating through the hole.

Did he somehow regain control?

That would be good news then, considering that Friend-And-Caretaker-Shining Knight was more of – what did Papa call him? – a scholar than a warrior.

At first, relieved at the prospect that the violence would finally end, Hush then heard sobbing emit from the room, sending waves of bewilderment through her mind.

"Sounds like they're done fighting." It was Crystalline, the Ghost having come to a pause just over her shoulder, her voice relieved but wary. Hush then heard her let out a defeated sigh, "Let's see how they are doing." A short pause, "Carefully."

Unable to stop a smile forming onto her face from her small victory, the child Guardian simply nodded to confirm that she had heard Crystalline's words before moving forward. As she made her way to the new 'doorway' in the hall, Hush then heard more voices, voices that were clearly unfamiliar, and judging from the stern and hushed tones, they weren't too happy.

"Great, they brought their fight into a room of Revenants."

Hearing Crystalline mutter under her breath, Hush couldn't help but suck in a nervous breath. Although she had long forgiven the Awoken Revenant for the matter that it was a misunderstanding, she still remembers just how clearly things had quickly escalated. His questions, his demand for answers, and the way he grabbed her roughly when she was unable to respond. Hush could not help that she was now going to enter a room full of them, alone.

She blinked.

No, not alone.

At first discernable amongst the many voices that she heard through the hole, Hush was able to pinpoint Day's voice, the Ghost's soft tone all too familiar to the child Guardian. Shoving aside the thought of just when and how they got to their Guardian first before Hush could even realize that they were missing, Hush took in another breath before finally taking a step inside, feeling Crystalline's tugs of concern as she entered.

The first thing that caught her attention was Odoratta, the Hive halfling still in his hulking form as he sat upon the floor, leaning against the wall as many of the Revenants gathered around him, fussing over his condition. Realizing that their attention was elsewhere, Hush took tentative steps further in and decided to take the opportunity to gain a better look at Odoratta and what he claims as his 'original' form.

Just like the Hive Wizard she had seen back in that dark room, his chitin was white, almost glowing under the lighting of the room. And his size, Hush's eyes widen as she realizes that he easily dwarfed many of the Chosen present in the room, even when seated, and now she understood why he prefers appearing more 'human' than what he originally looked like. At first, impressed and curious at his Hive form, it was quickly quashed as Hush lifted her eyes up to his face only to spot the left side charred, the white chitin black as a hand covers any sign of injury that would have been exposed.

"First time in a while since I have last seen anyone mark Odoratta like that," Hush couldn't tell if Crystalline was either impressed or worried, "then again, Nine isn't exactly just 'anyone'."

Hearing his name, Hush then perked up, tearing her eyes away from Hive hybrid and searching the room for any sign of the aforementioned Exo. It didn't take her long to spot a familiar white clad form, curled up in the corner of the room, head buried into his knees. Worry immediately filtering into her senses, the child Guardian then decided to take initiative and approached, ignoring the pair of Revenants obviously standing guard over the Exo's prone form.

As if on cue, a small flash of light materialized just above the Chosen's form, Hush barely pausing in time to connect with the frustrated optic of Nervous-But-Trustworthy- Sunny Day.

"How many times do I have to say it? Nine and Knight are- oh, Hush, it's just you."

Blinking as the child Guardian watched the white Ghost's shell droop in relief, easily sensing the stress oozing off their core, it was Crystalline who voiced the question that lingered in the back of Hush's mind, "What happened?"

She received a simple shrug from the white Ghost, "I wasn't here for the entirety of the fight but, according to them." They nodded towards the nearby the Revenants, both of which momentarily glanced their way, "The fight between Nine and Odoratta was brutal, both of them were clearly trying to kill each other." Hush winced at their words, "but then Nine all of a sudden came a pause, as if something or 'someone' was holding him back."

"Knight."

Day nodded at Crystalline's suspicion, "The Revenants then said that he spoke to 'himself' for a while before all of a sudden, he just broke down, crying."

Hush blinked at the white Ghost, not having to look over to see the incredulous look upon her Ghost's optic, "Crying? Now why would Nine be crying?"

"It was Knight who was crying." Day correct before they sighed, "and the reason, well…" That is when Hush saw their shell scrunch together, making their appearance smaller, "Knight keeps telling me that Nine is, well, gone."

Giving the Ghost a puzzled look, Hush couldn't help but raise a hand and sign, Gone? What do you mean gone?

Another up and down shift of the shell from Day, "According to Knight, the two got into a fight and well, he said something that hurt Nine. Badly."

"Wait," Crystalline spoke before Hush could even fully comprehend Day's words, "You're saying that Knight actually hurt Nine's feelings?"

"Yes?" The puzzled look was clear in the white Ghost's optic, "Look, I know Nine can be a bit stone-faced-"

"That's an understatement."

"But he really is an emotionally individual when you really get to know him." Hush struggled to suppress her amusement as Day flashed Crystalline a blank look. They then sighed again, "Nonetheless, from what I can gather from Knight, Nine apparently cut off his connection with him."

A stunned pause can easily be felt through her link with Crystalline as Hush processed the Ghost's words, her yellow eyes widening as she finally understood.

"Cut him off? Can he do that?" Crystalline finally managed to sputter, "I mean, they share a body, how can Nine 'cut him off' exactly?"

Another shrug from the white Ghost, "Look, I wish I can explain it to you, but so far, it's the truth."

"And you know this how?"

"Because despite the fact that Knight is right in front of me, I can't feel him, at all." Hush then watched Day draw back, bewilderment and frustration clear in their white optic, "But yet, I can feel Nine perfectly fine, right there in our bond where he always been. I just…" That is when Day's shell deflated, "I just do not understand 'how'."

Silent over the severity of the situation, Hush then caught Crystalline gliding forward from the edges of her vision, the lavender Ghost asking, "Have you tried asking Nine?"

A bitter laugh was her answer, "Do you think I haven't tried?" The white Ghost's shell flared some, "I kept pulling on our bond, asking him why but all I receive was silence." A huff can be heard from Day, "And he's awake and well, he's just refusing to answer."

"More than likely 'upset' over Knight's words, "Hush heard Crystalline murmur, "What did he say exactly?"

That is when Hush noticed Day's shell shift, the star shaped parts pressing tightly against their core as their white optic narrowed, "No idea."

"You didn't ask?"

"How can I when I can't sense his mind in mine!?" The white Ghost protested, "Do you know how strange it is to see 'one' of your Guardians sitting in front of you but unable to feel 'anything' when you reach out to them!?" Day let out another huff, "Asking how Nine's feelings got hurt was the last thing on my mind, alright?"

Seeing Crystalline's shell press against her core while the edges shifted downwards into a Ghost equivalent of a frown, Hush's eyes then widen at her next words, "Then perhaps you have to focus on your 'actual' Guardian."

If looks can kill, Hush's Ghost would have been dead, especially so from the way Day's shell bristled, "Excuse me? Nine 'and' Knight are 'both' of my Guardians, how dare you incite that Knight is a fake!"

"Then how else are you going to explain how your bond with Knight is 'cut' while as the one with Nine's still resonates strongly?" Crystalline retorted, "Has it ever occurred to you that there was a reason why Knight cannot handle the light well? Perhaps it is because Nine has been lending him power, not because he is 'chosen'."

Crystalline.

Reaching out to her Ghost to tap the back of the lavender Ghost's fins, Hush then noticed Crystalline's shell deflate, a heavy sigh permeating from her core, "I apologize for being harsh, Day. But, never in the history of Risen, in the history of Chosen, in the history of both Guardians and Revenants that there had been two individuals who shared the light. It's just…"

Hearing the female Ghost's voice, Hush turned her attention back towards Day, concern sweltering to the surface when she saw just how 'void' their optic was, their shell tilting downwards to the hearth.

"…Try contacting Nine again." Hush eventually heard Crystalline murmur, "We need to sort all this out."

Fidgeting with her fingers as she watched Day simply turn and vanish back into the safety of Nine's mind, Hush decided to take the opportunity to take a seat to the Exo, shuffling herself until she was practically waist to waist with him. Bringing her knees to her chest as she wrapped one arm around them, the child Guardian's worry grew as her presence earned her no reaction, no acknowledgement. She then turned her attention towards Crystalline, her lips pursed.

Crystalline, you were mean.

At first, she received nothing from her words, only a single blink from the Ghost. Then, a sigh, "Yes, yes I was."

Why did you have to tell Sunny Day now? Hush asked, settling her chin into her knees as she kept Knight's curled position from the corner of her eyes; still no movement, We could have waited until Shining Knight and Nine were happy with each other again.

"It was either we pull Day out of denial or they will forever be living in the delusion that they have 'two' Guardians, not one." Hush couldn't help but scowl at Crystalline's answer, "It was the only way to focus, Little One. Otherwise, we would have no made progress on 'why' Nine decided to cut Knight off."

Could have said it more nicely.

Seeing the shell of her Ghost flinch at her words, Hush then decided to turn her full attention onto Knight's form, the concern bubbling to the surface once more as she reached out with her free hand and placed a comforting hand onto his shoulder.

Still no response.

Heaving out a sad sigh in response to this, Hush shifted her attention back towards the room, taking note of the bewildered stares she received from the Chosen present.

The child Guardian hopes that her Papa returns soon. He should know how to fix this.

"Why in the Darkness are you still traveling with that Dreg?"

"And why in the Light are you still following us?" Orion hissed out, glancing back to send the Revenants in the rear a glare, "If you are that annoyed, then just leave." He then turned his attention back towards Varathis, the latter of momentarily let out a few clicks but continued to lead, "It is not like as though your 'Preceptor' would mind our absence for a few more moments."

"We are just more concerned that you are putting your trust into a Fallen that could be possibly be leading us into a trap." The Warlock of the Revenant pair snapped, "What is going to happen when all of its words are a lie and we turn into fodder for these House of Kings?"

"That won't happen." Orion retorted, scowling behind his visor but opted to keep his gaze focused on the Kings Dreg, "If you know anything about Eliksni culture, then you would know that any signs of kindness they will repay in full."

A scoff can be heard from the Revenant Titan, "Are you implying that a single cannister of Ether is enough to guarantee our safety?"

"Are you admitting that you have already forgotten that Ether is literately the Eliksni's lifeline?"

"Good one." Trikxas' words sent waves of mirth throughout Orion's mind, especially so when the Revenant Titan had gone silent, his eyes turned towards the hearth from embarrassment. Even Varathis was amused by his words, telling when the Exo Titan heard low clicks mingled with a low hum; so, he understands the language of humanity, hopefully the others of his group are the same.

"This way." Hearing the aforementioned Dreg whisper as he motioned towards a thicker underbrush, Orion followed without hesitation, brushing aside any stray leaves and branches that had gotten in his way.

It didn't take long for him to realize that he had followed Varathis into a cave, coming to a sudden halt as the sudden shift in green to a dreary gray fell into his optics. And it also didn't take long for him to raise his hands when the familiar muzzle of Shock Pistol pointed his way. Following the barrel of the weapon, Orion's gaze then settled upon two Vandals, their armor worn and battered, and their once pristine golden cloaks now tattered and dirtied.

"Well then," Orion heard the shuffling of leaves behind him, signaling that Akiva and the others had followed him in. Moments later, he saw the human Titan approach his side, his hands also up in the air in surrender, "This is a nice welcoming party."

If it wasn't for the fact that Eliksni hold little regard for humor when it comes to 'tresspassers', Orion would have certainly chuckled at Akiva's words, but, held his composure when the two Vandals pushed their pistols their way, their glowing eyes narrowed in the darkness.

"Varathis!" One of them snarled, anger and hurt heard clearly in their one, "You try and betray us to these bandits?"

It was apparent that they were trying to act tough, but, thanks to Angel and Trikxas' teachings, Orion can easily see the way their weapons shook slightly in their grip, their shoulders slightly deflated, and their lower arms loose near their sides was enough confirm his suspicions; unlike the Dregs, their bodies were not stable enough to sustain themselves with little to no Ether. The Exo Titan can only imagine how the Captains and the Barons were doing in their current situation.

"I do not betray!" Orion heard Varathis retort, watching the Dreg take a step forward only for the latter to pause as one of the Vandals shifted their weapon towards him, "These 'Light-bearers' are here to help."

A short scoff can be heard from one of the higher ranking Eliksni, "Help? You are more Ether-starved than we had originally thought, Varathis." Orion's shoulders tensed as the one speaking took a step closer, closing the distance of the pistol pointing at the Exo Titan and his chest, "Who in their right would believe the words of these bandits?"

Chitters of frustration can be heard permeating from Varathis' mandibles, "Because 'they' are friends to Pure One."

That is when Orion felt a change in their surroundings, the Exo taking note of the two Vandals eyes widening before giving him and his group suspicious glances. Nonetheless, either they trusted Varathis or out of desperation, Orion watch the pair lower their weapons, holstering them back around their waist. Although, one of them turn and growled at the Dreg, "You better not be lying to us, Varathis."

A huff can be heard from the Dreg, the latter crossing his arms before Orion saw him turn his glowing eyes towards him, "Do you believe that I am lying, friend?"

Optics going wide at Varathis' intentions and of his words, Orion then couldn't help the smile that formed onto his metallic features as he spoke, "No, I do not believe you are lying, friend."

The Exo heard Trikxas laugh loudly in his mind at the looks upon the two Vandal's faces.

"So, this is where you have been hiding all this time?" Ianos easily can sense the unease from Marin as Saphira continued to hum thoughtfully, her speckled eyes taking in the descending hall of the Revenant's base entrance, "I had suspected it was around here but, never took the time to fully discern 'where' exactly."

"Are you inciting that our attempts at hiding our place of refuge was incompetent?"

Ianos barely caught the sparkle of amusement in Saphira's eyes, a smile forming onto her mist-like features, "Have you already forgotten? I have lived in these woods for 'decades', little one, and I barely had made the assumption that this area is where I 'thought' you and your Shadow-bearers made your place of living." She chuckled lightly, especially so when Ianos saw Marin snap her head away from the older Titan, the younger Chosen's shoulders tense and her hands fidgeting together, "I am 'stating' that you Revenants had done well on hiding your base of operations if it had taken me 'years' to even discover the vague placement of your entrance."

"You give them too much credit," Ianos muttered although, he currently hated to admit it, there were truth in her words.

After all, the Revenants had been hiding several years after the truce between themselves and the Tower had been made, and yet, no one, not even Pluto and Ianos himself had known of even 'one' of their locations. It must have been a difficult feat, especially since there were many Guardians who still held a vendetta towards the darkness-wielding Chosen.

"Nonetheless, I thank you for your words, Lady Saphira." Ianos turned and gave the back of the Preceptor's head a bland look, the latter of which continued to take point as he continued to lead their little band downstairs, "It had taken many years to ascertain the safety of this small place we call home."

"A difficult task, if this so called 'City' had yet to take initiative on 'cleansing' all of you." The Warlock flinched at Saphira's words, "Oh come now, even if it had been 'years' since I had last spoken to this 'Consensus', I am knowledgeable enough that their tactics and opinions have yet to change." Saphira then held her shoulders high, lifting her chin slightly as she lifted up a hand, and quoted, "The Darkness is a threat. In order for humanity to thrive again, all traces of the Darkness must be eliminated until only the Light remains."

Ianos couldn't help but raise a brow at her words, taking note of the slight mocking undertone, "Is that what you believe in, Saphira?"

Instead of receiving an immediate answer, the Warlock watched as Saphira recomposed herself, her speckled eyes beaming as she grinned, "That is for me to know and for you to figure out."

Annoyance immediately tickled the back of his mind but, nonetheless, instead of voicing this, Ianos simply let out a scoff and then opted to simply follow the Preceptor through the halls. This led to worry filtering into the Awoken's mind, the lack of a distraction prompting Ianos' mind to wander back towards Crystalline's frequency.

When Ace had notified him that the female Ghost had said that they were in trouble, Ianos had requested his Ghost to send it in, listening to it privately as the group gradually made their way back. From what he can understand, Nine had gotten into a brawl with one of the Revenants, and they were currently in the process of trying to maim each other. Normally, Ianos wouldn't be too worried; Nine is an experienced soldier and his manipulation of his light was nothing to joke at. If the Phoenix Exo had gotten himself into trouble, Ianos was confident that he can take himself out of it. That is what he thought, until Crystalline's frequency added in that it was Odoratta, the Hive and Revenant 'offspring' that he had gotten into a fight with.

And that changed everything.

A Revenant Ianos knows well; although a short while, he had aided in the battles against them and he knows their limits. They 'have' to remain in balance and as such, they have to utilize the light 'and' the darkness equally to ensure that they are not corrupted. That is why Ianos thought Nine could handle himself; a unique individual such as he would have no problem forcing back a 'balance' Chosen. But, one that is born between an individual of darkness and one resurrected by the light, Ianos couldn't help but be concerned. Who knows what kind of offspring like Odoratta would be capable of?

Feeling Ace pulling through their bond as his worry grew, Ianos then shifted his eyes upward and immediately, his gaze narrowed as they landed upon the back of both the Preceptor's and Pluto's heads.

Against his better judgement, Ianos had refrained informing the Head Revenant and the Exo Hunter, the Awoken feeling his chest burn at even the prospect of speaking with them. He had spent years mourning, hurting, agonizing over Zakai's death, playing out repeated possibilities of what he could have done to prevent it. It hurt to know that two of the most trusted people he had known in his life betrayed his trust and now, Ianos is unsure if the ever-burning anger that had settled within his mind would ever forgive them. Perhaps with time, he would. After all, time comes with understanding. Although Ianos is unsure of how he will understand their decisions.

Nonetheless, there comes a price at ensuring Pluto and the Preceptor weren't notified of what had occurred. The Preceptor, having take point, was taking his idle time, chatting quietly to himself (or more likely to 'Hiro', the name that the Ghost had taken when Ianos had last seen her) to help pass the time and Pluto, having sensed Ianos' aggravation, had taken to walking alone slightly to the side just behind Marin, the latter of which had taken her spot behind the Head Revenant. Their slow pace was agonizing but Ianos knows that if he tries to rush pass them, the pair would suspect what was occurring and more than likely try and get involved. That's currently the last thing Ianos wants.

"You have a lot on your mind." Ianos jumped before turning his eyes towards Saphira, the smile upon the female Titan's face gone and her gaze filled with concern. It didn't take long for her eyes to glance towards the Preceptor before her attention shifted back towards her fellow Awoken, "If you do not mind, I would like to be informed on what is going on."

Scowling at the former Iron Lord, Ianos originally decided against it; he already involved her enough as it is, especially since she wants nothing more than to be left alone. But, just as he came to this decision, Ianos then felt a sharp tug in the back of his mind, easily sensing Ace's ire; it didn't take the Warlock long to understand.

Heaving out a stubborn sigh, Ianos ignored the confused look he received from Saphira before he said, "This is going to be a long story, so if you can just –"

"Preceptor! There you are!"

Hearing the relief in the tone of the newcomer, Ianos turned his attention in time to spot a Chosen clad in Hunter armor, the latter of which saluted the black and red clad Warlock before speaking, "We are all glad you are back safely, Preceptor."

Seeing the aforementioned Revenant nod once in acknowledgment of the Hunter's words, Ianos then watched him tilt his head just slightly and then crossing his arms behind his back, "Did something happen during my absence, Kore?"

That is when the Hunter in question reeled, actually taking a step back before they stuttered, "How did you-"

"I may not be able to see properly, but my hearing functions just fine." Although subtle, Ianos saw the Preceptor lift his head just slightly and his next line of words sounded amused, "I can easily hear the panic in your voice."

The Hunter's head immediately dipped at the black and red Warlock's words, his shoulders hunched as he stuttered out, "During your absence, Odoratta and one of the Tower Guardians got into a fight."

Even from the back, Ianos saw Pluto's head snap up in attention, "What?"

"Repairs are needed for one nursery and two hallways." The Hunter continued to report, "and despite the damage, only minor injuries were sustained." The Revenant then straightened himself out, Ianos taking note of the nervous flexing of his fingers, "Odoratta is currently being treated and the Tower Guardian is currently under watch."

"Who was it?" It was Pluto, the blind Exo taking steps forward, pausing as his shoulder brushed against the Preceptor's; Ianos didn't have to glance over to sense the Hunter bristle at the action, "You did not imprison them, did you?"

It was apparent from the Hunter's stiff shoulders and the way his fingers curled into fists that he had the thought of ignoring Pluto, but Ianos was quick to catch the quick glance the Revenant gave to the Preceptor, and the group heard him respond, although, a bit reluctantly, "The one clad in white, highly doubt the child can do anything against Odoratta." Ianos then watched him cross his arms, the Awoken unable to help himself but think that the Revenant Hunter was now pouting, "And no, he is still in the Mess Hall where the scuffle had ceased." The Hunter then turned his attention back to the group before he shifted his shoulders up and down, "We had tried moving him, however, he refused to budge." A scoff then can be heard from the Revenant, "The fight with Odoratta must have scared him in a way."

Ianos couldn't help but scowl at the Hunter's words, "What do you mean?"

"He's curled up in a ball and whispering to himself that he 'made a mistake'." The Hunter seemed more than happy to share 'that' information it seemed, "Wouldn't react to anything either, even his own Ghost."

His frown deepening at the Hunter's words, Ianos found himself glancing over to Pluto only to spot the Exo had turned to face him. Although his blindfold covers most of his expression, Ianos can easily tell from the intense light around his jaw that he was worried and confused, emotions that the Awoken Warlock could not help but mirror.

"Lead the way, Kore?"

Ianos snapped his attention back towards the Preceptor, his eyes narrowing suspiciously as he watched the named Hunter startle back. It was obvious from the way his shoulders leaned from and his hands now uncurled showed the Revenant's surprise, confusion, but, nonetheless, he nodded, "As you wish, Preceptor."

Seeing the Hunter then turn and start heading down the hallway, Ianos then saw the Preceptor glance temporarily his way, glancing over his shoulder just briefly before turning his focus back onto the Revenant Hunter and started to trail after him, Marin following after. Following the Warlock's form, Ianos then jumped as he felt a hand clamp down onto his shoulder, prompting him to turn and stare into Saphira's speckled eyes.

"This is where I will be taking my leave." She stated, Ianos feeling her hands leave his shoulder as he caught her eyes flicking over to the Head Revenant's form, "Although, if you want me to stay, then I would not mind."

Raising a brow at the Titan's words, Ianos momentarily glanced over only to understand her concerns; other Revenants had made themselves known from the darkness and it didn't take one to easily see their aggressiveness. Their shoulders were stiff, hands tight near their sides, their eyes hardened behind their visors, and not to mention that a couple had wisps of darkness emanating from their shoulders. In other words, they were none too pleased with whoever was responsible, and there was no doubt in Ianos' mind that their hostility would increase.

Nonetheless, the Awoken shook his head before stating, "I think my Fireteam and I have this handled but, thank you for the offer." Ianos heard a choked noise behind him; he wouldn't be surprised if it was Pluto, "and not to mention I do not think the Revenants appreciate your presence."

He saw a smile form onto Saphira's features, "Just a reminder that they are not the only 'occupants' in this forest." She then shifted her eyes towards the Revenants before giving them a slight wave, "and to stay out of my territory."

Straining against the smile that threatened to form onto his face, Ianos then dipped his head, "It was nice seeing you again, Saphira."

The former Iron Lord copied the gesture, "And nice seeing you as well, Ianos."

Then, without another word, Ianos watched as Saphira turned and walked back up the stairs, her wolf companion following not too far behind her. That is when Ianos heard someone clear their throat behind him. Turning around, Ianos' eyes quickly narrowed as they locked onto Pluto, the Exo Hunter shifting nervously on the back of his feet, "Little Light-"

"I am in no mood to hear your excuses." He heard Pluto immediately pause at his words, "You knew of the Preceptor's identity, knew of his survival, knew how I grieved but yet..." Feeling his anger boiling within his chest, Ianos clenched his teeth, ignoring the burning sensation settling near his eyes, "Last thing I want to do now is to even look at you."

With his words spoken, Ianos then brushed past the blind Exo, not pausing once to even hear or glance over his shoulder to see if he followed. As he trailed after the Preceptor towards Nine's location, Ianos then felt the familiar buzz of Ace materializing nearby followed by a soft hum permeating from his Ghost, "Pluto is going to be hurt by your words."

Ianos turned and gave the black and orange Ghost a scowl, "And that currently matters?"

Half-expecting Ace to scold him for his harshness towards the Exo Hunter, Ianos instead heard the Ghost let out a light laugh, the Warlock actually seeing their shell shake, "Considering how long we have been here and he had not taken the initiative of informing us of Zakai's survival, no, his emotional well-being is low on our priority list." His Ghost then turned his attention towards the red and black clad Warlock's back and for the first time in years, Ianos saw Ace's orange optic darken, both grief and anger flashing in their gaze, "Especially for him."

Trailing his eyes over the Preceptor's form, Ianos eyes softened at the mention of the halfling's name, his vision momentarily seeing the dark-haired Warlock lingering within his mind before quickly, it flashed to anger, to confusion. The two of them had just lost Ari, what had prompted Zakai to plan out his own death just to escape the Vanguard's radar? His study and curiosity of the Darkness? The very thing that had killed the Exo Warlock and that had its claws slowly raking down Ianos' lifespan? Ianos is unsure if he will ever forget this betrayal, even if matters sorted eventually themselves.

Letting out a long sigh as his mind scrambled with emotions, Ianos momentarily paused as he spotted the Preceptor and his guide take a sharp left, his eyes trailing the hole in the wall. A prominent and freshly made hole judging from the dripping dust and crumbling drywall.

"That Odoratta individual must have put up a fight with Nine." Ianos heard Ace hum thoughtfully, although, easily spotted the way their shell pressed against their core, "With the exception of Dusk, I had never seen any evidence of anyone tossing him around." They then subtly bobbed towards the new 'entryway', "Especially like this."

Scrunching his features together in concern, Ianos simply took a step over the rubble and made his way inside.

"Ianos! There you are!" He lifted his eyes to lock onto the familiar light azure optics, the young Exo's shoulders slumping with relief as Scorpio added, "We were getting worried that something had gotten to you and Pluto."

Forcing the bubbling anger that threatened to surface at the blind Exo's name, Ianos simply took in a deep breath before nodding his head in greeting, letting relief that both Scorpio and Gemini had made it back safely from their reconnaissance, "Anything interesting to report from the field?"

"Nothing much," It was Gemini who spoke, the Huntress shrugging her shoulders as she added, "We spotted the patrol group, ran after them when they spotted us, and just eventually gave up chase when they crossed the border." Ianos then watched her pause, the glow of her optics easily seen thanks to the absence of her helmet, "Although, have you seen Akiva and Orion? I would have thought that they would be back by now, especially since their location was closest to base."

"They are not back yet?" Concern flickered to the front of Ianos' mind as Gemini shook her head, "Last time we made contact it was to report back that they simply ran." She then shrugged her shoulders once more, "Heard the two make a plan on trying to capture a straggler before they cut off frequency."

Scowling at her words, Ianos glanced over his shoulder to lock his gaze with Ace's, seeing the same bewildered and worried look in their optic. Had something gone wrong not long after their connection was cut?

Nonetheless, before Ianos could further muse on Akiva and Orion's whereabouts, a brush against his shoulder quickly snapped him out of his thoughts, his orange eyes quickly making contact with Scorpio's optics once more.

"We'll worry about them later," The young Hunter's gaze then flicked over his shoulder, his optics glowing with concern, "But for now, just tell us if there is anything you can do for Knight."

At the mention of the younger mind's name, Ianos' worry upon the two Titan's shifted to the Warlock, his eyes following Scorpio's gaze only to come to a pause. Right there, leaning against the wall just between the twin's form was Knight, the white clad Exo having buried his face into his knees and his arms wrapped around his legs. Next to him, Hush had her hand upon his shoulder, having taken a seat next to the prone Warlock. At least, she was until her yellow eyes made contact with his.

Immediately both relief and excitement can be seen flashing in her gaze followed by her pushing herself steadily onto her feet, hesitating, and then finally removing her hand from Knight's shoulder. Taking note on the younger mind's lack of reaction from the sudden removal of touch, Ianos' eyes narrowed before quickly softening as Hush came to a pause in front of him, feeling her hands linger within his fingertips as he said, "Considering last I had seen you was with Knight, I have a feeling you can put to light on the situation at hand?"

"You got that right," It was Crystalline, the lavender Ghost approaching before coming to a pause just short above Hush's shoulder, "While all of you were absent, Nine finally awoke from his light-exhausted induced slumber."

Ianos raised a brow at this, "And that was enough for him to get into a fight?"

"Normally no, 'but'," Judging from the way Crystalline momentarily glanced at Hush and the narrowed look she received from the child Guardian, she was being forced to share, "It had happened when Odoratta was showing us the nurseries. Which were spawned by Hive."

Ianos' felt his heart skip a beat, "Pardon?"

"And," Crystalline's shell pressed against her core, once again her optic glancing nervously between Ianos and the child Guardian, "he awoke while Knight was carrying a Hive…'baby' in his arms."

Hearing this, Ianos couldn't help but grind his jaw together in agitation, his mind processing on the scenario. There will be no doubt in his mind that Nine would have definitely gotten into a fit with a Hive grub in his arms, possibly even try to kill it considering his time imprisoned by the walking husks. And there will be no doubt he would have shifted his attention towards the biggest threat within the room, this Odoratta individual.

The Hive hybrid.

Flinching as the words resounded within his mind, Ianos forced himself to take in a breath, regaining his composure, "Do you know what happened next?"

That is when he saw both Hush and Crystalline glance towards each other, their eyes shifting before finally, the lavender Ghost turned and answered, "We're not entirely sure but, according to what we could get from Knight before he went comatose was that he had said something hurtful towards Nine."

"Wait, Nine's feelings actually got hurt?"

Turning and giving Gemini a blank look to quickly silence her, Ianos shifted his attention back towards Crystalline in time to see her bob once, "According to his words yes, and, well, it hurt him enough where Nine cut off his connection with Knight."

"Excuse me!?"

Stunned by Crystalline's words, Ianos didn't even have the words to turn and stop Gemini as the latter blurted, "Cut off Knight? How in the Light could he even do that!?"

That is when the lavender Ghost turned and gave the Huntress a look, "Have you already forgotten who Nine is? He is practically a figment of the Traveler, cutting himself off from Knight would have been nothing to him."

"But isn't Knight chosen just like Nine?" It was Scorpio who spoke, the Hunter coming to a quick pause before adding, "Isn't he?"

Feeling his stomach twist at the young Exo's words, Ianos shifted his attention back onto Crystalline and Hush, both of which had once again had locked their gaze together, hesitation clear in their eyes.

"You know something." Ianos found himself blurting out, prompting both the child Guardian and the lavender Ghost to jump, "Mind sharing?"

"Darkness, nothing gets pass you- Hey!"

Shoving down his amusement at the frown that Hush had given her Ghost, he watched as the child Guardian once against tapped Crystalline's side with the back of her hand, prompting the latter to grumble.

Crystalline had told them the truth.

Immediately, the warmth in Ianos' chest faded, his eyes narrowing at Hush's signs, "The truth?"

That only Nine is Chosen, not Knight, Ianos paused at the child Guardian's words, and when Nine blocked Knight, he also cut off his bond with Day.

Silence loomed over them as Hush lowered her hands, Ianos easily seeing the worry and guilt in her yellow eyes, hearing Crystalline's muttering coming to a sudden pause as she realized what her Guardian had signed. It was to the point where the Warlock felt a tap on his shoulder followed by Scorpio's voice, "Ianos? Is everything alright?"

Instead of immediately answering the young Exo, Ianos remained silent as his mind reeled with the information that he was just given. Knight, the one who is capable of solar light in opposition of Nine's arc and void, is not a Chosen? Then how was he able to utilize the light despite the short spurts? Able to wield it unlike the Phoenix Exo? Is he even capable of wielding the light without the aid of Nine and Day?

Day

At the thought of the white Ghost, Ianos shifted his eyes over to Knight's prone form and scanned for Day's familiar star shaped form. Quickly spotting nothing, worry filtered into Ianos' mind as he flicked his attention back towards Knight and it was then, he finally heard the faint muttering, the subtle rocking of the younger mind.

"All my fault. I made a mistake."

It was quiet but it was clear enough for Ianos to understand Knight's condition. To share two minds only for them to be suddenly ripped away, it was a wonder that Knight was even holding himself together. If this can be even considered 'sane'.

Ianos turned his attention back towards Hush and Crystalline, "Where is Day?"

The question must have been abrupt as he seen not only the lavender Ghost, but also Hush reel back at his words. However, nonetheless, he watched Crystalline shift her shell against her core, "He is inside with Nine, but he refuses to come out." That is when her shell drooped, the shimmering pattern dimming slightly, "I might have been a bit 'blunt' when it came to revealing the truth."

"And what is this truth?"

Turning his eyes back towards the twins, Ianos easily saw the worry in their optics, the lights in both their gaze and jaws diming slightly to show their concern. Although hesitant, Ianos glanced momentarily back towards Hush and Crystalline, only to see the child Guardian subtly smack the lavender Ghost once more with the back of her hand. More than likely stopping her from intervening.

As such, Ianos answered, "It seems that only Nine had been Chosen. That inkling of light that we had seen Knight display is more than likely a share in power from Nine."

"Excuse me!?"

Ignoring the shouts of surprise from Gemini, Ianos then turned his eyes towards Knight's prone form before turning and approaching the younger mind.

"Be careful with him."

Hearing Crystalline speak out behind him, Ianos can immediately tell that she was simply repeating Hush's words, hearing the guilt and the worry laced in her voice. Nonetheless, Ianos gave no indication if he had heard her and instead, came to a stop just short of Knight and then knelt down, his eyes scanning the white clad Warlock once more. Momentarily silent, he then shifted, seating himself upon the floor as he crossed his legs and place his wrists upon his knees. He immediately sensed bewilderment from the others.

"What are you doing?"

"Waiting." Ianos answered Gemini's question, "A delicate situation such as this requires patience and time. It is not a wise to jump in immediately.

"But, the Revenants."

Hearing the wariness in the Huntress' words, Ianos took it upon himself to glance around and quickly, he understood Gemin's concerns. Many of the Revenants, more than likely the ones that had witnessed the scuffle, were rigid, their stances hostile as their eyes sent them glares, their narrowed glances more than telling of their displeasure.

"She may have a point." It was Ace who whispered in his ear, the black and orange Ghost's parts clicking nervously together, "it seems we have stayed beyond our welcome."

Mentally agreeing with his Ghost, Ianos then contemplating upon alternatives before a cough prompted him to shift his attention towards corner of the room. Immediately, both anger and yearning boiled within his chest.

"We shall ensure you are comfortable during your wait." If it wasn't for the fact that it was the Preceptor speaking, Ianos would have snickered at the flabbergasted looks the Revenants had sent the red and black clad Warlock, "It is the least we can do considering…"

Hearing his voice fade, Ianos already understood his words despite the incompletion of his sentence. This small act of kindness barely smolders the flames of anger that currently had settled within mind. Nonetheless, he nodded his thanks towards the Preceptor before shifting his attention back towards Knight, hearing the twins take positions behind him and feeling Hush take a seat near his side. Waiting until everyone was settled, Ianos then straightened his posture and started to wait.

This chapter is a tad bit longer to make up for the lack of updates (8k words, that's a lot lol) and other chapters will be the same, considering how often I will be updating. Nonetheless, thanks for reading guys C:
