Prologue:

The unrequited love

She looked at her tutor as he explained her how to solve the problem. He was an attractive college student and his name was Darien, he has been helping her since the beginning of her high school year and she got better at her grades thanks to him. Now she was in her second year and this was their final reunion together, her final class with him.

Serena knew it and she needed to say what she felt for him today, about the feelings she began to form towards him since last year. He was 3 years older than her and he was more mature, that normally is something that made him more attractive to the girls but in all honestly she liked him more when he laughed.

A boyfriend who is in college… what will my friends think?

She was sure that if she talked to Amy; she would tell her that she should not think in a relationship now and only concentrate on her studies, Lita and Mina would tell her to go for it and to tell them later the details and Rei will probably tell her to think before doing it.

Bulma and Milk will be the ones who will ask more tomorrow at school though.

"Serena, did you understood this?" Darien said and she looked at him with a smile.

"Sure!"

He keeps telling her how to do the exercise and she is attentive, hours pass slowly when she is with him and she is thankful for that. It is only when the light of the sunset touches her window when she notices how late it is.

"I think we will finish it this way," Darien says with a smile" You already got better and I feel that my tutoring helped you. Even someone who is not that smart in school. Can become a capable one thanks to me"

The playful tone he said it told her that he didn't really say that in a serious manner, he always loved making fun of her. He acted like her big brother who liked to make her mad.

And she wanted to change that.

Serena was a romantic; she had read manga and watched romantic movies. Heck, she even became a fan of a few romance books suggested by her friend Amy. She wanted to fall in love since she was a little kid. Rei would call her out for having such a boring dream but she had a boyfriend now so she can't molest her now.

Funny how the girl who was scared at first to have a romantic relationship thanks to her past experience had the most stable one with a person who was completely different from her tastes.

To be painfully honest, she was a little envious of that. Mina has had boyfriends in her life, Amy is concentrated in her studies but has a close friend who clearly has a big crush on her, she hasn't dismissed his feelings, and Lita still holds high her past love as a beautiful memory.

All her friends have something connecting to romantic love and the closest thing she has was liking her tutor. Moreover, she will try to take it to the fullest.

Darien is walking her outside her house, as she is lost in her thoughts.

"Hey, dumpling head!" he said her 'affectionate' nickname to catch her attention.

"Stop calling me that!"

And he clearly succeeded.

"Hahaha," he begins to laugh and Serena temporally forgets about her annoyance," You been thinking a lot since we walked out of your room"

This was the moment, he initiated the conversation and that was a good sign in her mind.

"Yes, I was practicing something in my head and I think I can say it now thanks to that," She said with a smile that she was trying to mask her nervousness, thankfully he didn't notice" I love you, I fell in love with you a while ago and I want us to be a couple"

Her voice didn't shiver and her words sounded clear as a day. She was so proud of herself, she sounded so mature, she finally succeeded in not to feel nerv-

"HAHAHAHAHA" Darien was laughing.

Maybe she did something wrong, because he shouldn't be laughing, right?

"That was a very good joke Serena," did she just saw tears in his eyes? Did he found this that funny?

"What?" Oh, she found her voice.

"I can't, it just so funny. Who in their right mind confesses as a joke?"

It isn't a joke

"Why did you found it funny?" She wanted to cry but her anger was winning the control of her heart" I had been practicing for a long time!"

"Hey relax, I believe that you practiced for a while because I almost believed you until I saw that strange smile you had after it"

The smile, the one she did so she can mask her nervousness. Was the one to make him believe this was a joke?

She was furious now.

"It wasn't a joke, I was practicing it so I could told him my feelings," Serena said in a challenging tone and that made Darien stop laughing "The person I fell in love is in my school studying and I been trying my best to confess to him!"

She knew that lying was wrong and that her anger was making the lies flow easily but she couldn't help it! He just hurted her.

"Interesting, so you just used me to practice?"

"Yes and with what I saw, I can say you weren't a good subject" Her words sounded more bitter than she wanted it.

"Not going to lie, I am interested now in who that person could be. But don't worry, you will have my shoulder to cry on if he rejects you" His voice sounded playful and respectful like usual as he smiled and she wanted to cry" However, if you two work out. A thing that I doubt because we are talking about you, I will offer you an invitation for the Valentine's festival at my college. Only couples can go and you will have fun"

Normally she was used to him make fun of her, to tease her in such a way that make her annoyed but she never took it personal.

Until now.

"Believe me, we will be a couple by then. I will prove you wrong" her normal teasing masked her pain perfectly. Although she needed to leave now since her act will certainly crumble if she stays longer.

Mina is better in acting than she is.

"I will believe it when I see it" Darien said, challenging her to continue.

Nevertheless, she was tired.

"You will see it," Serena said with a defeated tone, her expression saddened and before Darien caught to it, she turned around "But before going tell me something, if that confession was towards you, what you could have said?"

"Hmm? Want me to give you feedback for his possible answer?"

She tensed.

"Well I can't say anything about him in mind because I don't know him. However if it was towards me I am sure I could have rejected you because I like you just as a friend and the other important reason is that I have a girlfriend"

"A girlfriend?" Serena voice was monotone" Why didn't you mentioned her before?"

"Why should I? You and I are just frien-"

"A girl would like to be mentioned in her boyfriend conversations sometimes, you know? To show at least some importance towards her in his life"

His silence was palpable and with that, she just leaved him.
