Kara had just returned to work as Supergirl; Alex had urged her to have another week off. However, Kara wanted a distraction, a distraction from her thoughts of the recent revelations with Laoina and how their relationship was going. Excellent, by the way, they hadn't moved past the occasional kiss, once with tongues; and they hadn't seen each other without ample clothing. But that was ok; as Lena kept reminding Kara, they could take as long as they needed. The Kryptonian flew into her apartment window covered in dust; at this point, she was beyond the point of caring about the mess. She failed by all accounts; one person didn't get out of the building, and there was one person she couldn't save. The press was calling her a failure, a monster etc. maybe they were right. She talked about standing up for yourself and others but couldn't tell her boyfriend no. All the thoughts caught up, leaving the alien lying in her bed, cocooned in her duvet, trying to make the noise disappear. Alex texted her several times, then rang. Kara tapped her bracelet twice, wishing for Lena to appear.
Laoina was in her lab, tinkering away at a new suit for Kara and reprogramming the Lena Luthor protocol to implement in the Tower, her's and Kara's apartments. Her monitor pulled her attention away from her task, bringing up an image of her love cowered in the corner of her bed, wrapped in the covers like a small imp. She gripped her bracelet till her knuckles went white, crying softly for air. Her hair was matted with debris, and her clothes and skin were covered in dust. As Laoina grabbed a spare change of clothes and PJs, her phone buzzed.
A: Can you please see if you can get hold of Kara? She had a rough day, and I'm worried
L: Yeah, I'm heading to her's now. Don't worry, I'll keep her safe, always.
A: Thx, little Luthor. Glad you two finally sorted it out and stopped dancing around each other.
"Kara, a stór, can I come in?" Lena knocked lightly on the portion between the bedroom and living room as she exited her portal. The Kryptonian gave a slight nod towards the witch. No words were needed to display what she required. The witch sat down next to the blonde, leaving enough space so that it wouldn't be overwhelming if Kara didn't want to be touched. "Do you want a hug?" Lena opened her arms, waiting for a response from the alien. Instead, Kara crawled her way into the strong Irish arms, burying her head in Laoina's chest. Lena ran her fingers gently across Kara's arm, pouring every ounce of love she could into the alien. "Let's get you cleaned up, shall we?"
Lena guided Kara towards the bathroom and reached to turn the tap on to fill the bath. Turning her attention back to the blonde, who was sitting on the toilet, arms closing around her body, closing it off from the outside world. "Do you want the lights off, mo ghrá?" Lena sensed that Kara was uncomfortable and, judging by her body language, was not wanting to see herself. In Laoina's eyes, she was beautiful; nothing could ever take that away from her in Lena's world. She turned off the tap and knelt down beside the Kryptonian. "Do you need help?" Kara remained silent; she didn't want Lena to see her like this, but at the same time didn't want her to leave her eye line. "An bhfuil cabhair uait?" The alien gave a small look as if to say, "Please don't leave me?"
Lena gently pulled her to her feet and began undressing the blonde, constantly checking whether there was any discomfort in her face. Laoina guided the suit down Kara's arms, letting it fall to the floor, before allowing the Kryptonian to fall into her arms, kissing her softly on the top of her head. Pouring words of love in Irish, English and Kryptonese into her ears. Kara was practically lifted into the bath, leaning heavily on Lena. "Let's get all this dust off you."
Kara still stared at Lena, wanting to ask her to join her in the bath. She just wanted to feel close to the witch, to hold her to make sure this wasn't all a dream. She pointed at Laoina, then the bath then looked back into the witch's eyes. Finally, Lena seemed to understand what Kara was asking, "You want me to join you?" Nod, "Ceart go leor, lig dom grab an gallúnach agus scuab gruaige." Lena lined the diverse array of soaps, shampoos and conditioners along the side before slipping out of her clothes and climbing in behind Kara, inviting her to lean back into her arms.
Laoina massaged the shampoo into Kara's scalp, resizing some gentle moans from the alien, then softly rinsed the soap off, careful not to get caught in any of the knots. She then grabbed the conditioner, lacing it through the Kryptonian's long blonde locks, cautiously running her fingers to separate the matts before gently brushing it through with the hairbrush. Once Kara's hair was washed and brushed, Lena asked if she would like it braided. Receiving a slight hum in reply, Laoina got to work, delicately folding her lover's hair into a Celtic knot, running down its length.
Once they were both dried and in their PJs, Lena quickly texted Alex saying Kara was ok, non-verbal but ok. Kara tried as hard as possible to get close to Laoina, letting the witch wrap protectively around her and watching the tiny faeries fill the room with a soft light. Laoina recited a poem as Kara snuggled down and began to drift off.
Ay, the pain it costs me
To love you as I love you!
For love of you, the air, it hurts,
And my heart,
And my hat, they hurt me.
Who would buy it from me,
This ribbon I am holding,
And this sadness of cotton,
White, for making handkerchiefs with?
Ay, the pain it costs me
To love you as I love you!
So there you go. I'm not sure why I wrote Kara as non-verbal here but it just seemed right.
The poem at the end is "It's True" by García Lorca. Some of his works are really touching, this one focuses on his love for his boyfriend that can't be shown
Irish in this:
- a stór - darling
- mo ghrá - my love
- An bhfuil cabhair uait? - do you want help
- Ceart go leor, lig dom grab an gallúnach agus scuab gruaige. - ok, let me just grab the soap and a hairbrush
