Mina the pink girl with the acid quirk from the hero course class 1A was a cheerful almost delightful girl to be around. Almost seemed to have the social ability to be friends with anyone she came across that it almost seemed like a second quirk. During this initial observation of her Bowsette decided she was hardly a threat and would be an easy person to defeat.
Now she discovered how wrong she was as the pink girl was literally skating around her with the use of her quirk.
Clever move.
It would seem the 1A student took a game plan from her classmate in an earlier fight. A guy with a bird head that had a ridiculously powerful quirk involving a shadow used his quirk to push out a girl that could create anything out of her body somehow.
The girl merely only had time to create a shield and found herself forced out of the ring by sheer strength of the shadow quirk user. At the time Bowsette was kind of happy at the girl losing. She had a fancy proper aura about her that was almost princess like that stirred the horned blonde the wrong way for reasons she couldn't explain even to herself.
But those thoughts were quickly forgotten once the battle between her and Mina began.
The acid user was skating in a zig zag fashion across the ring throwing globs of her more corrosive acid towards the general studies student. With this combination Mina was slowly pushing her opponent backwards out of the ring by not allowing Bowsette time to think of a better defensive strategy.
The young American had considered retreating into her shell but that caused two problems. Problem one being that her shell could still be vulnerable to the acid considering she was game to test how corrosive said acid was. The following problem was that she would be again vulnerable to the pink girl just walking up and kicking her out of the ring.
Either problem would result in losing. And that wasn't an option.
So what could she do? She was quickly running out of both time and space in the ring.
Girl needed a plan and quick.
Izuku worked on the latest page in his quirk analysis notebook as he watched the match play out before him. He didn't have much notes on Koopa apart from she can hide in her spikey shell, breath fire and has a dragon like tail along with a pair of horns on her head. She's so far only been dodging Mina's attacks so all his collected knowledge on the exchange student was purely based on his observations from the last two rounds in the festival.
And so he merely worked on his sketch of her on the opposite page of her notes despite how much it cramped and ached his fingers especially after breaking two of them during his fight with Shinso where he unconsciously activated One For All.
All Might's explanation of what happened wasn't a very satisfying answer but it was the better then nothing under the circumstances. He still had a long way to go before he could work out how to control his newly inherited quirk but that was the way it was. He just hoped he could use it enough to last the next few rounds.
For now though. He'd take note and observe this fight and learn what he could about the mystery girl that now was battling one of his classmates.
Air hissed out of the medical machines that sat with in the darkened room. A tv screens sat in the center giving the only bit of light in the room. The first screen showed the UA sports festivals live coverage while the second showed a bar with a young villian apprentice Tomura Shigaraki sitting at it glance at his own live feed of the festival with the warp villian Kurogiri standing behind the bar itself.
Despite he's horrific injuries that prevented him from physically seeing what was occurring before. The man in the room did have other ways of 'sensing' what was happening.
At the moment the volume was muted for both televisions as the phone beside his sit remained on call. "Tomura is already observing the sports festival for his future plans Doctor. Remind me again while you feel it important for me to view it."
"Because of the student currently fighting. From my understanding she wasn't involved in Young Shigaraki's attack on the USJ. But if she was I would've brought her to your attention sooner." Replied a gravely voice through the phones speaker.
The injured man concentrated his abilities on the sports festival television and observed the girl who the doctor was referring to. "Hmm?"
"As you may be able to tell. She shares similar characteristics with the Villian the two Plumber brothers fought in New York years ago. We tried to locate the brothers after the incident along with the villian but came up with nothing." Spoke the doctor.
"I recall the event. They had a quirk that seemed to have made them invincible against the villian. A quirk that would've been useful in my last confrontation with All Might. But we failed to find them." Mused the man as more air hissed from the machines he was connected to.
"I'm certain the girl and the villian are related somehow. And so I'm sure she has a connection that'll lead us back to that quirk."
"Excellent observation Doctor. We'll add her to the list for Tomura along with that Midoriya boy he seems to have a growing grudge against. And I suspect he has good reasoning from what he told me about the boy's loyalty to All Might."
"I'll have someone monitor the girl closely for us... All For One."
Bowsettes eyes shot open wide as a plan finally came to her making her grin ear to ear. She watched as Mina zagged across infront of her and drew her arm back to toss another glob of acid at her and then let out a roar of fire infront of the pink girl.
The acid users eyes widened like dinner plates and reacted to the burst of flame by basically laying back on the ground and sliding under it. She momentarily sighed in relief as she didn't get burnt to a crisp but the feeling was short lived.
A pair of hands grabbed her leg and lifted her of the ground and began swing her around in a circle. She screamed in hysterics as she looked down to see Bowsette grinning like a mad woman as she tightened her grip and continued to swing her around building momentum.
"HEY HEY WAIT! STOP!" Shouted Mina but her pleas achieved nothing as with one last swing the blonde girl tossed with a mighty throw out of the ring making the Pink girl thud onto the grass face first.
"Bowsette Koopa wins by a ring out!" Shouted present mic from within the commentary box. Which resulted in Midnight getting an eye twitch at her colleague taking away her duties from her once again.
The teacher cleared her throat "ah yes. Mina Ashido is out of bounds making Miss Koopa the winner!"
Bowsette grinned and threw a victory fist in the air along with breath of fire shooting out past her lips making the sight of her victory look more glorious.
Bowsette returned to the waiting room she stayed in before her fight to reclaim her phone she kept locked up in a locker that was in the room. The moment she picked it up it instantly begins to ring.
She yelps in surprise and fumbles with the phone but manages to catch it before the device got the chance to drop on the floor. She glanced at the caller ID and smiled as she read "Grandma Mia". She sat down on the bench beside the locker taking a deep breath before pressing the answer symbol to accept the call.
An elderly couple appeared on the screen. The man bald with streaks of grey coming through his black moustache along with the woman's brown hair progressing towards the colour grey aswell. Seeing the blond answer the phone they both smiled excitedly and cheered "Nipotina!"
The blonde couldn't hold back the natural happy smile that appeared on her first the moment she laid eyes on the two. "Grandpapa! Grandmama! What are you two doing up? Isn't it late back home?"
The woman smiled as she answered "You didn't really think we'd miss our granddaughters first Sports Festival did you?"
The young girl blinked at that "You're actually watching it?"
"The Whole Family Is!" Declared the man as he turned the phone to reveal a collection of moustache men and women along with their children gathered around the television watching the live feed of the sports festival. Seeing the phone aimed at them the entire Italian descendant family immediately waved and greeted the girl giving her as much praise as they could.
The girl resisted the urge to shed a tear at her family being so supportive of her dream and her competiting.
It was clear that she wasn't blood related to them. But she had known them for as long as she could remember. Poi and Mia made it no secret she was adopted but they loved her and raised her as a daughter like she was their very own. Bowsette always treated them like her grandparents hence why she refers to them as such.
Although she was indeed adopted by the family. She was never given the family name. Mario.
Poi and Mia had chosen from an early age that she should keep her original family name and would explain her family history and parents when she was older. Until then she was basically a Mario family member and when she wanted to pursue a path of becoming a hero both her grandparents supported her.
They had suspicions that she may of been influenced by their two sons despite there best efforts to keep them secret from her. That was an impossible task considering how famous the Mario Brothers were in Brooklyn.
Bowsette saw there news paper clipping in her grandfathers studie once when she was young and would occasionally search for their plumbing company commercial. She never met the brothers Mario and Luigi but had always wanted to after learning of them.
They never came home to visit since their plumbing business was just so popular they couldn't afford the time off with just the two of them working for it. At least that was the excuse Bowsette was given. Which she found odd considering most successful businesses employ more people to handle such a work load.
She'll find them and get answers one day. But for now. She'd focus on becoming a hero by getting into the hero course through winning the sports festival.
"How you holding up? Are you eating enough?" Asked Mia.
"I'm doing fine Grandmama. Although I'll admit I do miss your cooking. This Japan food is nice but nothing on a home cooked Italian meal." Replied the horned blonde.
"Oh that's lovely to hear. I'm sure if I send you a recipe or two you'll be able to handle it." Said Mia feeling confident in Bowsette to cook her favourite dishes.
Bowsette couldn't really say she agreed. Last time she tried cooking she ended up burning the pasta with quirk out of frustration. Can say honestly she was good at cooking meat though.
"Anyway kiddo we'll let you rest up for your next fight. The whole family is rootin for ya!" Said Poi proudly with another cheer coming from the rest of the Mario's.
"Thank you all. I'll try my best not to let you down." She declared before hanging up the phone. With the short family reunion phone call ended the shelled blonde exited the room to go sit with her classmates to watch the rest of the fights in round one.
The Darklands
Kamek fiddled with his staff nervously as he waited in the dark room the only light coming from the burning torches on the wall and the glowing orb that sat in its center. The Magikoopa rarely went out of his way to anger his master and commander. But he greatly feared that now he might.
He couldn't dwell on the thoughts for long as the doors of the room shut with a thunderous echo followed by heavy footsteps.
thud
thud
Thud
THUD
THUD!!!
"Why did you call me here." Asked a deep voice belonging to Kameks master.
"Sire! I've discovered something that I think you must see." Answered the small glasses wearing koopa.
"Is it a way to finally get rid of those two moustached thorns in my side?" Responded the king of the Koopas as he stepped into the light revealing himself looking at the magical orb.
"No sir. It's something from the human world."
Bowser huffed and turned to leave "I have no interest in anything to do with Mario's homeland."
"I insist you see!" Kamek all but shouted at his king almost regretting it when the shelled dragon turned to him grinding his teeth in annoyance.
"Fine. Show me then."
The magikoopa quickly flicked his staff like wand and activated the orb. The orb began showing an event in the humans world which to look to be some kind of fight. The orb quickly began to focus on one of the fighters making the Koopas eyes widen.
The fighter appeared to be a human but shared many traits and features with King Bowser himself. Tail, shell and horns along with the ability to breath fire.
The king of the darklands snatched the orb from its place and turned to Kamek with raw fury "READY THE AIRSHIP!"
"Of course sir!" Agreed the smaller Koopa as he summoned his flying broom to do as he was asked.
Bowser growled lowly as he tightened his fists but remained careful enough not to crush the orb. "And set a course for The Mushroom Kingdom!"
