Chapter 45

"The Council will now convene"

"Ambassador of the demigod camp to the east," spoke a young woman with storm-gray eyes

"Ambassador of the camp to the west," spoke a large young man with a bow slung behind his back.

"Ambassador of the Covens, and the Tribes of the Northwest," spoke a young woman with fair, almost pale skin.

"Ambassador of the Sorcerers," spoke a young man of African descent, a formidable Egyptian weapon next to him

"Hi, I'm from the Mount Ebbott Community," spoke a lax voice.

"Ambassador of the SCP Foundation," spoke Dr. Buck. "We thank you for answering our summons. I will cut to the chase. In recent times, we have noticed anomalous behavior among our wards, and have gathered intel that this is a nationwide, if not worldwide, event."

"It's true," spoke the east camp ambassador. "I have been in touch with the Ambassador from Pluto, and the signs are dire, surpassing anything we have handled on our own."

"The monster attacks show no pattern, no identifiable force behind them," said the Sorcerers' ambassador. "It's as if they're meant to cause as much chaos as possible without any other clear goal"

"What you're getting at," said the Roman ambassador. "Is that someone's trying to keep our hands tied, while this World War Three crisis is looming."

"It would appear they are hitting both fronts at the same time, if these forces are indeed one and the same" said the vampire ambassador.

"They are," said the skeleton. "Someone figured out that to win a World War, one would first have to eliminate the tiny factors, the factions that may intervene from the shadows and stop their operations before they even begin."

"That means the Foundation, and the demigods and the other groups of metahumans" said Dr. Buck.

"We're dealing with a strategist of unparalleled logic and scheming," said the gray-eyed girl.

"So what do we do?" asked the Roman ambassador.

"The Foundation's O5 Council had recently convened and had voted for non-interference," sighed Buck. "I question their wisdom, but the Foundation has certainly weathered events larger than this."

"Understood," replied the Greek ambassador. "Perhaps it's best to lay low and watch for now. But we will help who we can"

"Who's behind all of this?" questioned the Sorcerers' ambassador. "What in Ra's name are they in for?"

The skeleton spoke up. "An alliance of nations called the Hegemony are hell-bent on destroying Western civilization and reshaping the world in their image. They have allied with some of the darkest forces in the magical realms to destroy all opposition, mundane or magical"

"Well that explains the non-interference," spoke up the Greek ambassador.

"What makes you say that, Miss Chase?" asked Dr. Buck.

"The SCP Foundation's resources are spread all over the world. A bit too thinly, and Russia, China and Iran are hotbeds of Foundation activity. You're crippled."

"Nothing gets past you, Annabeth," said Buck, a rare, bitter grin on her face. "We could use a sharp woman like you in the Foundation…"
