Why does it seem everyone wants drunk Ruby shenanigans? Maybe she's a very calm drunk? There's no way she'll get into trouble with Jaune there. Also, many of you pointed out the Pyrrha Mercury scene. Yes… I felt really slimy writing that too. We know what Mercury is doing and yet, poor Pyrrha. She just wants a friend and he's acting like one. Pyrrha didn't do anything in this story to deserve it, but sometimes, choices have consequences. I really enjoy the debates on both sides about what she did and if it's right or wrong. Like with hiding her Semblance? People in the comments argued both ways about it. I really enjoy those posts and it gives me a lot to think about.
Also, does anyone know any good artists that I could possibly start looking at for commissions? There are a few things I want to get color pictures of and just looking for recommendations. It's all thanks to my P a treons who make this possible. Maybe one day, we'll get a picture of Ruby chopping wood.
If you continue to enjoy my stories, feel free to check out my p a treon.

"Might be a good idea to cut her off." Qrow muttered, watching his niece glare angrily, and yet at the same time adorably, at Jaune and the twins.
"She can't seriously be drunk off it." Junior chuckled. "Plus, the more she drinks, the more I add to your tab."
"Another!" Ruby demanded, slamming her bottle on the counter. "I'm thirsty!"
"Coming right up." Junior winked at Qrow and brought out another.
"You should slow down, Squirt." Qrow warned, trying not to laugh. "You don't want to be stuck in the bathroom all night."
"Pssh, I'm fine." Ruby waved her hand. "Jaune'sh the one who needsh to be careful. Those two husshiesh are up to no good."
Oh god, she was slurring and Qrow had to do everything he could to keep a straight face. There was no way Ruby was drunk based on the drinks being nonalcoholic. Just to make sure Junior hadn't mixed up the drinks, Qrow checked the bottle. Yep, the words nonalcoholic were listed in small letters below the name of the drink. Unless the manufacturer messed up, then there was no problem. Was Ruby just imitating what he and Yang acted like when drunk? It seemed like that had to be the case.
He wasn't sure if that was better or worse than her actually being drunk.
"We need to talk about some stuff." Qrow muttered to Junior, hoping to avoid delaying their stay. "Big stuff beyond the usual crap."
"Figured as much," Junior nodded. "After all the shit that happened. Meet me in the back in five minutes. Don't draw attention."
"Right, nothing unusual there." Qrow sipped his drink as he turned around to face the club.
"Why ish Jaune so shupid." Ruby muttered darkly.
"He's a teenage boy, we were all stupid at that age." Qrow answered.
"He should have shayed here with me!" Ruby started to cry. "Now I'm all alone!"
"There, there." Qrow patted her on the back lightly. "Relax. Jaune likes you. He's not going anywhere. He's just distracting those two for me."
"Really?" Ruby looked up with watery eyes and focused on just a couple words. "Jaune liksh me?"
"Yeah, Squirt." Qrow refused to tell her she wasn't really drunk. This was just absolutely adorable. If the music wasn't blaring, he would have snuck out his Scroll and recorded this conversation. "Jaune likes you a lot. Don't worry."
"I like him a lot too." Ruby smiled. "Eshpecially when we sheep together."
Qrow spat out his drink, unable to fully contain his laughter. When he snorted, a good chunk of the burning poison he was ingesting went down the wrong way. Ruby, unaware of his struggle, kept her eyes on the dance floor. Jaune was lost in the crowd, but she caught glimpses of him or one of the twins from time to time. Each sighting made her smile flicker, and she absentmindedly sipped her drink, which probably didn't help her mental state. Qrow didn't want to leave her alone, but he had no choice. Junior wasn't going to talk in front of her, and she wasn't in a state to watch and observe.
Looks like he'll have to teach them how to weasel information from people another time.
Five minutes had passed and he stood up.
"Bathroom." Qrow told Ruby. "Stay here, okay?"
"Shure." Ruby replied.
"I'm serious, kid. I'll be back in a few."
"I heard you!" Ruby huffed, annoyed. That was so unlike her, Qrow was going to have to check that beer for traces of alcohol.
Later, with a date to meet, Qrow got up and casually sat down his glass before heading toward the bathroom, feigning slight intoxication. One person briefly glanced his way, then returned to their own business. Going to the bathroom in such a state wasn't uncommon, providing an excellent disguise for someone who regularly drank. Instead of proceeding through the nearby doors, Qrow smoothly turned left, striding down a hallway with purpose. Once out of view, he could drop the act. Reaching the end of the hallway, he turned right and approached a door. Three quick knocks, and he heard the click of the door unlocking. Stepping inside, he found Junior seated behind a desk.
"Have a seat." Junior sighed. "Whenever you show up, I either get a headache or make a killing selling alcohol."
"I'm low on funds right now. " Qrow shrugged and kicked his feet up on the desk. "Came here to talk about the close call that could have brought a lot of Grimm into the heart of Vale.."
Junior's face darkened.
"You heard about that?"
"I was in Mistral, yelling at my bitch of a sister, and I still heard about it."
"It was a big deal, so I take it you're here to investigate that." Junior frowned. "Could have been worse."
"Pretty much." Qrow nodded in confirmation. At this point, he didn't need to beat around the bush. "So spill it. What do you know?"
"Wasn't it covered already?" Junior asked, confused. "The White Fang used an underground railway, loaded it with the stolen Dust, and tried to blast their way into the city. If It wasn't for some Huntsmen, they would have succeeded."
"Yeah, that's the public story." Qrow waved his hand dismissively. "I want to know more about Roman Torchwick's part in all this. What do you know about that?"
"Huh, wasn't he just being paid to help them?" Junior questioned back. A key lead that he was hiding something.
"We both know Torchwick isn't the kind of person to do something like this." Qrow crossed his arms and removed his feet from the desk. "He's a crook, sure. Stealing Dust to sell on the black market? He's done that now and then. But actively trying to destroy Vale? No, that's not his usual MO. I never met him personally, but he's a thief who loves attention. If Vale was overrun by Grimm, he would lose a lot of potential targets."
Qrow tapped the desk.
"The White Fang are the same way. They use violence, but it's directed. Something like this where innocent Faunus get caught up in the attack? Sienna Khan would never approve that. So tell me, Junior. What do you know?"
Junior appeared visibly distraught, his eyes repeatedly darting toward the door behind Qrow. There was undoubtedly something troubling him, and Qrow realized he had to approach the situation with caution. Whatever it was, it had managed to intimidate the leader of one of Vale's largest gangs into silence. Pushing too hard could lead to a violent outcome, and that was something Qrow wanted to avoid. He needed to be smart about handling this delicate situation. A part of him wished Jaune was there to witness his adept handling of this moment, appreciating how cool and composed he remained.
"Listen, Junior." Qrow leaned back in his chair in a relaxed motion, one arm hanging off the back. "I'm not here to bust you. You know that. I'm just trying to find out some information relating to an attack on Vale. An attack, I remind you, would have caused countless deaths and destruction of your business. This isn't some petty gang war. Someone was planning to wipe Vale off the map."
"Ugh… you're putting me in a tight spot, Qrow."
"Anything said here remains between us." Qrow promised. "I'll take full responsibility."
"It's not about you taking responsibility, I know you would." The man paused and rubbed his forehead. "If anyone finds out I told you, my life is probably forfeit anyways, regardless of what you do."
"Hmm?" Qrow raised an eyebrow.
"From what I hear, those that get involved or ask too many questions end up dead."
"Are you going to hide in the shadows then until whoever is responsible for the attack on Vale decides you're a liability?" Qrow asked softly. "Junior… you're not an idiot. If someone is willing to attack Vale like this, you know they aren't going to stop. It's only a matter of time until they try again. Do you want to just sit back and watch your empire crumble around you?"
"I'd rather live," Junior grunted. "Once you die, it's over. Even if everything collapses around me, as long as I'm alive, I can rebuild."
"What about those twins of yours?" Qrow flicked his head in the direction of the door. "If they get caught up in this? Aren't they like daughters to you?"
The large man went silent again.
"I'm here to figure out who's behind this and take them out." Qrow reiterated again. "Whatever you can give me will help make that possible. Vale's your home as much as it is mine."
"What I tell you, you didn't hear it from me." Junior muttered softly. "Seriously, if you ever tell anyone about this, give hints that you heard it from someone far away from me. Like in Vacuo or something."
"Yeah, yeah." Qrow brushed off his worries. "When have I ever had anything traced back to you? The only thing people know is I come here for alcohol, like 75% of Vale. And the beautiful ladies."
"You know the twins still hate you."
"Hey, they flirted with me first." Qrow shook his head. "We're getting off track." Junior smirked, as that had been his plan.
"This is all second hand," Junior told him. "But apparently, Roman had some trouble with another organization. In only a few days, several of his biggest contractors were found dead. Burned alive. After that, Roman started acting differently and focused on Dust thefts."
"You think someone is threatening him?" Qrow raised an eyebrow. "That would explain a lot actually. But burned alive? That would leave quite an impression."
"Tell me about it." Junior gave a short dry laugh. "The person I heard it from was an underling for one of those men."
"Where can I reach him?" Qrow asked.
"You can't. He's dead."
"Dead?" Qrow's eyes narrowed. "How?"
"The VPD found his body. Wasn't pretty. All of his skin was burned off and nearly every bone in his body was broken."
"They were sending a message."
"My thoughts exactly. See why I don't want to talk about it?"
"No, I understand that." Qrow nodded. "I promise, nothing I do will be traced back to you. We'll stop at a lot of places in Vale to make sure I don't stand out."
"Mostly bars?" Junior couldn't resist.
"It would be suspicious if I wasn't there."
"Good point."
With the information shared, they exchanged a few stories, engaged in minor conversations, and enjoyed drinks from a bottle Junior produced from behind his desk. While they conversed, Qrow couldn't help but ponder over Junior's words. The fact that someone powerful had compelled Roman Torchwick to serve them intrigued him. It seemed unlikely to be the White Fang, considering the new element of burning people alive. It pointed to the possibility that either a new fighter with a Fire Semblance appeared or the person Qrow had been searching for had made their way to Vale. And that was not good news.
The realization hit Qrow hard: the Queen's pawns were indeed present in Vale. If the Breach had succeeded, all of Vale's forces, including Beacon, would have been drawn there to handle the situation. This would have left Beacon vulnerable, making it an ideal opportunity for someone to exploit it.
Ozpin was right. Looks like he and I need to talk a bit face to face. It's a little earlier than expected, but Beacon is probably our next stop.
"Heh, well it was good catching up, Junior." Qrow chuckled. "But I should go make sure my brats aren't causing too much trouble."
"The ladies man and the girl who gets drunk on non alcoholic drinks." Junior huffed. "You keep strange company."
"Both of those two are pretty strong," Qrow warned confidently. "Underestimating them would be a mistake. The girl's a Grimm killing machine and the boy… could be considered a prodigy in some ways. Learns things quickly, along with having brains and an OP Semblance. Maybe your two girls will fall for him for real."
"Pssh, they are just teasing and hoping to swipe some cash from him."
Qrow laughed along with Junior, playing it cool as he stood up, signaling that their interaction needed to come to an end. Leaving at different times was essential to avoid drawing any attention. He discreetly checked that no one was lingering outside the office, then swiftly made his way to the restrooms. From there, he proceeded toward the main area of the club, skillfully disguising his movements. If anyone had been observing him, they would have only noticed him entering and leaving from the same spot.
The club was now even more crowded than before, adding to the challenge of locating Ruby and Jaune amidst the sea of people. It was going to be a real pain to find them, but Qrow was determined to do so. Ruby would be the easiest to find, as she was sitting at the bar.
Or she should have been.
Qrow stared dumbfounded at the scene before him.
Jaune was sitting at a table with Ruby hanging onto him from the side, arm wrapped around his back. The twins were sitting across from him, looking upset. As funny as the situation was, there was another girl sitting in Jaune's lap. One Qrow didn't know. She was short with black hair, had a white and black outfit, and seemed to be sipping a drink nonchalantly while basking in the attention.
"Fuck…" Qrow facepalmed. "He really is another Tai."
"So… you two work here?" Jaune coughed, trying to hide his awkwardness as he was dragged away from the bar by two attractive older girls. A dream of many boys around his age.
"Sometimes," Melanie admitted, holding onto one arm. Jaune was pretty sure she was the older twin, or at least acted like it. "We act as bouncers occasionally since we have our Aura's unlocked, much like you." She ran a finger down his arm. "I can tell you have some good muscles."
"And he dresses sharp too," The younger twin in Red, Miltia, giggled on his other arm. "A true Huntsmen and he's not a smelly drunk like the old man."
"I always did like younger men." Melanie purred.
"You'll spend time with us, right?" Miltia pouted.
Jaune's instincts kicked in, and an unshakable sense of danger washed over him, though he couldn't identify the source. It wasn't emanating from the two girls he had on each arm; they seemed harmless. Perhaps he was merely imagining things, but he couldn't shake the feeling that someone harbored strong animosity toward him. Nevertheless, his primary focus was on shielding Qrow from any distractions while he worked on extracting information from Junior. It was a pity that he couldn't eavesdrop and learn from his mentor's interrogation techniques directly. He'd have to rely on observing over time or getting a detailed account later to pick up the necessary skills.
Qrow's words still resonated in his mind.
'Act like you belong here.'
Uncertain about the best approach, Jaune realized that confidence was the key in this situation. He understood that his role now involved keeping these girls entertained and away from Qrow, as per the warning he received from him earlier. It was clear that he might have to use them as distractions, but that posed a challenge for Jaune. He lacked experience captivating tough girls' attention. The only idea that came to mind was to act differently, trying to be more assertive and charismatic than he usually was. It was a gamble, but he had to give it a shot.
Like Qrow…
"What guy could resist the company of two beautiful girls?" Jaune asked.
As the two girls exchanged glances, Jaune couldn't help but feel a bit anxious. He worried that his attempt to act differently and be more confident might have led to a misunderstanding. The last thing he wanted was for these strangers to develop feelings for him based on a facade. It would boost his confidence, sure, but he had no intention of playing with their emotions like that. It would be unfair and disrespectful.
However, his concerns were quickly alleviated by what happened next. The girls smiled knowingly, seemingly unfazed by his new demeanor. It became apparent that they understood the situation and had no romantic expectations. This realization reassured him and allowed him to focus on the task at hand without any unnecessary complications.
"HAHAHAHA!"
Both girls suddenly burst out laughing.
"What?" Jaune blinked in confusion, as he shriveled his head back and forth between the twins. "Did I say something funny?"
"It's adorable how you're trying to act cool." Melanie snickered, patting his cheek.
"You might have some muscles, but you obviously have little experience with women." Miltia added. "We could tell that immediately."
"Oh…" Jaune felt his ears burn.
"Aww, we embarrassed him, Mel." Miltia giggled. "Maybe we should apologize?"
"I don't know, maybe if he shows us a good time tonight, I might be willing to." Melanie replied smugly.
"I see where this is going," Jaune sighed. Even his denseness could tell what they wanted. "Should I buy you two a drink or do you want to dance?"
"Dance first, then you can buy us a drink." Melanie decided.
"Hope you have some moves and don't just flop around like a fish." Miltia warned. "You don't want to disappoint us."
"I suppose I can show you two how to dance," Jaune smirked. The twins looked at each other in surprise. Confidence suddenly oozed from the boy. Not the fake confidence he tried earlier. This time, Jaune actually had the skills to back his words up. Being the only boy with seven sisters caused him to learn a few skills unrelated to combat.
Dancing was one of them.
"Daaaaamn." Miltia was moving closer to Jaune on the dance floor. "Boy's got some moves."
"I'm full of surprises," Jaune winked, actually feeling pretty good about himself. When he was younger, he used to dislike learning to dance. The only reason he did it was because some of his sisters enjoyed it and needed a dance partner. No matter what Jaune personally liked, if one of his sisters needed help, he was there for them as a supportive brother. He had learned various dance routines to match any type of music, be it classical, pop, or rock. However, before today, he hadn't had many opportunities to show off his skills. "Think you two can keep up?" He teased the twins playfully.
"Is that a challenge?" Melanie asked, smugly. "We live in this nightclub. A dance off is our domain."
"If you're scared, I can call it off." Jaune shrugged, his smirk barely leaving his face.
"Oh, you are on!" Melanie jabbed a finger into his chest.
"I hope you're prepared to buy us a lot of drinks when you lose." Miltia huffed.
"And when I win?" Jaune asked, not backing down.
"We'll give you the honor of buying us a round." Melanie told him.
"I guess that's acceptable.' Jaune wasn't going to argue or try to act cool enough to get something from them. "Try not to regret it."
At that moment, the DJ played a techno song Jaune recognized from his sister's obsession before he left for Beacon. It was an easy song to dance to and one that allowed him to show off his skills. Since Qrow hadn't given him a signal to stop yet, he decided to keep going until told otherwise. Glancing over at the bar, he noticed only Ruby there; Qrow had vanished. This indicated that things were in motion, and Jaune needed to continue his part.
So he unleashed his dance moves.
The crowd around them quickly formed a circle, with cheers and clapping accompanying the show. Even the DJ adjusted the lights, focusing on them. Jaune glided across the dance floor, showcasing a few impressive tricks, and then gestured for the twins to join in. To his surprise, the two girls executed their moves beautifully, displaying well-coordinated choreography as if they had been doing this for years. Which, considering their claim that they virtually lived at the club, they probably had.
"Looks like we have some stars on the dance floor!" The DJ called into a microphone when the song ended. "Give them a hand."
Like they were told, the onlookers exploded in applause and cheers.
"Not bad." Melanie laughed. "But I think we won."
"Definitely." Miltia agreed.
"In your dreams." Jaune sniffed and rolled his eyes. "They were cheering for me."
"Look how confident you are now." Melanie poked him in the chest. "It's kind of hot. You should do it more often."
"But only for us." Miltia winked. "Don't show other girls."
"That might be tough." Jaune chuckled. "One of my closest friends is here with me."
"That little girl?" Melanie glanced over at the bar. "Pssh, you can do better."
"Isn't she a bit young to drink anyways?" Miltia asked, following her sister's gaze. "Huh, I think she's drunk already. Not attractive at all."
"Hey!" Jaune snapped, getting a little annoyed. "Don't insult her. Ruby's a top tier Huntress."
"Come on, we're just teasing." Miltia assured him.
"It's not funny." Jaune warned. "She gets enough of that without you two doing it and not even knowing her. She could probably knock you two around pretty easily."
"I doubt it." Melanie shorted. "She doesn't look that tough."
"Yeah, the last few people we fought found that out the hard way," Jaune snickered as he reminisced about the battles where Ruby had proven herself. He recalled moments like Tyrian losing his tail, the slavers being easily handled, and Vernal being slammed to the ground by the seemingly unassuming young girl. Ruby was undoubtedly a hidden gem, underestimated by many until they faced her in combat.
"Now if you don't mind, I'm going to the restroom real quick," Jaune stated, excusing himself from the conversation.
The twins exchanged surprised glances. It wasn't common for someone to reject their attention in favor of someone like Ruby, whom they perceived as not particularly good-looking and having a younger sister or childlike vibe. It was a blow to their pride, and neither wanted to admit defeat. Without uttering a word, they communicated telepathically, using their supernatural twin senses to coordinate their next move. They were determined to up the pressure on Jaune, who had proven himself to be full of surprises.
Jaune meanwhile, just wanted to cool off, both mentally and physically.
"Huh?"
The boy was about to enter the bathroom when he noticed a young girl, even shorter than Ruby, backed against a wall with an older, obviously drunk man looming over her. The girl had black hair styled in twin tails tied up with white bows. Her outfit consisted of a sleeveless black blouse with white frills on the chest and collar, along with a black ribbon bow hanging from the front of the collar. The blouse was short enough to expose her midriff, and she wore a knee-length skirt secured with a white belt.
Her green eyes reminded him so much of a certain redhead's, and he sensed boredom and annoyance in her expression as she fended off the man's advances. For a brief moment, she glanced over at Jaune, who had paused with his hand on the bathroom door. They didn't seem to expect Jaune to do anything to help her and merely flickered because of his sudden arrival. Without thinking or planning, Jaune suddenly veered towards her.
"Come on…" The man slurred. "Don't be that way. We'll have a fun time together… hic… You'll shee…"
"There you are!" Jaune stated loudly and firmly, causing the man to jump. "I've been looking everywhere for you."
"SShe'sh with you?" The man blinked in confusion, his eyes red.
"Yeah, she is." Jaune said firmly, reaching out and grasping the girl's hand. Staring at him curiously, the girl didn't seem to blink and just went along with it. "Don't run off on your own." Jaune then looked up to see if the man would continue to push. This was the oldest trick in the book and if the man wasn't as drunk as he appeared, then he might realize what Jaune was doing. However, the man just shrugged and staggered away, muttering to himself.
"Damn kids… hic… all the luck…"
Jaune sighed in relief as the man left before stepping away from the foul smelling restrooms so he could talk to the girl. The girl just followed without a word and seemed a little more amused and less irritated.
"You okay?" Jaune asked and she nodded. "Good, you need to be careful. There's a lot of shady people around here." The girl smirked at him and gestured at him in sign language. A very haughty attitude accompanied her gestures.
'I can take care of myself.'
"Probably," Jaune chuckled. "But you never know. Best to be careful of your surroundings."
The girl's eyes widened in surprise. There was no way she expected him to understand her. Instantly, she began to sign at him a question.
'You know sign language?'
"Yeah, one of my sisters wanted to learn about when we were younger and I helped her practice conversations." Jaune answered, as he began to sign it back at her. The girl seemed thoughtful and then glared at him.
'I'm mute, not deaf.'
"Oh sorry, I wasn't sure if it was easier for you." Jaune felt kind of stupid. He was just trying to be nice. "Well, just be careful and have fun and try to stick with your friends. You won't get hit on by drunk guys as much."
The boy waved to the girl and went into the restroom. He spent a few minutes washing his face and looking at himself in the mirror. He had to be careful not to get too drunk and cause problems. Qrow would have his head if he did. Laughing a bit at the thought, Jaune headed out, hoping the twins weren't causing trouble and maybe seeing if Ruby wanted to dance or something.
When he nearly ran into the same green-eyed girl.
"You're still here?" Jaune was confused. "Were you… waiting for me?"
The girl crossed her arms and glared at him.
"What did I do?" Jaune recognized that accusatory look. For some reason, the strange girl was mad at him.
'You chase a drunk away, chat with me, and then just leave like nothing happened?' The girl signed. 'Seriously?'
"I was just trying to help," Jaune protested. "I wasn't trying to flirt with you." Her eyes narrowed at his words. "Wait… did you expect me too?" He held up his hands. "I wasn't going to take advantage of the situation." Green eyes looked confused as she tilted her head. "What kind of people do you hang around with?" A smile graced her lips as she giggled silently. Jaune wasn't sure what was funny, but figured he was the butt of the joke. Rubbing his neck awkwardly, he sighed. "If you want, you can hang out with me and a friend of mine, along with a couple other people if you want."
The girl grabbed his arm and hung onto it while leaning against him.
"Seriously?"
She looked up and pouted cutely, a lot like Ruby, and Jaune just gave up. The girl snickered softly, knowing what she did, and then looked down. When Jaune couldn't see, her eyes changed from green to one being pink and the other one brown. Just as quick as they changed, they flickered back to green.
"Sure, fine, why not?" Jaune relented as the girl didn't seem to be budging. Another hanger on wasn't going to be too much trouble. If it kept her from being harassed by other guys, then it was just something that he as a Huntsman should do. "Come on. I'll introduce you to the others. What's your name anyways? I'm Jaune."
'Mint.' Came the response and she oddly did sign language pretty well with one hand as they headed back to the main area.
The twins weren't too hard to find, already at a table with a round of drinks.
"There you are." Miltia's eyes zeroed in on him. "We would have been really upset if you bailed on us."
"After we were nice enough to buy… a… round…" Melanie's words trailed off as she saw Mint clinging on Jaune. "Who's the midget?" Her words suddenly grew cold.
In response to her question, the short girl's expression grew irritated and sharp, as her eyes flickered back to pink and brown.
Both twin's stiffened at the sight of that change.
"This is Mint," Jaune told them, unaware of what just transpired. "Some drunk guy was bothering her so I helped her out and offered to let her hang out with us."
"You helped her?" Miltia muttered, looking skeptical, like she couldn't believe the girl needed saving.
"It was just an old drunk guy who didn't know what he was doing," Jaune shrugged. "I just had to step up and he left." Mint giggled silently and laid her head on his arm as they sat down.
"Are you sure she needed help?" Melanie asked, raising an eyebrow.
"It was obvious she was being harassed." Jaune answered, surprised a couple bouncers wouldn't care about a girl in their establishment being bothered by a drunk.
What he didn't see was Mint bringing a finger from her free hand across her neck, directed at the twins, causing them both to grow pale.
"Thanks for the drink." Jaune picked up his glass with his own free hand. "Next rounds on me." He was planning to use Qrow's tab since Qrow assigned him to be the distraction.
He didn't even get a chance to take a sip when someone called his name.
"JAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEE!"
The next moment, a familiar figure was hanging over his shoulder as Ruby jumped on his back and hung on.
"How could you leave me!" The girl wailed. "I've been waiting forever!"
"R-Ruby?" Jaune stammered. "Why are you… are you drunk?"
"NO!" The girl denied, though she smelled of beer. "I didn't drink that mush…"
"Uh huh." Melanie crossed her arms. "Real scary girl right there."
"She might get snot on us with all that blubbering, Mel." Miltia added with a smirk.
Jaune ignored them and focused on the emotionally distressed girl next to him. She wasn't full on crying, but her eyes were watering.
"Ruby, you knew I was just going to go dance with some… friends..." Jaune told her.
"Awww, he called us friends." Miltia giggled.
"...so why don't you have a seat with us." Jaune finished, ignoring the girl in red. "You know I wouldn't leave you."
"Promise?" Ruby sniffed.
"Promise." Jaune assured her. He hadn't had to deal with too many drunk people in his life. One of his older sisters once. That had been a strange night when she burst into his room and started hugging him in the middle of the night when he was asleep. She kept mentioning something about keeping him forever. Girls were weird drunks. Ruby didn't seem to be an exception. "Come on. Have a seat"
"Don't leave me again." Ruby humphed, sitting down next to him and glaring at the twins. "Not for those hussies." She grabbed one of the drinks on the table and gulped it down.
"Did she just…?" Miltia looked at her sister.
"That little brat." Melanie confirmed and both twins looked at the girl with a weird combination of irritation and surprise.
Mint didn't appreciate being ignored and responded with a glare at the intruder. Since the newcomer caught Jaune's attention briefly, he found himself looking away from her. Seizing the opportunity, Mint decided to take action. She stood up and plopped her buttocks down on Jaune's lap. Caught off guard and still distracted, Jaune didn't have a chance to defend his personal space.
"Huh?" Jaune looked down at the girl, who was sipping a drink. Looking closer, it was his drink she took. "Hey, that was mine!"
The girl looked up at him with a pout and he felt his annoyance draining away. Melanie and Miltia shared a knowing look.
"Fine, whatever."
He realized he didn't need to get drunk that night, and in retrospect, it was probably for the best. Ruby had clearly consumed too much alcohol and was now a mess beside him. Being smaller than him and inexperienced with drinking, she got intoxicated faster than he had anticipated. With Ruby in such a vulnerable state, Jaune knew he needed to keep a watchful eye on her. He wouldn't let anyone take advantage of her or the other girl he helped earlier. As long as he was around, he could act as their protector.
Plus, Ruby was incredibly cute as a drunk, while Mint seemed used to drinking.
"JAAAAUUUUNNNEEEE!" Ruby whined, when he wasn't paying attention to her. "Who'sh she?!" Hanging off Jaune's arm, Ruby stumbled a bit as she tried to stand up. Succeeding in the end, but hanging on Jaune's shoulders for balance.
"Yeah, Jaune." Melanie added fuel to the fire by playing ignorant. "Who is she? Your girlfriend?"
"And he was hitting on us all night." Miltia faked gasped, a hand on her forehead. "He's such a player."
"Woah, hey now!" Jaune couldn't let such defamation of character continue. "Don't tarnish my good name!" Mint didn't seem to mind and was giggling as she sipped her drink. The twins knew it wasn't true either and just enjoyed teasing him. However, the arms around his shoulder quickly tightened around his neck as Ruby squeezed.
"Who ish she?" Ruby repeated, her words soft and almost sounded… angry?
At this point, Jaune was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Three people were teasing him; Ruby was acting strangely due to her drunken state; and Qrow had yet to return. He was starting to wonder when he would get a chance to have some fun himself. With frustration building up, Jaune decided to play a little joke, though he knew Ruby might not appreciate it, especially if she remembered it in the morning.
"This is Mint, our adopted daughter," Jaune announced, trying to lighten the mood.
''PPPPPFFFFFFFTTTTTTT!''
The unexpected declaration caused Mint to do a spit take, spraying her drink across the table. Melanie and Miltia sat there in stunned silence, processing what had just been said.
Ruby blinked a couple of times, seemingly trying to process her friend's words. "Really?!" she exclaimed, pushing off Jaune. "I forgot! Poor Mint!"
Even Jaune hadn't anticipated this reaction. Apparently, nobody else did either. Ruby released Jaune and wrapped her arms around Mint, who was still sitting on his lap. At first, Mint was too stunned to react, but she soon started pushing Ruby away. Ruby, however, was an expert hugger and wasn't deterred. Despite Mint's protests, Ruby continued to embrace her tightly, showing no intention of letting go.
"Mint, I'm sho shorry!" Ruby sobbed, as she pulled Mint's head into her chest. "Jaune and I will get you shome ice cream later!"
Mint paused and seemed thoughtful at her offer. Her decision was made when Melanie and Miltia began to laugh. Finally pushing Ruby off her, Mint hopped off Jaune's lap.
"Aww, is Jaune's daughter angry?" Miltia giggled.
"She looks just like him," Melanie added.
Mint drained her glass and then threw the object at Melanie's head. The girl ducked under the flying projectile and laughed as it smashed against a wall.
"No fighting, Mint!" Ruby admonished, which only made the entire situation funnier. Even Jaune was laughing now.
"I turn my back on you two brats for a few minutes and the place goes to hell."
Jaune and Ruby looked over to see Qrow leaning against the table, seeming to be amused rather than angry with the smile plastered on his face.
"Uncle Qrow!" Ruby cheered, suddenly happy again as she leaped into his chest.
"You make it seem we haven't seen each other in ages." Qrow commented.
"She's pretty drunk." Jaune explained simply.
"Uh huh." Qrow replied with a knowing look. "Well, I'm done. Let's get going."
"Leaving already?" Melanie asked.
"Come on, you can stay a little longer." Miltia purred, scooting near Jaune. The twins were having a lot more fun than they realized they were going to. It would be a shame to let things end so soon.
Jaune was trying to figure out how to respond and tell them they couldn't stay as they had other obligations, but he never got the chance. Qrow didn't seem inclined to help him either. However, unexpectedly, someone else came to his rescue– Ruby. She lunged off her uncle and grabbed Jaune's arm, though she stumbled a bit in her intoxicated state. Thankfully, holding onto him prevented her from falling. With a trembling finger, Ruby pointed at the twins, trying to make her point.
"He'sh MY MAN! Get your own, hussies!"
A loud snort escaped Qrow as he struggled to hold back some of his laughter.
"R-Ruby?" Jaune stuttered, his face turning red.
"Wow, she really is drunk." Qrow commented, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Time to go, Squirt, before you get in trouble." Effortlessly, he threw his niece over his shoulder like a stack of potatoes.
"Let me go!" Ruby whined, pounding on his back weakly as her legs kicked. "I want to shay and drink!"
"Nope, we're leaving." Qrow chuckled. "Say goodbye to your friends." He was aware of the looks, but this was a nightclub and most people probably assumed some kid snuck in and was being forcefully removed.
"I don't wanna!"Ruby cried, continuing to hit her uncle's back. "We can't leave my daughter!"
"Your daughter?" Qrow raised an eyebrow at Jaune.
"Long story." The boy answered as he got up to go. He took out a few Lien from his pocket and put it on the table. "Sorry, I can't stick around, but here's money for a round on me."
"We don't need your chump change." Melanie glared at him. "Just leave already."
"It's not like we're going to miss you." Miltia added, crossing her arms and looking away.
'I might.' Mint signed to him. 'Come back and we'll play again.'
"Sure, Mint." Jaune chuckled. "I'll stop by when I can."
"Don't think we'll be so nice to you next time." Miltia warned.
"Aww, here I was looking toward another dance off." Jaune winked at them. The little alcohol in his system finally showed. "I'll beat you two again."
"You didn't win!" Melanie slammed her hands on the table.
"You're dead next time you show up!" Miltia yelled from next to her sister.
Mint was holding her side and laughing silently as she watched.
"Not bad, kid." Qrow told him, as he and Jaune walked through Vale, the man still carrying Ruby. She had finally stopped struggling and was snoozing on her uncle's back. "It looked like you held their attention."
"They just enjoyed trying to humiliate me," Jaune replied. "Though they didn't expect my dance moves."
"More things your sister's taught you?"
"Yep. Who knew it would come in handy on a mission?"
"Beacon doesn't teach people how to blend into urban environments or how to shake down people for information." Qrow commented. "That's stuff you only learn while out in the field. Congrats, kid. You're ahead of your classmates."
"Wish I could have seen you do it, over just hearing about it." Jaune admitted.
"Not much I could have done about that," Qrow replied seriously. "Those twins of Junior's? Have loose lips. They will talk in the right situations. It was best they didn't overhear anything. Sorry for throwing you to the wolves, but it was the best option available to us."
"I felt they were just humoring me now and then." Jaune rubbed his head. "But they actually gave some compliments that felt genuine."
"Fighting in the wilds for weeks and months starts building up a lot of muscles, Jaune." Qrow laughed. "You might find more girls looking in your direction."
"Think so?" Jaune suddenly imagined being popular at Beacon. Having girls actually chase after him over him chasing them felt pleasant. "Might be nice."
"Careful, or you might make a certain girl jealous." Qrow jerked his head at the still snoring Ruby.
"It's just the alcohol talking." Jaune brushed off.
"Sure, kid." Qrow replied, as if he knew something the blonde didn't.
"So what did you find out?" Jaune asked, changing the subject. It just felt weird talking about Ruby with her being unconscious right next to them.
"I'll let you when we reach the motel."
There was a reason Qrow used the term motel, over hotel. Hotels were nice, with room service, pools, and other amenities. Motels were the bare necessities. There were two beds in the room Qrow got, a TV with three channels, and a bathroom that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. It was equal to, if not worse than, the rooms they got in some of the smaller towns, which was a bit of a shock as they were actually in Vale proper. Qrow laid Ruby down on one bed and then sat down at the foot of it.
"Seems like there's some people involved in the attempted Breach outside the White Fang and Torchwick." Qrow told Jaune. "Who, I don't know yet, but they seem to be blackmailing Torchwick to help them."
"Won't Atlas and Vale just interrogate him?" Jaune asked, sitting on the other bed. "Seems like that's the first thing they would do."
"Oh, Atlas definitely will." Qrow confirmed in an instant. "You have no idea how long Jimmy has wanted to catch him. Thanks to your two teams, he finally got his birthday present. Man, I can't wait to rub it in to him and Winter about how students captured someone they couldn't."
"No wonder Winter holds you in such high regard." Jaune rolled his eyes.
"Everyone does, I'm that awesome." Qrow pushed his hair back with one hand.
"So are we going to investigate this group blackmailing Torchwick?" Jaune wondered.
"Possibly, but these guys are professionals and I can't guarantee your safety yet." Qrow looked serious as any amusement from earlier vanished. "I'm going to talk to Ozpin tomorrow about our next steps. I'm not the only agent of his, so he might have other information to pass on. Right now, the trail's running cold."
"How dangerous are these people?"
"They blackmailed one of the most famous thieves in Vale, set the White Fang to indiscriminately attack Vale, and burned alive several other crime lords." Qrow rattled off, counting on his fingers. "Safe to say, these aren't people you should be inspiring to meet."
"You make a good point." Jaune agreed quickly, sweat forming on his brow. Then he realized something Qrow said a moment early. "You're going to talk to Ozpin tomorrow… not call him tonight… are we…?"
"Caught on, have you?" Qrow grinned, proud of the boy's deductive skills. "Yes, we're heading back to Beacon first thing in the morning so I can talk to him in person. Earlier than planned, but you two can hang out with your team, attend some classes, do teen things like talk about boys or something. Yang did that enough."
"Yes…" Jaune's voice went into a deadpanned tone. "Ruby and I will talk about cute boys with our teams."
"Whatever you're comfortable with," Qrow mocked. "I saw you looking at Junior."
"If you make me throw up, I'm going to do it on you."
"Damn, that would be the third smelliest thing I've ever had thrown on me."
"Only the third? I'll have to work on that then." Jaune crossed his arms. "On Bullhead rides… unless you splurge for that motion sickness medicine."
"Blackmail won't work on me." Qrow huffed and also crossed his arms in defiance. Jaune stared at him and the man stared back, neither backing down.
"SNNNNNNNNRRRRRRT!"
Ruby suddenly let out a loud snore and turned over on her back,
Both men looked down at her and then chuckled. Someone, even when asleep, Ruby could lighten the mood.
"She's really out of it." Jaune commented. "Too much alcohol? How much did she drink after I left? She only took one from the few Melanie and Miltia bought."
"A couple bottles." Qrow answered. "But that wasn't enough to get her drunk."
"A couple bottles?" Jaune asked incredulously. He had seen Ruby down two before he left. "Sure it's beer, but Ruby's not a big girl and it was her first time. You should have had them cut her off!"
"It's fine," Qrow brushed off his worry. "She's not really drunk. The beer she got was nonalcoholic."
Jaune had opened his mouth angrily at how nonchalantly Qrow was acting about his underaged niece getting plastered, when he froze at the new information.
"Non…alcoholic?" The boy stared at Qrow for a minute as his brain processed things. "But… why was she acting like that?"
"The brain is a powerful thing," Qrow answered, glancing back down at Ruby for a moment. "She thought she was drinking alcohol and, having never had it before, assumed she was drunk. Her actions were probably based on what she knew plus what she has seen Yang and me do."
"So it's your fault?" Jaune accused. "That she was hanging on me, and acting like a jealous girlfriend?"
"Maybe a little." Qrow smiled. "Or maybe she believed she was drunk and that helped her get the courage to do what she wanted."
"You can't be serious…" Jaune shook his head. "Ruby and I aren't like that… we're just friends. Sure, we're close and willing to do anything for each other…"
"I never said you were dating." Qrow raised his hand. "How you two define your relationship is up to you. As long as it doesn't interfere with your responsibilities. It's probably a good idea if you two don't get together while traveling like this. You won't believe how many people get in trouble because they sacrifice themselves to save a lover."
"Don't go telling Ruby this!" Jaune warned. "You'll confuse her."
"I'm not going to tell her the truth about tonight." Qrow warned.
"You… aren't?"
"Nope. Are you going to tell her she didn't drink any alcohol?"
Jaune's mouth went dry as he shook her head. This was a secret both of them were going to take to their grave. Ruby would probably die of humiliation if she knew the truth about what she did tonight. Taking a deep breath, Jaune relaxed a bit and decided on something else he needed to do.
"I can call my team and let them know we'll be at Beacon tomorrow, right?"
"Knock yourself out. Oh, let Ruby's team know too if you can. They would probably want to know."
"Huh?" Ruby rubbed her eyes and slowly woke up. "Where am I?" She was in some strange room she didn't recognize.
"Morning, sleepy head." Jaune chuckled, from next to her. The girl spun over to see her friend sitting up. "Have fun last night?"
"I… er…" Ruby shifted awkwardly. "Where are we?"
"A motel," Jaune answered. "You fell asleep after drinking too much and Qrow carried you here. Oh, he's out right now getting us breakfast, so he'll be back soon."
"Did I... make a fool out of myself?" Ruby asked tentatively, trying to recall the events of the night. She had only vague memories of what transpired – feeling angry at Jaune for leaving her alone, yelling at the twins, and something about some short girl. It all felt like a blur, as if she was present but not fully there. Yet, to her surprise, her head didn't hurt. She wondered why she didn't have a hangover like Yang and Qrow usually did after drinking. However, her cheeks burned with embarrassment as one key detail became clearer in her mind.
'He's MY MAN!'
As Ruby tried to piece together her hazy memories, she couldn't be sure if she had actually said those things aloud or if she had merely imagined them. The loud music in the club might have muffled her words, making them difficult for anyone else to hear. Her mind raced with questions and self-doubt. Why would she say something like that about Jaune, her friend? Those two girls were clearly not good people; as they seemed to look down on others. Perhaps, in her intoxicated state, she became more candid and wanted to warn Jaune about them. It sounded plausible, given her altered state of mind.
"Not really," Jaune replied with a shrug. "You were more clingy to people, bawled a bit, and proposed to some random girl."
"WHAT?!" Ruby shot up out of the bed, horrified
"HAHAHAHA!" Jaune broke and started laughing. "I'm kidding, Rubes. No, nothing happened!"
"You jerk!" Ruby started punching his shoulder over and over.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry! Mercy!"
"Hmph!" Ruby crossed her arms and looked away from him. "You deserved that." Her cheeks burned a bit as the previous night began to come back slowly and clearly. Why did she remember it? Yang always said she didn't remember what happened when she drank. Was she lying about that or was her sister just not able to hold her alcohol?
"Maybe a little." Jaune chuckled. "Listen, I've got a few things to tell you before Qrow returns. He said I could tell you while he's gone to save time. It's about the people we're looking for."
"What did he find out?" Ruby asked anxiously. "Are we going after them?"
"They seemed to have forced Roman Torchwick to steal Dust for them," Jaune recited. "Someone in their group has a fire Semblance and burned a bunch of people alive to intimidate him."
"No!" The girl gasped.
"But the trail ends there." Jaune continued. "All we know is this group has powerful individuals who can force Torchwick and the White Fang to work for them. We're heading to Beacon so Qrow can talk to Ozpin.
"That's awful…" Ruby muttered. "Who would use their power like that when they could destroy Grimm and help people?" The girl looked at the ground and then her eyes widened as her head shot up. "Wait! Did you say we were going back to Beacon?"
"As soon as we eat." Jaune confirmed. "I don't know for how long though."
"I have to let my team know!" Ruby cried, reaching for her Scroll.
"I told Nora last night," Jaune assured her. "And asked her to let your team know. I bet they are waiting to meet us."
"I bet they are." Ruby agreed, a huge grin plastered on her face. This piece of good news overrode all the bad news. "Yep!" She had glanced at her Scroll. "Yang sent me a million texts asking if it was true."
"Going to respond?" Jaune winked in amusement.
"Maybe?" Ruby giggled, enjoying the moment more than remembering what happened next night. "We'll see if they're waiting for us."
As the two kids laughed, the door to the room burst open and Qrow stepped in. Noticing they were awake, he tossed a couple breakfast burritos at them before sitting down on the other bed.
"Eat quick and let's get going."
"Really went all out in the breakfast department." Jaune replied, unwrapping the burrito.
"We still have Atlas ration bars."
"Your generosity knows no bounds and it's an honor to eat this."
"That's what I thought you said."
Ruby was trying not to laugh at their banter as she ate.
The trip back from Vale to Beacon felt like an eternity for Jaune and Ruby. The anticipation of reuniting with their friends after over a month of intense training and harrowing experiences made time seem to crawl. They had faced challenging situations, battled monsters and criminals, been lost, and narrowly escaped death multiple times. Yet, against all odds, they were still alive and kicking.
As they sat on the Bullhead, Jaune couldn't even feel the usual nausea he often experienced during air travel; he was too focused on the thought of their impending reunion. When the moment finally arrived and the Bullhead landed at Beacon, Jaune and Ruby couldn't wait any longer. They rushed out of the ship, eager to see their friends again, with Qrow following closely behind them.
They barely got ten feet away from the Bullhead.
"JAAAAAAUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNEEEEEEE!"
In the distance, movement caught Jaune's eye, and a white and pink blur rapidly approached him. He immediately recognized the familiar orange hair and knew exactly who was coming his way. In a split second, he spun on the spot, preparing himself for the impact. With his back leg braced, the blur collided straight into his chest, and strong arms wrapped around him in a big hug. Jaune couldn't help but smile widely as he embraced the approaching creature.
"Good to see you too, Nora." Jaune laughed, returning the hug.
"You're finally back!" The girl cheered, nearly crushing his bones in her grip. "It's been forever!" She blinked and looked up at him, still not letting go. "Huh… have you grown taller?"
"I don't think so?" Jaune shrugged and only when he released his own grip on Nora, did she finally let go. The girl reached up and seemed to be measuring him with her hand above his head. "If I did, it's only an inch. We haven't been gone that long."
"It feels like you have though." Nora pressed the issue. "What do you think, Ren?"
"Hmm, it's possible." The boy clad in green walked up and fist bumped Jaune. "Good to see you back safe and sound."
"Good to be back."
Ren observed Jaune from head to toe, trying to comprehend what Nora had been talking about. Physically, Jaune's height probably hadn't changed much, but the difference Nora sensed seemed to be in the way Jaune carried himself. Due to his previous lack of confidence, Jaune had always held himself in a way that made him appear smaller than he actually was. However, now, with newfound self-assurance, he exuded a more confident demeanor, which in turn made him feel taller and stronger. Jaune might not have even been aware of this transformation. Listening to the adventures Jaune recounted to him and Nora, Ren could understand how these experiences had changed him. At this moment, Jaune truly felt like a genuine Huntsman.
Ren couldn't help but feel disappointed that Pyrrha hadn't come to witness Jaune's return. Nora had informed Pyrrha that Jaune would be arriving this morning, but she had chosen not to come out. As Jaune looked around for his partner, a hint of sorrow flickered in his eyes. Ren concealed his own emotions to avoid dampening the mood, but he knew that a deeply intimate and potentially painful conversation awaited the two when they eventually spoke.
Meanwhile, Ruby was in a different situation.
"You're finally back!" Yang laughed, pulling Ruby into a hug and ruffling her hair.
"Get off, Yang!" Ruby struggled out of her sister's vice grip.
"But it's been so long since I could give my cute younger sis a hug!" Yang protested, holding firm.
"You said you wouldn't do this," Weiss rubbed her nose as she felt a headache coming.
"Didn't you want to treat Ruby more as an adult too?" Blake asked.
"I guess…" Yang relaxed and Ruby was able to pull out before looking up at her sister's face. Then without warning, Ruby pulled her into a tight hug. "Huh?"
"I missed you too, Yang!" Ruby smiled and then moved to Weiss. "Now you bestie!"
"Do I have to?" Contrary to her words, Weiss didn't try to escape and even hugged Ruby back. "Good to see you in one piece."
"I missed you so much!" Ruby replied and then turned to Blake, who had accepted her fate and let Ruby embrace her. Amber eyes didn't seem to protest too much though. They did flicker toward Jaune for a moment and harden before turning back to Ruby.
"Are you back for good or what?" Yang asked.
"No idea…" Ruby turned to face her Uncle, who was letting them catch up.
"We'll see, but a few days at the minimum." Qrow assured them. "Now I'm required to ask this before I go see Ozpin, but Firecracker, how's your grades doing?"
"Er… fine?" Yang looked away.
"Mini Ice Queen?" Qrow glanced at Weiss.
"She's barely passing… and don't call me that!"
"Eh, she's passing. Nice job." Qrow shared a fist bump with Yang. "Now have fun catching up while I go find Oz. I need a raise."
Only Jaune and Ruby were aware of Qrow's true intentions. They understood that he was having a serious conversation with Ozpin about the secretive organization responsible for attempting to breach Vale and unleash Grimm upon the city. This organization had also resorted to killing people in order to coerce Torchwick into working for them. However, to their other friends, Qrow simply appeared as a laid-back man, casually joking around and having a friendly chat with his employer. None of their teammates knew the gravity of the situation or the true purpose of Qrow's discussion with Ozpin. As Jaune and Ruby observed Qrow's actions, everything about the man's past began to make much more sense, particularly to Ruby.
"SAL-U-TATIONS!"
Ruby and Jaune looked up at the familiar voice.
"Is that…?" Jaune asked as if he didn't fully believe his ears.
"PENNY!" Ruby waved.
The orange-haired, secretly robot girl showed up, waving to them excitedly. However, what she did next caught them off guard. She bent her knees, leaned towards them, and then shot forward at high speeds, zipping past everyone towards Jaune and Ruby. Jaune barely had time to react, but fortunately, Penny had aimed for her female friend. The impact of the metal girl hitting Ruby sent her flying backward as they collided, leaving a small rut in the ground as they slid back.
"Ugh…." Ruby moaned in a daze, seeing stars.
"It is good to see you again, Ruby." Penny indicated with a bright smile from on top of her.
"Couldn't you have tackled Jaune?" Ruby asked, her body aching.
"I caught my own ginger, that one's yours." Jaune answered.
Nora held up two fingers in a victory sign.
Feel free to leave a review, comment, suggestions, or ideas, I love reading them. If you have a question you wish to ask and would like a quick answer, feel free to message me directly. I try to respond to those within a day or two. Comments, I tend to respond to in the next chapter.
nBappo: Well that was one hell of a night. I have a feeling Ruby will remember everything eventually. Jaune might also slip up with the non alcoholic beer. I'm more interested in the conversation between Qrow and Ozpin. And the new secret organization, still so much to be answered.
