I don't own Hetalia, okay? I would like to thank all of you who have read, faved, watched, gave kudos and bookmarked this fic over the years. This should be one of the final chapters before I do a time skip which I have a few ideas that I want to really do with that. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
Arthur and Francis sat in the back of Alfred and Ivan's car as they headed to the airport, following Alastor as he said he had to return the rental car he had to get around the area. The air was quiet as they drove, knowing that the twins would miss their Grunkle Al, and Arthur was still thinking about some of the things that he had discussed about the other day. Nikita was still sour about her doctor's appointment as that was the time that the doctors also realized that the twins needed some booster shots, and she had enough needles during the allergy tests. "Are you sure we can't have Grunkle Al stay? I can give him my room and share with Dimitri." Nikita pouted.
"I am so sorry my little Nikita," Ivan said as they turned into the parking lot at the airport. "But he has to go back to his home to get better."
"Thank goodness..." Arthur said. At this Francis looked over at him with a scolding look. "Francis, you know I cannot stand being around my brother too long."
"I guess it's better than it could have been." Francis sighed. "I have been thinking we should go to Britian this summer."
"I cannot lie, I have been thinking of it myself." He said as they got out of the car and headed to the rental car drop off where Alastor said he would wait for them. "It might not be such a bad idea. And there's a lot that I miss, I won't lie." He spoke. "And I guess we can go to France too."
"I would look forward to it." Francis said. "I have actually been looking at hotels in the towns your brothers live."
"You don't say..." Arthur said, partially serious about seeing his brothers again and practically just suggesting it in the hope that Francis would let it go.
"Why would I lie about something like that?" Francis said as he followed Alfred, Ivan, Nikita and Dimitri to the airport.
"I guess not." Arthur said as he smiled as Alfred put Nikita on his shoulders and Ivan the same with Dimitri.
"There you go." Alfred smiled as Nikita laughed.
"And you can help us find your Great Uncle." Ivan said as Dimitri looked around. "He is at the car rental drop off."
"Which one?" Alfred asked as he turned to face Arthur. "We need to know because the twins want to help find it."
"I see him!" Dimitri said as he pointed over to where Alastor was standing with some suitcases around him, dark brown hair with a large flyaway cowlick standing by the gate door.
"Where?" Nikita asked, tugging on Alfred's hair causing him to wince.
"Over there." Dimitri said as Alastor noticed them and waved himself.
"No fair, you have a higher view than I do. Papa is way taller than Daddy!" Nikita said. Arthur and Francis laughed as Dimitri led Ivan and Alfred around to the rental car drop off station. Noticing Ivan and Alfred Alastor perked up and smiled. "Grunkle Al!" Nikita yelled causing Alfred to wince with the loud shouting in his ear that he wore with a slight smile.
"Alright Nicki, not so loud, I think he knows we're here." Alfred said with a nervous smile trying to get Nikita to not scream so much in his ear.
"Agh! Little Lassie!" Alastor said as he picked up Nikita from Alfred's shoulders and spun her around giving her a big hug. "I'm going to miss you. Same with your little brother there. You two are so much fun."
"Yeah?" Dimitri asked.
"Aye." Alastor said. "I am going to miss you so much."
"I made my character in the golf video game! Daddy helped me send a friend request so we can play together. He said you wouldn't be able to accept until you got home." Nikita said.
"I cannot wait." Alastor said as Nikita hugged him close. "I'll work extra hard on getting better for you." He felt a tear well up in his eyes. "Excuse me, Artie, do you have some allergy medication? I think something on this side of the Atlantic is acting badly with me."
"Sure." Arthur said as he made to rummage in his pocket acting like he was looking for some medicine and ushered his brother to a large potted plant display so that no one would see him getting emotional. He knew how they both were when it came to moments like this and how they both hated people seeing it. Once he was certain that no one would hear them, he looked at his older brother with a slight respect. "You're choked up having to leave?"
"Aye." Alastor said. "I've told you before I am scared about this. And I would hate for it to be the last time I see little Nikita this time at the airport. I know she's set up an account in that little golfing game I play with some of Dylan's kids. She thinks I'm so awesome."
"Well, I still think you are a wanker at times, but seeing how you are with the boys and the grandchildren, you are less of a wanker." Arthur sighed.
"Same here little bro." Alastor said. Arthur looked crossly at his brother. "Don't deny it. You had times you fueled the dysfunctional Kirkland brother fights." He sighed. "But I think you are less of a wanker too."
"I guess that's the best we are getting now..." Arthur said.
"I guess." Alastor said as he pulled Arthur close and hugged him. "And you may want to learn to relax a little. I mean I am the one getting poison put in my blood to try and make me better. You might outlive me if you don't give yourself a heart attack first." Arthur looked annoyed but Alastor sighed. "You have two wonderful boys, and three cute grandkids and well, Francis, what he sees in you I will never know. I have to admit, I kind of envy you." Arthur smirked. "Don't let it get to your head Captain Merlin."
"Sot off." Arthur said. "Might as well let the twins say goodbye as well."
"Of course." Alastor said.
Meanwhile, Matthew was munching on a cookie that Katyusha had made when Gilbert had come over and picked up one of the cookies and took a bite. "Damn, your wife makes a good cookie..."
"Thanks, but you could have asked first" Matthew said crossly.
"What kind of cookie is that?" Gilbert asked.
"Maple pecan chip." Matthew said.
"Hmmmm...I have to talk to her. You see the station is looking for something to have after the 12 o'clock news. And seeing what was on after the news, I got to thinking, maybe there should be a cooking show hosted by Ms. Katyusha. People seem to love her on the New Year's celebration so after taking a bite of this cookie of hers that I am getting an idea to combine her appeal with her cooking skills and having an afternoon show of that." Gilbert said.
"Wow..." Matthew said. "I'll certainly let her know what you said."
"Good." Gilbert said. "And tell her to make more of those cookies. I really could eat an entire box." Matthew rolled his eyes. "And get to make up soon. You're on."
"I know, I know," Matthew sighed.
That evening when Matthew had come home, Katyusha ran up and hugged him. He cracked a smile knowing that was the tone that she used when she had great news, she had wanted to tell him. Has Gilbert called her already called about that idea he had for a show? She gets like this at New Year's for much the same reason... "Oh I got the best news today! I am so glad you spoke highly of my cooking. So much so that Gilbert wants to have me in to do a test cooking show with them!" Katyusha smiled then her face fell. "Oh god, why do they want me?"
"Because you have a great personality and you're a great cook and great mother." Matthew said. "And Gilbert says they love you at the New Year's Eve celebration and he's looking for a show at the afternoon. And if it picks up well enough, some of our affiliate stations may want to show it too from what he's been saying."
"Affiliate stations..." Katyusha paused.
"Yeah, ones in neighboring areas sometimes pick up stories off of us. Gilbert explained it to me." Matthew said.
"Wow...and what should I make?" Katyusha asked.
"Gilbert suggested the cookies." Matthew said.
"Oh my..." Katyusha said as nerves came over her. "That many people watching me... It's...so much..."
"You'll do fine." Matthew said. "You do know that you are good at this kind of thing. Besides," He added knowing that she was still insecure that other girls had found him attractive. "People will love the idea that the handsome anchor is married to the host of the cooking show..."
"I suppose I can give it a try." Katyusha smiled.
"Great." Matthew said. "I know you can do it well."
"If you think so, then I can do it." Katyusha said as Charlotte began to cry. "I have that."
"Let me help you." Matthew said as they headed to Charlotte's crib. "She is my daughter too after all." He smiled.
Natalya picked up a highlighter and wiped it over a paragraph she read that would be an important part for her to keep in mind for school. Toris had a class that was running much later than she had expected, so she was alone in the house while Feliks was working on some of his videos. The noise of the game was one that she had gotten kind of used to. Feliks was building something in some challenge in Minecraft, she couldn't quite understand what exactly he was saying as this was one of the videos he was making for his Polish audiences. The music was something that was rather soothing and actually helped her focus, until she heard a string of Polish "Awwww pieprz mnie! Właśnie zginąłem w jakimś głupim upadku! Nie moja cholerna wina! Głupia gra!"
"Ublyudok! Etot chelovek ne mozhet molchat'! YA pytayus' uchit'sya!" Natalya yelled as she threw down her book.
"Oh shit." Feliks said as he paused his game and headed out. "Did I make you made Natalya?" He knew some Russian and could tell that she was mad.
"You know a few words of Russian. Mainly the profanity." Feliks said.
"Well, I was trying to study, and I heard you yell something in Polish. Probably dying in that game foolishly." Natalya scowled.
"Well yeah, I am likely going to be called an idiot when I upload that footage, thank god it was not a live stream, heck I could likely edit my failure and act like nothing happened unless I can find some way to spin it off and make it funny." Feliks said as he saw Natalya look at him annoyed and motion for him to get to the point. "Well, I can clean it up in post as they say. And I am sorry for disturbing you. You know, while you can be a total bitch sometimes, you are great for Torry-boy there. I'm jealous that you landed him, and I couldn't."
"Okay..." Natalya said wondering what Feliks was talking to her about.
"You work hard, and I swear I have seen you help drill all that medical stuff into Torryboy's head." Feliks added. "Sure, you may be like some freaking dominatrix but who knows, I secretly think that he's into that kind of thing..." Natalya looked at Feliks even more confused. "But I couldn't live with myself if I let Toris do something that would ruin his life."
"And what does this have to do with me?" Natalya asked as she looked on curiously, thinking that he was going to say that she was ruining Toris's life. No way was she going to let this man tell her that she was bad for Toris, act like he knew everything about their lives. Or he would use this to try and get Toris all for himself, be it fraternal or romantic. She wasn't quite sure, but she was certain that Feliks was pansexual if she remembered correctly. And she was not going to let him break up their relationship when she knew that Toris loved her and that she would go to the ends of the Earth for him. And he worked well with the twins, and Dimitri was practically attached to him. He had potential to be a great father, and part of the reason she was so conflicted during her pregnancy scare earlier in the year. Not many men looked at her like they could stand her, and she was not going to let Toris go.
"Relax, I do not think you would be bad for Toris, actually I think you're perfect for him. You're what keeps him going, what is going to make him the great man I know he is. And well he wants to be an oncologist..." Feliks said, not too sure what it was.
"Cancer specialist." Natalya clarified.
"Cancer is awful. My grandmother had vicious breast cancer. That was when she gave me her rosary. She knew how was, withy my sexuality and she wasn't the most supportive, but she didn't give me a hard time about it, just that it was between me and God and no matter what, she loved me."
"That's not bad for women of her age in Poland." Natalya said.
"So that's why I am behind Torriboy becoming one. He's very smart, hardworking and dedicated and you will be what keeps him on the path. I just know it." Feliks said as he headed to the cupboard where he had a bottle of vodka that he had written his name on it. "And well, if I think that, then I would be honored to make your wedding the best ever. And I will need to get your measurements."
"I'm sure you do." Natalya sighed as she put her book down and stood up. "Let's get this over with."
"Good." Feliks said as he pulled out a measuring tape and began to take Natalya's measurements to make the dress he had promised for their wedding.
Meanwhile, Toris sighed as he headed up the steps to their apartment and he opened the door, taking off his jacket and smiled to see that Feliks and Natalya were getting along a little better and that she had taken his offer up on the wedding dress. Now if Feliks can keep his mouth shut and not anger Natalya. He thought as he headed into the kitchen and looked in the fridge for something to drink or something to eat.
"Oh Torriboy, you can have some of my good vodka, it's on the counter there." Feliks said as he took a note of some of the measurements he had when measured Natalya. "This dress is going to be so beautiful by the time I am done with it and will have a nod to your Russian heritage."
"I'll find a good dress for big sister to wear and one for Nikita for her to be the flower girl." Natalya said.
"Let me know if you need my help." Feliks said.
"I can handle that part." Natalya said. "I do not want to put too much on you at this time. My dress is fine. Besides, Nikita is growing like a weed, and it would be hard to get the measurements for a dress now that in June she will be too big for."
"Fair point." Feliks said.
Alfred was quickly saying goodbye to Francis and Arthur as he dropped them off at their house after Alastor had headed to the gate of his flight. Ivan wanted to make the drop off quick as while Nikita was rather sad and had been punished for trying to run past security so she could stay with Grunkle Al as much as she could. Luckily Alfred had caught her before she could cause an issue with security, but at this Alastor had promised a big box of Scottish sweets if she would go back with Alfred, causing him to roll his eyes at his uncle but he knew in the back of his mind that he had to do something to keep her calm and willing to go home. He didn't want to leave but he had to. It was rather painful, but he had done what he set out to and that was to reconnect with Arthur a little bit. So, while he didn't want to leave, he knew he had to and planned the first thing he did when he got home was to accept Nikita's invitation on the game and begin playing with her. The idea that she would be willing to play with him made Alastor a little easier on his mind.
"So, I have to take the twins home. They're falling asleep and I think Ivan is going to have Nikita do some extra chores tomorrow for running after Uncle Al like that." Alfred said. "Let me know when he gets in, that way Nikita can be a little easier in her rest. I swear before she fell asleep, she had crazy ideas about him getting in some kind of crash."
"I hear it all the time from people who knew you growing up, Nikita is just like you, quite the imagination." Arthur said.
"I didn't have anything like that in my mind growing up!" Alfred said as Francis laughed. "Well, I have to go guys, let me know when Uncle Al gets in." Alfred sighed as he went in the door and looked back and saw Ivan smiling at him. "What?"
"Did your dads compare NIkita's imagination to yours?" Ivan laughed.
"So what?" Alfred said.
"Nothing." Ivan said. "We need to get these two to bed."
"Yeah." Alfred said.
Arthur was followed back into his house as Francis smiled and poured himself a glass of wine. "I see you and your brother have mended the bond."
"Not exactly, he's just becoming less of a wanker when he's staring down his own mortality." Arthur sighed as he put the kettle on. "But it was nice seeing him again and he does get along with the boys and the grandchildren well. It's nothing like that scene from Brave or anything. I watched it with the twins earlier." He added.
"And Nikita loved Merida?" Francis laughed.
"Indeed." Arthur smiled. "Well, it's been a tiring day. I am going to take a shower and then go to bed."
"Mind if I join you? Honhonhon" Francis laughed.
"Why not Frog, you're likely going to do so anyway." He said with an annoyed sigh, but Francis knew the classic flirtatious sign that Arthur would give.
"No way you can stop me." Francis said. "Not like you try." He teased.
