Being X once told him there would be no second reincarnation and unless the son of a bitch for some reason forgot to send his soul to hell then being X was just a fucking liar. Tanya had died a second time in battle without developing an ounce of Faith.
Was this a victory or a loss? Tanya did not achieve her goal of getting a peaceful life nor did she give in to Being X's attempts to corrupt her mind. This could be considered a tie to some extent, but Being X didn't seem to agree. Why else would she be reincarnated once again in a seedy orphanage as a little blonde, blue-eyed girl named Tanya Smith?
At least this time the self-proclaimed god chose a different country to reincarnate her and the fact that there was no war around the corner was a great improvement, although the lack of his annoying voice was disturbing and made her paranoid. Being X had been silent without saying a single word since. He hadn't even spoken to her when he reincarnated her. Had he forgotten about her? Or was it some pride thing that made him to prideful to accept being even for Tanya?
Damn, the day that horrible entity that calls itself God left her alone, the communists will fly as pigs.
This new life was... Difficult. Life in this decade was not good for UK orphanages and his seemed to be particularly unpleasant. Added to the fact that it was a Catholic orphanage, the recipe for chaos was made. However, despite the constant lack of food, Tanya managed to get her hands on as many books as possible.
At the age of 6 she far surpassed the rest of her fellow orphans in all aspects, this caused an opportunity for a group of boys older than her to try to beat her up outside the orphanage. Emphasis on the trying part as Tanya made sure to put her years of experience in the military to use. However, this futile attempt was not the important thing relevant to this event, actually when she returned to the orphanage one of the nuns in charge named Marta made sure to beat her up a couple of days later as punishment for defending herself so brutally, even so she had no not a single proof of who had hit the other boys.
The nun Marta called Tanya a monster non-stop and, despite Tanya's best attempts to get her off her back it seemed that the damn thing was focused on screwing up her life.
In the end the punishment was a week without food for Tanya . If her irritation was high enough it would all go down the drain when the same tall skinny boy who had caused all this to begin with shook his bread in front of her.
It was then that the boy's head burst into flames.
It was something mysterious and chaotic for everyone, but somehow Tanya found herself fascinated by this strange nostalgic feeling. The boy was able to quickly put out the flames by rolling on the ground however the injuries would leave him partially blind for life.
That was Tanya's first contact with magic in this new world and if she didn't find herself suffering from having an empty stomach and the last beating received by the nun, perhaps she would have planned a thousand ways to use it to achieve a good, calm and peaceful long life; Unfortunately the simple fact of living in misery was already shortening her life spam so she need to get rid of that problem and she just get a useful tool to do that.
In the following years she never went hungry again, every time she was punished without food or simply felt an uncomfortable stomach, some food would disappear from the store as if it were magic, and whenever someone tried to harass her that person would wake up the next day with several burns on their Body.
The nuns soon succumbed to fear and although they were calling Tanya the devil nonstop that seemed to be more of a compliment than anything to her. Physical punishments were impossible to apply as long as Tanya wasn't willing to let them hit her. And eventually a single look from the girl was enough to make everyone in the orphanage tremble.
This unmistakably ended up isolating Tanya from the rest of the orphanage but this didn't bother Tanya. She was too busy planning her future and researching magic to focus on the useless trash living under her roof.
At first glance at the history books, she seemed to have returned to her first world but several decades earlier of his dead but amazingly close to his original birth and magic was nothing more than a fairy tale as in her first world.
Still she felt the magic within her and began to control it as best she could, of course without a calculation gem everything seemed to have a limit that left her doing little more than childish things and making her dream of flying once again sunk into the dumb. Other than her no one in the orphanage seemed to be able to harness magic, despite this she couldn't just assume that she was the only one with this ability.
Tanya however felt slightly embarrassed by her sadistic behavior and childish use of magic but she really needed a way to take the stress off of her and if doing so was avoiding future stress so be it! Leaving that aside she constantly felt herself missing her old stinky life in the trenches or more than that filthy lifestyle she missed her battalion, so her fellow orphans would have to forgive her for taking out her dark emotions on them, besides this was a good way to practice this new magic.
The day was cloudy and it was quite windy, Tanya watched nostalgically from the roof of the orphanage. She was 10 years old at the time, ten years of pure suffering in the orphanage. At first she thought that this orphanage would be as nice as the previous one in the Empire and from a neutral point of view this new orphanage was actually better than the previous one; however Tanya realized something, she had changed since her last time. It wasn't the salaryman who came to the orphanage, it was Tanya Degurechaff: a war veteran, and no matter how much she tried to deny it, the two were essentially different entities.
A black cloud swirled in the sky over the orphanage and Tanya clucked. This new magic was very troublesome, it seemed to be powered by her negative emotions. There was a lot of practical consideration behind it, but she wasn't in the mood to think about it.
At that moment the door to the roof opened and a gang of boys slipped onto the roof. Tanya glanced at them without really changing position.
The group of thugs glared at her as they walked towards her.
"D-demon." The stuttering boy tried to speak. "Get out of this place!"
Tanya was quite surprised. 'This guy has balls, but I doubt he's just coming here to tell me that' "Or what?"
Then the boy pulled a revolver from behind his back and pointed it at Tanya's face; she noticed that the gun had a safety and whistled slightly. "Where did you get this from?"
The barrel of the gun was a foot from Tanya's face yet she wasn't the least bit scared. "Well , what are you going to do to get me to go away? " Tanya stuck her forehead against the gun with a sadistic smile. "Do you know how to use one of these, do you have the guts? Don't play with me you idiot."
In a quick and fluid movement Tanya took the boy's gun and applied a hold that kept him on the ground. The rest of the boys ran away in panic.
Tanya handled the gun and checked for bullets. "Hmm, did you intend to use these bullets against me? Unfortunate" Tanya hit the boy a little until he started crying. "Where did your guts go? You wouldn't last long on the front lines. "
Tanya pummeled the boy some more before letting him go, after a few minutes of inspecting the gun Tanya shrugged.
"I'm not a revolver person but this will be a good birthday present..."
Albus Dumbledore was the Head Teacher of Hogwarts of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he was an old man who could be many things but today was wistful and worried. He found himself once again going to the seedy orphanage from which the Tom Riddle once emerged.
Leading him inside was a pale-faced nun with a large burn scar on her hand.
"Professor Dumbledore, i-in your letter you mentioned that you had a place for Tanya at your school..."
Albus looked at the flustered nun before nodding. "That's right, I intend for her to come to Hogwarts although she can always refuse if she want but I would have to talk to Tanya first."
The nun energetically denied. "No, we don't want her here, take her away, please, she... she is..." the Nun looked around with fear looking for someone while energetically caressing the scar on her hands.
Albus looked at her and guessed the difficulties a girl with magic would go through in a Catholic orphanage. "Strange things happen around her?" He asked while knowing to a large extent what the answer would be, even so what the nun told him was outside his expectations.
"She's the devil." The nun caressed her scar more strongly. "She's not a girl, she's a monster. Since she was little girl she have never cried, she has always read forbidden books and although this is not very normal it is not something too strange either, but she is extremely violent; When she was six years old, she beat up 3 9-year-old boys with a sadistic smile on her face and then burned the face of one of them, leaving him partially blind. She is pure evil, if she is in a bad mood she will harass us in the most sadistic ways and if someone opposes her, they will wake up the next day with various burns on their body even now I feel like the fire burns me and during the nights I have woken up praying lies, my body sweats cold after seeing her in my dreams." The nun's eyes were unfocused with fear. "I don't know what you see in the girl and I don't care either, just take her out of here."
Albus tapped an old wooden door a couple of times. "Tanya, may I come in?"
A cute 'Come in' sounded from inside the room. Albus opened the door and found an extremely well-ordered room, there was not a single speck of dust on the floor, the bed was made up and there was nothing that seemed out of place in the room; All of this gave Albus a slight feeling of discomfort, as if there was no living being living in the room, and yet sitting on a chair in front of him was a girl. Her eyes were a beautiful blue color; however this color looked cold and overshadowed by the calculating look behind those eyes. Her hair was blonde with a shade that reminded him of gold and was well groomed and cropped to ear length. The girl's features were mostly sharp and strongly European, on the other hand her body was barely the size expected of a 9 year old girl yet she didn't seem to be suffering from hunger. Albus was aware of the amount of money in the orphanage so finding her in a healthy state was also strange.
Having the letter sent by Hogwarts in her hand Tanya gave her an analytical look before beginning the conversation.
"Nothing is mentioned in this letter about a personal visit from a staff member."
Albus questioned what had happened to the girl to make her so wary of strangers, before shaking his head and taking another of the chairs to settle across from Tanya.
"Perhaps, however this is a special case." Albus took a short pause in his words as he looked at the 11 year old girl who was looking at him in an imposing way almost with contempt but also with the predatory wariness of a dragon judging whether her opponent was worthy of attention or not. A look that reminded him of Severus's Snape on the surface but it was closer to Voldemort 's in essence without being either of them. Albus then wondered if he should take the same precaution with her as with a dragon, with such an approach the old man commented: "It seems that you feel quite comfortable abusing your magical powers, however it seems curious to me that even if you have enough control over your magic enough to burn your contemporaries you had bother to get a muggle weapon."
Tanya's eyes were razor sharp; they darted over the headmaster as he sensed that she was searching for something. Finally Tanya's eyes fell on Albus's wand under his robes and she sighed lightly. "With all due respect sir, I am in possession of this after receiving an attack from 'my contemporaries' of it, the revolver in question was confiscated as a protection and about the use of my magic there is no rule promulgated by the British Parliament to limit such uses, and while it would probably be futile to deny its use I must still define that I only do the bare minimum for self-defence reasons." Tanya waved her hand wide. "Also, I don't know the procedures of you magicians but if you find yourself in possession of something that is probably much more dangerous than a firearm I find your criticism of my handling of weapons hypocritical."
Albus adjusted his moon-shaped glasses; the girl's words were solid and quite eloquent for someone her age, words more typical of a politician or a Gringotts goblin than of an 11-year-old orphan who has not received basic education. "Excuse my audacity, Miss Smith, however, I was curious about why you had a 'firearm', I'm sorry you saw it as a criticism." Albus spoke with a soft and kind tone. "Oh, and you called my wand something more dangerous than one of your weapons, right? yet you seem not to know what magic is."
Tanya scoffed. "I may not have a 'wand' or go to magic school but I know more than you might think about what magic is and isn't." Flames danced in Tanya 's gaze as she talked about it.
The relatively curious Albus used the Legilmency on her to see her memories and what he saw was a city burning in flames, the sound of artillery blaring from a distance, corpses on the ground. That was... Worrying... Where did those memories come from? What was that destructive war and why was it so vivid in his memories? Albus wanted to go deeper than that, but was afraid that pushing too hard might have a negative effect. With a sigh Albus reached for his wand and took it out, he noticed how Tanya tensed following his movement. Then Albus waved his wand and suddenly from the tip of his wand several butterflies flew out.
Tanya 's eyes widened in surprise and her hard expression fell for the first time. It was then that Albus found her, found what he was looking for: childish innocence. Tanya stood up and curiously inspected the butterflies in the place, she looked confused and curious in equal measure as she verified that the butterflies were in fact living and real beings. 'How?' Her lips exclaimed in a whisper as butterflies flew around her, one of the butterflies landed on her nose making her sneeze tenderly. A slight smile appeared on Tanya 's face as she seemed to be at peace for a few moments.
Albus would be lying if he didn't think that the girl had the same or even bigger potential for destruction that Tom Riddle had in his day, however he would also be lying if he said he had no hope for her future; with a kind smile Dumbledore said. "Magic is more than destruction, little Tanya." Tanya's face suddenly turned red with embarrassment, yet she didn't correct the old headmaster. "Hogwarts opens its doors to everyone, you are still free to refuse if you do not want however, I hope to see you in the great hall this August first. Hogwarts has a fund for students with economic difficulties and in a couple of days Professor Flitwitch will come to the orphanage to help you get the material for the classes."
Tanya still seemed somewhat uncomfortable and embarrassed with the situation; a slight stutter escaped her voice before she regained strength. "I-I would be delighted to be in your care Professor..."
Albus smiled at Tanya . " Albus , you can call me Albus ." The man stood up and walked towards the door.
Before Dumbledore could say goodbye and leave one last question came from inside the room. "This... It may be a strange thing to ask, but isn't there just a secret war between magicians that I have to participate in?" Tanya 's eyes seemed begging, almost manic as she asked, Albus unable to contain his curiosity, observed what the girl was thinking, what greeted him was the pale face of a brown-haired girl with empty eyes and a hole left on her forehead. This was…difficult to decipher, but Albus thought the best thing he could do for this girl was to make her feel safe with his words. "No, Hogwarts is safe and there is no war in which you have to participate."
Albus heard Tanya's sigh as he left the room.
Hey! You know, when you get into the fanfics nest it is almost impossible to get out of them and although I have another half-started fanfic from youjo senki and I'm busy with two other stories right now... I had to write this and I didn't even want it to be so long. But hey, if I'm going to make a youjo fan fic senki, well, the best I can do is do it with the books that I read 14 times in my good days (and I don't consider myself a potterhead despite that). In fact I think I'm a little rusty with all the details of HP, but that is going to do more than look for the details and move on.
I don't know how often I'm going to post this, but the first chapter took about 4 days and considering that I'm going to have to sync with other stories... don't be surprised if it takes me more than two weeks to update.
