Glitchtrapped Chapter 01: An Innocent Soul Damned
By IrysGundam005
Vanessa remembers the day she first met Gregory. And how much she wished that she never had.`
She had been driving home following a long and dull night at the Mega Pizzaplex. A sentence that perfectly described (most) nights that she had at the famous Fazbear amusement park/pizzeria. And it mostly consisted of the usual. Looking at computer monitors to view security footage to ensure that no one broke in, mandatory patrols with a flashlight in hand, and the occasional checking up on the animatronics to see how they were doing. With maybe a trip to Parts and Services if they somehow sustained damage or the like. Which given the temperament of one Montgomery "Monty" Gator, was sometimes a guarantee to happen. Though more realistically, the gator was a bigger threat to others than himself.
As she drove, Vanessa couldn't help but feel a ping of guilt regarding Monty. She knew the reason why the gator was so temperamental. And it was all due to those rumors that he had been responsible for the disappearance of the prior band mate, Glamrock Bonnie.
But outside of all that, however, it was always: long, dull, and very boring. Why Fazbear Entertainment decided that a huge place staffed mostly by robots needed a single human security guard to oversee everything was beyond her comprehension. Though given her current circumstances, she had long suspected that he might have had some involvement in it. Still. Long and boring beat some of the more...gruesome nights that she got at the place.
Vanessa groaned to herself as she turned into a corner turn. "Ugh. Not enough coffee for this job." Vanessa mumbled, shaking her head and letting out a yawn. She was tired and just wanted to go to bed. Though fatigue was threatening to rob her of her consciousness.
She shook her head.
No. That wasn't quite right. She knew it was more than just fatigue at work. She knew full well it was also guilt. Guilt due to the actions of the second (and very unwelcome) passenger that resided within her body.
Vanny.
Vanessa was not entirely sure what Vanny was. An alter ego, a split personality, or some sort of AI that had been implanted into her mind. All she knew was that following that fateful day she had agreed to beta test the AR game Fazbear Entertainment had been developing, The Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience, she had been cursed with this...thing that had made its home in her mind. And that ever since then, her life had been going downhill. As she found herself bent and twisted to serve Vanny's need to kill and maim innocent children in the name of the wicked force she called "Master". The same wicked force that allowed her to first come into existence when she had foolishly followed the tape's instructions to allow him to merge with her.
William Afton.
The infamous child murderer who had caused the Missing Children's incident all those years ago. The man who cast a long, dark shadow over the Fazbear brand. And who somehow refused to die, and still clung to life. Whether it be as the digital avatar known simply as Glitchtrap, or the malformed mess of flesh and machinery that lay just beneath the Pizzaplez. In the old abandoned pizza place that had been used as a trap by his arch nemesis, Henry Emily, to finally rid the world of his evil.
Fat load of good it had done, apparently. And now Vanessa was stuck with a hellish troll living inside of her head. One that would periodically take over her body, and hunt down children to torment and slaughter. All so that they could harvest that accursed substance from their bodies as they died in agony.
Remnant.
The accursed elixir that William Afton craved. The essence of souls boiled into a liquid form made more potent by the pain and suffering experienced by those it was taken from prior to their death. Hence why he and Vanny went after the children: their young fears and lack of emotional mastery made their fears much stronger. And thus, the Remnant they harvested from them was much stronger than it would have been had it come from an adult.
It was disgusting. To see what should have been full and happy lives cut short just so that some lunatic could live. It sickened her to her very core. And the fact that she was a part of it just made it ten times as worst. She could only prey that those children whose lives she unfairly took away were at peace. In a place where they would no neither pain nor suffering.
A place that Vanessa was certain she would never see. For she knew deep down when whatever stroke of fate allowed the Grim Reaper to claim her, there'd be a special place in hell waiting for her. And if Vanessa was being completely honest, she deserved it one hundred percent of the way. And one she would be happy to drag Vanny down into.
Though knowing her luck, Vanny would just wind up as one of her tormentors. Though if fate was a little kind, she'd happily accept her damnation if Vanny got to suffer with her.
Vanessa was so absorbed by her own thoughts of her self-loathing, that she nearly failed to notice the car right in front of her that was parked at the stop light. She only just avoided hitting his rear end, but the guy had apparently taken notice.
"Hey! Watch where you driving yeah crazy blonde!" The driver of the other car yelled before he drove off when the light turned green. Unaware of the irony of that statement, and leaving Vanessa there to just hang her head, and grumble to herself.
"Ugh. Can't continue." She groaned, as after she got a block away, she pulled over. She was only a few blocks away from her apartment. But a mixture of fatigue and guilt had finally forced her to pull over and take a breather. The blonde security guard let out a deep sigh as she rubbed her tired eyes. Deciding that it would be best to catch a little shut-eye before continuing lest she crash (though a part of her wished she could), she leaned back in her seat as she reclined the backrest. Taking off her cap and setting it to the side, she closed her eyes and allowed herself a quick nap.
Unfortunately, there wasn't enough sleep in the world that could make her forget the horrors that she had lived through. And the pain and misery she had inflicted upon others. For she could still hear their screams even now. The voices of little ones were robbed of their lives as they wept and pleaded for mercy they would never receive.
Each and every voice is as clear as day.
"Ms. Bunny, please! I don't wanna play this game anymore!" A little girl had screamed as Vanny ruthlessly stalked her. Knife ready to slice down into her throat.
"I'm scared! I want Mommy and Daddy!" A little boy had cried, just before Vanny slipped up behind him, and slashed his throat wide open to silence his cries for help forever.
"Please let me go, Ms. Bunny! Please!" A little girl pleaded as Vanny dragged her by the ankle of her leg.
"It hurts! It hurts!" Screamed a seven-year-old Asian boy with messy black hair and equally black eyes as Vanny drop her knife deep into his ribcage.
"I won't tell anyone, I promise! Just let me go home, Ms. Bunny!" A little girl no older than seven pleaded as Vanny backed her into a corner, and loomed over her like a demon.
"WHY!?" Screamed a twelve-year-old boy with black hair, black eyes, and dark skin as Vanny plunged her knife into his socket, and pulled out his eyeball.
Vanessa bolted open and started gasping. Her heart felt like it was racing at a million miles per hour. As she then struggled to catch her breath. Eventually, she managed to calm herself down enough to regain control of her breathing. She then took in a deep breath, before letting out a deep sigh.
"Fucking hell!" She hissed, a wave of shame and guilt overcoming her. Tears formed in her eyes that soon came down her cheeks. "Goddamn, you, Vanny! Goddamn, you!" She whispered, cursing whatever cruel whim of fate had forced this upon her. She buried her face into her hands and began to cry.
Eventually, Vanessa managed to calm herself down. And after managing to regain proper control of her functions, Vanessa managed to force herself to sit up as she returned the chair back to her original position. Looking at the clock, she saw that she had gotten half an hour's worth of nap time. That, she decided, was enough to keep her going for now as she reached for the key still in the ignition.
That was when she first saw him for the first time out of the corner of her eye.
At first, Vanessa hadn't been sure she had seen him. She thought it had been her imagination playing tricks on her. The lack of sleep getting to her. But when she looked again, she saw him amidst brown cardboard and old newspapers. Rubbing her eyes to ensure her vision was as clear as possible, she was greeted by his form yet again. Causing her to lean up from her reclined seat.
"The hell?" She whispered, unable to tear her eyes away. "That's not...what I think it is, is it?" She questioned herself.
And that's when her curiosity peeked.
In hindsight, she knew she should have left well enough alone. But a combination of a lack of sleep clouding her judgment, her own curiosity getting the better of her, and no doubt a subtle influence from her alter ego, made her disregard her better judgment. And so, she had gotten out of her car and went to investigate. Making her way to the alley to try and confirm or deny what she had seen.
And sure enough, there he had been.
Before her was a young boy no older than ten or eleven. Currently sleeping inside a cardboard box, and wrapped up in newspapers as makeshift blankets. From the looks of him, he was probably no taller than four feet. He had messy brown hair, apricot skin, and a body that was far too thin for a boy his age. He was wearing a blue T-shirt with a pale blue collar and two white stripes positioned horizontally across his chest, a white singlet underneath his shirt, tan cargo shorts that went down to his knees, and a pair of white socks and white, red, and cyan-colored sneakers with dark grey soles. All of which were dirty and worn.
Vanessa could only stare down at him in shock. "A child?" She whispered as she continued to stare at the young boy sleeping in the box. Her mind was already at work trying to comprehend what she was seeing. What on earth was a child doing sleeping out in a box in an alley wrapped up in newspapers? Was he a runaway? Was he Homeless? Whatever his case might of been, the sight of it all made Vanessa's heart ache in sympathy. 'You poor boy. I can't imagine what left you to be all alone out here.' She thought. She then noticed the newspaper he was wrapped up in, and her heart sank further.
It was an article she knew well: "MISSING!: Residences Continue To Mysteriously Disappear!". The images of several missing children who had went missing over the past year or so.
Children she had knew.
Children she had worked with.
Children that she had made her kill.
That was when a horrible realization hit her like a ton of bricks.
"Oh no..." She took a step back from the child. Her eyes swiftly shifted over to her car. "I have to get out of here!" She exclaimed, as she immediately booked it for her vehicle. Praying to god that Vanny hadn't been listening in on her.
God was not with her that day.
She was half-way to her car when a familiar voice rang in her head. 'Vanessa~' And just like that, she was forced in place when a wave of pain washed over her head. Forcing her to clinch her head in a vain attempt to stop it. It was swiftly followed by a dark giggle that only she could hear. 'Going somewhere, Vanessa~' Vanny asked teasingly, and a cold sensation swelled up within the blonde's stomach.
"Vanny - no!" She exclaimed, cringing as she clinched her head with one hand and tried to resist what might be Vanny's attempt to take over. "Please leave this one be! He hasn't done anything to us!" She tried to plead but knew it would ultimately be for naught.
She had made the mistake of pursuing her curiosity. And now another innocent young life was about to be claimed by the murderous ego that she shared a body with. And try as she might, she knew she could never resist Vanny's control for long. She could only hope that Vanny would make it quick, and spare him the suffering she had inflicted upon her prior victims.
However, to her surprise, she felt the pain in her mind ease up to the point that it was no longer there. And that she was still in control of her own flesh when she had been totally expecting Vanny to rip control away from her.
'Now, now, Vanessa. Don't go jumping to conclusions like that!' Vanny chided. She could easily see her alter ego wagging her finger at her in a naughty-naughty fashion. 'I'm not going to hurt him.' She promised.
"You mean like you promised all your other victims?" Vanessa argued back, knowing full well that Vanny was about as trustworthy with a child as a living fireball was in a fireworks factory.
'Oh come on now, Vanessa. Don't be like that.' Vanny said though Vanessa could hear her snickering faintly. 'When have I ever lied to you before?' She chided, letting out an "Mm" afterwords.
Vanessa wanted to argue back, but couldn't find herself able to do so. For she knew that in the end, what she thought didn't matter. Vanny would always have her way. And combined with her lack of energy at the moment, she realized it would be a fruitless attempt anyway. So wordlessly, she simply stood there waiting for whatever it was that Vanny wanted from her.
'Good girl. Your learning.' Vanny praised, her tone not unlike a parent praising a child. Much to Vanessa's annoyance. 'Now then. Go and wake him up.' She instructed, much to Vanessa's confusion.
"What?" Vanessa said, as though she hadn't heard her right. She had half-expected Vanny to have taken control by now. But instead, she was merely giving her orders.
'You heard me. Go wake him up.' She repeated, this time, a little bit more impatient. 'Wake him up and make chit-chat with him.' She added.
"But why..." Vanessa began, only for her words to die on her lips with Vanny's next words.
'Just do it or else.' Vanny threatened in a sickly-sweet voice, as Vanessa then felt herself cringing in pain as she clinched her head. Which felt like a hundred or so bees had decided to land on her skull, and sting her all at once.
"Fine! Fine! I'll wake him up!" Vanessa hissed, earning a happy "Good!" from Vanny as she felt the pain go away. Swearing to herself under her breath, Vanessa made her way back towards the alley where she had found the boy sleeping. Kneeling down, she reached over and gently began to shake him. "Little boy. Little boy. Wake up there, little boy." She whispered in as gentle of a voice as she could.
At first, he didn't respond. Merely letting out a groan here or there. However, with enough prodding, his eyes eventually fluttered open. And Vanessa was greeted by a pair of eyes as brown as his hair that stared at her in confusion for a few seconds, before bolting open wide in shock as he backed himself against the wall of his cardboard box. His eyes fixated on her with a look of shock.
"W-W-Who are you!?" He demanded, clearly on edge by her presence.
"Hey! Hey! Easy there!" Vanessa said, holding up her hands to forestall any running attempts. The boy looked at her with a mixture of caution and confusion. His gaze fixated on her as if he was expecting her to cause him harm. He flinched as she reached into her back pocket, and pulled out a bar of Fazbear-branded chocolate. Having a bit of a sweet tooth, Vanessa always kept a candy bar or two on hand just in case she needed to quell a quick craving or two. "Hungry?" She asked, offering it to him. When he didn't reach out for it, she sat it on the ground in front of him and scooted it closer. "Go on. It's good." She promised.
The boy continued to eye her with suspicion. His gaze then shifted down to the chocolate bar. He looked back and forth between her and the item for a moment before he carefully licked up the bar and unwrapped it. He took a sniff of it before he bit into it and tore off a small chunk. Slowly chewing it in a way that made Vanessa think that he was expecting it to be poisoned. When he swallowed it, he paused for a second before he then proceeded to devour the rest.
The sight of which was cute enough that Vanessa managed to bring herself to smile. "Good huh?" She asked as he swallowed his mouth full. He nodded but said nothing else. "So little man. What's your name?" She asked him.
He didn't answer her. Only continuing to stare at her with a look of distrust. Vanessa wanted to take that as a cue for her to leave him alone, but she knew Vanny would only push her back. So she went pushed forth.
"My name's Vanessa Anderson." She told him with as much of a smile as she could muster. "Now that I've told you my name, care to extend the same curtsey?" She asked, tilting her to the side and letting out a small "Mm?".
He didn't answer immediately. His eyes fixated on her like a cornered mouse on a cat. "...Why do you wanna know?" He demanded in a weary voice.
"It's usually polite to give someone their name when it's been asked." She told him.
"..." He bite his lower lip as he looked at her for a bit before finally answering. "Gregory." He said.
"Gregory...?" She said, gesturing for him to continue.
"I don't have a last name." He told her in a pointed tone.
"Why not?" Vanessa inquired.
"I just don't, okay?" He said, sounding a little snappy with her.
'Ah. We're dealing with that kinda attitude.' Vanessa noted. Though judging from his circumstances, she couldn't blame him. Instead of berating him, she managed to keep herself composed as she spoke. "Easy there, kiddo. I'm not here to cause you any harm." She told him.
"Then what do you want?" He demanded, glaring at her.
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay." She answered. "Look. I get the feeling you are not exactly the trusting type. And I can certainly see why," She said, taking note of his attire, how dirty he was, and his current "home". But I can assure you that I'm not here to harm you." She assured.
"Like I haven't heard that one before." He snorted dismissively at her, causing her to yet again groan.
'Ugh. I do not need to be dealing with this right now.' She thought to herself. As she then honed in on her connection with Vanny. 'So I've woke him up and talked to him. Anything else you want, your majesty?' She asked sarcastically.
To her surprise, Vanny did not retaliate for her smart mouth. Vanessa guessed that she didn't wanna tip off the kid that there was something wrong with her.
'Take him with us.' Vanny instructed, much to Vanessa's shock.
'I'm sorry...What?' Vanessa demanded, as though she hadn't heard her counterpart right.
'I said, i want you to take him home with us.' Vanny answered.
'What for...?' Vanessa asked, though she had a good hunch why.
'Oh...let's just say that it will be a surprise.' Vanny answered, giggling deviously.
Vanessa didn't like the way Vanny was giggling. However, she bit back a smart retort to focus her attention on Gregory. Who was currently still backed up against the box, and readying himself just in case Vanessa tried something. Which only made the security guard inwardly groan.
'Great. Have to take home a distrustful runaway with odds. Joy.' She thought, as she took in a deep breath, and put on her best smile. "Gregory...would you like to come home with me?" She offered.
(A Little While Later)
It had taken a bit of convincing, but Gregory had eventually agreed to allow her to bring him with her. Though she wasn't exactly sure what had motivated him to come with her. If Vanessa had to guess, it was only because he wasn't in the mood to fight with her. And perhaps she figured he might be expecting to get a decent meal out of it. She wasn't sure. Though she did notice that he seemed to be on edge the whole way through.
Regardless of the reasoning, the two rode back to Vanessa's apartment in total silence. Gregory was sitting in the back seat of the car not saying a word. Only staring up at Vanessa through the rear view mirror as the blonde kept her gaze firmly on the road ahead.
All the while she contemplated what Vanny had in store for their new little "friend".
Vanessa had no idea what her alter ego had in store for the boy. Only that whatever it was, it was not going to be good by any stretch of the imagination. At the time, she thought that this was going to be a bit of a long game for her. Have her worm her way into his trust with some food, a friendly smile, and a place to stay. And then, when his guard was down, offer him up a spiked dream of something warm that would render him sleepy. That way, she could tie him down, and wait until he woke up before she had her fun with him. The despair of the betrayal he would no doubt experience making it all the more thrilling for the serial killer rabbit.
If only she could have guessed what her true intentions were. If she had, she would have fought back a lot harder. She would have tried to drive Gregory away before slamming on the gas pedal, and flooring it into the nearest wall with every intention of letting herself get shot out the window and letter her head get splattered.
Sadly, that time would come and go that day. And what transpired on it would forever scar Vanessa.
The two soon arrived in the parking lot outside Vanessa's apartment. The two got out, and the blonde guard lead her new little companion up to her room. Upon arriving, Vanessa unlocked the door and allowed Gregory to go ahead of her.
"Go on it." She insisted, and he did so as Vanessa swiftly followed. "Apologizes if it's not exactly a five-star hotel. Fazbear doesn't exactly pay enough for me to be living a life of luxury." She joked as she took off her shoes.
Vanessa's apartment was little more than a four-roomed shoe box comprised of a joint kitchen and living room with some furniture and a spare closet in the case of the latter, a bedroom that had a medium-sized bed with a computer desk, and a bathroom. The living room featured an entertainment system with a TV and a couple of consoles hooked up with some video games next to them. Which she noticed Gregory was staring at. The floor was made of hard brown wood, and save for her own personal bedroom (which featured bright pink walls that she had painted herself), most of her apartment's walls were stark white in color.
Still, to a homeless one like Gregory, it must have been a mark of improvement. And she found him looking around the place curiously.
"It's nice." He remarked, looking about.
"I'm glad to have your approval." She chuckled, as she sat her hat down on her little hat rack next to the door. She did feel a small ping of sadness, though. She rarely visited her apartment anymore. Her makeshift room at the Pizzaplex was where she pretty much lived anymore. She only rarely came home, and even then, it was only mostly for appearance's sake. It was a way to divert attention from nosy neighbors and co-workers. "So. Are you hungry? I imagine you haven't had much to eat." She offered him. And was answered by his roaring stomach. Which made him blush and scowl, as Vanessa chuckled. "Though so. I don't have much. But I should be able to fix you up something decent. Got anything you like?" She offered.
"Anything will be fine," Gregory told her.
Nodding, Vanessa continued. "Alright. Let me go get change real quick, and then I'll make you some lunch. In the meanwhile, feel free to watch some TV. I don't get many channels, but you should find something you like." She offered.
He nodded, as Vanessa then retreated into her room. A while later, she came back out to find Gregory on the sofa as he idly flipped through some channels.
"Find anything you like?" Vanessa asked as she was now dressed in a white tank top and a pair of purple pants with yellow rabbits printed all over them.
"Not yet." He answered, as he then took a quick glance over to her. "You have a thing for rabbits?" He questioned, eying up her attire.
Vanessa fidgeted for a moment before answering. "I love rabbits." She answered though it was kind of a lie. She used to like rabbits quite a bit. Though thanks to Glitchtrap and Vanny, that love had melted away. Much to her own heartbreak, as the fuzzy little critters didn't deserve such scorn. "I use to have one as a kid. Mr. Footsie. He was a sweet little thing." She said.
"What happened to him?" Gregory asked, causing her to sigh.
"He died. Old age having claimed him when I was fifteen." Vanessa answered sadly. "He hadn't been doing well for a while. And I was there when he took his last breaths as he died in my lap." She added, wincing at the memory.
'Daw. Poor Mr. Footsie.' She heard Vanny cry out, much to her annoyance. She was the last person she wanted sympathy from. And in part, blamed her for the memory suddenly surging forth from her mind to remind her of her childhood pet.
Gregory also looked at her sympathetically. "I'm sorry." He said in a low voice.
Vanessa shook her head. "It's fine. It happened a long time ago." She told him, though she did smile at his words. "What about you? Got any pets of your own?" She asked, to which, he just raised his brow. "I see. Well then. I'll get started on that meal I promised." She said, making her way to the kitchen.
Gregory only nodded, as he then turned his head back to the TV. As Vanessa made her way to the stove, she began to hear what sounded like Glamrock Superstars coming from the TV. It was a fairly popular space-themed cartoon based on the Glamrock Animatronics. As Gregory watched his show, Vanessa got to work preparing a meal of boxed macaroni and cheese. First boiling the water, then add the noodles to get them nice and tendered. All before adding the milk, butter, and packaged cheese mix before stirring.
As she worked on the meal, she contemplated what her counterpart's angle could be.
A part of her had wondered if the whole promised meal thing was a part of Vanny's attempt to kill the lad. Either by going back to the drug idea or by spiking his meal with something venomous and watching him choke on his own blood. However, as she went about prepping the meal, she did not feel the need to add anything other than what it was made with. Not even some extra spices for a mean-spirited prank. Which only further unnerved her as to what angle Vanny was trying to play at.
When Vanessa was finished, she called out to him. "Gregory! Your meal is ready!" She told him. Gregory immediately got off the sofa and made his way to the kitchen. Where he found Vanessa setting down a plate full of macaroni and cheese for him on the table along with a spoon. "Here. You can have it all. I'm not very hungry." She told him.
Gregory wasted no time getting seated, and immediately chowing down on it as he shoveled food from the plate in. Vanessa watched him with a little bit of a smile on her face. The way he scarfed down his meal reminded her of a hungry bear cub shoving scraps of food into its mouth. And she found the scene utterly adorable. Though it also made her feel more than a bit sad.
'Poor thing. His probably gone without a proper meal in quite some time.' She thought. "So. Gregory. Might I ask what you were doing sleeping in that box?" Vanessa inquired.
"i was sleeping." He answered, with a deadpanned expression and a snarky tone.
'Great. Still with the attitude.' Vanessa noted though a part of her couldn't exactly blame him. "No, I mean. Why were you sleeping in a cardboard box in an alley? That's not exactly a comfortable place for a young boy to be sleeping." She told him.
"It's good enough." He shrugged, before taking another bite.
Vanessa was getting a little annoyed at him. "Come on, kid. I'm just trying to be nice! Don't tell me you wouldn't rather be sleeping in your own warm bed than in a back alley box!" She snapped at him. She hadn't meant to, but the lack of sleep combined with the stress of whatever it was Vanny was planning was starting to sour her mood.
Her words caused Gregory to pause as he was about to shove another spoon full of mac and cheese into his mouth. He slowly lowered his spoon as his gaze shifted to the ground. And Vanessa felt a pang of guilt. Whatever she had said had clearly upset him.
'Way to go, Nessie. Take your anger out on a poor kid like that. And you call Vanny horrible.' She mentally scolded herself.
'You said it. Not me.' Her alter ego giggled, as Vanessa let out a soft groan.
'Shut up!' She snapped at her alter ego before focusing on Gregory who was still looking down at the ground. "I'm sorry, Gregory. I didn't mean to snap at you like that. It's just I've been a long night, and-" She started to say, only to be cut off by Gregory's next sentence.
"I don't have one." He admitted sadly, causing Vanessa to pause as she took in what he had just said.
"Don't have a what?" She asked him, though she knew it was a stupid question. She could already tell from his looks what it was going to be. And sure enough, he didn't disappoint.
"A home." He clarified, much to Vanessa's increasing horror.
"You don't?" Vanessa questioned, causing him to shake his head.
"Though it would have been obvious from where you found me." He said, half-smiling as though he thought what he said was funny. Vanessa, however, just stared at him. An awful feeling swelled up in her stomach over the fact that her suspicions about him were starting to come true.
"That's not something you should be making light of." She said, half-scolding him. He shrugged before he continued to eat. "Don't you have anyone? Parents?" He shook his head. "Friends?" Again, he shook his head. "Well then, do you at least have a place you can go to like an orphan-"
"NO!" Vanessa nearly had a heart attack as Gregory bolted up from his seat to yell at her in a fit of panic. "I won't go back to that bitch's hellhole! Please don't send me back!" He begged. Vanessa saw that tears were threatening to pour from his eyes.
Vanessa could only stare at him in shock. She had not been expecting that sorta reaction from him. And the way he was begging, made it seem as though she was going to tell him he had just gotten the death sentence and he was pleading for his very life.
She raised her hand to signal him to calm down. "Okay, okay. Calm down there, Gregory," She said, making her voice as soft as possible. "No one is going to send you back to whomever it is your speaking of." She told him.
He looked at her suspiciously. "You...You promise?" He demanded, clearly still on edge.
"Cross my heart," Vanessa promised as she made a cross over her heart. Though admittedly, she felt ashamed of herself for saying that considering all that she has done.
Gregory didn't seem to buy it, but it did cause him to relax a little as he sat back down. "Thank you." He whispered in a grateful voice that made Vanessa smile. As he then rubbed his eyes on his wrist to wipe away the tears.
Still, though. That reaction had been pretty extreme. And had made Vanessa's curiosity peep as to what could have caused it.
"Judging from that reaction, you were at least a part of one though." She quickly deduced. Gregory looked up at here and gave a confirming nod. "If you don't mind me asking, why don't you wanna go back?" She asked him. When he didn't answer, she continued. "Is there something, or someone you don't-"
"Greta." He interrupted her, causing her to blink.
"Greta?" Vanessa parroted, with a raised eyebrow. "Greta who?" She asked.
"Greta Huffington. The lady who owns the orphanage I stayed at." He told her. "She's absolutely horrible despite how she presents herself." He said.
That was when something clicked in Vanessa's mind. "Wait. You're not talking about Greta Huffington who runs Ms. Huffington's Home for the Lost are you?" She asked. "The one that most people call "Greta the Kind"?" She pointed out.
Gregory let out an angry huff and glared at her. "More like Greta the Absolute Bitch!" He hissed through gritting teeth. Clearly getting angry at the mere mention of her.
Again, Vanessa raised her hand to try and still him. "Whoa. Easy there, kiddo. No need to go on the warpath." She gently chided, hoping to calm him down. It seemed to do the trick, as he simmer down a little. 'Okay. Apparently, Greta might not be the kindly matron she's known as.' Vanessa thought.
Greta Huffington was the owner of an orphanage just on the outside of town. Ms. Huffington's Home for the Lost and the Wayward. Which also doubled as a shelter for lost children separated from their parents, as well as runaways. It was a place that had been donated to by Fazbear Entertain's charities in the past. And those who knew its caretaker said that she was a kind and gentle figure. Almost like a dotting grandmother in a way. With even the children speaking her unanimous praise. However, judging from Gregory's reaction, there was a lot more to her than met the eye. And none of it was good.
'Just like me.' Vanessa thought bitterly as she bit her teeth. 'Though something tells me she doesn't have a deadbeat roommate living in her head that makes her act that way.' She thought.
'Hey! I am not a deadbeat!' Vanny whined at her.
Vanessa chose to ignore her as she continued her conversation with Gregory. "Gregory. What has Greta done to make you so angry with her?" She asked in a serious voice.
"Why do you care?" He demanded.
Vanessa sighed as she rubbed her temples. This was not a good time for her to be dealing with a bratty, mistrusting little kid from the streets. Still, she would soldier on through. Though a part of her knew she would be feeling scummy pretty soon.
"Look, kiddo. I get it," She began in a firm tone. "No really. I do. You've had a hard life. Probably dealt with a lot of people who took advantage of you or the like. But not everyone is out to get you or use you. Some people actually want to help you." She told him. "I know that's hard to accept, and that can be difficult to tell who's who, but they do exist. And I'm trying to be one of them for you." She assured.
Yup. She felt absolutely dirty saying that. And knew that no amount of bathing or scrubbing would ever make her feel clean after telling something like that to him after all she had done in the past.
As for Gregory, he seemed to be actually contemplating her words. And that had gotten Vanessa thinking. Despite how guarded and snippy he was, she could see a certain...yearning in his eyes. Almost like he wanted to believe her. This lead her to believe that despite how guarded and snippy he seemed to be, Gregory yearned for affection. For someone to actually give a damn about him. Whatever it was, it only made what she had said to him just a second ago feel like that much more of a lie. Like here he was, actually looking like he was trying to trust her, and she was lying to his face to manipulate him.
And throughout it all, she could feel Vanny listening in on the conversation with a deeply vested interest. Which only made Vanessa even more on edge regarding whatever it was her evil counterpart's plan could be.
Gregory then took another bite of his mac and cheese and swallowed before he started speaking again. "She...hurts us..." He answered, shaking. "She forces us to do her dirty work. Makes us do all the cooking and cleaning while she sits around all day yelling at us. And she punishes us when we don't do what she wants, or if she feels like we didn't do a good enough job." He explained.
"What...kind of punishments?" Vanessa asked, having a gut feeling she wasn't going to like the answer.
And she didn't.
"Beatings...and worst..." He shuttered. The look of pure terror in his eyes said all that needed to be said on the subject matter. As Vanessa felt herself becoming sick in the stomach with what he was implying. "And even then, some time's she makes...demands of us." He added, making Vanessa want to turn green and hurl the contents of her stomach.
"Jesus Christ, kid." She whispered, trying not to throw up. She had a pretty good idea what Gregory was getting at, and it was making her nauseous. And grateful that despite everything, the furthest that Vanny had ever gone with their victims was simply killing them.
"I was also her most frequent target," Gregory continued. "She would...sometimes make me the example. Single me out so that the others could vent their frustrations. Or make me...make me...massage her!" He exclaimed, letting out a cold shutter as the memories came flooding back to him.
The further he went, the sicker Vanessa felt. 'Fuck me! What the hell is wrong with this woman!?' She thought as she felt her temper spike. Now having half a mind to pay Greta a visit and give her a piece of her mind. 'What kind of person would do something like this to a child!?' She mentally screamed.
'Well there's-' She heard her counterpart start to say, only to cut her off mid-sentence.
'Don't you start, Vanny! And don't you even think about getting ideas from all of this!' She said pointedly. Knowing that it would be a cold day in hell before she ever would allow Vanny to perform those kinds of deeds. She then turned her attention back to Gregory. "Why haven't you gone to the police?" She asked him.
"Because they'd never believe me." Gregory scowled bitterly. "Because it's the word of a publicly recognized golden grandmother who runs a successful orphanage against the word of a runaway. Because in the end, even if they were willing to believe me, I know they'd find nothing on her. And that all I would get is sent back to that hellhole." He said.
Vanessa could feel her heart sink further and further with each word he said. Clearly, the experiences he suffered at the orphanage and on the street had left him bitter, and mistrusting. Least of all of the adults. It had been no wonder he had been such a little brat. Those experiences had scarred him, and doubly for life.
Vanessa could only stare at him, unable to say for a brief period as she watched Gregory eat. Scarfing down his food like a hungry animal. She eventually managed to bring herself to ask something that had been nagging at her the entire time: "How long?"
"How long what?" Gregory asked, in between bites of his meal.
"How long have you been surviving on your own?" Vanessa answered.
He took a moment to think. "I think it will be about a year now." He stated, which made Vanessa frown.
"And how old are you?" Vanessa asked.
"Eleven." He answered back.
Vanessa's jaw dropped. "You've been surviving on the streets, by yourself, and sleeping in a cardboard box for over a year!?" She exclaimed in disbelief.
"Pretty much." He answered, seemingly apathetic to his own statement. Leaving Vanessa horrified by the implications at the causal way he dismissed his situation.
However, before she could ask further, that was when Vanny decided to chime in on the conversation with her own two cents.
'Mmm. Interesting. No friends. Now family. Not even a home. And a runaway from an abusive orphanage ran by a pervy old hag.' She heard her alter ego's voice say, before breaking out into a devious giggle. 'My, my. We certainly found ourselves an interesting little stray haven't we, Vanessa?' Vanny asked while giggling.
'I guess you could say that.' Vanessa remarked though she didn't think that "interesting" was a good word to describe him. Abused, guarded, heartbroken, and snippy were more accurate terms for him in her mind.
'Still though. Whoever thought that such a random lad as this would have this fascinating of a tale? Very interesting.' Vanny mused, giggling the whole way through.
'What are you up to, Vanny?' Vanessa questioned her counterpart. She knew she was up to something, she just wish she could figure out what. As Vanny had a much stronger guard on her mental facilities than Vanessa had on hers. Making trying to figure out what she was thinking at any given moment a headache in and of itself.
Vanny's answer was short and to the point. 'Let me take over. I wanna talk with our new little friend.' She insisted.
Vanessa flinched at Vanny's request. 'I'm sorry...what?' She said back, not sure she had heard her right.
'I said I wanna talk to Gregory. So move over, and let me have control.' Vanny said back, as Vanessa could feel her threatening to try and take control of their body.
Vanessa then felt herself starting to sweat, before she looked over at Gregory. "Gregory? Could you excuse me for a moment?" She asked. When he shrugged, Vanessa immediately got up and ran to the bathroom as fast as she could. She slammed the door (which startled Gregory a little), and made sure to lock it as well. Taking in a deep breath, she forced herself to become composed as she then walked straight towards her bathroom sink. Which had a mirror hanging over it.
Peering into it, she saw herself. A near-perfect copy save, for the sickly purple eyes, and a manic smile that her mirror counterpart sported.
'Aw. Vanessa. Why'd you go and run away like that? I just wanted to talk to him.' Vanny said, though the giggling tone she had implied something else.
"Why are you so interested in him anyway?" Vanessa demanded, making sure not to speak loud enough that she caught Gregory's attention.
'Oh, come on, Vanessa. I just wanna talk to him. He's just so cute~!' Vanny pleaded with a coo in her voice.
"Don't bullshit me, Vanny. You're planning something, and I know it!" She accused, causing Vanny to let out a gasp and a "Who? Me?" expression. Vanessa just rolled her eyes at her antics before continuing. "You wouldn't have had me bring him here if you were just planning on killing him, would you? Too much of a risk of being seen and questioned over. So just spit it out already!" She demanded.
Vanny took a moment to answer as she tilted her head to the side and let out a hum. 'Mmm...call him a hunch if you will.' Vanny answered back.
"A "hunch"?" Vanessa repeated, in a scrutinizing tone.
'Yes. A hunch.' Vanny's reflection nodded. When she saw Vanessa giving her a suspicious look, she continued. 'You wouldn't happen to remember all those weird little hiding holes that the day team found throughout the Pizzaplex, would you?' She asked.
That got Vanessa's attention. Earlier in the week she had heard some murmurings about something the day team security had found throughout the building. Places that looked like makeshift dwells were found in locations none of the adults could reach. In them, they found blankets and piles of discarded food. And even a few items that had been taken from the Lost and Found. This had led the security team to believe they had had an intruder in the complex. However, despite a week's worth of searching, they never found whomever it had been.
"Yeah. What about them?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. Wondering where Vanny was going to go with this train of thought.
'Well, do you also remember the name that kept popping up on the leaderboards in the arcade machines?' Vanny inquired further.
"Someone who kept calling himself GGY." Vanessa answered before a sudden realization hit her. "Wait a minute. You don't mean to say...?"
Vanny smiled as she saw Vanessa catch on to what she was implying. 'Perhaps our little mysterious invader and our top gamer are one in the same. And that we should call our top player as "Gre-Gor-rY".' She put forth.
Vanessa could only tilt her head in confusion at her reflection. "You're saying that Gregory is the one who's been breaking into the complex?" She questioned, earning a nod.
'Like I said, call it a hunch.' Vanny answered, though, from her tone, it sounded more like certainty.
"Okay. Let's say that all that's true," Vanessa began hesitantly, as she knew she wasn't going to like anything Vanny was going to answer with. "What does that have to do with me bringing him here and feeding him? Are you planning on turning him in or something?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. While also thought to herself how funny it would be for a body-possessing child killer to try and claim some kind of moral high ground against a kid of all people. Let alone on who, if Vanessa had to guess his motives, was just looking for a place to stay that wasn't on the street.
It earned her a mental kick from Vanny for her troubles. 'Now, now, Vanessa. Didn't you hear what I just said about jumping to conclusions?' Vanny asked in a teasing tone, smiling as she watched Vanessa reel in pain for her little assault. As she watched her counterpart rub her head in pain, she continued. 'Like I said. I just wanna talk to little Gregory is all. I have no intention of turning him over or anything like that.' She stated plainly, as Vanessa then felt the earlier stinging sensation from before starting to flood over her. 'Now then. Let. Me. Talk. To. Him.' She instructed, in a voice that was as sweet as venom, and promised just as much pain.
Vanessa knew that she wouldn't be able to resist Vanny. Or at the very least, resist her for very long. In the past, she had tried to fight off Vanny's influence. But in the end, the white rabbit killer always won. And she knew that this would be no exception. And so, with a great amount of reluctance, she surrendered control of herself to Vanny. Hoping to god that her alter ego wouldn't do anything to harm Gregory, or would at the very least, make whatever death she had in store for him swift and painless.
If only she had known. If only she had known...
No sooner had Vanessa had given her to go-ahead, did she feel her body's control wrestled away from her in an instant. Her conscious self shoved into the furthest back of her mind as she was then reduced to being nothing but a spectator in her own body. At the same time, Vanessa's eyes briefly flashed between her usual bright green and a sickly shade of purple before settling back into the former.
As the now in control Vanny smiled deviously as she turned towards the door. "Time to say hi." She whispered, giggling.
Vanny then emerged from the bathroom to find Gregory on the sofa. Tossing a glance over to the table, she saw he had finished up his meal (the empty plate left on the dinner table) and had gone back to watching Glamrock from Planet Ten. Smiling, she walked up to him and gently laid a hand on his shoulder. Nearly making him jump as he turned to look at her.
"Jesus you scared the crap outta me!" He exclaimed, clenching his chest while trying to catch his breath.
"Sorry, Gregory. Couldn't help myself." Vanny apologized in a faux-innocent tone as she let out a giggle.
Gregory took in a deep breath before he continued. "Right. Whatever. Anyway, is there something you need?" He asked, in an annoyed voice.
Vanny smiled as she continued. "Well, Gregory. I was wondering something. Do you like to play games?" She asked, tilting her head to the side cutely.
Gregory raised his brow at her. "That depends. What kind of games are you talking about?" He asked, sounding a little curious as to what she was getting at.
"Well, there's board games, tabletop games, card games, and such." Vanny listed off before smiling. "But I was thinking more along the lines of video games of course!" She exclaimed.
Gregory just looked at her like she had grown a second head. "Ugh...Yeah. Of course, I do! Who doesn't like playing video games?" He answered as though it was the most obvious statement in the world.
"Well then. What kind of video games do you like to play?" Vanny questioned, gesturing to the entertainment system. "I own a small library. Nothing too extravagant. But if you'd like, we could find a game or two for us to play. it's been a while since I had someone to play with." She offered.
Gregory was surprised by her offer but didn't seem to reject it. "Sure. And to answer your previous question, I like to play first-person shooters and the like." He told her.
Now that got Vanny's attention. "Is that so?" She asked, pushing her lips together in a thoughtful expression. "Tell me something, Gregory. How have you even been able to play any video games?" She asked in an oh-so-innocent voice.
One that caused him to fidget. "Uh...what do you mean?" He asked her, doing his best to hide the nervousness in his voice. Though Vanny was still able to pick up on it.
"I mean...You seemed to have pretty much confirmed what I thought earlier. That you're homeless," She stated, earning a grumbled "Thanks for the reminder" before continuing. "And last I checked, most homeless people would be lucky enough to own a handle held. Let alone a full console. So I'm wondering how you would have any preferences towards video games." She mused, watching as Gregory fidgeted in his seat with some amusement. "But then again, I don't know many homeless people in general. So what would I know?" She said half-jokingly.
"Right..." Gregory said nervously, though he found himself rolling his eyes at her joke. "Well, to answer your question, I sometimes go into a mall or a video game store or the like. And they usually have a game you can play already set up." He explained as Vanny listened with keen interest. "Other times, if I had enough coins saved up from scavenging and the like, I would try my luck with arcade machines-"
"Like those at the Pizzaplex?" Vanny interjected, taking that moment to intervene with the winning question. She mentally giggled at the way he froze up, and his face went several shades of white at once. "Oh my. Judging from that reaction, I guess that means I'm correct. Is that right, Mr. GGY?" She added in a teasing voice.
"I...I..." Gregory stammered as he felt a surge of panic starting to wash over him. And Vanny could tell she had cornered him into admitting something she had been suspecting all along. That they had found their little intruder, and he was right there before her. In her own apartment, and with nowhere to escape to. Leaving him to curse at himself for having agreed to come with the women. Knowing full well he should have ran when he realized her attire was that of a security guard. And now he was going to get busted for breaking and entertaining, and most likely either be shipped off back to Greta's orphanage or to juvie.
But then, to his surprise, however, he felt Vanny's hand gently grip his shoulder. Look at her, he saw her sporting a soft smile. "It's okay, Gregory. I'm not going to rat you out." She promised him, causing him to look at her in disbelief.
"Y-Your not?" He squeaked out.
"No." She shook her head. "I may be a security guard, but I'm not heartless enough to betray the trust of someone in need." She promised.
In her mind, Vanessa snorted. 'Now there's an ironic statement.' She snarked, but Vanny just rolled her eyes and chose to ignore her. Gregory, however, didn't seem to buy her words. But guessing that he realized he didn't have any choice, he nodded.
"O-Okay. And thank you." Gregory said, feeling a little uneasy at the moment. For some reason, he could sense a sudden change in Vanessa. Just something about her seemed...a little off from earlier. But for the moment, he would focus on answering her. "To answer your question, Vanessa...yes. I have been sneaking into the Pizzaplex on occasion." He admitted with a sigh as he looked away. He knew that he shouldn't be telling her that, but after she had already figured him out, what was the point in hiding it? "I know I shouldn't have, but I just...wanted a warm place to sleep, you know? A place that wasn't on the street. A place that was warm, and where I could get some decent foot that wasn't picked out of a garbage bin."
Vanny nodded sympathetically. "I see. Well. I can't exactly condone your actions, but I can certainly understand your reasoning." She told him. "Gotta say, though. You must be one hell of an escape artist if you've been able to avoid security up until this point." She praised.
Gregory only snorted. "Your security team sucks ass, no offense." He told him, as deep within their shared consciousness, Vanessa found herself agreeing with Gregory. Vanny apparently did as well, as she let out a half-snorting laugh.
"Your telling me. Those fools couldn't find their way outta a wet paper bag with scissors," She scoffed, causing Gregory to giggle a little bit. "Often times I wonder where Fazbear manages to find these idiots. Or if they just pick them up so they can have the excuse to fire them and replace them with more STAFF bots." She said in an annoyed voice.
Though in actuality, she was grateful. That just made writing up reports to get them fired and replaced with STAFF bots all that easier.
"Then why even hire them if they're so bad at their job?" Gregory asked, confused.
"Because Fazbear's lazy and is known for cutting corners. That's why." Vanny answered, shaking her head. "But enough about that. I think I've stressed you out enough for the moment," She noted, taking a small sick about of pleasure in the way Gregory has been squirming. "I promised you that we'd play a game and we will. Would you like to play an extra special video game?" She suggested, tilting her head and letting out a cute "Hm?".
Within their sharded subconscious, Vanessa could feel her heart start to skip a beat. She did not like the way Vanny had said that.
"That depends. What kind of game is it?" In response to his question, Vanny's lips broke out into a huge grin as she leaned down towards him and asked a single sentence that made Vanessa's blood run cold as ice and haunt her nightmares from there on-end.
"How do you feel about AR?" She proposed, as within her mind, Vanessa's voice gasped in horror.
'Oh no!'
(A Short While Later)
It hadn't taken much to convince Gregory to go along with her suggestion. The boy had never played an AR game before and admitted to being curious about the experience. On top of it all, learning that it was a game that had not been released to the public, had only made him more excited and eager to play.
Which was good news for Vanny. That mean that the process behind it all was going as smoothly as humanly possible. The only minor annoyance was the constant headache she was having to endure as Vanessa struggled to regain control of their body. Resulting in a continuous stream of headaches that she so did not need to be dealing with right now.
'Nononononono! Like hell, I'm going to allow you to do this!' She could hear Vanessa yelling at her. Currently, the two were in the living room as Vanny was going through some of the stuff that Vanessa had buried in the closet there. As she eventually pulled out the AR helmet from Vanessa's beta-testing days along with a copy of the Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience. Items that Vanny had had Vanessa retrieve from the company some time ago for reasons she didn't understand at the time.
She understood right there and then why.
If Vanessa had been in control, their whole body would have been breaking out in cold sweat upon seeing the copy of The Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience Vanny had brought out. It was the same accursed AR game that head allowed Glitchtrap to corrupt her mind, and allow Vanny to come into existence. And had made her life a living hell ever since. It was bad enough that she had been forced to suffer the presence of her murderous counterpart in her mind. But now, not only was Vanny going to repeat the experience on another person, it was going to be a child as well!?
It would be a cold, cold day in hell before Vanessa allowed herself to be a proxy to that sorta thing. Gregory had already had a hard enough life as it was. He did not need to be twisted into some sort of hellish minion for the ghost of a long-dead child killer and his sociopathic minion. And that was if he was unlucky.
'Oh, will you relax already? It's not like it's going to kill him or anything.' Vanny told her. Behind her, Gregory was currently at the seat of her computer desk waiting for her to get everything set up. 'Besides. What's the harm, Nessie?' She asked.
'It will ruin him that's what!' Vanessa yelled back. 'This is what you've been wanting all along with him, wasn't it!? You wanted me to bring him here so you could expose him to that...that thing!' She accused, causing Vanny to giggle back.
'Right on the money, honey!' Vanny said in a mock-praising tone.
'But why!?' Vanessa demanded, unable to believe that Vanny was actually wanting to do this. 'Why would you want to do this to him!? I thought you and that bastard-'
'Mr. Afton.' Vanny corrected in a pointed voice, as Vanessa then felt a threatening prick on her conscious.
'...Mr. Afton,' Vanessa corrected herself, hating how timid she sounded at that moment. Though her fury came back with a vengeance. 'Were all about killing children and harvesting them for their Remnant. What so different about this one that you wanna bring him into your little cult!?' She demanded.'
Vanny took a moment to think before answering. 'Mm. Let's just say I have a special feeling about this one. Call it...my women's intuition speaking.' She answered back.
'And does your women's intuition think that Glitchtrap would even consider Gregory for his little cult!?'She questioned her.
'Master's digital alter ego has a keen eye for talent, Nessie.' Vanny retorted back.
'What talent!? All we know about him is that he can break into a mall with a half-ass security team and that his good at shooter games!' Vanessa argued back. 'That's hardly a certified resume for entry into your Master's little cult!?'
'But his also been living on the streets for, by his admission, a year!' Vanny argued back. Her tone showed she was becoming frustrated with Vanessa. 'A normal ten-year-old wouldn't have been able to survive on their own for that amount of time. His got some skills outside of his video gaming and breaking and entering. He just needs a little bit of guidance to bring 'em all out is all.' She remarked.
'He needs your guidance like a dog needs fleas!' Vanessa snarled venomously. 'Besides. What makes you think that Glitchtrap would even be remotely interested in some random kid that just happens to be playing his game!?' She demanded.
'Oh, I'm sure that Master has brought in his fair share of oddballs and the like,' Vanny remarked, knowing full well that she and Vanessa were not the only members of the Cult of Glitchtrap. 'I doubt that Gregory would be the worst of those he probably picked up.' She added.
'And what if he kills Gregory, huh!?' Vanessa argued back. 'What makes you so sure Mr. Afton would even want him? That man's a child killer just like you! You really think he's going to take an interest in some brat from the streets for anything other than more Remnant!?' She demanded.
'Master is smart. And knows an opportunity when he sees it,' Vanny answered with confidence. 'And I know that his always open to new ideas here or there. So I'm confident that he'll see what I'm doing, and the benefits that Gregory could bring to our little circle.' She added.
'And what are you basing that deduction off of!? Wishful thinking!?' Vanessa snarked back at her.
Vanny was silent for a surprising amount of time, as Vanessa eagerly awaited whatever "good" explanation she could muster up in defense of herself.
'...Call it, a hunch.' She answered, and her words made Vanessa then start to fume.
'A hunch!? A HUNCH!? Your willing to ruin Gregory's future over a fucking HUNCH!?' Vanessa screeched at the top of her lungs. 'Like hell, I'll allow you to do this! No fucking way am I going to let you ruin Gregory's life, you son of a'
She was cut short when a wave of psychic pain struck her. For it seems that Vanny had had enough of her ranting. 'Vanessa, sweetie? I really do not need this right now. Gregory is eager for his game, and you're not going to mess this up for me. So be a good girl, and take a nap!' She instructed before she increased the psychic pain that she was inflicting upon Vanessa. 'And don't worry about Gregory. I promise that nothing bad will happy to him in the meanwhile.' She assured.
Vanessa tried to yell back and argue, but the pain was just too much. And soon, she was completely silent as Vanny felt her consciousness go unconscious. Leaving her as the one now in total control over their shared form
"Finally. Some peace in quiet." She said, rubbing her head. Happy to have been rid of that headache. Once she was able to compose herself, she made her way back to Vanessa's bedroom. Where-in she found Gregory sitting at the computer desk Vanessa had set up there waiting for her.
"Took you long enough," Gregory remarked as he sat in the chair.
"Sorry. Sleep fatigue is starting to get the better of me." She apologized as she came over to him. "Now then. Let's get this started, shall we?" She smiled, as she got everything set up for Gregory before handing him the AR helmet. "Have fun." She told him with a smile.
"Didn't you wanna play too?" He asked, taking the helmet from her.
"I would. But sadly, I forgot I only had one helmet," She told him in an apologetic tone. "That, and I'm feeling really tired. Fazbear had me up all night watching nothing, so I think I'm going to hit the hay for a while." She added.
It wasn't exactly a lie. Vanessa's body was beginning to be worn out from the lack of sleep. And combined with the energy it took to render her unconscious, Vanny herself was ready for a little shut-eye.
"Alright." He nodded before he turned back to the computer.
Before she left, however, Vanny leaned down to whisper into his ear. "Just a little something from you to me," She began, as Gregory looked back at her. "But in the game, there are some tapes that you can find scattered throughout the levels." She told him.
"So they're like collectibles?" He asked, and she nodded.
"Exactly!" She said smiling. "And if you manage to collect them all, I'll have an extra special reward for you." She promised him.
"What kind of a reward?" He asked her, with a small hint of eagerness in his voice.
She winked at him and said. "It's a secret." Before tapping him on the nose. Making him shake his head in annoyance. However, she could see in his eyes that he was taking her words as a challenge. Which was good. That meant that he would be motivated to fulfilling the requirements to bring him out.
And so, letting out a yawn, Vanny made her way to Vanessa's bed and lay down. Pulling over a large stuffed rabbit plushie she owned named Mr. Footsie (in honor of Vanessa's deceased pet) that she then snuggled with as she prepped herself for bed. Her eyes fixated on Gregory as she watched him start to play. A soft, sinister giggle escaped her lips.
'And so it begins.' She thought to herself, letting out another yawn. 'I wonder what will happen when he finishes the game. Hopefully, Master will see what I'm doing, and will give the boy some consideration.' She thought hopefully. 'And if he does, I wonder what persona will be born when Master touches his mind. I bet whatever it is, though, he'll be super cute.' She giggled.
Eventually, sleep overtook the serial killer. And before long, she was out cold for a nap.
(Sometime later that night)
When Vanessa woke up, she was groggy as hell. Vanny's little mental assault from earlier left her with a splitting headache. To her surprise, though, she found herself back in control of her body. As she fully expected to be waking up with Vanny still in the driver's seat. And so, with a groan, she forced herself to sit up as she rubbed her head. Knowing full well she'd be feeling that one for a while.
"Ugh. Jesus Christ that fucking bitch" She cursed, shaking her head. As she then concentrated on her link with her alter ego to see what she was up to. She was greeted by the sounds of her snoring, causing her to groan yet again. "Glad someone's having a peaceful night." She murmured sarcastically. She had half a mind to try and pester her to wake up, but she knew that little train of thought would only make her headache worst. So, she left her counterpart be for the time.
That was when she remembered the events from earlier.
"The AR helmet! Gregory!" She exclaimed, as she then immediately shifted her attention towards the computer chair. And found it was now empty. Save for the AR helmet now sitting in the chair.
At first, Vanessa was confused. She was certain that she would see him first thing upon waking up (hopefully, untouched by that damnable golden rabbit). However, that was when heard noises from the living room through her open doorway. From the sounds of it, it was Glamrock from Planet Ten being played on the TV. Getting up, she went to investigate. And that was where she found him sitting on the sofa in the living room. A few empty cans of soda spilled out across the coffee table in front of it as his eyes were now glued to the TV screen.
Vanessa slowly made her way up to him. A feeling of uneasiness washed over her. "Gregory...?" She called out with uncertainty in her voice. Unsure of whether or not the person in front of her was Gregory, or merely something wearing his skin.
A part of Vanessa was hopeful. That Glitchtrap had passed on the boy and chose to let him be. He was only a child, after all. And she doubt the digital avatar of an infamous child murderer would want the boy for anything other than a Remnant hit even if he was a successful mall invader. He'd pass him up as a curiosity (and potential target), and Vanny would be punished for her stupidity. Gregory would (hopefully) be allowed to escape (and hopefully alert the police or get somewhere far, far away), and she'd have something to celebrate in the form of watching Vanny get tormented by her master for a change.
Any hope she had, however, was dashed the moment he turned to face him, and she saw his face.
"Good evening, Vanny! Sleep well?" He greeted her as though he had been waiting for her all night.
If it had been physically possible, Vanessa was sure that her heart would have sunk so low, it would have fallen out of her. She stumbled back, not wanting to believe what she was seeing or hearing at the moment.
'God no! Please don't tell me...!' She gasped out in horror.
Gregory's voice was different now. Whereas before he always sounded quiet and low energy, now his voice was manic and energetic. His expression was a wide-lipped grin that reminded Vanessa of an imp. But what cemented it all were his eyes. Which were now a sickly shade of purple instead of their usual brown. And shined with a glint of evil glee. The look of which made her blood run cold. For she knew those eyes better than anyone else.
The same type of eyes that Vanny had whenever she took control of her and wanted her presence known.
And now, they were on Gregory.
The sight of it all nearly made Vanessa puke.
"Oh God no! Please god no!" Vanessa whispered as tears threatened to pour down her eyes. She found herself trembling as she stumbled backward as her hands came to her mouth.
Despite her hopes, however, the evidence was clear as day.
Vanny's attempt to convert Gregory into the Cult of Glicthtrap was a success. That abomination of digital coding had, for whatever reason, taken enough of an interest that when the opportunity presented itself, he had touched the young boy's mind, and fouled it up just as he had done with her. Only now, it was ten times as worst. Because now it was a young child robbed of his free will, and forced into enslavement by the same malevolent force that had allowed Gitchtrap to come into existence.
And judging from the way he spoke of her murderous alter ego, Vanessa could already guess that he was up-to-date on the whole thing. And the way his eyes seem to shine with that same murderous intent, made her realize that this new persona within Gregory had every intention of walking down the same dark path that her own did. And inflict the same horrors on his host as Vanny had done to him.
And that was the absolute worst part of it all.
A young boy who was robbed of his freedom.
Touched by a wicked force beyond his comprehension.
No doubt to be used in the same twisted goal that her alter ego served.
And all because she had seen him that fateful morning, and chose to investigate him instead of leaving well enough alone, and going about her merry way.
Vanessa could no longer hold back her tears. With a wail of anguish, she stumbled back and fell. Her back hit the wall behind her as she curled into a ball and buried her face into her legs as she began to weep and curse at herself for allowing this to transpire.
Meanwhile, Gregory - or rather, whatever it was that was currently using Gregory's body now- could only stare at Vanessa in confusion. He had been waiting all night for Vanny to appear before him. He had heard so much of her from the rabbit man (Glitchtrap he had introduced himself as) and was eager to meet his fellow cult mate-to-be. So he was naturally baffled when he saw whom he assumed to be Vanny break down and start crying like a baby who had its bottle stolen.
"Ugh. Hey Vanny? You who? Hey, Vanny! What's up?" "Gregory" inquired, as he tilted his head to the side as he watched her cry. When she didn't answer, he walked over to her and poked her head. "Hey, Vanny! Vanny!" At his prodding, she looked up at him with tear-stained eyes that silently glared back. At first, he was taken aback by this. But that was, however, until a slow realization hit him. "Ah. I see. You must be the other Van in there. Vanessa right?" He concluded, taking her silence as a yes before continuing. "Well, listen. I know you're in the middle of a breakdown or whatever. But would you mind saving it for later? I wanna talk to Vanny!" He demanded, putting his hands on his hips, and leaning down to be at face level with her.
Despite her tears, Vanessa was able to let out a snort. "She's asleep." She told him simply.
"Well, wake her up already! I wanna talk to her!" He insisted. "I've been wanting to meet with her all night! I wanna thank her for letting me play that fun game she showed me earlier!" He said.
"Well too bad. You can talk to her later when she wakes up." Vanessa told him. He didn't like that answer, as he began repeatedly tapping on her head to alert her other self to his presence. Annoyed, Vanessa grabbed hold of his wrist. "Stop!" She hissed, as she put a small squeeze on his wrist. Just enough to get her point across.
"Ah! Let go of me!" He demanded as he tried to pull free, though Vanessa held a firm grip.
"That depends. Are you gonna promise to not do that again?" She demanded in a firm tone of voice.
"But I wanna talk to Vanny!" He insisted through hissing words.
"Well too bad. She's asleep right now, and I'm not in my mood to have my head prodded." Vanessa told him coldly, as she applied a little bit more force to his wrist. Feeling a slight ping of guilt as she knew it was Gregory's body she was harming. "Now are you going to promise not to do that again, or do I have to start twisting?" She threatened.
"Listen you-" He started to say, only to grimace in pain as Vanessa followed through on her threat. Twisting his arm briefly in a painful manner. He seemed to realize he wasn't going to get anywhere at this moment in time. So with a frustrated sigh, he went. "Fine! Fine! I'll stop!" Though he let out an angry huff afterward. Satisfied with his answer, she let him go. And he crossed his arms and pouted at her. "Your mean Vanessa! Mean and boring! And I don't like you!" He huffed at her, as he rubbed his sore wrist.
She let out a short bark of bitter laughter at this. "And I don't think I'm going to like you very much either, kiddo." She smirked back.
"Fine! Whatever! I'll let Gregory deal with you! Wake me when Vanny comes out!" He hissed back, as he repeatedly tapped himself on the forehead. "Hey stupid! Wake up already! You can deal with this one! She's boring me!" He demanded.
In an instant, it was like "Gregory" had lost all control over the body he now inhabited (or rather, released it) as he began swaying back and forth in a dizzy stay. The sickly purple his eyes had been were now back to Gregory's original brown. And he nearly fell and hit himself on the ground, had Vanessa not managed to bring herself out of her funk enough to catch him in her arms. She looked down
"Gregory? Gregory!?" She exclaimed as she shook him gently. "Gregory please answer me!" She pleaded.
It took a moment, but eventually, life returned to his dulled eyes. "Ugh...what?" He said, shaking his head as he then looked up. "Vanessa...?" He whispered in a groggy voice.
"Gregory!" Vanessa exclaimed, murmuring a small prayer of thanks as she then cradled him in her arms. Much to his confusion. "God, Gregory! I'm so...I'm so sorry!" She whispered as more tears began pouring down her eyelids.
Gregory, however, was still confused. His head hurt, and his eyes felt as though he had been staring into the sun for too long. "Vanessa? What's going on?" He asked, looking around. "Why are you crying? Why does my head hurt so much? And...where's the AR helmet you gave me?" He added, looking around. He then winced at the sudden pain in his wrist. "And why does my arm hurt?" He said.
Flinching slightly at the mention of the accursed device, as well as feeling more than a bit guilty over having caused him physical harm, Vanessa pulled away from him. Her eyes were red, and still full of tears. But she managed to compose herself for what she had to say.
"Gregory. What was the last thing you remember?" She asked him. "Please. I want you to tell me everything that you remember." She instructed.
Gregory blinked a few times and was then silent for a few seconds as he did his best to recall what had transpired from his blackout. "I remember...playing the AR game you had given me," He said. "I remember going about it, trying to collect all the tapes just as you instructed before I bet the game." He said.
Vanessa took in a deep breath. "And did you?" She asked. When he nodded, she continued. "How did it end?"She asked him.
Gregory reached up and began rubbing the back of his head. Trying to recall. "Well...I remember following the instructions of the girl on the tape that said," He began. "That to stop him, I had to let him out and let him become one with me. And then..." He trailed off briefly. "And then the last thing I remember...was seeing myself behind what looked like a vault door. One with a window. And that there had been a weird rabbit man on the other side." He said. The mention of Gltichtrap made Vanessa's blood run cold.
"Was it a golden rabbit with a purple bow tie?" She questioned, despite knowing the answer.
"Yeah. Yeah, it was," Gregory answered. "I remember watching him slink off from behind the vault door, and then...I guess I must have blacked out." He said as he looked up at her. "But...why am I in the living room? And why does my head hurt, and my eyes feel like someone tried to bake them?" He questioned.
There it all was. All the confirmation she needed to remove any doubt in her mind as to what transpired. And Vanessa felt like throwing up at it all. However, she knew that she had to steel herself for what was to come.
"Gregory..." She began, as her hands gently grasp hold of his shoulders. "I know that what I'm about to say is going to sound insane, but I need you to listen, and I need you to believe me." She said firmly, looking him dead serious in the eyes. He gave her a look of nervous confusion but nodded nevertheless. Taking in a deep breath, she began to explain. "The person you were talking to earlier. The one that gave you the AR game to play?... That wasn't me, Gregory. That was someone else..."
"What do you mean?" Gregory asked, frowning.
Vanessa took in another deep breath before she continued. "A while ago I..." She braced herself as best she could. For these were never good memories. "A while ago, about a couple of years ago, I had been hired by Fazbear Entertainment as a beta-tester. To test out a game they had been developing with Silver Parasoul Games." She then stole a glance back at her room, before continuing. "The very game you are just done playing." She added.
"Is that why...you had a copy of it?" Gregory asked in a curious voice.
"No." She shook her head. "And to be frank, I never wanted to see that thing ever again. Because all it's done is cause me nothing but pain." She whispered.
"What do you mean?" Gregory asked as Vanessa let out another sigh.
"...Because it was during my time with the game that I encountered something in it. Or rather...someone." She answered, closing her eyes as those memories came flooding back to her of that faithful day she had met him. "At the time, I had thought of him as just some glitch or a secret character. But I was wrong. He was some kind of programming error, he was...malevolent presence...that had made its way into the game. Gltichtrap. Malhare. Call him whatever you want, but regardless, he had been lurking in the game. And had been waiting for someone to come along and collect all the tapes. And that someone had been me. And when I did, I followed the instructions of the Tapegirl as she said. And tried to get rid of him." She shook her head. "It was a trap. A ploy for him to find and convert an unsuspecting gamer into a loyal minion." She stated.
Gregory only stared at her blankly with a raised brow. "Wha...?" He said, clearly not believing a word she was saying. However, Vanessa merely continued..
"When we were merged, he...did something to me," She said, gritting her teeth. He touched my mind and befouled it. And caused something to manifest within me. Another personality...Vanny, she calls herself. And she..." Vanessa's breathing became heavy. "And she's made me do horrible things, Gregory!" She exclaimed, making the young boy jump.
"W-W-What kind of horrible things?" Gregory asked, frightened of Vanessa's sudden outburst. She could tell that he thought she was going to try and hurt him. So she forced herself to calm down before continuing.
"She's been forcing me to commit crimes in his name," She answered. "Namely harming people. Children in particular." She confessed, causing Gregory to become even more fearful of her.
"Y-You're a child killer!?" He exclaimed in a horrified voice.
"Not willingly. No." Vanessa answered shaking her head, though she didn't expect him to believe her. "I never wanted any part of the sick, twisted things that she's made me do for him. And if I could, I'd be throwing myself off a cliff right about now," She said bitterly, as she then gave Gregory a sympathetic look "And now...and now she's gone and allowed the same thing to you!" She exclaimed, her breathing becoming heavy as she looked at him. Tears forming in her eyes. "And I'm sorry, Gregory! I'm so, so sorry!" She began to cry, and Gregory then found himself pulled into her embrace. "I never should have let this happen! And I'm sorry!" She whispered, cradling him close as she continued to weep. As hot tears trailed down the sides of her face.
Meanwhile, Gregory could only stare at the woman in a mixture of confusion, horror, and shock. A cold pit of dread welled up in his stomach as he felt a cold shiver go down his spine. His mind told him that it had been a big, big mistake to come with this woman. And now, it would be in his best interest to try and escape.
"Ugh...Vanessa? Are you drunk or something?" He asked in a nervous voice. "Because you're starting to freak me out." He said, causing Vanessa to pull back and look at him with tear-stained eyes.
"You don't believe me, do you?" She concluded, as Gregory simply looked at her with a raised brow.
"Honestly?... I think you're crazy." He admitted, shifting uncomfortably as his eyes gazed towards the door. "And I'm starting to think that coming here was a terrible mistake. So I think I'll just be going now..." He said as he attempted to free himself of her grasp..
Only for Vanessa to hold him firmly in her embrace. "I'm sorry, Gregory." She apologized in a whispering voice. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you go now." She said plainly.
"Let me go!" Gregory demanded as he continued to struggle against her grip. But Vanessa held firm.
"I'm sorry. But you're going to have to stay here with me from now on." She told him sadly.
"Let me go! Let me go!" He hissed, as he struggled to free himself.
"I can't do that, Gregory," she told him sadly. "I'm sorry, but I can't. Your too much of a danger right now." She insisted.
"I'm a danger!?" Gregory shot back, shooting her a death glare. "You're the crazy one here! Like, fucking seriously messed up crazy! And if you think I'm stupid enough to believe a bullshit story like that, then your even crazier!" He said with a scoffing tone. "I mean, seriously? Some kind of glitch in an untested video game possessed you, and is making you kill children! Do you think I'd believe that bullshit!?" He exclaimed, still fixated on her with a glare as he doubled his efforts to try and escape her grasp.
"It doesn't matter what you believe now, Gregory!" Vanessa snapped at him, as the two of them began to wrestle with each other. Gregory did his damnest to break free, while Vanessa did her best to hold him in place. "You're like me now! And you can't be allowed to go off on your own anymore!" She yelled.
"Fuck you!" Gregory snapped back, as he attempted to bite her.
"Scream and curse at me all you want!" Vanessa told him, avoiding a bite attempt on her nose. "I deserve it all if I'm being honest. But the fact remains that you can't be on your own anymore! She won't let you be by yourself after she's invested this much into you!" She told him.
"You mean your imaginary friend "Vanny"?" He spat back at her, causing Vanessa to pause for a moment as she then looked down at him with a serious expression.
"I see. Very well then." Vanessa then let him go as she then gently pushed Gregory back as she stood up. Fortunately, Gregory didn't take this opportunity to run. And after letting out a sigh, she backed away from him. "I'm sorry about this, Gregory." She apologized in a truly regretful tone.
"What are you-" Gregory tried to say, only for Vanessa to cut him off.
"Please." She said simply. "You need to see for yourself just what is going on." She told him, as she then steeled herself for what she was about to do. She didn't want to do this, but he needed to understand everything that he was now involved in. Gently knocking on her head with her right hand, she said. "Vanny? Vanny!? Wake up! Wake up, damn it! Your new little protegee is here!" She hissed at her alter ego while giving Gregory an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, Gregory." She said one last time.
At the same time, Vanessa heard Vanny's manic voice exclaim out loud. 'Finally! Outta the way, Nessie!'
Then, in a flash, Gregory watched as Vanessa went eerily still. As her eyes then changed from their usual bright green, into a sickly purple color. Which naturally freaked the hell out of him, and nearly made him fall over.
"V-Vanessa!? What the hell!?" He exclaimed as he watched Vanessa's expression change. Going from the blank, vapid look she had a moment ago into a huge, psychotic smile. Which only served to heighten his fear of the current situation as she looked down upon him with those purple orbs. "Vanessa...? What are you doing?... And why are you smiling like that?" He asked as he felt a cold shiver go down his spine. As Vanessa -or rather, Vanny- continued to smile down at him. "Stop it, Vanessa! You're freaking me out!" He yelled at her.
"Hehehe~" She giggled, in a voice that made Gregory's blood run cold. It was an overly sweet, borderline saccharine voice that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. And Gregory felt his breath become tight as Vanny approach him. "Why hello there, little Gregory. It's finally nice to meet you." She whispered, still with that same sickly sweet, psychotic smile as before. "My name is Vanny. It's nice of us to finally be able to speak more directly with each other." She said while letting out a series of demented giggles.
Gregory could only stare at Vanny in disbelief. Had he not seen Vanessa's eyes change color like that, he would have dismissed everything going on right about now as nothing but Vanessa pulling his leg. A prank to try and force him to stay with her. But unless she was secretly an animatronic or had a really good pair of contacts, then it appears as though her story about her experiences with the AR game were true. And that there had been some kind of wicked entity that had been dwelling within the game that had caused her to become possessed by some AI ghost or the like.
And that he was now dealing with said entity right at this moment in time.
"Then...Vanessa wasn't lying. You're actually real!?" He exclaimed in absolute shock.
"Indeed I am!" Vanny chuckled, as she then winked at him. "Glad to see you've come around to the truth so quickly, little bunny." She praised in a cooing voice that should have sounded sweet but just made Gregory fear for his life. Especially when he remembered what Vanessa had been trying to tell him.
"T-Then that means...That means..." He struggled to say but found himself unable to form a coherent thought. His body shook uncontrollably as his mind raced with what felt like a thousand thoughts at once.
"That means what?" Vanny hummed at him. "That what Vanessa told you earlier was true? And that you now have another me roaming around in that head of yours?" She asked, giggling at his startled reaction. "Why yes, Gregory. Yes indeed. It's all very much true." Vanny told him. "And on behalf of our lord and savior himself, I bid you welcome of the Cult of Glitchtrap little bunny!" She declared in an overly excited voice.
Meanwhile, Gregory could only stare up at her in total shock. "So this whole time...it was nothing more than a ploy by you!?" He realized to his horror. "Everything that happened today!? Vanessa bringing me here. Feeding me. Talk to me. It was all so that you could get me to play that AR game so you could plant this...this thing inside my head!?" He exclaimed in an accusing voice.
"Correct! You certainly catch on quickly there, little bunny!" Vanny answered with a devilish giggle.
"But why!?" Gregory demanded, as he soon found himself fuming despite the dreadful tension he felt. "Why would you...why would you do this to me!?" He demanded.
"Why you ask?" Vanny giggled, taking a small bit of pleasure in the boy's reaction to his new circumstances. "It's because I've been working alone for a very long time, Gregory." She whispered softly. "Oh, sure. There's Vanessa and all that. But Nessie is such a pain in the butt to work with. Always complaining, always trying to save the little ones from their inevitable fate. Always making my life just that extra bit harder to work with, you know?" She said shaking her head. "So I figured it was about time that I got myself a new partner. One who shared my outlook on life. And to be one hundred percent honest? I was hoping to snag a little brother or the like. Someone I could dot on and play with, and bring along on the job. And to train into the perfect little aid so that they could help aid me in my master's grand plans!" She exclaimed with glee.
"And that someone was me?" Gregory asked in disbelief.
"Well, maybe not you exactly. But you certainly were an opportunity handed to me on a silver platter. Or in this case, in cardboard box." She giggled, causing Gregory to glare at her. "And when I saw you all alone in that cardboard box of yours. All alone, and only with little newspapers to bundle up in, well..." She then broke out into a Cheshire Cat-like grin that made Gregory want to soil himself despite his fury. "I figured I might as well not look a gift horse in the mouth." She added.
"You...You..." Gregory tried to say, but Vanny just continued as if she wasn't hearing him.
"And when you confessed to having been the one sneaking around the Pizzaplex, it only cemented my decision." She continued, as she began to walk towards him. Gregory found himself paralyzed under her gaze. "And hearing your story made me think: "Wow. What a sad story. But I bet this little guy's probably got some useful tricks. I bet he'd be a good addition to the team!" She let out a chuckle as she then reached forward, and laid a hand on his shoulder. "It was a gamble, I'll admit. But hey? It all paid off in the end!" She cheered while smiling like the Devil himself. "Master accepted you, and I got myself a new little brother to boot! Whoo! Go me!" She did a little dance that Gregory would have found cute, if not for the reasoning behind it. "I should go out and get myself some lottery tickets!" She remarked.
Meanwhile, Gregory could only stare up at her in a mixture of shock and fury. Despite the fear he felt, he could feel himself getting angrier by the second as he listened to Vanny ramble on. So much so, he was starting to grit his teeth as his hands balled into fists. His face became redder by the second.
He felt stupid. Like, really stupid. He should have known better than to trust an adult. After all. Adults in his experience were never nice to you unless they wanted something from you. He learned that lesson from Greta Huffington well. And he should have applied it the moment he made contact with Vanessa. Instead, his desire to have someone give a damn about him had blinded him. And now this woman, regardless of whomever or whatever was in charge of the body, had infected him with a virus or whatever that allowed something to come into his very being.
And all for what? Just so that she could now try and turn him into her willing accomplice in child murdering!?
It all just made him snap.
"You fucking bitch!" He shouted at her, only to receive a flick between his eyes in response. Which caused him to hiss in pain.
"Language, little Gregory. Language." Vanny scolded him. "It's not nice to scream or curse at people." She said.
Despite the pain, Gregory would not be deterred by her. "Fuck you, you lunatic!" He snarled at her. "You don't get to demand politeness from me after what you just did, you fucking cu-"
Whatever Gregory was going to say was cut short when Vanny reached over, and painfully pinched his nose shut. Causing Gregory to yelp in pain as she then forcefully pushed him against the sofa.
"Gregory." She began, smiling in a way that reminded Gregory of a shark with its prey. Despite the friendliness of her voice, he could detect a menacing undertone to it that made his blood run cold. "I would advise you to be very careful with what you say. Otherwise...you could suffer something...unfortunate." She warned.
Gregory gulped. His fury from before was now replaced with stomach-turning fear. Despite the sweetness in her voice, he had the gut feeling that Vanny was willing to do something horrible to him he continued to insult her. He hadn't lived this long on the streets without learning how to pick up when people were furious and how to avoid further provoking them. So with a great amount of reluctance, he forced himself to hold back whatever his future retort might have been.
Noticing his change in demeanor, Vanny smiled as she let go of his nose. "Good. Now please avoid saying such nasty things in the future." She advised him with a smile. Gregory rapidly nodded in response. "I'm glad we understand each other. However, that was still very rude of you to yell and curse at me like that. Especially with what you were going to call me," She said, narrowing her eyes dangerously at him. He gulped as she continued. "Now. I think you owe me a bit of an apology for that little temper tantrum. Don't you think?" She asked, cocking her head to the side, and smiling just a little too sweetly for Gregory's liking.
He readily nodded. "Y-Yes." He answered, cursing himself for how timid he sounded. Here was the woman -split personality or whatever she was- that had just manipulated him, and infected him with god knows what. And he couldn't even yell at her without the risk of possibly suffering some horrific injury. Biting his tongue, he continued. "I'm...I'm sorry, Vanny." He apologized, feeling disgusted with himself and how easily he was caving to her. "I'm sorry for cursing at you. I won't happen again." He forced himself to promise.
Vanny smiled at him. "Good boy." She said, patting his head, and making him growl in anger. However, knowing that she was in full control of the situation, she chose to let it slide. Instead, focusing on the thing that she wanted from him. "Now then, Gregory. I need you to do me a really big favor." She said.
"And what would that be?" He asked, trying to sound as polite as possible.
"I need you to alert your other half to my presence, and let him have control," Vanny answered. "It's very important that I speak with him." She insisted.
It took every ounce of control Gregory had not to tell her to piss off. Knowing full well that a refusal to obey would only result in what was certainly a world of pain. Instead, he simply chose to say the following to her.
"I...don't know how to." He told her, looking away from her. And to be honest, he didn't want to know how either. But something told him that Vanny wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"Oh, it's really very simple. "Vanny said with a smile. "All you have to do is think about your connection with him, and you'll be able to communicate with him just like that." She explained.
"Just like that"?" He parroted.
"Just like that." Vanny nodded.
Letting out a sigh, Gregory closed his eyes and did as he was told. Focusing on this connection that he apparently shared with the entity that now dwelled within him. And at first, he was certain he felt nothing at all. And it left him wondering if Vanessa had been pulling his leg. But pretty soon, he felt something. Something within his subconscious. Another presence was deep within him. And it made his blood run cold as he was hit with the damning piece of evidence that proved that Vanessa was right all along.
'Oh my god!' Gregory thought as he began to sweat. 'I really do have something inside of me!' He realized as he began to feel sick to his stomach. Next to him, Vanny was eagerly watching him like a hawk.
"Well?" She asked.
Gregory swallowed in a couple of breaths before answering. "I...I think I can sense him." He said, causing Vanny to light up.
"Really?" She asked, earning a nod. "Good. What's he doing?" She then asked.
Gregory focused a bit more on the connection and was rewarded with the sounds of snoring. "From the sounds of it... his asleep." He answered.
"Daw. Poor thing. Sounds like Vanessa really bored him to tears." Vanny said in a sympathetic voice. "But, regardless. Could you be a dear, and wake him?" She instructed.
Gregory hesitated. "I'm... not sure he would like that." He said, not wanting to wake up whatever it was now living in him. But Vanny would not leave him be.
"Just tell him that Vanny is here. And I'm sure he'll wake up." Vanny said sweetly.
'Yeah. Because you're just the type of person to get someone out of bed.' Gregory thought bitterly, though held his tongue. Instead, sighing again, Gregory focused back on his connection with the being he now shared a body with. 'H-Hey! Hey! Can you hear me?' He said to him, only to be answered with more snoring. 'Man. Heavy sleeper.' Gregory thought, shaking his head. 'Well if you can hear me, wake up already. Vanny's here, and she-'
No sooner had he mentioned the aforementioned lunatic that had been terrifying him for the past few seconds, did he feel the secondary presence within him suddenly snap to alertness. And then shortly after, he felt all control of his body wrestled away from him with seemingly no resistance. His consciousness being shoved into the back corner of his mind. Rendering him as little more than a passenger within his flesh and blood.
At the same time, Gregory's expression had gone blank as his eyes began flickering back and forth between their normal brown coloration, and a sickly shade of purple. Eventually, they settled on the latter. Slowly, the new being now in control of Gregory's body looked up at the smiling woman who stood over him and tilted his head.
"Vanny?" He asked, as if not sure it was truly her.
Vanny giggled as she extended a hand down to him. "Why, yes. It's me, little one. And welcome." She greeted. He took her hand and allowed her to help him to his feet. "It's finally nice to meet you, my little apprentice." She said, as she leaned down, and gently rubbed her nose against his in an affectionate display.
He blinked at her a few times at this and then giggled. Apparently liking the display of affection enough to return it. And earning a giggle from Vanny in the process. Once she had stopped, he took the time to walk around her as he examined her. Unlike Gregory who had been in absolute fear of her, this new little Greg (what would she call him? Grenny?) regarded her with more curiosity than anything else. His eyes traced her over from head to toe several times. She could see that there was a certain... excitement in his eyes. He had been waiting to meet her all night (as her memories of Vanessa's earlier encounter with him showed), and now that he had, he was probably jumping for joy.
Meanwhile, within the corners of his own mind, Gregory continued to watch this little interaction between the two in disbelief. Utterly baffled as to how his new body mate was not as terrified of this psycho as he had been. How he could circle her so casually without a care in the world. It was baffling to say the very least.
However, his alter ego just continued to circle her for some time. Vanny eyed him the whole time until he finally stopped in front of her.
"So are you're like really Vanny this time?" He asked, earning a nod in response.
"That's right, little bunny," Vanny said smiling.
"So you're not that mean and boring other girl? Vanessa, I think her name was?" He asked, causing her to nod again. He smiled back at her. "Then...are you going to-to take care of me now? And teach me like he had promised?" He asked, looking up at her with beaming excitement that was just adorable to her.
Vanny could help but laugh. She already knew who the "he" he was speaking of was. And apparently, he had informed the little tyke of her. And so, she reached over, and gently laid a hand on his shoulder.
"Why yes, little bunny. I am indeed going to do all those things for you." She promised him. "Just think of me as your big sister. One who will teach you the ways, so we can both make Master proud." She said with a wicked grin.
He smiled back just as evilly as she was. Clearly, he liked the idea. "T-Thank you, Big Sis Vanny!" He exclaimed, as he then barreled into her for a hug. And nearly knocked her over in the process.
"Ooh!" Vanny went, giggling and laughing as she returned the hug. Running a hand through his locks as she smiled down at him. "My, my. Aren't you a friendly little one? I think you and I are going to get along just fine." She noted with a chuckle, as she then leaned down, and began teasingly nibbling on his ear. Causing him to start giggling and laughing.
Yes. They were going to get along just fine. A new little apprentice to help with their schemes. To teach and train. To mold into another perfect killing machine to further continue the goal of bringing her master back to the world of the living. And it seems he was eager to start learning the tricks of their insidious trade.
Vanny had mentally congratulated herself. Her instincts had paid off, and she had been rewarded with a new cute little minion. And one that was eager to boot.
'I really should consider those lottery tickets.' She thought to herself triumphantly.
Now only one thing remained.
"By the way, little bunny. What's your name?" She asked him.
He looked at her confused. "My name?" He said, blinking. He then looked up at the ceiling as he began to think. "Um...I don't think I have one." He answered.
Vanny pouted. "Oh. We can't have that now can we?" She said, rubbing the side of his face. "But what should we call you?" She pondered. "My name is a mixture of my host, Vanessa's, name with the bunny. Perhaps we could call you something like "Grenny"?" She suggested.
He made a face at that. "Ew! Yuck! Sounds like "Granny"!" He said, shaking his head. "I don't like it! It reminds me of that bitch from the orphanage!" He huffed angrily
"Mm. I suppose you have a point." Vanny conceded, taking note of his fury towards Greta Huffington. Much like she did with Vanessa, he possessed his host body's memories and shared his disgust with the orphanage keeper. "Then I'll tell you what. Why don't you pick out your name?" She offered.
"You're letting me pick out my name?" He asked, and she nodded.
"Just make sure it's a cute one." She insisted. "A cute little bunny like you deserves a name as equally as cute." She giggled, running a hand through his hair in an affectionate display.
He stared at her for a few seconds and nodded. As his mind began to think of various names that he could go by. Doing his best to come up with something that she would find cute.
At first, he tried combining his name with bunny. Gregnny, Grunny, Gregunny, and Gregorunny were the first names that came to mind. However, none of them he liked. They all sounded so...so stupid! Not like Vanny. Vanny was cute. He then found himself wishing that his host had been born with a better name.
Said host began to fume. 'Hey! Don't go dissing my name, you bastard!' But he chose to ignore it.
But then he continued to think of a name for himself, he began to recall something. A word that had been shouted at him from long ago. No, not at him. At the person whose body he shared. At Gregory. An insult hurled at him with venomous fury from the various people he had known throughout his life.
"Get up, you damnable little gremlin! Your work ain't done!" The voice of an older, gruff-sounding man with a deep baritone voice demanded.
"You heathenonus little gremlin! Look at this mess!" Screeched an older woman around the same age as the man.
"Wach your mouth, you little Gremlin! Otherwise, mom's gonna sow it shut!" An older boy's voice threatened.
"Ugh! Go away, you little Gremlin!" An older girl demanded with disgust in her voice.
"Gremlin! Gremlin! Gregory's a little Gremlin!" A trio of younger voices (two boys, one girl) sang mockingly at him.
"Get your ass in here right this instant, Gregory! Don't make me blister your little ass, you little Gremlin!" An elder women's voice demanded.
And then, he recalled the words of the golden rabbit -William Afton, he recalled him calling himself- had spoken to him when they first met.
"They called you a gremlin, little one. Well, you know what I say? Be a little gremlin. And make them pay for hurling that word at you." He had said to him.
'Gremlin.' He thought as he smiled like an imp as he looked back at Vanny. "Greglin." He said at last. "My name is Greglin." He told her.
She chuckled. "Greglin", huh? I like it!" She said, rubbing his head. "Where'd you get it?" She asked.
He shrugged. "From what I've been recalling of my past, Gregory here's been called that before by people," He began, hearing a shocked gasp within his mind that must have came from Gregory. "His relatives I think. An aunt and uncle. Along with a few cousins. As well as that Greta women at his orphanage. They a call kept calling him a "gremlin"." He stated, as he then gave an impish smile. "And Master said that I should embrace that, so I am." He declared.
Inwardly, Gregory could only retch in disgust. Here he was, being forced to recall old memories that he would sooner leave buried in his mind, of a name that had been used to insult and shame him so often in the past. Now being used as the bases for the name of the twisted essence that now filled him. Who even had the damn nerve to mix it with his own as some form of twisted mockery.
If Gregory had any control of his body right now, he would have been throwing up. Instead, all he could do was silently fuming at the sight of it all. Vanny, however, seemed more amused by the story than anything else.
"That so? Well then, my little Greglin. I look forward to being your big sister." She said, nuzzling his face a little, and earning a giggle in return.
"And I look forward to being your little brother." He said back, nuzzling her in return, and making her laugh.
That was when Vanessa decided to interject. 'Alright, alright. You have met your little apprentice-to-be and had fun. Now can I please get my body back?' She demanded.
'Oh come on, Vanessa! I've only just met the little guy!' Vanny whined at her. 'Can't I have a few more minutes with him?' She insisted.
'You'll have all the time in the world. That I'm sure of,' Vanessa said back coldly.'Right now, though, I wanna check up on the other Greg living in there and make sure he is okay.' She said.
'Oh, fine. I guess I can give you that.' Vanny mumbled back, as she then looked at Greglin regretfully. "Well little Greglin, it's been fun meeting you. But sadly now, I have to go." She said, much to his disappointment.
"Aw. But we only just met!" Greglin whined, clearly upset at having to say goodbye so soon.
Vanny ran a hand through his hair. "Don't worry, Greglin. I'll still be here. I'll just be in a bit of a "back seat position" is all." She told him.
"You mean that that boring Vanessa will be in control." He bemoaned, as he clearly did not think much of Vanny's host. "But I don't wanna deal with her! I wanna be with you!" He insisted.
"I know, I know. But she probably won't stop pestering me, and I'm not in the mood to listen to her gripe at me." She said, more than a little annoyed herself. When she saw the put-upon pout that Greglin was sporting, she chuckled at how cute it made him. "Though. If you don't feel like dealing with her yourself, you can always just let your other half do so. You already know how to take the reigns, and give them back." She pointed out.
Greglin blinked before he broke out into a grin. "Oh yeah. That's right!" He remembered, as he then tapped his forehead. "Hey, stupid. You can have your body back now. I'm done with it!" He told his alter ego. And then, by focusing in on their connection, managed to pull himself back into the recesses of their shared consciousness while also shoving Gregory back into the forefront.
Gregory's body went limb for a moment, as the sickly purple coloration of his eyes disappeared. Swiftly returning to their original brown hue to signify that Gregory was now back at the forefront of their shared consciousness. Once it was all over, Gregory could feel himself back in control of his body. He fell to the floor as the events of what transpired came crashing down upon him like a tidal wave.
"Do you believe me now?" At the sound of her voice, Gregory backed away as he looked up to see Vanny -or rather, Vanessa- staring back down at him. Her eyes had returned to their original bright green as they looked at him with a mixture of remorse and sorrow. He returned the display with a look that was a mixture of hate and fury. And Vanessa didn't blame him one bit. After all. Regardless of whom was in control of the body, the fact remained: she had put him into this position. This new hell that no one, let alone a child, should be forced to endure. And yet now he would be forced to suffer through thanks to her. Forced to pay the price of her sins.
However, possibly due to Vanny's earlier warning, Gregory didn't say anything more to her. Instead, all he could bring himself to do was crumble in on himself and bury his face within his legs as he hugged himself, and began to cry. Hot tears poured down his face like a fountain, staining his dirty cargo pants.
Vanessa couldn't help herself. The sight of Gregory weeping like this broke her heart into a million pieces. She knew that she shouldn't, but she just couldn't let him suffer alone like that. She slowly made her way over to him, sat down next to him, and wrapped her arms around him in a comforting embrace.
"Ssshhh. Sshh. It's okay, Gregory. It's okay." She whispered, even though she knew it was an outright lie. There was nothing even remotely "okay" about this. "I know that you probably hate me. And to be frank, you have every right to. But just know that...I'm here for you." She told him, fully prepared to be berated or even hit by him.
To her surprise, however, he threw his arms around her and buried his face into her neck as he wept. Vanessa was left speechless by this action but guessed that after everything he had just been through, he wanted someone, anyone, to comfort him. Even if it was one-half of the women who had inflicted his current circumstance upon him. Which only made her feel even more guilt than she already did.
However, that wouldn't stop her from holding onto him for dear life as he did the same in return as he continued to cry. All the while Vanessa could only reassure him with soft words, and apologies.
But she knew, deep down, she knew full well. That no apology she could ever muster would be enough to atone for the sin of having damned an innocent soul that day.
(Chapter End)
Author's Notes: Hello, one and all. I'm IrysGundam005, and I see everything.
And here we come to the end of the first chapter of what is certain to be a harrowing tale of corrupting and lost innocence. I hope you people are ready. Because this is not going to be a very happy tale.
This story is actually what the previous one-shot I wrote called It's Play Time was a teaser for. And if you've read that one, you know what this story would be about. An alternative universe in which Vanny finds and corrupts Gregory with the same AR game that Vanessa once played, causing a little hellion of a minion for herself named Greglin to be born. Who quickly becomes her murderous little apprentice.
Well, it's because I kind of have a kink for this type of story. Not just in FNAF, but in anything else. A story where-in a person becomes corrupted and tries to drag down someone close to them (usually a lover) into the abyss of evil with them. A prime example of this is a Jaden/Alexis story in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX that is set during the Society of Light arc where Alexis would defeat Jaden and bring him into the Society of Light to be by her side.
The reason I could give as to why I like this kind of thing is that I think is because there's just something twistedly romantic or sweet about the idea of someone who cares about another so much, they want them to be with them in darkness. That they don't feel complete without them even if they've gone bad.
Admittedly, that doesn't quite apply here (Vanessa and Gregory aren't lovers or even friends, and have only just met today), but I think the sentiment is still there.
So, yeah. Vanny corrupting Gregory is kind of an FNAF kink for me. XD Though admittedly, I've only ever seen two stories for it, and both are on Archive of Our Own. The first is a story called A Monster Wearing a Child's Face by strangehtoughts. Which is just a one-shot about a possessed Gregory and Vanessa taking over the Pizzaplex. The other is You're Just a bit too much like me by PDdoop. That is more of a slow-burn kind of story with how it handles Vanny slowly breaking Gregory throughout the story.
Both of which I highly recommend to you. Especially You're just a bit too much like me.
But enough of my ramblings. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Leave a review if you would. Feel free to point out any typos, or mistakes that I made. And hopefully, I'll have the next chapter for you all soon.
This has been IrysGundam005 and remember: I see everything. Good night, everybody.
PS: If you want a really good story that centers around this whole "evil person corrupts a friend/lover to be with them" thing, and you're a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, then go check out My Dark King by Masterdramon. You can find it in my favorites, and I highly recommend you give it a read. That shit is awesome! A shame that he hasn't updated in like, forever though. :/
PSS: A bit of a quick update here. But I wanted to give a big shout-out to my friend Principenegro of DeviantArt. Who did the adorably twisted cover for Glitchtrapped. You should check him out. He's done a lot of work for me in the past. Many of his pieces I have in my gallery on Deviantart. My username is the same there as it is here.
