Luz had been attempting to take it easy since the Library Incident.

She hadn't been doing that well, but she was trying to stay out of trouble as much as possible, even if it seemed like that was impossible.

Case in point, two days after the library incident, Eda and King had decided to get back up to shenanigans. Aka a bodyswap.

Luz had vehemently refused to take part, and so ended up spending the day with Willow and Gus, and that had been fun. Hanging out with her friends with no threat of death or dismemberment or any sort of stakes at all was nice for a change.

The next day was peaceful until Gus burst into the Owl House, practically begging her to come to Hexside so he could keep his job as the president of the Human Appreciation club.

She had refused at first, because she was banned, but he told her the ban was lifted, and she trusted him, why wouldn't she?

Turns out she shouldn't have.

They ended up in detention, which was not anything like detention on Earth. It was so much worse.

They fought their way out with the help of the guy who put them there in the first place, and they were celebrating their escape when Principal Bump came around the corner with, of all people, Eda.

He started yelling about how he wasn't letting her into Hexside, because apparently Eda had worked hard to get him to let her in, which was very nice of her.

Gus took the fall for her though, which was very nice of him, and pretty much the only reason she still wanted to be friends with him.

Gus suggested they meet again in a week to watch a game between Glandus and Hexside as celebration of her getting in.

The chaos was, admittedly, her fault that time. They missed the bus because she had dressed in Glandus colors, and she went to go change, so Luz went to get Owlbert so they could fly to the game, which she did, but then she crashed him into a tree and hurt him, so he ran away to the Bat Queen, who challenged Luz with three tasks to get Owlbert back.

Honestly, it hadn't been too bad. It was difficult, but it wasn't fun by any stretch of the word.

First, she had to milk a spider demon. Which looked like a giant spider with an udder. It had run around, avoiding her, but she caught it very quickly, and managed to figure out how to milk it.

Then, she had to remove a bee's nest from a nearby tree. She had thought that one would be easy, one use of Externa, and bam, done. Turns out, bee's nests are just the heads of enormous bees. But she managed to lead it away.

The last was the hardest one, by far. She had to give the Bat Queen's three children a bath. While she could hold one down for scrubbing, the other two were free to cause havoc for her by rolling around in mud or messing with her by biting her arm or shoulder or breathing fire. That was not fun. She eventually managed it however.

The Bat Queen had still refused to let her take Owlbert back to Eda, even when it was clear Owlbert wanted to go back. The Bat Queen and Luz fought.

It was a tough fight for Luz, because the Bat Queen could fly, and that was something Luz had no real counter for.

During the fight, Luz learned that the Bat Queen was a giants abandoned Palisman, and that was a shock. Luz didn't know Palisman could get that big, or that they could have children.

In the end, Owlbert intervened, and the fight ended rather anticlimactically.

Then there was the whole thing around King's book deal, and the less talked about that the better.

There was no point on lingering any of that. Luz was too excited.

"King! Look at this!" She turned the pamphlet around so that the small demon curled up on her stomach could see it.

"Less reading, more scratching!"

"Sorry King, but now that I'm a student at Hexside, I want to know everything about it!" She shoved the pamphlet into his face. "I've got a new crush, and her name is Education!"

King promptly took a bite out of the pamphlet, which, fair, she did shove it in his face, but still, rude.

The door burst inwards, and Eda walked in. "Hey Freeloaders! Guess what today is!"

Luz spoke, "Is it your birthday?"

"Is it my birthday?" King asked.

"It's my birthday!" Hooty said.

"Nope! It's human treasure day!" Eda slammed the door shut, and pulled out the portal

door. Unfolding it in the middle of the living room.

Owlbert flew out of it, dragging a large sack inside behind him.

The bag burst, and Owlbert fell to the floor, clearly exhausted, and the door closed behind him.

Eda leapt onto the pile. "Ah, fresh garbage."

"Oh, Gimme gimme gimme!" King immediately ran up to the pile of trash and began digging through. He pulled out a stuffed teddy bear. "Yes! Another worthy addition to my army of terror!" He pulled a string dangling from its back.

"I love cuddles and kisses!"

"Truly horrifying!"

Eda looked towards where Luz still sat on the couch. "Yo, Kid, Your trash piles getting cold." She reached into the pile and whistled. "While mine is getting hot!" She pulled out a clothes hanger. "Have you ever seen such an extravagant earring?!"

Luz didn't look up from the now slightly torn pamphlet. "You can have my trash." She continued reading what she could and gasped. "Whoa! Did you know Hexside was built on the bones of a rival school? One it literally conquered!" She flipped the pamphlet to show Eda the picture inside of it, which showed a young Principal Bump waving a flag with the word Hexside on it, standing on top of the body of who had to be the previous Principal.

Eda didn't look, she was too busy studying her new earrings in a mirror. "Yes, I know these things, I went there, it was the most harrowing period in my life."

Luz ignored her mentor's sarcastic words. "Can you imagine it? Me, walking the halls of Hexside!" She had been to plenty of schools, but never a magic one. "Studying with Willow and Gus, and maybe even Amity!" A small blush crawled onto her face before suddenly dropping. "Amity! Oh Cramity, I've gotta go meet up with Amity to get my book back!" She ran out the front door before pausing.

She ran back and opened the door. "Love you guys, bye!" She slammed the door and hurried to the market.

Luz ran into the market, looking around for Amity.

She spotted the mint haired witch near a stall labeled: Cursed Paintings.

"Amity! Luz is finally here!" Luz ran towards her.

Luz sensed the twins right before running into them. She stopped and glared at them. "What are you two doing here?"

"They insisted on coming with." Amity walked towards Luz, glaring at her brother and sister. "They've been extra protective and nice since the library incident."

"And we still apologize every day." Edric said, looking at Amity with puppy eyes. "Speaking of which,"

Then, at the same time, Edric and Emira turned towards Luz. Luz hadn't realized they could have a serious expression.

Em spoke first. "We're sorry for what we did."

Ed nodded. "Yeah, we shouldn't have tried to steal your journal, and we definitely shouldn't have left you to deal with the consequences."

Luz looked between them, looking for any sign of deceit. When she found none, she nodded. "It's fine, you couldn't have known what would happen."

Amity dug around in her bag, pulling out the fifth Azura book. "Anyway, here's your book."

Luz wasn't too proud to admit she grabbed it a little quickly before scanning the pages for any sign of damage. She sighed in relief when she found none. She trusted Amity, but…. That book was one of the few things that remained stable, and she cared for it greatly. It was one of the only thing that was ever consistent in her life before the boiling isles. "So, did you enjoy it?" Luz smiled when she saw the art Amity had drawn hidden in the pages. She had probably meant to take that out.

"It was… Fine." Amity said, looking away.

"So fine you drew yourself with Malin Gael the mysterious soothsayer?" Luz held up the drawing, which depicted Amity hugging said character. In the drawing, Amity was saying "This Love is forbidden!"

Amity blushed, and made a small spell circle in the air. The drawing promptly disintegrated.

Luz ignored that and smiled widely. "This is great! I can't wait to start an Azura club at school when we're classmates!" Luz blushed a little. "If you want to of course." She added quietly.

Amity tilted her head in confusion. "When we're what?"

Luz smiled again. "Surprise! I'm enrolling at Hexside!"

Amity shook her head. "I'm sorry, but to be in my class you have to take a placement exam and prove that you know two spells. Do you know any?" Amity looked genuinely sad at the thought that she wouldn't make it in.

Luz nodded. "I know one." She pulled out a piece of paper and drew the light glyph on it. She activated it and held the ball of light in her hand. "I don't use it much as it's not so useful in the chaos that is my life, but I practice it every day."

Amity looked amazed. "I've never seen a light spell cast like that before. Can you cast anything else that way?"

"No." Luz brightened. "Do my legacies count? They come from a bile sac! It's different from witches bile of course, but it does come from a bile sac!"

Amity tilted her head. "I don't know. Biological abilities like fire breath don't count towards the two spell limit, but since it's influenced by bile… maybe? I honestly don't know." Amity started. "Wait, what do you mean it's different from witches bile? All bile comes from the titan."

Luz shook her head, "Not Loric Bile. Eda looked at my bile sacs with magic and determined they ran off of something else, probably the energy of Lorien. I can still feel it, just like I can on earth." She frowned. "I can't find Lorien when I look at your sky, but Loric energy is here regardless."

"Wait, Bile Sacs? You have multiple?" Amity shook her head. "Don't answer that, we don't have time to talk about that. We need to teach you another spell. I'm not sure if the Principal will count your legacies, but we can't risk it." Amity paused. "My offer to teach you abominations stands. I'd be happy to."

Luz thought about it for a second. Spending time with Amity sounded like an amazing idea, but… "I'm sorry, but I'd rather check to see if Eda has any advice first. She is versed in a lot more magic than you. No offense."

Amity shrugged. "As long as you get in. If Eda doesn't have anything to tell you, I'll be on the Knee training for the exam myself, so feel free to join me. Goodbye." With that, the Blights left.

Luz immediately ran back to the Owl House.

"Eda!" Luz looked around the living room, not seeing her mentor. She ran into other rooms until she found her in the kitchen, one hand detached and holding what seemed to be a cook book up. "Eda, you need to teach me a new spell!"

Eda didn't even look at her. "Sorry Luz, these vegetables won't cook themselves. Yet." She grabbed a teal potion and poured it onto the vegetables. The vegetables all instantly grew arms and legs and stood up. "Alright, everyone in the pot." The vegetables promptly ran away, screaming. Eda frowned. "Why do I always think that's gonna work?"

"Eda, I need two spells to get into Hexside! I only have Light Glyphs!"

Eda looked at her like she was crazy. "What do you mean? You got your skin thingie and Telekinesis, and now your share power thingie, which we do need to train by the way."

"Amity said that my Legacies might not count, and I'm not taking that risk! I don't know any spells besides Light!"

Eda glared down at her, "And whose fault is that?"

Luz looked at her with her head cocked to the side. "Yours!" She said, pointing at Eda.

Eda looked genuinely confused for a second before laughing. "Ha, got me there!" She shook her head. "In all seriousness, I've been reading my texts on Wild Magic, but they have no mention of that form of magic you use for Light, which means…" She grabbed her hand and reattached it. "Magic Boot Camp!"

King ran through the door. "Did someone say Bootcamp?! I agree to run it! We'll rise at dawn! You'll carry me on your back while I yell hateful things about your performance!" He seemed unsurprisingly ecstatic about the idea.

Eda shook her head. "Nope. You'll do nothing of the sort. You'll have no part in her training. Luz needs to focus, and I can't have her go all weird cause you did something adorable."

King glared at her and stomped a foot into the ground. "How dare you! I am not adorable!"

"Aw, he stamped his little foot." Luz couldn't help it. King was like a little puppy. A puppy that wanted to be a horrible tyrant, but a puppy was a puppy.

King ran out of the door and slammed it closed. It took a few tries before it stuck, but he eventually managed it.

Eda smirked at her and started putting her things away. "Well, no time to waste! We need to teach you magic. We need to go somewhere special, where magic just flows. We need to go to the….."

—-

"...Knee!" Eda proclaimed, gesturing to the mountain they were on.

"This is so amazing!" Luz looked around at the mountain. It was beautiful. A forest covered in snow surrounding snow covered ruins.

Eda walked forwards, talking as she walked. "The earliest witches came here to the Knee to develop their magic. Drawn to its natural power. However!" Eda stopped and pointed with her staff off to the side. "It's not without its dangers!"

Luz looked to where Eda's staff was pointing and gasped. A large apparently eyeless creature covered in white hair chewing on what looked like a massive log. "The Slitherbeast! Don't worry," She quickly added. "If you don't mess with him, he won't mess with you."

Eda led her to a small clearing in the forest. "This is where we'll be setting up shop."

Luz ran into the clearing, taking a deep breath. The air was amazing. "I'll definitely learn my second spell here! Gorgeous views, Magic in the air! Best of a-"

Luz was cut off by the sound of a spell and a faint feeling of heat approaching. She immediately remembered her training and used her telekinesis to create a mental wall.

A purple fireball smashed against it, and she heard someone call out. "Sorry whoever's over- Oh, hey Luz!" She recognized that voice.

Sure enough, Amity and the twins walked out of the woods, dressed in cold weather clothing. "Amity!"

Amity smiled at her. "Are you here to take me up on my offer? Or are you doing training on your own?"

Before Luz could answer, Eda shouted out, "Don't you dare try and steal my student from me Minty!" Eda emerged from the woods carrying a basket full of snowballs.

Ed looked between Eda and Luz before shrugging. "What are you guys working on? Something powerful? Some forbidden wild magic?"

Eda smirked. "I will be teaching my young apprentice here how to identify different types of snow by taste!" She held out a snowball and took a bite out of it as a demonstration.

All three of the Blights looked rather skeptical. So Luz spoke up, "Hey, connecting with the spirit of Lorien was how the original Garde got their powers." She smiled and grabbed one of the snowballs then took a bite of it. Hmm. Minty.
