Author's note:
This story is going to basically be a perspective from the troops on the ground same format to the stories i have done so before because situations in the briefing rooms and politics are all just so boring to me, So I'll be omitting stuff like the imperial Senate, the white house, national diet etc.
Also on an added note i will be using military terminology and slangs which i will try my best to translate for y'all that are reading. I want this story to be like "if generation kill were an anime or if generation kill were in an Isekai."
Also i am finally back for a while and college has been a real pain so i hope to give as much stories as i can for you guys, so enjoy this rendition of if the USA and Japan were to fight the empire in GATE.
I'll try my best to make the characters as well as plot interesting as they go, so i appreciate y'all if you have suggestions or reviews to make the story better.

Ginza District, Tokyo
1030 Hours
The bustling district in Tokyo was one of many with people going about their daily lives with some going for work and some visiting one of the many shops within the district. Among these people going about their lives was 6 Marines from 1st platoon, Alpha company of the 1st marine recon battalion that are there in Japan as part of an cultural exchange program. The marines were having their down time visiting an anime festival alongside their guide in the JSDF, 1st Lieutenant Yoji itami.
"Oh my gosh! They really have it! The new edition of Soap girls is here!" Itami said out loud as he sprinted towards the booth selling his favorite manga.
The group of foreigners that he was with looked in confusion as to what their supposed guide was doing.
"Hey Lt, how did we end up getting this guy as our guide? Sounds like he could use a cool down." a young man in his early 20s sporting slickback brown hair, green eyes and fair tanned skin asked crossing his arms together.
Corporal Raymond Rodriguez (Grenadier) - 23, hailing from south central LA, he is the known joker of the squad, always cracking heads with his sarcasm and general sassy attitude which gives some comic relief in a firefight.
"If you are wondering how it could be that way Trent? I suggest you take it to Major Bowman himself." another man in his mid 20s replied back to him, sporting crew cut dirty blonde hair, fairly light skin and blue eyes.
1st Lieutenant Eric Kovak (Platoon Leader) - 27, hailing from Manhattan was assigned to the platoon just right on time for the unit to be deployed at Afghanistan for their first deployment despite some rough animosity in the beginning of their deployment, he earned their respect when he led them to safety out of an ambush in the Korengal.
One of the younger guys, likely 18, was looking in awe at the neko girl booth selling t-shirts and merchandise, staring profusely until his thoughts were interrupted by a head grab from one of his fellow marine. He was larger than him and built like a truck sporting a tattoo on his left shoulder holding the marine corps globe and anchor, standard military cut ginger hair and hazel eyes.
"Come on Killer! Don't go being soft on us now looking at this weeb shit!" the large marine holding him in a head grab said in a comedic tone holding the young private between his biceps.
Lance corporal Harry "Hannibal" Clarke (Automatic Rifleman) - 25, big and brash but fiercely loyal, Hannibal earned his nickname for his near psychotic behavior in the battlefield especially one incident where he charged head first in a firefight. He hails from the great plains of montana.
Private first class Jay "Cherry" Stevens (rifleman) - 19, might have been at first glance mistaken as a college kid or highschool kid which got him his nickname but he was a capable reliable marine that wont take shit for anything. He was the runt of the squad even when he was still in boot camp but nonetheless he was an equal among them which was proven with his friendship with Hannibal. He is a city kid from Atlanta.
"f…fuck….ugh….you…Hannibal!" the young private said as his face soon turned red struggling to breathe until a female voice came around to interrupt them. The young private had the same haircut but was red and although he was fit he couldn't break free the grip off his fellow marine.
"That's enough Hannibal! Virgin kid oughta die from fire first! Get off him!" a girl in her 20s told him off and Hannibal complied. The girl had the body and figure that is suited for modelling instead and her blonde hair was tied in a ponytail with bangs alongside cold steel blue eyes which gave the presence that no marine should fuck with her especially since she is the squad's corpsman.
"Ok…okay! Jeez doc, you hating on anything fun too?"
Hannibal backed off of Cherry as the young private tried to catch his breath.
Hospitalman Nikita "Ice" Pavichenko (corps man) - 21, was raised in the sunny waves of California Los Angeles but her upbringing in the Navy wasn't pretty, she was always seen as nothing more than a guy magnet because of her looks which was brought up many times in several squads she was assigned to before and thus treated most males as hostile but the firefight at Korengal changed her outlook on the platoon especially her impression on Lieutenant Kovak. Her nickname "ice" comes from her steel cold aura but also her sensitivity when it comes to people talking about her.
"Is there a problem that needs to be addressed here?"
A man sporting a high and tight brown haircut with the same body mass as Hannibal cut them in, crossing his arms at the commotion.
"Naw staff sarge, in fact I think we kinda froze over thanks to the ice."
Ice gave Hannibal a punch on the shoulder, Hannibal fainted being hurt by it.
"ow.. Watch it doc! I think you cracked my arm.."
"Fuckin smartass… "
Ice cursed under her breath as the staff sergeant looked on.
Last but not least was the second in command of the platoon: Sergeant Major Chris Carter (assistant squad leader) - 31. Rivaling Hannibal in terms of his physicality he's the more "gentle giant" in comparison to him despite his size, he's a natural team leader on account that he has been on countless deployments before being assigned. One engagement earned everyone the utmost respect to him when he single handedly led a trapped marine patrol out of an ambush in Ramadi, his assignment with the platoon is actually his last since he is due to retire in a few months.
"Well if you guys are done here, y'all better not wander off otherwise its latrine duty back at base."
"Can't be worse than being a pogue1 sarge, I'd take latrine duty for a day over for life if that keeps me in the corps."
"Ray, I think the reason why the corps has kept you for the ride so far is because they need all the Mexicans they can get."
"Well fuck you too white boy, besides virgin like you it's any wonder why nobody has popped your cherry, Cherry haha. Maybe if ice wasn't so cold to us, she woulda popped you."
That earned Ray a heavy punch to the gut, delivered by the squad corpsman.
"Oof!.. Jesus doc, a heads up would be nice!"
"Shut the fuck up, you'll be fine and besides grunts aren't even my type."
Cherry and Hannibal look on in disbelief with a twist of irony as she joins up with Lieutenant Kovak and Itami.
"Damn… she got you on that one ray."
"Ugh.. Shut the fuck up Hannibal."
Meanwhile…
The bustling streets of the ginza district was packed and bustling with people living their daily lives, traffic jams mounting and large crowds of pedestrians crossing the street.
The ground then started shaking and suddenly the voices of the pedestrians changed into panic as they all scrambled for cover, thinking it was an earthquake.
It wasn't an earthquake at all as a gigantic gate emerged from the ground and manifested on the busy street. Curious onlookers saw the massive structure resembling a monumental building of sorts and among the people present were a group of American College students looking onto the structure curiously, the gigantic doors of the structure soon opened revealing a large dark void that was too dark to see from afar.
A man let his curiosity take him as he stepped inside to take a look but soon he was greeted by a stab in the chest, the onlookers behind him screamed in horror as his body fell to the ground. Emerging from the gate was a roman-like army followed by ogres and dragons, all hell soon broke loose when the foreign army started killing civilians soon the once busy Ginza district was filled with chaos and screams of terror.
Three months later…
October 22nd 20XX
Ginza district, Tokyo
Day 91
1045 hours
Since the Ginza incident had taken the lives of countless Japanese civilians including a group of Americans it became imperative for the US and Japan to assemble a task force to enter the special region within the gate. US President Huntington and the Japanese prime minister agreed that it would be a joint operation within the special region to not only explore the new world but to demand reparations from the parties responsible. The heavy US involvement stems from the fact that among the dead were several American citizens and the involvement of a group of off-duty military personnel added to the justification that some form of reparations had to be given, diplomatic pressure from Huntington's administration towards the Japanese gave the greenlight for American involvement under the joint security treaty.
The task force assembled for the US included 2 marine divisions2, the 75th ranger regiment attached alongside Marsoc3 Marines and Delta force, 2 armored brigades and an airborne battalion of the 101st. Whilst the JSDF assembled 5 special combat units to accompany the Americans, some news outlets have called that this was the biggest build up of American forces in Japan since World War 2.
The task force will be led by US Marine commandant General John H. Brewster alongside his Japanese counterpart Lieutenant general Hazama, General Brewster himself will be the first one to set foot inside the gate alongside the squad who are attached personally under his direct command. Alongside them was 1st Lieutenant itami and his 3rd recon squad attached under Lieutenant general Hazama, Itami and the marines were hailed as heroes in the Ginza incident for successfully buying time for the civilians and keeping the enemy at bay in the imperial palace but it came at a cost of so many lives. Controversy surrounding the officers appointed and the fact that it was an American led operation instead of Japanese led to backlash and protests from the general Japanese public and opposition groups however this did not concern both governments at all.
The many Marines and soldiers of both countries stood side by side in the street in anticipation of setting foot within the gate. General Brewster gave his speech in front of the massive gate facing the many lingering faces of the army assembled before him.
Like everyone else the General wore a forest pattern combat uniform complete with a vest, helmet and an M4 and assembled behind him were his personal staff.
"We are all gathered here for a reason and it's this reason that we must not forget. What you see behind me will lead us into the unknown, into a world different from ours in so many ways although we have conducted some forms of reconnaissance in the area, the special region still remains unknown.
The enemy might have dragons and creatures from god knows where but i do not give a shit! You will breathe fire as their dragons did! You will feel fatigue! You will feel anger! You will feel sadness! You will breathe fire day in and day out! You will be tested harder than ever before! We will get through this alive and do not let fear get inside your head! They have lit the fires of war! And we alongside our Japanese allies will be the ones But before that happens… does anyone want to back out?"
Nobody broke formation or spoke up, the assembled rows of men and women standing before him were focused and determined it was obviously clear that nobody wants to back out. A minute soon passed by in silence and all eyes fell towards the General and his entourage, soon all the soldiers assembled stomp their foot down straightening their posture in unison.
The Ginza Marines was assembled to the front of the row, Lieutenant Kovak was squared away and he was more than determined to find the perpetrators behind this attack. He took a glance at one side of the metal barrier, the mourning families of the victims dressed in all-black weeping their tears, among the crowd was a young little girl who looked on at him and his squad with a blank expression likely the result of the trauma of seeing her loved one taken from her.
Like Novak among the Marines gathered for the mission was Staff sergeant Julian Raine aged 29, tank commander of an Abrams platoon callsign "Anvil". Assigned under the 2nd Tank battalion of the 2nd marine division, he and his crew had seen action in Iraq and been through more firefights than anyone could see in movies. Slick back brown hair and roughly the same height as Carter, he's a no nonsense type of platoon leader always taking the job literally possibly due to his experience but he always prioritizes the lives of his crew and the Marines that he is assigned with.
Just our luck that we're being sent to some special region, the new kids are pumped to see some action since boot. I oughta tell these 'boots' that war wasn't some kind of video game or some shit.
Raine said in his thoughts as he looked at the fresh faces of the newly graduated crewmen under his platoon, standing in parade stance in front of him.
Heh luckily Carter and his guys are squared away with Kovak.
He glanced at the Ginza marines up front as General Brewster laid onto parade rest. Giving one final look around before announcing and straightening his posture.
"Present!...Arms!"
The entire assembly of military personnel both Japanese and US, simultaneously straightened themselves to give a salute at the General's orders. The stunning display was captured by the media, camera flashes, phones recording from the spectators there and posts about it began circulating in social media in a matter of seconds.
"Order!... Arms!"
In unison the assembly tucked their palms back into a straightened posture.
"Diiiiissssssmissssed!"
The entire assembly soon turned and ran for the vehicles already staged for the gate, Kovak and his squad went for the second lead Armored personnel carrier (AAVP-7A1) alongside the rest of their platoon. Spearheading the advance were the Abrams and the JSDF type 10 tanks, following up were the infantry carriers and the humvees then the command assets.
Kovak looked around the cabin as it filled to the brim with Marines like himself and his squad. They were packed like a tin of sardines as their vehicles went inside the gate and all the light outside turned black.
"Jesus Christ, feels like we're back in Iraq again. Fuckin filled to the brim with the old breed and boots."
"You always spurt out the same shit Rodriguez. It's any wonder why you ain't the black sheep of the platoon."
A marine spoke up next to Ray, Ray responded by giving a huff.
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean? You a racist Montes?"
"How the fuck am I racist when we're the same race, asshole?"
Montes gave Ray a punch on the shoulder as he started chuckling. Ice paid no mind to the banter as she was busy reading a small translation dictionary.
"What you readin there doc?"
"A translator, in case we run into more of these guys. Apparently they speak another form of latin so it could be handy if we find any civilians too."
The marine gave a look at her then turned to lieutenant Kovak.
"Lieutenant, is it true what the reports says? The guys that you hold back were wearing Roman armor or some shit?"
Before Kovak could say anything, Cherry interrupted.
"I heard from the guys in 4th platoon that there's elves on the other side."
"Come on..Since when should we believe the shit from 4th platoon cherry? They always spurt out bullshit like that time it was supposed to be pizza night at base."
"Alright Quiet down kids, we're not even there yet and you're starting fights already. Just sit the fuck back and enjoy the ride."
"Aw come on sarge just your average talk between the grunts. Am I right, doc?"
Ice just gave a glare then a scoff before continuing to read her book, the cabin went quiet and as soon as they reached the other side, anvil reported on the radio.
"All units in the vicinity, this is Anvil 1 we have contact. I say again, troops in contact!"
"Solid copy Anvil 1, all units this is Godfather… spread out into a defensive formation and hold the area… Do not let the enemy advance and keep your NODs4 on.
The AAV soon grinded to a halt as the Marines prepared to disembark. Everyone equipped their night vision goggles and cocked their weapons at the ready.
Lieutenant Kovak was the first to step out as he clenched the M4 in his hand waiting for the ramp to open.
This is it, the moment of truth
He thought and once the ramp went down everyone scrambled out of the vehicles. The land that they're sitting on was a tall Hill, looking down on the enemy that was at least 300-200 meters away from their position. The hill had no vegetation aside from some dead trees and it gave a perfect view of the entire area.
The infantry set up nearby the humvees forming a secondary line of fire behind the Abrams and AAVs5, the anticipation came as the foreign army kept marching towards them. The cold metal barrels of every single gun were pointed at them, Lieutenant Kovak set himself up with his M4 near a small mound. The marines and JSDF soldiers beside him had their weapons trained on a group of cavalry horsemen charging forward directly at them, their swords drawn and their yells could be heard from a distance.
Eric had his sights pointed at the lead riding horseman and his armor was steelish black along, this likely indicated that he was an Officer charging alongside his men. Eric had no thoughts in that moment other than "aim for the center mass" shifting the sights of his rifle to be pointed directly towards the enemy officer's chest.
"all units this is Anvil, weapons free, weapons free, Light em up!"
In a matter of milliseconds the entire hill lit up with hot lead as tracers from every gun that was fired found their targets on the enemy that approached the task force.
First the bullets came then the tank shells followed, waves of men were blown aside with some of their bodies flying in the air and some parts of their limbs.
Eric gently curled his finger on his trigger and pulled it, the bullet exited the barrel of the rifle and the shell from the ejector. It then found its target on the chest of the enemy horseman as he fell to the ground with a large thud from his horse.
Staff sergeant Raine looked down the commander's sights as he could see a large formation of them charging towards them. The enemy ran in neat straight lines as they charged forth and he soon gave instructions for his tanks.
"All anvil victors, focus fire on hostiles approaching at bearing 215 North, estimated strength at least battalion sized. Use your machine guns and save the shells for heavier targets."
"Copy that Anvil 1."
The M240 coaxial machine guns from the Abrams fired bursting shots at the enemy infantry, wave after wave of them fell but they kept on charging forward. The enemy brought their ogres, goblins and large creatures with them at the spearhead but they too perished under the hailstorm of explosions and gunfire while their dragons got knocked down from the sky by the JSDF's type 87s.
Several hours later…
Special region
0630 Hours
Day 0
The entire base of the hill was littered with bodies both human and non-human, the visitors from the other world sitting at the top were exhausted from fatigue because they fought all night. The enemy legion didn't stop charging at them and the fighting ended with thousands of them dead whilst sustaining almost no casualties among the task force.
Kovak looked at the piles of bodies strewn across the base of the hill and the giant craters scattered all around. He could see that some Marines and several JSDF soldiers patrolling through the dead with weapons drawn, one wounded enemy legionary tried to get the jump on them but he was gunned down in seconds.
Itami stepped beside him as they both looked at the carnage.
"Y'know, I wonder what these guys are feeling seeing that their comrades are torn to pieces. Makes you wonder what would've happened if we were on the opposite end of our guns."
"Heh… Reminds me of a quote that you guys said a while back in world war 2."
"Yeah? And what's that?"
"I fear that all, We have done is that we awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with terrible resolve… isoroku Yamamoto."
Itami was dumbstruck by kovak's response and he simply gave a friendly smile before stepping off leaving the JSDF officer alone to admire the rising sun touching the battlefield.
The battlefield glistened with bodies of only the roman armor wearing soldiers along with several creatures donned with or without armor and not a single scratch or casualty is found among the modern visitors of the gate except for a few wounded from arrows.
It soon became clear that the fate of the empire will change forever as the marines and JSDF troops pressed forward, the Abrams and type 10s marched over first with them crushing the enemy dead under their mighty treads and soon followed by the lighter vehicles. The troops followed as they raced from the hill towards a direction unknown. The empire will soon learn the might of the sleeping giants.
