Prologue: The Fox Wakes
"All men are not created equal. This mindset rang true for me at a very early age; that was until I met her…"
"What are you doing, Kacchan? Can't you see that he's crying, this isn't how a hero would act," yelled a green haired child trembling slightly. This child was Midoriya Izuku, age four, and currently he found himself between his former friend, now bully, Bakugo Katsuki, his two cohorts and another child crying on the ground.
"Oh, if it isn't Deku trying to play hero again? What makes you think that you can be a hero…you don't even have a quirk to help," Katsuki questioned with a condescending sneer, his palms sparking to life with small explosions.
"W-what? No K-Kacchan, I just think you should stop," Izuku stammered out while waving his arms in front of his body.
"Who do you think you are trying to give me orders, quirkless," forced out the sandy blonde growing continually more agitated. As the sparking from his palms intensified, Katsuki and his group began to descend upon Izuku, slowly at first but increasing in pace the closer they got.
Izuku began to shake more as Bakugo got to him, hand cocked back sparking menacingly. Bakugo's hit came faster than Izuku could react, the explosion occurring direct in front of his face sending him crashing to the ground with a small thud. "See Deku? Do you see how insignificant you are, trying to play at being a hero," Bakugo taunted reeling his hand back to continue the abuse.
As Bakugo let loose another swing, mini explosions going off as the hand neared Izuku's face, the green haired child with his eyes closed could only muster one thought, "Stop, please." Suddenly, everything was quiet, and Izuku could feel a gentle breeze caressing his face. Slowly opening his eyes, the child was greeted to the sight of a large field under a blue sky. "Where am I," thought the green haired boy as he stood up.
"We're inside your mind ningen."
Izuku jumped with a start at the voice that boomed like that of rolling thunder. Turning quickly, Izuku found himself staring as the cheshire like grin of a giant fox. "WHAT ARE YOU?! PLEASE DON'T EAT ME," screamed the child whilst cowering in fear under the gaze of the fox.
"Why wou.."
"Then you'll use my bones as toothpicks and…"
"Ningen, hey can y…"
"God I haven't even gotten my quirk yet, is this how…"
"NINGEN QUIET," yelled the fox, instantly quieting the frazzled child. Izuku paused his ramblings to look at the fox, this time really looking, gaping as the majesty of the creature came into scope.
Before him the fox laid with its' head rested upon its' front paws, nine tails curled around to the side. Its' fur shown as white as a cloud dancing in the sky only marred by the majestic green fur found on the tips of its' tails, ears, and feet. Opening its' eyes, Izuku could only stare into the deep emerald slitted pools looking down on him.
"Good," the fox spoke once again, "As I was saying before, this is your mind ningen. I was wondering when we'd have to the opportunity to meet."
"W-who are y-you," Izuku stuttered out still trying to process the current situation.
"I am Kurama, but more importantly, I am your quirk ningen," replied to fox now known as Kurama.
"M-my quirk," exclaimed the child who once thought he might be quirkless, "You mean I can summon you and we can fight together?" As Kurama chuckled at his question, Izuku realized by the sound of the laugh that the being before him was a female.
"No ningen, you will not be able to summon me, at least not yet, however we have a special connection that should allow you to use my power," Kurama answered.
"That's so cool, can I…"
"That, however, is a conversation for another time ningen," Kurama interjected.
"Currently, we will need to take care of the gnat that dare raise his hand to my vessel," Kurama seethed out slowly, eyes slitting dangerously.
"What do you mean," Izuku asked innocently, head tilting slightly, "are you talking about Kacchan? I don't want to hurt him."
"Do not worry ningen, I won't hurt the gnat, I'm just going to instill a healthy dose of fear into him," she replied, the cheshire cat like grin widening ever so slightly.
Bakugo grinned as his hand came nearer to his target. As it was about the make contact, all the force that was gathered halted, and Bakugo found himself unable to draw his hand back. Looking carefully, Bakugo could only look one as a hand covered in an ethereal glow gripped his wrist tightly. Bakugo followed this hand back to the person he deemed useless, and defenseless, the same person now glaring back at him with slitted emerald eyes.
"What the hel…"
"Look at me gnat," a voice sounding like a mixture of two called out to Bakugo. "You will leave the boy alone, and this will be the last time you pretend to be greater than my vessel," growled out what used to be Izuku.
"Let go of my ha…"
"I will not give anymore warnings," continued Izuku as if Bakugo wasn't struggling against him. "NOW RUN," Izuku's voice boomed, being accompanied by an explosion of the same ethereal force.
"I'll remember this, Deku," Bakugo screamed while turning and running away, his cohorts already ahead of him as they took off well before the display of force from the once defenseless green haired child. As the glow receded, Izuku could be seen blinking a few times as if to get rid of a haze. The boy behind him was wide-eyed staring at Izuku's back in awe.
"Thank you for saving me from them," the child squeaked out while bowing to show his gratitude.
"I-it wasn't that big of a d-deal, it's what any hero would do," Izuku replied smiling a small cheshire cat like grin. Looking down at his hand, Izuku noticed a mark in the shape of a fox's head with nine tails around it. "This power is amazing; I can't wait to see what else I…"
"Ahem, ningen, I believe you mean we."
Izuku jumped slightly at hearing Kurama chime in but shook his head and smiled one more cheshire like grin, "We, Kurama, I can't wait to see what we can do."
"Good," replied the snow-white fox, grinning along with her vessel.
"Good."
