Sitting across from Doctor Kal'tsit right now made Yua feel incredibly small. She wanted to find somewhere to crawl and hide. She felt even more uncomfortable than when she was alone with operator Matterhorn; thankfully, the man had decided to leave when Doctor Kal'tsit had arrived.
The look on Doctor Kal'tsits face was unreadable, just like it had been when they first met, in fact. Looking at her now, Yua thought that Doctor Kal'tsit had come back in time with her as well; the person in front of her looked exactly the same, but the Doctor Kal'tsit she knew was back in her own time, her fate unknown to Yua herself.
Deciding she wanted answers from this young girl, Doctor Kal'tsit asked Yua a question. "Young girl, what is your name?" Yua replied, "Yua, Miss Kal'tsit." Kal'tsit raised an eyebrow at this and thought, "So I am guessing Matterhorn told her my name." Yua knew she had to be careful around Doctor Kal'tsit; she was a woman who always sought knowledge.
Continuing, Kal'tsit asked her another question, "How old are you?" Yua replied to the question, "I am seventeen years old." Once again, another question was asked, "How did you get into the city and why have you come here? The guards were told not to let anyone in." Yua knew she had to be careful with this answer; she was still wearing her uniform from the future and she could not let Kal'tsit know where she was from—it could cause serious problems.
Thinking of an idea she hoped Doctor Kal'tsit would believe, she replied, "I used this uniform that was given to me by my mother after an operator on Rhodes Island saved us. I have heard of all of the good things this company has done; I really want to join." Yua continued, "I know impersonating a Rhodes Island operator is a horrible thing to do, but I didn't know how else to get into the city when I heard you were here." Yua finished.
Looking at the girl's uniform, it was definitely a Rhodes Island uniform, but something just didn't seem right with what she said. Kal'tsit noticed it looked somewhat more technical and advanced than what most operators wore. "I don't believe an operator would just give away a uniform with these sorts of modifications."
Deciding to find out more about the girl's mother, she asked her another question. "Who is your mother and where is she from?" Yua knew she had to be careful with this question as well, so she thought of something that was hopefully believable. "My mother was a woman named Hei. She was a lung like myself, and we both lived in Lungman. She passed away recently due to oripathy." Yua finished.
"I see," Kal'tsit replied. "Why would a lung come all the way out here to Kazimierz?" Kal'tsit thought to herself. "We stop by Lungman enough to give treatment to the infected; she had plenty of opportunities to approach us before." Feeling more skeptical about her story, she continued her thoughts. "Also, this girl says she is a lung, but with that white hair, she looks more like a sarkaz."
Deciding to continue her search for answers, Kal'tsit asked Yua, "Who is your father? Does he know you are here in Kazimierz?" Yua once more had to fabricate something that sounded plausible, so she responded with something that was somewhat true: "My father left me and my mother when I was young; I haven't seen him since, and I don't even know if he is still alive."
Kal'tsit replied to this with a nod, but was thinking to herself "So this girl is saying she has no one, but too many things don't add up with her story, can she be trusted?" Using her poker face to not give anything away to Yua, Doctor Kal'tsit told her, "I will be back in a few minutes. Wait here, please." Kal'tsit got up from her seat and left the tent. When Doctor Kal'tsit left, Yua breathed a sigh of relief; the pressure from that questioning really got to her.
Doctor Kal'tsit walked a bit of a distance away from the tent and entered a heavily shaded area of the camp. When she was certain nobody else was around, she whispered only one word: "Red." Out of the shadows stepped a figure wearing a red hood; this person was a lupo named Projekt Red, a seek-and-destroy specialist.
"What do you need of Red, Doctor Kal'tsit?" the lupo asked. Kal'tsit told her "We will be having a new operator join us soon called Yua, A lung girl from Lungman." Kal'tsit continued "I have listened to her story and parts of it do not add up so I'm not sure she is a danger to Rhodes Island, for now when I have finished my business with her I only want you to observe her." Kal'tsit then added "However, if she is deemed a danger to Rhodes Island I want you to eliminate her, is that clear?"
"Doctor Kal'tsit," Red responded. "Red understands." After this conversation, the lupo disappeared back into the shadows, and Kal'tsit decided to return to the tent to ask Yua to make a decision. Returning to the tent, Kal'tsit saw Yua still in the chair, and she looked nervous. Upon hearing footsteps, Yua jolted up from her seat and turned around to see Doctor Kal'tsit.
When Kal'tsit returned to her seat, she asked Yua one final question, "Are you sure you wish to join Rhodes Island?" Yua replied in a confident voice, "Yes, I do." Kalt'sit simply said, "Then welcome; you can not officially join us yet, however, as we are still in a relief operation. When we are finished, however, you will go through all examinations and then we will make it official."
Her story actually worked! Yua could not believe that Doctor Kal'tsit was letting her join. Feeling elated, she realized she could hopefully complete her mission of preventing her future from happening. A loud growl was then heard from Yua's stomach, and she remembered her hunger from earlier. Noticing this, Doctor Kal'tsit told the girl, "Wait here; I will have someone escort you to the cafeteria." Kal'tsit then got up and left the tent.
Yua did not have to wait long as rustling was heard from the entrance of the tent and a loud voice shouted "Yo! You the kid I'm escorting to get some food." Yua's eyes widened "I know that voice!" Yua realized. When she turned around she was greeted by the sight of a tall green-haired oni woman.
"Miss Hoshiguma!"...
