Mikomi pounded her little gavel. The student council president was wearing the school jacket with the red bow and tartan pleated skirt like most girls present for the Saturday morning meeting. She sat at the head of the table in the large central room with Amatsu to her right and Nijiro on her left. Nijiro, like most guys, was wearing the school jacket, red tie and tan slacks.
The rest of the seats at the table had been claimed by third years. Once again Herikuda had taken the seat directly across from Mikomi. Like Kurumu, the popular girl had foregone the jacket and bow.
To Herikuda's left was Horie Fumiyo, the valedictorian. The shadowy haired girl was Herikuda's childhood friend from Hisomuri. The golden haired girl seated in the next chair was Shiruba Yumie from Okataiyou. These roommates were both on the track team.
The elegant, dark haired beauty sitting between Amatsu and Shiruba was Shikikawa Niji. Shikikawa was a jorougumo from Aranoiji. Okutomo and Hidaka stood behind the former captain of the archery club.
To Herikuda's right was Kosai Mirai, the salutatorian. The short haired ginger was the former captain of the fencing team. Most of her club members in attendance were standing behind her, including Shikichi, Asakira and the Akebara sisters. The sisters were dryads from Shizukana and had rust colored hair. Azami, the older sister, had a ponytail while Kaori had pigtails.
The last two seated at the table were former captains of the band. The guy with the glossy black hair was Sagimori, a tanuki from Aranoiji. The guy with wavy, shoulder length, cerulean hair was Kawakuchi, an undine from Aranami. Naturally he was the one beside Nijiro.
"We will begin this meeting with a rundown of every homeroom, starting with the third years. Please let us know if there are any needs or concerns from your class which must be brought to our attention."
Kurumu stood with Kokoa and Nagisa whom were both wearing school blouses and skirts. Nagisa leaned against Kokoa, still recovering from her blood being taken this morning. Both had schoolbags stuffed with clothes for tomorrow. It was Kokoa's plan to spend most of the weekend in Nagisa's dorm room.
"Third year class one."
Shiruba brightened up with a charming smile.
"Nothing to report, Ms. Sawayaka. Our classroom is fully stocked and everyone is eager to graduate."
Kurumu's eyes drifted over to Moka's location. The vampire stood with her arms crossed, regarding the meeting with no signs of interest. Her collar was left open to bare the black choker about her neck. Next to Moka was Yukari whom was fully dressed for the occasion.
"Third year class two."
"Nothing of interest, Ms. Sawayaka."
Mikomi nodded at Shikikawa's crisp response.
"Third year class three."
Kurumu sighed as Horie spoke up on behalf of her classroom. Kiyoshi had not given the impression that she could just come back for Tsukune later. It had to be this weekend. Moka would have to reschedule her date with Tsukune. It was not her fault.
"Third year class four."
"We're good, Ms. President. Thank you for asking."
Several girls giggled at Okutomo's timid and awkward response. Mikomi smiled as Amatsu recorded the answer in a notebook.
"Third year class five."
A young man with short, golden brown, feathered locks straightened up. That was Utsutei Mikado, former student council vice president. The tengu stood with Nagashima Futoshi, former captain of the male tennis team. The sylph was Utsutei's childhood friend from Koutoukumo. Nagashima had short, strawberry curls.
"Everything is fine with class five."
"Where is Ms. Yoseibi?"
"Taking a campus exam, Ms. Sawayaka."
Kurumu had forgotten about those exams. She was mildly surprised that most of the third year class representatives were present.
"Best of luck to her then. Third year class six."
Herikuda sighed theatrically.
"No shortages but I still have a dire concern."
"Pertaining to what?"
"The school jacket, my dear Ms. Sawayaka. You said we would speak to the new Headmaster about this and the whole week flew by."
"We have been busy, Ms. Herikuda."
"As have I. We can't expect Ms. Akiramochi to do everything herself."
Herikuda gestured at the former dance club partner whom stood behind her. Akiramochi forced a smile, waving at the sudden attention.
Standing with Akiramochi were two more members of the former student council. The girl with the glossy black hair was Komeichi Junko, daughter of the mayor of Aserutani. The guy with the dark, ruffled hair hanging over his eyes was Okumatsu Sen.
The only missing member of the former student council was Kaneshiro Hokuto. She had associated his absence with a desire to avoid confrontation but now she was thinking it might be for an exam.
"We will schedule a meeting with him next week."
"If I don't get an update by Wednesday, I'll do it myself."
Mikomi chuckled along with several others.
"We will try. Third year class seven."
A guy with boxy, black glasses stepped forth from his group. That was Doroishi, former president of the auto club. Like most members of that club, he was a gnome of Touboe. His successor, Jishin, was present and so was Makenuki. The last member of his group was Tsuchiyama's older brother. Like other gnomes, the older brother had glasses. His short, dark hair was styled in a simple side part.
"Nothing to report from class seven. Just a few concerns about the graduation ceremony."
"Yes. We will be talking with Ms. Akiramochi about that after we finish this."
"Very good, Ms. Sawayaka."
"Third year class eight."
Kosai sighed heavily, leaning back in her chair.
"Nothing special from me. Did you schedule that lunch vote assembly for next Saturday?"
"Yes. We won't be having a meeting next week."
"I can't speak for everyone else, but I won't be there."
Several other third years echoed that sentiment, including Herikuda.
"That is unfortunate but we really couldn't put it off."
"Um, I wanted to mention this yesterday but forgot."
Kurumu smiled when attention shifted to her.
"If we do follow Mr. Machida's plan of splitting things up into three lunch hours, there would be a lot less students per lunch hour. I was curious if we would all have to stay in the cafeteria."
Mikomi giggled, fidgeting with her gavel.
"That has been brought up by the cafeteria manager. It's her desire that students must have their meals in the cafeteria or the courtyard. No trays are to be taken into the gyms, library or classrooms. They were only tolerating that because there was no room for everyone in the cafeteria."
Kurumu smirked at a random thought.
"So no romantic lunches on the roof?"
"Nobody is eating on the roof."
Kurumu frowned at Mikomi's aloof dismissal.
"I believe the film club are."
"Cafeteria and courtyard only. I can ask, but I don't see the cafeteria manager wanting someone to run up to the roof to clean up after forgetful students."
"We are getting sidetracked."
Mikomi nodded at Amatsu's comment.
"Yes. Third year class nine."
Kurumu sighed as Tsuchiyama delivered his report for his homeroom. Looking at Amatsu, her thoughts turned to choir matters. They had voted on their songs yesterday. She was happy that they would get to do the Itsuki Lullaby. The other two songs ended up being Hitori and Owari. All new songs this year.
Sagimori was next to speak up as Kurumu's thoughts continued to wander. After choir, she had walked home with Kokoa and Nagisa. Moka had already been home and had made her frustrations known. Kurumu had made dinner and had done her laundry alone since Moka was being petty. She had even slept on a futon behind the couch.
"All good in class eleven, Ms. Sawayaka."
Mikomi nodded at Nagashima's response.
"And third year class twelve."
"I have the same to report as everyone else. We're not going to run out of anything and everyone is just looking forward to graduation."
Mikomi smiled at Kawakuchi's nonchalant remark.
"Then that concludes the third years. Can I have a status report for second year class one?"
"That would be me, Ms. Sawayaka."
The speaker had short, bluish white hair. That was Hayate's fiancé. He had a troublesome last name and called himself the hero of the baseball team because his first name was Hiroto.
"The new classrooms are nice and fully stocked. I don't have a clue if there are any class concerns. I just volunteered for this since we didn't know if Ms. Genzaimuta would show up."
"Is something wrong?"
"Nothing more than before, Ms. Sawayaka."
The answer came from a girl with her black hair pinned back with an arachnid shaped clip. That was Yaisoku Modoka whom was on the tennis team with the girl in question. The jorougumo was standing with other members of the team which included Hiboshi, Mizudake and Genkidzukeru. The lone guy of that group had a natural feathering to his short, chestnut locks. He was a tengu from Hateshinai.
"Yea. She shows up to school more often than not but she did miss yesterday."
"I will check up on her after the meeting."
"Thank you, Ms. Yaisoku. Does your homeroom have any concerns or needs?"
"No, Ms. Sawayaka. Class two is doing fine."
Mikomi smiled as Amatsu jotted down the response.
"Second year class three."
The blond haired Jishin stepped forward with his eyes behind a pair of glasses shaped like a scuba mask.
"We're looking good to make it through the rest of the year. The only concerns I overhear are about the lunch hour changes, yearbook availability and third term exams."
"Your homeroom teachers will be giving out a pamphlet explaining the proposed lunch hour changes later in the week. And I'm hoping that Ms. Okutomo will be able to answer your yearbook questions."
Okutomo flinched when attention shifted to her.
"Um. Yes. What was the question?"
"When will the yearbooks be available?"
Okutomo bit her lip, glancing in the direction of Okumatsu.
"I can't really say, Ms. President. I know that we have collected many order forms."
Okumatsu cleared his throat.
"We will be able to place an order for yearbooks when we have a finished product."
"And when will that be?"
"Mr. Hanabi believes he will have the yearbook layout ready before the last term exams."
Mikomi frowned at his answer to her question.
"But the third years are graduating the week after that."
"I'm aware of that, Ms. Sawayaka. We will have to collect the money for the orders from my fellow third years. When we do that, we will be getting mailing addresses to ship the yearbooks directly to them."
"What about second years?"
Okumatsu turned to address Jishin.
"The order forms from second and first years are just to get a number for the school store. The store will be selling this year's yearbooks to returning students whenever they become available."
"Hopefully that will address your concerns."
"It does, Ms. Sawayaka. Thank you."
"All of you should pass that news on to your peers."
Amatsu nodded at Mikomi's suggestion as several class representatives sounded their understanding.
"This wouldn't be a bad thing to mention in the announcements, Ms. Kurono. We can't expect guests like Mr. Fukisarashi to remember this after a fun filled weekend."
"Hey now. I can't help it that I have an adventurous life."
Kurumu laughed with many others at his lighthearted comment. She was hesitant to admit that she was even more likely to forget about this come Monday morning.
"How is the yearbook coming along, Ms. Okutomo?"
"Very good, Ms. President. We've had over ninety percent of students show up for their pictures."
"Do you foresee any issues that might delay the yearbook's release?"
"Not at this time. We should be able to handle the retakes next Friday as planned. We could even do some the following week if necessary."
Mikomi gestured with her gavel to the group.
"Please remind any of your peers that have skipped pictures to be present on Friday. If not, they will have to arrange something with Ms. Okutomo."
Kurumu chimed in with the rest of the group, acknowledging receipt of this instruction.
"Back to where we were. Second year class four."
"Things are going swimmingly with us. Already looking forward to the next school year."
Amatsu snickered at Mizudake's response.
"We still have a few weeks to go."
"And exams. Second year class five."
"Present, Ms. President. I have nothing to report."
Kurumu suddenly realized why Genkidzukeru was here. The young man shared homeroom with the notoriously irresponsible Udetama. Ueshiba had been covering for Udetama until his untimely demise right before the cultural festival.
"Second year class six."
Machida stiffened up as attention shifted to him. The stocky kappa with his dark hair styled in a crew cut stood alone near the hall leading out to the entrance.
"Our classroom has all the necessary supplies, Ms. Sawayaka. What day of next week will we be getting the proposed lunch hour changes? I get asked about this matter at least six times a day and I have to tell everyone that I'm not in charge of this."
"My apologies, Mr. Machida. I wish that I had an exact day to tell you but I can't say with for certain."
Herikuda clucked her tongue.
"That's no good, Ms. Sawayaka. You need those available before your assembly or you might not get this passed. People don't like being rushed into decisions on the spot."
"I promise that we will have those before the assembly."
"We will push the faculty to provide those on Wednesday. We still need to finalize the pamphlet."
Mikomi smiled graciously at Amatsu's interjection.
"Yes. I will personally write up the proposal today with all the faculty comments."
"I could look over the proposal when you are finished with it. I have nothing else to do this weekend."
"Thank you for the offer, Mr. Machida. But I will be home for the rest of the weekend. I can give you a copy of the draft, first thing Monday morning."
Machida sighed heavily.
"I suppose that will have to do."
"Second year class seven."
Ishikure stepped forward, absently adjusting his green rimmed glasses. Anko and his sister, Iwa, were with him. Iwa's silver tresses were twirled up in a bun secured with a black ribbon. Pink cat eye glasses were perched upon her dainty nose. As the brother gave a standard answer about his class, Kurumu wondered if Moka was going to spend the rest of the day with Iwa's group again.
"Second year class eight."
"Nothing special here. We've already covered the things I wanted answers for."
Mikomi smiled at the older Akebara.
"Good to hear. Second year class nine."
Amatsu giggled, shaking her head.
"Nothing different for my homeroom."
"Second year class ten."
Makenuki puffed up at Mikomi's prompting.
"All is under control. Will the new dorm and homeroom assignments be posted after exam retakes?"
Mikomi glanced at Amatsu whom shrugged. Nijiro straightened up.
"I don't see why not, Ms. Makenuki."
"I was only worried that this lunch proposal might delay that."
"The administration probably doesn't start assigning students to new classrooms until after the final term's exams. And I should add my report of nothing special going on in my homeroom."
Mikomi grinned at Nijiro's statements.
"Thank you. Second year class twelve."
"We don't need any supplies. Other than dealing with Morioka, we have no pressing concerns."
Several students chuckled at Shikichi's report. Mikomi smirked, shaking her head.
"Then we can move on to the first years. First year class one."
Asakira stepped up beside Shikichi, possessing her usual haughty posture and aura.
"Short of sabotage, we shouldn't need any supplies for the remaining year. Some of the girls are curious if we will be getting a larger pool."
"I'm unaware of any such plans."
Kurumu chuckled at Mikomi's remark.
"It's the Unabara twins. They want a competitive swim club."
"That is correct. They have some strange notion that I can do something about that."
Mikomi smiled at Asakira's confirmation.
"We can look into it. First year class two."
"We have no issues with supplies. No concerns have been brought to my attention."
Mikomi nodded at Yukari's report.
"Very good. First year class three."
Hiboshi huffed, crossing her arms below the subtle swell of her bosom. She was one of the few present wearing the sweater vest.
"Same as the others. Are we being issued school swimsuits for when we use the pool in gym?"
"That is a question for your gym teacher."
"We were allowed to bring our own last year."
Mikomi smiled at Amatsu's addition.
"Thank you. I hope that answers your question."
"It does, Ms. Sawayaka. I don't have anything else to talk about."
"First year class four."
"Fully stocked and ready for spring break."
"You act like you didn't just have a long winter break."
Anko huffed at Iwa's comment.
"Some of us were here most of January."
Anko and the other two girls from Iwa's group had third year brothers. The gnomes had been in the one class of returning first years with Kurumu, Yukari and Mikomi.
"First year class five."
Noboru straightened up at Mikomi's remark. He stood with Unsei and Amatsu's cousin, Heniki. Heniki had long, golden blond tresses pulled in a ponytail that nearly reached his waist. The young man had very feminine features and had even shown up to one of these meetings in a dress. Amatsu was to blame for that, somehow convincing her cousin to not deny a halfhearted request from Kaneshiro.
"Class five has no needs or concerns at this time."
"Thank you. My class six is good. First year class seven."
"I have the same report as the others, Ms. Sawayaka."
Mikomi nodded at Unsei's response as Amatsu resumed recording in her notebook.
"First year class eight."
"I don't have anything different to say."
Amatsu looked up at her cousin's statement.
"Ms. Doronuma was in class nine?"
"Yes, Riki."
"First year class nine is next."
Kokoa perked up at Mikomi's prompting.
"Present. We are fully stocked. No concerns have been brought to my attention."
"But there is one matter that I needed you for in regards to Ms. Doronuma."
"Is this about that tribute she wanted to play?"
Amatsu nodded at Kokoa's question.
"It is. I've spoken with Ms. Yubikiri and it is her preference to have no attention drawn to this situation. With that in mind, the student council and faculty will not allow a concert as tribute for Mr. Tassei."
"Not a surprise."
Amatsu smiled thinly, glancing at Herikuda.
"We have to respect her wishes. Could you pass our decision along to Ms. Doronuma?"
"I can tell her. She's my friend."
Kurumu frowned at Nagisa's offer.
"Wait. That's it? No concert?"
"We have to respect Ms. Yubikiri's wishes. That was the faculty's decision."
Kurumu pouted at Mikomi's firm declaration. Amatsu smiled apologetically, picking up her pen.
"We can resume."
"Yes. First year class ten."
Iwa laughed nervously.
"I think we are good. Fine with supplies and no concerns that need the student council's input."
"First year class eleven."
Attention shifted to the stoic vampire standing defiantly beside Yukari.
"Everything is good. Do you want me to speak to Ms. Yubikiri?"
"That won't be necessary, Ms. Akashiya. I can let her know when I see her in the dining hall later today."
Mikomi nodded at Amatsu's promise.
"First year class twelve."
"Same as everyone else. Ready to get out of here."
Mikomi smirked as several students chuckled at the younger Akebara's remark.
"That concludes the reports from the class representatives. Now on to other business. Ms. Akiramochi. What update do you have on the graduation party?"
The sylph held up a stack of papers.
"I have the list of committee members and a few proposals."
"Bring them here."
Akiramochi hurried around the table, presenting the sheets to Amatsu. The blond smiled, setting aside her pen to take the offering. She glanced the top sheet over before handing it over to Mikomi.
"Has Ms. Komeichi seen these?"
"I helped compile the list and the proposals."
Amatsu nodded at Komeichi's answer as Mikomi perused the first sheet.
"Has everyone on this list agreed to be part of your graduation committee?"
"They have, Ms. Sawayaka. Mr. Kogane has promised to enlist the entire kendo club to aid with security if the faculty feels that is necessary. And Ms. Herikuda has been very helpful recruiting others."
Mikomi handed the first sheet over to Nijiro.
"I have no issue with your proposed committee. Your thoughts, Mr. Amesuki?"
Nijiro glanced down the list as Amatsu handed the small stack of sheets to Mikomi. Mikomi murmured her thanks, turning her attention to the sheets.
"I have no objections. I'm assuming that you were fine with this, Ms. Amatsu?"
"Yes. Do you want to look at it, Mr. Ishikure?"
"I only need to know about budget estimates."
Mikomi giggled at his dismissal. She flipped over a few sheets as Nijiro handed the list back to Amatsu.
"I don't see any numbers on any of these proposals."
"We haven't fully decided what each idea would require. We can have those soon."
Mikomi smiled, handing the sheets back to Amatsu.
"Perhaps you should distribute these to the third years. See which ones they would prefer."
"Shouldn't the student coun-"
"An excellent idea, Ms. Sawayaka. That would spare us the trouble of making budget estimates on the ones that have no interest."
Akiramochi frowned, having been cut off by Herikuda.
"I guess that's true. When should we do this?"
"Right away so that we have more time to prepare. We could distribute these proposals in a pamphlet and do a quick poll among the third years."
"I guess we could do that. We'll need to notify the faculty."
Herikuda nodded at Akiramochi's reluctance.
"We can bring it to their attention on Monday. They have no reason to refuse so we should be able to distribute these on Tuesday. We might even have our results back before I get my promised meeting to address the poor quality of our school uniforms."
Akiramochi smirked as Amatsu giggled.
"Your protests are well documented, Ms. Herikuda."
"Get with Mr. Ishikure after you have decided upon which proposal you will go through with. He will give you an idea of what sort of budget we can afford."
Akiramochi managed a smile as she took back the stack of sheets from Amatsu.
"You don't want to look through them?"
"If you are that concerned that some won't be acceptable, you can let us pick between the two ideas with the most support. We will have a meeting the following Saturday."
"Though I won't be here. Choral concert."
Mikomi smiled at Amatsu's comment.
"Yes. Does anyone have any other questions about the graduation?"
"I do but it sounds like we won't have any answers yet. I'll save them for the next meeting."
Herikuda laughed brightly.
"Very wise, Ms. Kosai. Hopefully in two weeks we will know exactly what we are doing."
There was a pause with nobody else speaking up.
"Are there any other concerns that can be addressed by this student council?"
Another moment of silence followed. After a glance about, Mikomi pounded her gavel on the table.
"Then I call this meeting adjourned. Have a good weekend."
Nagisa nudged Kurumu's side as the gathered students started making their way to the exit hallway. Machida and the trio of first year guys were first to leave.
"Are you ready for your lovey dovey date?"
"I hope it will be that way."
Kurumu pranced over to Nijiro, touching his shoulder to get his attention. He glanced at her and smiled.
"Yes, Ms. Kurono?"
She frowned at the formal address. Doroishi and his auto club group were heading out with Kosai and her fencing club behind them. Some of the others were taking a moment to exchange pleasantries.
"Did you have anything planned for today?"
He glanced over to Moka's location. The vampire and Yukari were chatting with Iwa and Anko. Kokoa and Nagisa drifted over to join them.
"I noticed that Mr. Aono did not give the report for his homeroom. Is something wrong?"
Kurumu smiled, seeing Utsutei and Nagashima head out with the rest of the tennis players in tow.
"He had to leave the barrier for the weekend."
"I see. I'm guessing that you want to have our usual double date with Mr. Umizake and Ms. Shirayuki."
Kurumu bit her lip, feeling frustrated. She longed for physical intimacy. But she sensed that he would refuse any suggestion of going to his place right now. Maybe after.
"If you don't mind."
"Then I shall meet you at Ms. Akashiya's suite in about an hour."
Kurumu nodded, withdrawing her hand. She walked away, smiling weakly at Nagisa. The undine smirked, stepping over to join her journey out of the room.
"Trouble in paradise?"
"Iko should have charged more for those comics."
Nagisa snickered as they reached the start of the hall. Kurumu was about to ask if the girl was going to abandon Kokoa when a startled cry kept her attention ahead.
"What is that guy doing here?!"
Intrigued with Hiboshi's incredulous tone, Kurumu hurried down the short hall to reach the gazebo. She stepped down, noting through the windows of the gazebo the object of Hiboshi's concern.
Chatting with Utsutei and Nagashima was Kuyo. The blond kitsune was garbed in the black Fairy Tale uniform and black slacks. Golden tassels and buttons signified his rank of importance. After being kicked out of Mononoke, the former leader of the PSC had been pardoned of his crimes and given the role of prefectural officer of Nagano.
Hiboshi stalked through the door which was held open by Yaisoku. Many of the other departing students gave the trio a wide berth as they walked by.
"You better not be here for my sake."
Kuyo regarded the auburn haired kitsune as she approached with defiance. He shook a box in his hands.
"I am here to return some belongings and chat with Mr. Aono."
Kurumu's heart fluttered. She quickly retrieved her Mary Janes from the slot in the shelf.
"I'll take those!"
She shouted that with her back to him but could feel his gaze. She bent down, buckling each shoe the moment she had it on.
"Oh. Kuyo is here."
Kurumu giggled at Yukari's remark as the witch arrived in the gazebo with Moka and Kokoa.
"Yea. I think he has our things from the prison."
Kurumu trotted over to the door to reopen it. Not bothering to shut it, she hurried over to where Kuyo stood. The two young men remained nearby with Hiboshi standing off to the side, radiating a defensive aura. Yaisoku and Mizudake made their way to the trail while Genkidzukeru lingered indecisively.
"Did you bring everything?"
"I believe so. Check to be certain."
Kurumu took the offered box, bringing it to her chest. She moved aside the top flap, noting the white school blouses and skirts inside. The green school jacket was Yukari's. She reached in to move the fabric about. Rubi's long sleeved blouse with the frilly collar was in here and so was Rubi's black sailor pants.
There were three sets of black lingerie in the box since Rubi had actually worn them that day. Kurumu was glad to have her black boyshorts with the white heart pattern back. She preferred them over the black lace bikini panties that she had been wearing on the weekends.
"Yukari! Your black lingerie has been returned!"
"You did not need to say that aloud!"
Utsutei and Nagashima chuckled as Hiboshi scowled at Kuyo.
"Why do you have a little girl's panties?"
"The prison had them. I'm just returning them."
Kurumu giggled, confirming that her school loafers were in here next to the smaller pair belonging to Yukari. These brown leather boots were Rubi's.
"Where are the earrings?"
"There is a little pouch inside one of the boots."
Kurumu felt around inside the first boot, finding a plastic bag. She tugged the little bag out, seeing the three sets of earring studs. The yellow set was hers while the red set belonged to Rubi. Confirming Yukari's green set was also present, Kurumu dropped the pouch back in the boot.
"It's about time you got this stuff back to us."
"My apologies, Ms. Kurono. Things have been very busy for me. This is the first weekend I've had free since the death of Fujisaki Miyabi."
Kurumu grinned, clutching the box tighter to her bosom. She glanced over her shoulder, noting Yukari and Moka were making their way to her. Nagisa and Kokoa were not much farther behind.
"We just heard about Lord Souken becoming commander of the Chubu region."
"Yes. I have met with the man and approve of his leadership. He might not be stronger than me, but he has many years of experience."
Kurumu smirked, shaking her head.
"You just had to bring that up."
"Are you taking those home or do you want us to?"
Kurumu smiled as Yukari drifted up beside her. Moka was content to keep her distance.
"I may as well. I have to change for my date and wake up Mizore for hers."
Kurumu breathed in deep, returning her attention to Kuyo.
"Speaking of dates, have you ever thought about going on one with your fiancée?"
"Why would he want to do that?"
Hiboshi's angry protest drew Kuyo's gaze.
"I don't have an issue with it. But since the elder council isn't pushing for immediate results, I have no reason to force her to keep me company."
"You had no problem forcing me to be your bride!"
Kuyo turned his gaze away from the fuming girl.
"The council demanded for me to pick a mate. Blame them for approving my choice."
"Since the two of you are destined for marriage, you may as well go on a date."
Kuyo huffed at Kurumu's suggestion.
"I would rather spend my free time sparring with Mr. Aono."
Kurumu winced, glancing at Moka. The vampire rolled her eyes, crossing her arms below her bosom. Managing a smile, Kurumu turned back to Kuyo.
"Well that isn't happening. Tsukune left Mononoke yesterday."
"How is that possible? Only Mr. Nurari, Lord Sendou and Lord Inazuma have keys through the barrier."
"He left with Ms. Kiyoshi. She took him and his mother to see their relatives and won't be bringing them back until Monday."
"She is the succubus agent over the Tohoku region."
Yukari's clarification caused Kuyo's face to lighten up with understanding.
"I see. It seems that my hopes for a rematch have been dashed."
"Isn't it still too early for that?"
Kuyo smirked at Kurumu.
"Perhaps. But win or lose, I wanted a suitable opponent to vent my workplace frustrations upon."
Kokoa sighed dramatically, slowly walking off.
"Well I have no reason to stick around for this."
Kurumu grinned as Nagisa fell in step with the vampire.
"Have fun swimming."
"Is the pool open on weekends?"
Nagisa giggled at Hiboshi's confusion. She shook her head, waving a hand as she retreated.
"We're not swimming in the pool. We have a special place where we go swimming on the weekends."
"Kokoa just wants to try out her new swimsuit and water immunity."
"They don't need to know that."
Kurumu smirked as the pair wandered further away. Smiling warmly, she turned her gaze back to Kuyo.
"I have an idea. I'm already going on a double date with Nijiro, Mizore and Umizake. Since you're already here, why don't you and Hiboshi join us?"
"I have other plans for today."
Kurumu frowned at Hiboshi's quick refusal.
"Doing what?"
Hiboshi flinched. She recovered quickly, turning her nose up.
"None of your business."
Utsutei and Nagashima chuckled.
"I think we are going to take off. Stay out of trouble."
Kuyo scoffed at Utsutei as the three guys started to walk off.
"My job has always been to stop trouble. Staying out of it would be neglecting my duty."
"Come on, Hiboshi. How often do you see your fiancé?"
Hiboshi regarded Kurumu with frustration.
"I have no desire to marry this guy."
"Mizore said the same thing about Umizake but now the two of them are all lovey dovey."
Yukari snickered, shaking her head.
"Yea but Shirayuki isn't stuck with a prepubescent body."
"My body is more mature than yours!"
Yukari flinched at Hiboshi's sharp rebuttal.
"I didn't say mine was. I'm just stating that the two of you going on a date is going to look more like a brother hanging out with his little sister."
"Is there any reason why you are here, Mr. Kuyo?"
Kuyo's attention shifted to Shikikawa. Behind the statuesque girl was Hidaka and Okutomo.
"Ms. Kurono is trying to convince my fiancée to spend time with me."
"Shouldn't you be doing that?"
Moka huffed, stalking off.
"I agree. Kurumu should keep her nose out of things. Come on, Yukari. We're leaving."
Kurumu pouted as the vampire moved briskly for the trail. Yukari took a reluctant step away.
"I don't even know what you two are doing today."
"Nothing serious. My Moka wants to hang out with her new lunch friends."
Kurumu nodded as Yukari turned about. The witch jogged to catch up with Moka whom had already reached the trail.
"Have you properly asked for her company?"
Kuyo sighed at Shikikawa's query. He turned to address Hiboshi.
"Would you be willing to go on a date with me?"
"You heard Ms. Sendou. We won't even look like a couple."
"The council doesn't care about that. They only care that we get along and will fulfill our duty."
Hiboshi blushed with wide eyes.
"We can't be doing that any time soon."
"I'm aware. Are you fine with my company for the day?"
Hiboshi bit her lower lip, glancing at Shikikawa. The older girl nodded, gesturing at Kuyo.
"Will you buy me stuff?"
"Depends on what you ask for."
Hiboshi straightened up, lowering her hands to her sides.
"Fine. I'll accept the invitation to hang out with you and Ms. Kurono."
Kurumu grinned, wondering if the presence of the third year from Aranoiji had been the decisive factor in Hiboshi's acceptance. Whatever the case, she knew this would make things easier on her with Nijiro.
"We're going to have a lot of fun."
"Isn't that the cutest thing ever?"
Nijiro glanced in the direction she pointed with her tiny spoon. Her boyfriend was sporting a sky blue polo with the tan slacks he had on earlier. Somehow just changing a shirt had taken him almost an hour, delaying their departure from Moka's suite until almost eleven.
Thankfully Kuyo had a vehicle, getting them to Mononoke before noon. The Fairy Tale officer shared a table with Hiboshi whom was still wearing her school outfit. He was presenting a spoonful of dessert to the small kitsune. The blushing Hiboshi opened her mouth, allowing him to put it in.
"It doesn't look like she's enjoying that."
Kurumu giggled, sitting across from him at their own table in Lucky's Diner. It was a cozy establishment on the corner of an intersection one block away from the Gates of Heaven. The dining area was filled with tables of different sizes. Bigger ones had up to six chairs but this one was meant for a couple.
"She wouldn't let him do it if she hated it."
Kurumu put her spoon back into the clear container holding her banana split drizzled with chocolate. Wanting to be casual for this date, Kurumu had put on this teal halter top which bared her midriff. Two swaths of fabric crossed as they came down from her neck, holding her breasts firmly enough to not require a bra. Her tight fitting denim bottoms had pockets and buttoned up like shorts, becoming a proper skirt at the crotch level with the pleats coming down to a finger's length shy of her knees.
"I doubt you would want me stuffing things in your mouth."
Kurumu smirked, bringing up a spoonful of dessert to her own lips.
"Depends on what, when and where we are doing such things."
She stuffed her mouth, grinning as she savored the sweetness of her dessert. Nijiro frowned at first but his cheeks turned flush as his periwinkle eyes lit up. He glanced aside with a shake of his head.
"Why must you always go there?"
Kurumu pouted, withdrawing the spoon. She swallowed down her dessert.
"What do you mean?"
"Just finish your dessert."
Kurumu poked at her dessert with her spoon, wondering what she had done wrong now. She glanced over at the table Mizore was sharing with Umizake. The snow girl had scooted her chair over to his side and was leaning against him as they shared a dessert following this late lunch. His arm was draped over her shoulders as he spoon fed her.
Having seen Kuyo's attire, Umizake had decided to wear his PSC uniform to make Kuyo stand out less. From what Kurumu had seen thus far, it was having the opposite effect. Mizore had on a pastel blue, long sleeved dress patterned with white dots. The garment crimped about her waist before flaring out into a ruffled skirt reaching her knees. Her usual striped stockings covered her legs below the skirt.
Placed on their table safely away from their meal was a large stuffed animal. The fluffy, purple creature had many limbs and two glossy black circles that might have been eyes on one end of its cylinder torso. It was hard to say if it was supposed to be a spider.
Kurumu sighed, bringing another spoonful up to her lips.
"It wouldn't hurt for you to be more affectionate with me."
Nijiro leaned back in his chair as Kurumu chewed on the banana chunk.
"I don't know what I should do with you."
Kurumu frowned, quickly swallowing down the sweet morsel.
"You're not still upset over that stupid comic?"
Nijiro grimaced, glancing aside.
"There can't be more than ten girls in the entire school whom have posed nude for somebody."
Kurumu sulked, wondering if that was true.
"It's not like I posed for a guy."
"But guys will see that comic. The last thing I want is to be around you when some guy recognizes you from your work."
Kurumu sighed, poking at her dessert.
"It's probably more than ten. Ms. Ishigami had several girls pose nude for her."
Nijiro barked out a laugh, shaking his head in disbelief.
"So what if it's twenty? None of that artwork is out for sale."
"I'm sorry."
"You're just so needlessly sexual. All of the time."
"I can't help that I'm a succubus."
"It's not about your looks. It's about your attitude."
Kurumu pouted, knowing she had been wrong to allow this to happen.
"I'm just stupid, Nijiro. My friends often tell me that."
"Being stupid doesn't excuse poor behavior."
"But I love you."
He sighed, regarding her with disappointment.
"I don't believe that. You're not even devoted to me."
Kurumu paused, wondering what he meant by that. She could never claim that he was the only person on her mind. She had not even been that obsessed with Tsukune.
"I want to do more for you but I don't know what you want from me."
"You could start by not hanging out with people encouraging you to do stupid things."
Kurumu laughed, supposing she had no objection to that.
"It's not like I see Iko on a daily basis."
"It's not just this Iko girl. You mentioned other girls persuaded you into this."
Kurumu frowned, thinking about Juri and Kana. She had sort of blamed them for talking her into it.
"But Juri and Kana are my friends."
"Not very good ones."
The firmness of his tone discouraged argument.
"Would you prefer me to have lunch with you from here on out?"
A contemplative expression crossed his face as he hesitated to answer. After a long moment, he shook his head with his gaze upon the table.
"No. That would be too much of a hassle."
"You don't want to have lunch with me and don't want me to see you in your dorm."
"You don't behave yourself when you come over to my dorm."
Kurumu bit her lower lip.
"Do you even want me to stay with you over spring break?"
A look of shock touched his eyes.
"I'm not breaking up with you. It's just that guys would harass me if you were having lunch with me. I'll admit that I haven't notified my parents of this plan, but I will write that letter tonight."
Kurumu smiled, feeling slightly reassured.
"Did you want me to buy you something with that money?"
He laughed, shaking his head as he got up.
"No. I wouldn't feel right, allowing that. That money is yours. You should have bought music with it."
Kurumu frowned as he pushed his chair back in place.
"Where are you going?"
"To pay the bill. I'll be right back."
Kurumu managed a smile as he walked off. Her eyes drifted over to Kuyo whom was touching Hiboshi's lips with a napkin. She hated to say it, but it did look more like a big brother spoiling his little sister. With a sigh, she turned her attention back to finishing her dessert. Most of the vanilla ice cream had already melted into a pool at the bottom of the container.
Not wanting to deal with a busy lunch hour, their first stop had been the music store. Kuyo had been surprised to see Tashikana there. The two had a civil conversation while Hiboshi perused the shelves to find two CDs that he had promised to buy her.
Once that was finished, they had crossed the street to kill some time at the arcade. That was where that silly stuffed animal had come from. Mizore and Umizake had racked up so many tickets in skee ball that the man behind the counter had simply surrendered the biggest prize he had on the shelf.
Since both Lucky's Diner and the Raw Deal were still busy, they had decided to play a game of mini golf at the Sinkhole. Kuyo had graciously paid for the game. Kurumu was still the lousiest at golf but she did get to chat a little with the attendant, Ms. Kibaguchi.
The Sinkhole was owned by Mr. Higa. He had bought it from the Ito family back in 92, since they were going to close it down over the lack of business. He had been the manager of that convenience store for twenty five years. All three of his kids had already left Mononoke before the fire so the place was sort of like a hobby for his retirement.
Kurumu scraped the last chunks of banana out of her container, stuffing the full spoon into her mouth. She sighed as she chewed slowly, resting the spoon back in the container. She watched Nijiro make his way back to her from the counter where a burly man worked stood behind a register.
"So what else do you have planned for this date?"
Kurumu smirked as Nijiro tugged his chair back to take a seat.
"Nothing. I'm letting Hiboshi dictate where we go."
"I'm still surprised that today was the first time Mr. Kuyo has played a video game."
"And I'm surprised that Umizake is good at skee ball. It's like there isn't anything he's bad at."
"I wouldn't say he was good at video games."
Kurumu shrugged, grinning as Kuyo got up from his chair. Hiboshi picked up her bag from Spinning Discs as her fiancé walked over to the register to pay the bill.
"It looks like our escorts will be joining us soon."
"Will I ever be enough for you?"
Kurumu frowned at him.
"Of course you are."
His smile was dubious as he patted his hands on the table.
"I feel like you have bigger aspirations than the simple life I want."
"Nijiro. I don't have a clue what to do with my future. Being with you would make me happy."
"Would it?"
Kurumu managed a smile, turning her attention to Hiboshi and Kuyo as they approached.
"Did you have fun on your lunch date?"
Hiboshi's cheeks were still flush as the kitsune brought her bag of goods against her bosom.
"It was more awkward than I expected."
Kuyo stopped next to her, standing stiffly.
"It was your request to have that done."
Hiboshi's face turned a darker red. She gestured over at Mizore's table.
"It's no different than what those two are doing. You shouldn't have any objections."
"I wasn't objecting."
Kurumu grinned, hoping that her whims had nothing to do with Hiboshi's willingness to be around Kuyo. There was always the possibility that she could subconsciously push people together.
"Are you two getting to know each other better?"
"I know plenty about my fiancée, Ms. Kurono. Like how her mother is a half breed and was sullied by Lord Chiki. It was why I picked her."
Hiboshi grimaced, fidgeting with her bag.
"He was thinking they would reject it."
"True. But Elder Kenmei reassured the council that my choice was good and would restore your family honor. I didn't anticipate his endorsement."
Kurumu smiled, thinking about the former commander of the Chubu region.
"He was a good man, looking out for you both."
"I barely knew that old codger. He sold me for breeding. I've hated him forever."
Kuyo glared at the indignant girl.
"If anyone was compensated for this arrangement, it was your parents. Elder Kenmei had nothing to benefit from this."
Nijiro chuckled, getting up from his chair once again.
"It seems like the two of you get along as much as my parents do."
Kuyo remained silent and impassive as Hiboshi continued to fuss with the bag.
"I don't mind it if he buys me things. I've wanted Mizuki Nana's fourth album for months and you can't really go wrong with an album from Hamasaki Ayumi. I'm sure this new one is as good as her others."
Sensing they would be leaving soon, Kurumu slipped out of her chair and pushed it back in place.
"I still find it funny that you like pop music."
"This coming from someone with no taste for music at all."
Kurumu pouted at the retort.
"Music wasn't important to the kids in Kengamine. I'm starting to get a few CDs."
"Mostly from Mr. Children."
Kurumu stuck her tongue out at Nijiro, leaning down to grab the strap of her lavender purse.
"I have one CD from Utada Hikaru."
"It seems we are finished here. What would you like to do next?"
Kuyo's remark prompted Kurumu to look in Mizore's direction as she straightened up. The couple shared a quick kiss before Umizake started off at a brisk pace. The snow girl retrieved the stuffed critter from their table as Kurumu fixed the strap of her purse upon her shoulder.
"It isn't a proper date without a movie."
"More human nonsense."
"You'll have to get used to it."
Kurumu giggled at Hiboshi's response to his distaste. Kuyo sighed heavily as Mizore joined them.
"I suppose that I can humor your request."
"It's not like you are suggesting any alternatives."
"You wouldn't be interested in anything I would prefer doing."
"Like what?"
"Something competitive. Not these silly games that humans participate in because they are too feeble for anything resembling real challenge."
"The council demands us to marry but that doesn't mean we have to spend the rest of our lives in Aranoiji. There's absolutely nothing to do there. I would rather live with the humans you so openly despise. At least I wouldn't die from boredom."
"I have no desire to live in Aranoiji either. Once you graduate, you may come live with me."
Hiboshi blushed with wide eyes.
"You better mean graduate from college."
"Of course. That body of yours won't be mature enough in two years to fulfill the council's expectations."
Hiboshi turned a deeper shade of red.
"Do you seriously want to put a baby in me?"
Kuyo frowned at her hissed inquiry.
"That is what the council expects. We should at least have one child to fulfill our duty to them."
Hiboshi shivered, turning her back on him.
"Well. That is years from now so you'll probably change your mind."
"Doubtful. Are you ready to go, Mr. Umizake?"
Umizake shrugged as he strolled over to Kuyo's side. He was notably shorter than the kitsune.
"Yea. Where are we headed next?"
"The theater. My fiancée wishes to see a movie."
Umizake nodded, beckoning for Mizore. The snow girl hurried to his side, letting him drape an arm over her shoulder. Kuyo took this as a sign to start for the door.
"What am I expected to do in a movie?"
Kurumu giggled as she fell in step alongside Nijiro, following Kuyo.
"Have you never been to a movie before?"
"We lack such a facility in Aranoiji, Ms. Kurono."
Hiboshi huffed as they made it to the door. Kuyo held it open, allowing her to exit first.
"Aranoiji is a horrible place to live. I had to go to Watasora for any semblance of civilization."
"Nonsense. We had electricity and indoor plumbing."
Kurumu giggled at Kuyo's remark, stepping outside with Nijiro at her side. She breathed in deep, noting the other three buildings in this intersection. As far as she knew, they were all closed and abandoned. She offered her hand to Nijiro and was relieved when he took it. They started down the street, following Kuyo and Hiboshi.
"I wonder whom owns Lucky's Diner."
"Probably Lucky."
Kurumu pouted at Nijiro's quick answer.
"Nobody would name their child Lucky."
"It is owned by Mr. Otani. He lives in one of the first homes you pass by in the new subdivision."
Kurumu perked up at Kuyo's answer.
"You know the owner?"
"I lived here for a decade. I picked up a few things."
Kurumu nodded, noting the Lickity Split confectionery on the left. The white building was almost directly across the street from a dentist.
"Did you live in an apartment?"
"I lived in faculty housing. I had the unit next to Ms. Yoshino."
Kurumu knew what he was talking about though she had no idea which unit that was. Coming from the school, the faculty housing complex was to the left of the first intersection after passing by the hospital on the outskirts of town.
They were already near the next intersection. The squat, single story building on the near right corner was Bottomless Bowls. The two story across the street from it was the Raw Deal. The aroma of food greeted them as they steadily approached.
"Do you know how to cook?"
"I know how to burn things."
Kurumu snickered as they started to drift left. On the other side of this intersection was a three story building which was too maintained to be abandoned. The occupancy of the other was up for debate.
"You must have ate out often."
"Yes. Charcoal and ash were not agreeable with my stomach."
Hiboshi giggled as they turned left at the intersection, heading towards the theater.
"Seems we know why you knew the owner of that restaurant."
"I frequented many of the eating establishments over the years."
Kurumu thumbed at the Raw Deal as they passed by it.
"Do you know whom owns the Raw Deal?"
"That would be Mr. Sanya. He claims his restaurant is the oldest in town."
Kurumu frowned, glancing back at the structure. It looked no older than the buildings about it.
"Really? I would think something like Rice & Spice would be older."
"Rice & Spice is owned by Mr. Hasahiro. The building is older but it was owned by someone else."
Kurumu nodded thoughtfully, noting the large community center building coming up on the right as they neared the next intersection. Across the street from it was the theater.
"What about the Sunrise Cafe?"
"I think we can stop with the interrogation. You don't need to know everything about this town."
Kurumu pouted at Nijiro's remark. She was only trying to pass the time with idle conversation.
"Do you think those mermaids are still holed up in the community pool?"
"Maybe. I understand that only four of the third years showed up for their yearbook photos."
They crossed the intersection, drifting slightly to the right as they continued down the street. Hiboshi wagged her finger at one of the posters mounted to the wall.
"Arashimideru told me good things about this Uchouten Hotel movie."
Kurumu smirked as they drifted to a stop near the doors. She let go of Nijiro's hand.
"I'm a little surprised that girl went to a movie."
"Why would you be? She saw it with her cousin last Friday."
"Is that the one you want to watch?"
Hiboshi nodded at Kuyo.
"Yea. It's supposed to be good."
"I'll go check the showing times."
Nijiro trotted over to the door, holding it open for Kuyo. The two slipped inside.
"You know those cousins might end up being one of our doubles next year."
Kurumu frowned at Hiboshi's declaration.
"I thought Kazehime was going to be with that Kanri guy."
Hiboshi sighed dramatically, glancing at the couple whom had remained outside with them.
"It's hard to tell right now. Ms. Genzaimuta is unreliable and might even quit. If she does return, I can't see Coach Yaisoku letting her be someone's partner."
"You think she'll quit?"
"I think there is a good chance that she doesn't come back to Yokai Academy next year. She literally can't be around Mr. Soratani. For all we know, he might also quit the club."
"What will happen with Shiname?"
The door opened, drawing their attention back to Nijiro. He remained in the door.
"The next showing of Uchouten Hotel is at four. That's a little more than an hour from now. Do you still want to see it?"
"Absolutely. We can do some shopping to kill some time."
Nijiro nodded, ducking back inside. Kurumu managed a smile, looking back at Hiboshi.
"I'm still curious what your team plans to do with Shiname."
Hiboshi sighed heavily, shaking her head.
"I have no idea. Our season doesn't start until after summer break. That's months away. I'm only hoping that I actually get to compete this year."
Kurumu smiled thinly. Hiboshi's short stature made it difficult for her to be competitive.
"How old do you think your body is now?"
Hiboshi sighed again, slouching her shoulders.
"This body is at least eleven now. I might still be shorter than you when the season starts."
They stood in silence for a short while. The doors to the theater opened up, bringing some relief when Kuyo and Nijiro stepped out.
"I have acquired the tickets for all of us. Where do you wish to go shopping?"
Hiboshi started off in a huff.
"I'm thinking jewelry. This way."
Kurumu giggled, offering her hand to Nijiro which he took. They walked back in the direction of the intersection with the community center.
"Thank you for paying for our tickets."
"No trouble, Ms. Kurono. I have more money than I will ever need."
"Good. Then you won't have any issue buying me something really expensive."
Kuyo snorted as they drifted right, intending to turn that direction at the intersection.
"I will think about it."
"Maybe you could buy her some clothes."
"Absolutely not! There is no reason for him to buy nice clothes for this childish body. At least jewelry would look good on me for years to come."
Kuyo chuckled as they followed the proud little kitsune.
"As you wish."
The silver sedan pulled into the parking lot behind the Kurai dining hall. Most of the vehicles for the staff were gone but the lights were on, suggesting someone was still cleaning up. The small structure for the dance club stood off to the right of the lot, seeming to enlarge as Kuyo's vehicle approached the end of the lot. The stars dotted the sky as he steered the sedan into a vacant parking space. Clouds attempted to cover the bright half-moon as he put the car in park.
"I believe that this concludes our evening together."
The two hour movie had been rather interesting. It was not exactly a romance story. It was more of a little bit of everything. A slice of the lives of a bunch of different characters gathered at a hotel on New Year's Eve. Lots of laughs mixed in with serious moments. She had thoroughly enjoyed it.
It had been nearly seven when they stopped to have dinner at the Ichiban which Kuyo had informed her was owned by Souma Kenji. Souma was a pureblood shinigami whom Kuyo held much respect for. It was Kuyo's favorite restaurant and he had no issues treating them to the most expensive meals on the menu. It had taken almost an hour to get their food but it had been well worth it.
"Thank you, Mr. Kuyo."
Mizore was first to open the door, sitting in Umizake's lap to the left of Kurumu in the back seat of the sedan. The snow girl slipped out of the car as Nijiro opened up the passenger front door. Mizore gestured at Umizake and he grabbed the stuffed critter, handing it over to her before getting out.
Kurumu grinned, noting the box that had been at Umizake's feet. It was the box he had brought them but she had changed the contents this morning. Now that box contained Elder Kenmei's Fairy Tale uniform. They had not been able to give that to Kuyo on his last brief visit to Yokai Academy.
"You should give your fiancée a proper farewell."
Kuyo glanced back at Hiboshi as Kurumu opened the door behind him.
"What sort of farewell would be proper?"
Hiboshi huffed, grabbing up her two bags that had been at Kurumu's feet.
"Don't ask me. It's her idea."
Kurumu giggled, exiting the vehicle as Nijiro and Umizake closed their doors.
"A kiss wouldn't be bad."
"He's too tall for a kiss!"
"Agreed. An embrace?"
Hiboshi sighed heavily, scooting over to the door that Kurumu held open.
"I guess. You'll have to get out of the car."
Kurumu giggled as Hiboshi exited. She closed the door as Kuyo opened his. She turned to Hiboshi, gesturing for the girl.
"Give me your things. You'll need your arms free."
Hiboshi grumbled, surrendering her two bags to Kurumu. One had her CDs while the other had a pair of diamond earrings and a golden necklace with a diamond studded flower pendant. The small kitsune stalked over to Kuyo, holding her arms out. He chuckled, grabbing her by the shoulders and pulling her in. She turned her face, pressing her cheek to his chest.
"We should have taken pictures of your date."
Hiboshi huffed, pulling away from Kuyo but leaving her hands at his waist.
"It's not like anybody whom saw us would think we were a couple."
Kuyo smiled which happened seldom. He placed his hand on Hiboshi's head.
"It was enjoyable. I wouldn't mind doing it again."
Hiboshi batted his hand away, glaring up at him.
"I guess you'll have a nice report to take back to the council that wants to breed us."
"Indeed. When should I come and see you again?"
Hiboshi faltered at his simple acceptance of her words. She drifted back a step, bringing her hands up to her bosom. She shyly glanced aside.
"You should come after graduation. I'll require your assistance to move my furniture when we get our new dorm assignments."
"A suitable reason for me to be here. I shall see you then."
Kuyo turned about, stepping back to his sedan. Kurumu drifted over to Hiboshi's side as he lowered down to sit in the driver's seat.
"We'll be sure to get your fiancée home safely."
Kuyo glanced at Kurumu as he reached for the door.
"I doubt that she needs protection."
Kurumu giggled, placing a hand on Hiboshi's shoulder.
"Maybe not but the fools that try to accost this adorable girl might need it."
Hiboshi pulled away from her with a scowl.
"Don't touch me."
"Good night, Ms. Kurono."
"One more thing, Kuyo."
He paused with his hand on the door.
"Could you possibly pick up a yunomi from Nagano for me?"
Nijiro let out an abrupt laugh, standing out in the grass with Mizore and Umizake.
"Are you seriously trying to add more to your collection?"
"It doesn't hurt to ask."
"I'm curious as to why you would want such a thing."
Kurumu grinned at Kuyo.
"I've been collecting a yunomi for every prefecture I've set foot in. Most of them have the prefectural flag on them but my Tokyo one has Tokyo Tower on it."
"I'll see what I can do."
"But don't do a landmark for Nagano. I only got the Tokyo Tower because I was actually there. Just a yunomi with the prefectural flag would be fine."
"Of course, Ms. Kurono. Anything else?"
"I have one thing."
In the span of a heartbeat, Hiboshi appeared at his side and pecked his cheek. She pulled back, looking into his startled eyes.
"That's fair, right. We're even."
He turned his head aside with a smirk.
"You are overvaluing that kiss."
Hiboshi pouted, backing away so that he could close the door.
"Well I can't give you more than that so it will have to be enough."
"Agreed. I'll see you at graduation."
He closed the door, denying further conversation. Kurumu gestured for Hiboshi to follow her as she made her way off the gravel of the parking lot. Once they were clear, Kuyo put the car in reverse and backed out of the parking space. Shifting gears, the silver sedan turned away from them and sped towards the one road which wrapped all around the town before ending at the tunnel near the bus stop.
"So, Hiboshi. Was that kiss just for the council?"
Hiboshi scowled, swiping her bags out of Kurumu's hands.
"It was for the gifts!"
Grinning, Kurumu fixed the strap of her purse further up her shoulder.
"Of course it was."
"Shut up!"
Laughing, Kurumu held her hand out to Nijiro. She was glad that he took it.
