Fireworks of My Heart - What They Left Out - Ep 43
Following a successful event for Guo Kun Group Meng Yan Chen approaches the two event coordinators.
Meng Yan Chen: I would like to thank both of you for your diligent hard work and into making this event my signature into my role as Chairman of the Guo Kun Group.
Zhai Miao: We thank you for having confidence in us… Ye Zi and I still have much to learn but you can rest assured that we will do our best.
Ye Zi: We will improve with each coming event… thank you for giving us the opportunity.
Meng Yan Cheng: Both of you worked very hard … I noticed that neither of you had time to eat…. Can I show my appreciation by taking you both out to dinner?
Zhai Miao: Thank you for the invitation but, I have another commitment to attend to….
Miao looks to Zi with the look you're on your own and Ye Zi responds
Ye Zi: looks like your stuck with just me… but under the circumstances you can take back your invitation.
Meng Yan Chen: If your still uncomfortable being with me…. I understand…. But I hope that your not.
Ye Zi remains exceptionally quiet as Meng Yan Chen drives them to a nice restaurant
Meng Yan Chen: would you like some wine ….. you appear very nervous.
Ye Zi: Isn't this awkward for you since I'm the one that tried to frame you?
Meng Yan Chen: I've had much time to reflect on that incident….. I was a real jerk wasn't I?….. You din't set out to do what you did that night….. did you?
Ye Zi: I was very foolish back then ….. I believed if I was nice to you….. you would look past that wall that surrounds you …. But I was very naive….. A person like you couldn't possibly see a person like me.
Meng Yan Chen: Why wouldn't I see a person like you… you're a go getter…. How many part time jobs were you dong to survive…. The day of the big rain seeing you standing in that down pour and directing traffic left a profound impression on me. You weren't a scammer or one of those bar girls that would throw themselves just for money.
Ye Zi: You surprised me by helping that pregnant couple get to a hospital…. Did she have the baby and was everyone was safe?
Waiter brings them two steak dinners and fills both of their wine glasses
Meng Yan Chen: Can I propose a toast….. to new beginnings.
Ye Zi: This is the first time I've seen you smile…. You have a nice smile you should do it more often.
Meng Yan Chen: I haven't had many reasons to smile… even though most would think that I should be smiling all the time due to my position in life…. But that's not the case….Being a Meng I was expected to be perfect…. Qin and I were expected to be perfect obedient children that listen to everything our parents expected of us.
Ye Zi: Your sister seemed so happy at her wedding… anyone can see the love she has for her husband.
Meng Yan Chen: From the time Qin came to our house…. And my parents decided to adopt her… I thought that she would always be with me…. She was my closest friend and confidant….. but once Song Yan entered the picture … Qin found her refuge away from my mother's rules and discipline. When she was with Song Yan she was completely different . I was jealous but I envied her.
Ye Zi: but you're the son …. Anything you wanted was yours…. Girls on the other hand have to accept whatever the men decide…. I didn't want that… I wanted my own life. So you were a momma's boy.
Meng Yan Chen: You can say that…. My mother ruled with an iron fist… even my father subjugated himself to her will… it wasn't until recently that Qin found the courage and just broke away… Song Yan was that important to her to ever leave him again. My mother finally got to see what type of man Song Yan was when he rescued her from her trapped car…. Now he has become her favorite person.
Ye Zi: so changes can occur if only you let them.
Meng Yan Chen: that's why I want you to become my Song Yan…. You still like me ….. don't you?
Ye Zi: you crushed my heart that night….. I don't know if I can ever trust my heart to you again.
Meng Yan Chen: Can we start again…. Not as my bar girl… driver… but as my friend….. being with you and just talking to you makes me feel worthwhile…. Ye Zi … I need you in my life
Hearing those words " I need you in my life" makes Ye Zi's heart start fluttering …. Her attraction to him hasn't gone away. Her mind flashes a scene in her head whereby she reaches across the dinner table and grabs his tie and pulls him in to give him a passionate kiss making her tingle throughout her body.
Meng Yan Chen seeing this blank look on her face : Ye Zi are you alright ? You look like you went to a faraway place.
Ye Zi gets her composure back: I'm sorry… What did you say?
Meng Yan Chen: you drifted away …. I was just wondering if you're alright?
Ye Zi: I'm sorry…. This has been a long day… I must be tired?
Meng Yan Chen: Do you want me to take you home
Ye Zi: You don't have to … I can take a taxi.
Meng Yan Chen: You're tired ….. I can't let you do that.
During the drive to her little one room apartment Ye Zi can't get that vision out of her head of her wanting to kiss him.
Xu Qin spends several days contemplating how to tell Song Yan of the conversation she had with his real mother….. She calls Mother and Father Zhai to confide in them.
Xu Qin: Mother…. Something very strange happened to me on the day I found out I was pregnant… All my happiness came crashing down when this distraught woman came in to talk to me
Mother Zhai : Nothing happened to my grandchild did it?
Xu Qin: what do you know of Song Yan's real mother?
Mother Zhai: why would you bring up that woman ?
Father Zhai: Give her a chance to finish what she wants to ask…. Daughter… tell us what happened.
Xu Qin: This lady came in claiming to be Song Yan's mother and asked if I would help her in letting her speak to Song Yan one more time.
Mother Zhai: That evil woman… even though she is my sister… she's always been one that is only interested in herself…. She made her choice …. Now she needs to live with it…. I won't let her hurt Song Yan again.
Father Zhai: what exactly does she want
Xu Qin: she said she wants one last chance to apologize to him for all the wrongs she did to him….. she looks like a hopeless pathetic case , but Song Yan is finally happy and I don't want to disturb that for him…. But she says she is dying and wants to see her son one more time. Tell me what to do ….. Please.
Father Zhai: If Song Yan were still little I would say not say a word, but Song Yan is an adult that faces crucial decisions everyday whereby he has peoples lives at his disposal…. He deserves to make his own decision….. You need to tell him… if he were ever to find out that you kept that decision from him he would be very mad at you. ….. daughter you have no choice but to tell him.
Mother Zhai: As much as I hate to say it ….. my logical ever correct husband is right….. let us know how he is feeling after you tell him
Xu Qin rushes home and prepares Song Yan's favorite dish for dinner
Song Yan: What's the occasion?…. You didn't even prepare this dish the night you told me of our baby…. What's up?
Xu Qin: Sweetheart… I've been so troubled and tense because of it…. Can we make love first to help me calm down and you will be in a good mood when I do tell you.
Song Yan: Qin… honey…. Just tell me ….. I don't want to be thinking of what you're going to tell me while we're making love… neither one of us would enjoy that.

Xu Qin: I struggled with the decision to tell you….. but Father Zhai made me realize that you needed to make the choice…..Song Yan… Honey… Whatever you want to do … I will be by your side…. What's going through your mind right now?
Song Yan: What does she want from me?….. money…. Does she think that since your a Meng …. She can get money from you?
Xu Qin: The woman I saw with you all those years ago when we went to look for her ….. we got a glimpse of how her life turned out…. Her drunken husband beat her and his son ridiculed her….. the woman that came to me is a person that's lost everything…. After seeing you in the news and all your heroics …. Song Yan: What would you do if this was your mother…. Your mother killed your father and then herself with that fire.
Xu Qin: All my fears and insecurities resulted from that last look my mother gave me… when she said I'm sorry…. Often wondered what was going through her mind that brought her to make the decision she made… back then I was to afraid to say anything…. But if she was in front of me here and now… I would have the courage to ask …. Why did you do it?
Song Yan: We both know that answer when it comes to this woman….. Money was the solution to all her woes… I meant nothing to her back then.

Li Meng: I'm no longer assigned to a fire station….. but when I started I did so... I completely understand what families of firefighters go through every time a major fire occurs. Li Meng asks to see Chief Gao
Li Meng: Sir I need to share some news with you… I know you have frond upon office romances since they often disrupt the discipline required to run a cohesive unit….I agreed with you for the most part….. However, now that I've accepted Instructor Jiang Yu marriage proposal... I'm conflicted.
Chief Gao: When did this happen?….. Take pride in knowing what is happening under my command….. but I never saw this coming….. I always knew that you favored Captain Song Yan, but Instructor Jiang was never in my radar. ….. What are you asking ?
Li Meng: Should I hand in my resignation… since I can't give up Jaing Yu
Chief Gao: Firefighters lot in life is hard enough with all the sacrifices that we ask them to make to protect this city and it's citizens… If you two were working in the same station… I would require one of you to transfer to another unit…. But you're here as a staff officer and Jiang Yu will be at Shilitai Station I don't see a problem. Did you two break the rules during those two weeks together
Li Meng: No sir ….. Jiang Yu and I acted very professional … we hadn't yet confessed our feelings for each other.
Chief Gao: Congratulations….. when is the wedding?
Li Meng: hopefully soon.
Chief Gao: What is it with the Shilitai Station…. They are the best run station and now both of the commanding officers have found love and happiness…. Officer Li …. I expect a report on my desk to see if what goes on at Shilitai can be done at other stations.
Li Meng: Yes sir… I'll do my best… Thank you sir.
The Conversation at Shilitai Station
Jiang Yu: Captain….. can we have a private conversation?
Song Yan: Of course …. Is there a problem that I need to know about?
Jiang Yu: Nothing like that….. this is more personal.

The ears of Yang Chi and Pi Shao could not help overhearing and immediately spread the word around the station
Song Yan: Married …. To whom…don't tell me you agreed to one of your mother's blind dates?

Time Jump of 5 months
Xu Qin is visibly very pregnant but she is still insistent on working. Song Yan continues to struggle with appearing before his mother even though he routinely views her from afar.
Li Meng wishes that she and Jiang Yu simply would've gotten their marriage certificate and told everyone that they were married. The ordeal of a wedding ceremony imposed by both her mother and mother in law is not what she had envisioned.
Fu Wen Ying keeps insisting that Meng Yan Chen bring this mystery woman that he has been seeing.
Fu Wen Ying: Yan Chen … when are you going to introduce us to this woman that you've been seeing…. Don't say that you're not.
Meng Yan Chen: Mother… please respect my privacy.
Fu Wen Ying: Is it that she doesn't want to meet us….. I don't understand your thinking… Your sister is about to deliver our first grandchild….. is it wrong of me to not see one from you ?
Meng Hai Jin: Wen Ying stop putting pressure on him…. He must have his reasons… Son whom ever this girl is she seems to have had a good effect on you… so do as you see fit….. my sources have been telling me you've taken control of the company… the way you envisioned….. keep up the good work.
Meng Yan Chen brings up this conversation up with Ye Zi
Ye Zi: Yan Chen….. you're not seriously thinking about introducing me as your girlfriend to your parents… look it's taken us this amount of time for both of us to even being comfortable being together like this….. your mother would never accept me so why should I put myself through that ordeal.
Meng Yan Chen: It doesn't matter what my mother thinks….. after this amount of time are we at boyfriend…. girlfriend status? ….. if we're not what else do I need to do to get us there?
Ye Zi: You're so regimented everything has to go according to a plan? … where did that get us….. I like you… I don't know why but I do…. But, I'm still that moth … I won't ever turn into a butterfly.
Meng Yan Chen: Moth or butterfly….. that doesn't matter to me….. I just know I'm very comfortable with you…. I want you by my side all the time…. I need you by my side so I don't return to that black hole I put myself.
Ye Zi: So I've become your security blanket…. Yan Chen…. All children grow out of their security blanket stage….. where does that leave me when you grow out of it? I know you're trying very hard to be what you think I want… but that's not how a real relationship forms….. I want what your sister Qin and Miao's brother Yan achieved….. they went through every hardship and misunderstandings to find a love that will remain with them.
Meng Yan Chen: Do you like me enough to try to get there?
Ye Zi: If I didn't … Do you think I would be here? … Let's take it day by day and not force it.
Shilitai Fire Station
The Fire alarm rings and all the fire fighters jump into action… Instructor Jiang informs Captain Song the location of the fire. Once they arrive Song Yan realizes this is the building his mother lives in. Song Yan takes the lead only to be stopped by Jiang Yu
Jiang Yu: Captain… stay back this time… you're going to be a father soon… I promised Qin to stop you from taking any unnecessary risks. We can handle this.
Song Yan: I can't … my mother is in there…. I will never forgive myself if I let something happen to her.
Song Yan instructs all the firefighters to the critical areas of the fire … he takes Liu Jun Ping for his back up as they arrive at his mothers little apartment which is engulfed in smoke and flames. With hand signals they maneuver through the smoked filled room until they find the woman hovered in a corner passed out . Song Yan rushes to her and placed his oxygen mask on her face.
Song Yan: Mother…. I'm here… don't leave me now? …. Jun Ping call for an ambulance
Song Yan places his mother on his back and carries her through the flames and smoke.
Jiang Yu : Go to the hospital with her …. I'll finish up everything here
Qin is at the hospital emergency entrance as her husband helps the emergency medics take his mother in.
Xu Qin: Sweetheart…. Are you Ok? ….. I'll take it from here.
Song Yan : Qin save her…. Why was I so stubborn?
Xu Qin: I'll do everything I can… I promise you.
Even though Qin is no longer in the ER …. She takes the lead in trying resuscitate Song Yan's mother. After several hours of treatment the woman's eye open and smiles at Qin
Song Yan's Mother: Can I see my son?
Qin nods her head and goes to get Song Yan
Song Yan: Qin is she alright?
Xu Qin: She's awake and asked to see you… but she's in critical condition… the smoke compounded the already deteriorated state of her lungs…. I'm sorry sweetheart.
Song Yan and Qin walk back into the recovery room….. Song Yan's mother's eyes widen and a smile graces her face.
Song Yan's Mother : Come closer so that I can see you clearly…. She grabs his hand and tears form in her eyes: Song Yan ….. I'm so sorry for being the mother that I was… you have every right never to forgive me….. but thank you for letting me see you again. My sister raised you to be a decent loving man and you found such a beautiful loving wife.
Song Yan: The past is in the past…. No need to dwell on it… the only thing that matters is the future…. He places her hand on Qin's belly…..Meet your grandson.
Song Yan's Mother: with parents like the both of you he should grow up to be a fine young man. …. Qin… Thank you for granting me my final wish ….. Song Yan….. I never stopped loving you….. I hope you can believe that. … Her breathing becomes more difficult and she closes her eyes and within minutes she takes her last breath of life.
Qin grabs her husband and hugs him tightly: I'm so sorry sweetheart that I couldn't do anymore.
Though she led a life of pain and misery Song Yan found it in himself to return her to the man that did love her even with all her faults. He buried her next to his father so that maybe in their next life they can have what they didn't in this life.
With the baby's arrival date fast approaching…. . Song Yan convinces Qin that she goes on maternity leave….. not taking any chances of him not being at his son's birth … he too takes a maternity leave so that he is with Qin at all times. However , nothing goes as planned for this couple…. Qin wanted to see the vast array of fireworks which were to be on display at night in Ningbo… She convinces Song Yan to take her to their roof top where they can see the entire night sky light up. Once the fireworks begin to explode Qin finds herself also ready to explode…. Her water breaks and her contractions are so that she can't get down the roof stairs. Song Yan quickly assesses the the situation and calls Jiang Yu to bring a pediatrician from the hospital along with the firetruck to help deliver their baby on the roof top.
The fire fighters of Shilitai station have practices many drills but this is their first in having to deliver a baby from a rooftop. Song Yan does his part and brings blankets and towels up to the roof top as he patiently waits for his crew to come to their rescue.
Once the Pediatrician arrives and examines Qin, he sees that the baby is ready to make his way through the vaginal opening. Song Yan sits behind Qin on the flat part of the pitched roof allowing her to rest between his legs and use his chest for leverage once she begins her pushing cycle.
Pediatrician : Qin… I can see the crown of the babies head ….. When I tell you…..take deep breath and begin pushing as hard as you can… Ok Qin now Push.
Qin takes a deep breath as she leans back with her feet perched on the roof she begins screaming as she pushes as hard as she can… All the firefighters especially the young recruits are in awe that they are experiencing what a woman has to go through to give birth.
Song Yan: Honey are you Ok? …. Now relax a bit before the next push.
Xu Qin: If making love with you wasn't so dam good we would never do this again…. This really hurts …. You know how I don't like pain?
Pediatrician: Qin your doing really well… One more big push and your baby will be out….. Now take a deep breath and Push
Qin again musters all her energy and leans back against Song Yan and pushes as hard as she can….. the baby is out and she can hear his loud crying
Xu Qin: Is he alright….. their is nothing wrong with him… why did I have to come to this roof top tonight of all times?
Pediatrician: Once we get him to the hospital we'll give him a complete examination, but for now we have to get both of you off this roof….. This was certainly a first for me.
Song Yan: Qin are you alright?
Xu Qin: I'm fine can I hold our son?
Song Yan: Let me get you off this roof first.
The Shilitai firefighters take every precaution to bring down their Madam Song to safety . Once at the hospital Song Yan calls both sets of grandparents and tell them of the arrival of the newest Song.
The journey that began with a glance from Xu Qin to Song Yan all those many years ago starts a new chapter for this couple as parents.
Special Note… Zhai Miao that played a dominate force in this story found her Prince Charming during a special event of Guo Sun Group. Meng Yan Chen has been in negotiations with the newest Chaebol heir that is on the same magnitude with Gus Kun Group. Zheig Li Song the very handsome and assertive Head of the Zheig Group was completely captivated by Zhai Miao's beauty but also her demeanor in handling the event. His persistence paid off when Miao relented and decided to give him a chance.
Dr Yang Si Jia and Xiao Yi Xiao continued their Friends With Benefits status.
