It was his first time in detention. May was so gonna kill him.
Peter looked across the empty classroom with a small huff of contempt for his present situation. The teacher was busy on her laptop, and the only people besides himself and the regulars were Kitty, Flash, and Liz Allan, the latter two passing notes and sharing smug grins from the other side of the room.
Liz had said something awful to Kitty in passing period. Flash had laughed and doubled down on it. He overheard and got involved. Some teacher caught them yelling and gave all four of them detention after school. He should've just kept his head down, he knew, but the look on Kitty's face was too much to ignore.
Peter turned back to his homework. If nothing else, it was a good opportunity to catch up. It wasn't two minutes later that he felt a small ball of paper bop the side of his head.
U didn't have to do that
She'd written it in her notebook. Peter flashed a gentle smile before turning the page and scribbling a response of his own.
U know I did
Kitty's awkward glower didn't waver. He watched with interest as she wrote under the previous message.
I'll tell May it was my fault
He shook his head vigorously.
It's not
Ur gonna be in trouble
Peter glanced over at the delinquents on the other end of the class. She was probably right; he'd never been in trouble at school before and May was most certainly going to give him a stern lecture when he got home an hour late. He glanced at the teacher, then back at her before finally smiling and scribbling two small words in barely legible handwriting.
Worth it
She looked surprised when he flashed a mirthful wink. She smiled and reached for his hand, interlacing her fingers with his own. After a quick survey to ensure nobody was looking, she leaned forward and feathered her lips onto his cheek, the faintest touch yet ensuring she left her warm mark on him. Peter felt a small jolt race down his spine before leaning back in his chair contently and returning the handlock with a gentle squeeze, beaming from ear to ear the whole time.
Yeah. Totally worth it.
