Kiritsugu's Trilogy: Kiritsugu's Revenge or If All we are is just Masters and Servants
Disclaimers I don't own the fate series, please support any to all official releases.
It was a good trip getting back from the middle of ass crack nowhere by the words of Kiritsugu, but it was worth it if it meant he could slightly alter Artoria's future when it comes to events that he'd rather she didn't have to experience.
Granted Merlin had warned him how Artoria's fate was pretty much sealed, and how his actions may only delay the inevitable, he could agree that getting rid of Morgan Le Fey was for the best.
But still Merlin insisted that it's for the best that Kiritsugu had kept altering Artoria's future to a bare minimum as there was a possibility that it may cause problems later down the future, but Kiritsugu could honestly care less.
What he does care about is the reason to him not only being here, but how he got suckered into looking after Artoria with the command seal on him, along with those damning words on Morgana's last breath.
Finally back to the castle, Kiritsugu could hear the sounds of blades clashing against one another as he went to hitch his horse.
Checking up on the commotion, it was Artoria being trained by Paladin Marston under the supervision of Merlin.
"You've gotten good little Art, I'm impressed" said Paladin Marston, "I do aim to pleas sir" said Artoria as she spotted Kiritsugu from the corner of her eye as she began to lax her stance.
"Oh look our rogue with a heart has returned' said Merlin as everyone waited patiently for Kiritsugu to greet them.
"Morning dad" said Artoria, "Morning Art, Merlin the job is done" said Kiritsugu, "That's pleasant to hear, though I had no doubt about the outcome good sir" said Merlin.
"Right, granted there was something I wanted to talk to you about, if you could follow me" said Kiritsugu in a rather formal tone, "I see. Very well, paladin please continue to train miss Art, me and Kiritsugu are going to have a chat over a pint" said Merlin.
"No worries, our little knight is in good hands" said Paladin Marston as the 2 picked up their swords and continued on with their training.
"Truly it is quite a spectacle to see the young king grow and learn at such a fast rate" said Merlin, "Art always had talent when it came to being a great knight and soldier, as for being a leader, well…" trailed off Kiritsugu.
"I'm sure she'll be in good hands knowing you'll be there to protect you, though I feel like we're getting off track, what was it you wanted to talk about" asked Merlin.
"Not hear, this is a seriously delicate matter" said Kiritsugu in a hushed voice, "Ok, I'll play along" said Merlin as both men had made it back to Kiritsugu's quarters where merlin casted a small barrier where no one can overhear them.
"Now that we're here, what is it that got you bothered, and please don't tell me you're under Morgana's influence and have brought me here to finish her dirty work" said Merlin.
"It's about this, I haven't had these markings on me since the end of the Holy Grail War, the end of my binding contract between me and Saber, but that all changed when I finally came here, to serve and look after Saber, so please tell me, for the love of god, why am I baring these command seals on me, and why does it seem to have an effect on me" demanded Kiritsugu as he showed his command seals to Merlin.
"You said that you had these markings before, exactly the same correct" asked Merlin, "Yes, only difference was that the command seals then were red" said Kiritsugu.
"The color hardly matters, though I could be wrong" said Merlin as he began to examine Kiritsugu's hand closely.
"Come let's meet back to my quarters, I'm pretty sure I have a tome that might answer our question" said Merlin as both rushed to the wizards room as they searched for the book whilst they talked.
"Tell me Kiritsugu, what was it that you and Morgana talked about during your encounter" asked Merlin, "Aside from her summoning an outsider to help her track down Art and I, she told me that I should never break the bond placed between me and Art with this command seal, under the curse that my fears and her future will come true, whatever that means" said Kiritsugu.
"She didn't perhaps say that while under the guise of her casting a spell on you now" asked Merlin, "Unlikely, when I deliver the final blow on her, she was hit by one of my origin bullets that completely destroys a person's magical circuits, and is impossible to heal from an outside source of magic leaving long term crippling damage if they didn't die right away" explained Kiritsugu.
"…Truly you are a terrifying man, but that's beside the point" said Merlin as the 2 searched his vast library of personal books before finding what they were looking for.
"Ah ha, I think I found it" said Merlin as Kiritsugu rushed to his side, "Let's see the rules of the Holy Grail War, and its effects afterwards, no that's not it, the 7 servants classes plus the 10 extra servant classes, that's not it either".
"Ah ha, masters and their command seals" said Merlin, "Let's see, in order to be a master to a heroic spirit one must possess a genuine relic or item… let's skip to the next page" said Kiritsugu.
"All active masters that are participating are granted 3 command seals sealing their status as active participants in the Holy Grail War" read Merlin, "I could've told you that, let me see that thing" said Kiritsugu.
"Ah-ah, no touching my books" said Merlin as he swatted Kiritsugu's hand away, "Just hurry up already" said Kiritsugu.
"No need to be rude. Ah here we go, regardless if the master dies during or after the Holy Grail War, should his bond with his servant remain strong or impactful during their final hours, then the master is in turn forced to return the favor" said Merlin.
"Return the favor? Also I think I made it clear that me and Saber's relationship was terrible towards the end" said Kiritsugu, "It did say impactful, so you 2 must have left a strong impact on one another. Now where was I… yes the master in question is given some benefits upon returning to when their servant was active in their time, which includes being endowed with eternal life/youth when the master was in their prime as a magus, incredible healing factor from normal attacks that don't affect their magic circuits, and the command seals returning to them" read Merlin.
"Right there, please tell me they've got more details on the matter" said Kiritsugu, "Yes, hold on, it's telling me to redirect on a different page" said Merlin.
"The return of your command seal solidifies your bond between your servant, which allows you to guide you to the location of your servant, share whatever emotional burden they're carrying" said Merlin as he was already listing things that Kiritsugu knew already.
"Anything explaining the risks that come with me removing the command seals" asked Kiritsugu, "Hmm, no" said Merlin.
"What!?" exclaimed Kiritsugu, "You can look for yourself, there's nothing here listing the dangers of having your command seal removed" said Merlin as Kiritsugu frantically took a look at the book for himself and was stump to hear the revelation.
"Damn it, this… is going to bug me in my sleep for a while now" said Kiritsugu, "I'm sorry Kiritsugu, I wish there was a clear answer to your conundrum" said Merlin.
Taking a few minutes to brood, there was nothing Kiritsugu or Merlin could do other than clean up the mess they made.
"Merlin, tell me if there's a way for you to remove the command seal upon me" asked Kiritsugu, "What are you saying?" asked Merlin.
"Just… answer the question" asked Kiritsugu, "Well yes, it could be something easy to remove, though I won't do it, at least not without knowing more or if I can confirm that those words from that nuisance of a faery was nothing more than an empty threat when she damned a pox to yours and Artoria's future" said Merlin.
"Thank you, that's all I wanted to ask, though for the record I didn't want you to remove this command seal from me, at least not until I get the answers I need myself" said Kiritsugu.
"Agreed oh wise magus killer" said Merlin with a smile as his bedroom door was being opened.
"Hey dad, merlin, come join us all for brunch" said Artoria, "I could eat, you Kiritsugu" asked Merlin, "Yeah, let's all eat" said Kiritsugu as the trio went about to enjoy their day and anymore peaceful days they had left from now on.
Years Later
As predicted, Artoria will one day pull the legendary sword Excalibur from the stone, solidifying her rightful reign as the king of all Englund, and when that day finally arrive so was the dominoes falling to the Artorian Legend.
Events such as getting the sword Caliburn from the lady of the lake along with her alliance with her most trusted brother in arms amongst the knights of the round table, Sir Lancelot the Black Knight, along with the formation of the said Knights of the Roundtable.
Against all fears and expectations, Artoria was indeed a proud king who cared nothing more than her people, getting the people of Englund to swear their undying lying loyalty to their ruler and leader.
Granted there was some major help thanks to Kiritsugu as he would stay behind and prevented the would be civil war amongst those that opposed to the idea of Artoria being the rightful king of England while she was chasing out the Saxons out of Britain, or how he made himself public to the king of France when he vocally opposed the idea that in order for there to be peace amongst their country, Artoria had to marry her daughter Guinevere, where they settled for her acting as a diplomatic representative with a lot of power and influence.
Yes these were probably the major events he shouldn't have intervened with, since he couldn't change Artoria's fate, but neither one have yet to suffer from any consequences from his actions.
Speaking of, Kiritsugu was standing present to take on the duel between the Green Knight and Sir Triston as he didn't want to take any unnecessary risks.
"I humbly take on this duel in not only my king's, but also this young knights stead" said Kiritsugu as he still looked exactly the same how he was.
"Hahaha, I humbly accept your request sir, though I think it be best if you discuss the matter with the young knight and your king" said the Green Knight.
"What gives Kiritsugu, I've got this" said Triston, "You're all balls and no brains is what you are, now sit down, the men are going to fight" said Kiritsugu.
"You son of a-" said Triston, "Triston, that's enough, please stand down" said Artoria as she was going to allow Kiritsugu take on this challenge simply because not doing so wasn't going to stop him from doing what he wants, and they would all have to pay the price of him bringing shame to the knights of the round table.
"It seems my king has spoken" said Kiritsugu without having to turn back, "Indeed, now how would you like to go about doing this, right now or in an hour once you've been properly dressed and fitted" said the Green Knight.
"We're doing this right now, now if you want this fight to last longer than 5 seconds, I advise you put that helmet of yours back on" said Kiritsugu, "Oh ho, I admire your moxie and bravado good sir" said the Green Knight as he complied to Kiritsugu's request.
It truly mattered not whether the man put on his helmet on or not, this battle and footnote in Artoria's history was going to be resolve quicker than she anticipated.
Letting out a hearty battle cry, the Green knight began to charge Kiritsugu with his axe in hand, as Kiritsugu stood his ground as he pulled out his Calico and began to beat down on the man as he was riddled with armor penetrating lead.
Bringing the man to his knee's Kiritsugu ran and used his Calico to knock off the Green Knight's helmet off, before switching to his Contender as he pressed the barrel against the man's forehead.
"Do me a favor and stay down this time" said Kiritsugu as he finally pulled the trigger, knocking the green knight on his back as this behemoth of a knight lied died bleeding on the floor.
"Congratulations Kiritsugu, you've gone and protected your kings honor" said Lancelot, "Mm, just make sure cleanup crew comes with an axe or 2 and a pyre ready" said Kiritsugu as he walked past Lancelot as he was ready to lurk in the shadows of Artoria.
"Kiritsugu, I appreciate for what you did, I do" said Artoria as she stopped the man in his tracks to properly acknowledge him with a smile, "Always my pleasure Art" said Kiritsugu.
Finally free to go and watch Artoria from the shadows, tonight's meeting amongst the Knights of the Roundtable was about today's event and once more Kiritsugu.
"My lady, please do something about Sir Kiritsugu, his actions, while containing a bit of merit, is very unbefitting for a fellow knight of the round table" said Galahad as one of the important rulings that Kiritsugu enforced during the formation of the knights of the roundtable that they not only know, but accept Artoria's true sex and may refer to her as their king both in public and private with any to all female addressed titles be said in private.
"I agree, I honestly could care less as to him taking my place in today's duel, but I'd much rather he'd use the weapons we use to keep it fair and honorable and not with those manmade magic tools he carries around him" said Triston.
"My King, we're not asking you exile or dismiss Sir Kiritsugu, but rather you expel him as a Knight of the Roundtable, surely his talents and skills play better as a roman Frumentarii or a Persian Hashshashin" said Bedwyr.
"Gentlemen, I'm not deaf to your complaints, much less blind to sir Kiritsugu's actions, but the whole reason I've had him recruited as a knight of the round table was because he would open his eyes and join us in our ways, did I not say this, much less didn't we agree to this term and idea" said Artoria.
"Your highness, I myself have stayed silent and even sided with your decision to keep Kiritsugu within the loop within our circle, but frankly I can't keep up with this act, nor do I believe it's fair that you solely bear the burden of that man's actions and responsibilities any longer. I motion that we take up a vote to have Kiritsugu officially booted out of the Knights of the Roundtable" said Lancelot.
"Very well, if that's how you all feel, we shall take it to a vote then, who here feels we should have sir Kiritsugu officially removed from the knights of the roundtable" asked Artoria as practically everyone shot their hands up.
"Very well, seeing as how there's no point in taking a second opinion, the motion to have sir Kiritsugu officially removed has been passed. Now if there's any other discussions you'd like to make, please speak freely" said Artoria.
"Yes, I feel like it's about time I share with you guys a vision that's been bothering me for the longest time now" said Galahad as all ears fell on the knight.
Later
After another meeting to end all meetings that day, Artoria motioned to her dining room where as expected, a feast fit for a king had been prepared and spread across the table.
"So how did today's meeting go" asked Kiritsugu as he patiently waited for Artoria to take a seat next to him.
"Sigh, you know, a little bit more of the same" said Artoria as she finally sat down, "Hm, I take it that your little boyband are still not seeing eye to eye with me" asked Kiritsugu.
"I hardly see eye to eye with you, but you know that already" said Artoria as she picked up her silverware and proceeded to dine on prairie chicken and beef stew.
"Sorry, but you'll thank me for my actions soon enough" said Kiritsugu with a knowing smile, "Actually there is a matter of me needing to address you of your actions" said Artoria getting Kiritsugu's attention.
"Starting tomorrow you're no longer a member of the Knights of the Roundtable, henceforth you're no longer allowed to meddle or be in the loop of any affairs that is discussed amongst us" said Artoria.
"Father, please forgive me" said Artoria as she lowered her head down not wanting to see how upset Kiritsugu was.
Instead of hearing him raise his voice, Artoria felt his hands gently nuzzling the back of her head.
"It's fine, I was pretty much an honorary ghost member to begin with" said Kiritsugu with a warm smile.
"I'm glad to hear that you're not taking this as a personal attack" said Artoria, "Nothing about it was personal, frankly speaking I've been meaning to drop out and continue to do my own thing" said Kiritsugu.
"Right… listen I don't mind you trying to protect my kingdom, but I'd appreciate it if you started showing some mercy to your actions" said Artoria, "Hey I don't kill kids or intentionally kill the innocent, give me some credit and recognition" said Kiritsugu.
"And I do" said Artoria as the 2 continued to eat, "Though please tell me, what's new with those knights every now and again, I want to know if Lancelot will finally gain the nerve of asking Genevieve out already" said Kiritsugu.
"Sigh, tell me about it, that man gets so flustered being around that snotty princess and I have left them alone on many occasions only to hear no progressive feedback between those 2" said Artoria.
"Don't let her hear that, can't be affording no war with France now" said Kiritsugu, "What about, how are things between you and that one girl from the market" asked Artoria.
"You talking about Alice the bookstore owner or Karen the bakers daughter" asked Kiritsugu, "My father, a man guilty of a double serving of shame" sighed Artoria as Kiritsugu tugged her dish away.
"I don't need to get judged by you, I already got enough guilt and shame without you being vocal about it" said Kiritsugu in a warning tone.
"Right, I'm sorry" said Artoria as she got to take her dish back, "But to answer your question, nothing is going on, Alice is planning to get engaged with that kid who runs an apothecary shop" said Kiritsugu.
"What about Karen" asked Artoria, "She made her feelings clear to me, but I had to turn them down, for obvious reasons" said Kiritsugu.
"Your presence isn't damaging or causing any problems to me or my kingdom for the most part, I don't think any harm can be done to you if you chose to find someone to love" said Artoria.
"That's the thing, you people expect love to be the leading factor in order to have an intimate relationship with someone, me, I've already had to live with the sin of loving 3 different woman in my life, I don't need one more" said Kiritsugu.
"Sigh, if that's how you feel" said Artoria as the 2 continued to eat in silence for a minute before Artoria could enjoy some dessert at long last.
"So out of curiosity, what did you and the knights talked about tonight" asked Kiritsugu, "Now father, I did say you're no longer going to be within our knowledge of circle or voice your opinion on our matters now didn't I" said Artoria.
"True, but you said nothing is official until tomorrow" said Kiritsugu, "Fair enough. Me and the knights talked about something that definitely piqued our interest" said Artoria.
"And that would be what" asked Kiritsugu, "Sir Galahad has been having visions in his dreams as of late, he believes the return of the Holy Grail is nigh and within our grasps" said Artoria as Kiritsugu choked on his food.
"Are you all right" said Artoria as she pat Kiritsugu's back and brought his chalice to his lips.
"I'll be fine" coughed Kiritsugu as he caught his breath again as he began to compose himself.
"Art, I know you just told me right now how I'm no longer a Knight of the Roundtable and I have no say in any of your affairs, but hear me out when I say that any crusade on searching for and attaining the Holy Grail isn't worth it or in your best interest or anyone else's benefit for that matter" said Kiritsugu.
"How can you say that father, having such an important relic within our kingdom will change the lives of my people, more so it seems that most of my knights are quite eager to this crusade we hoped to plan" said Artoria as she was caught off guard when Kiritsugu not only placed his hands but stared her dead in her eyes.
"Because that Holy Grail that you and everyone on this earth, be it now or in my time, is an ignorant fool who does not realize that it's not an artifact used to heal, it is an artifact used as an unholy, ungodly weapon that'll pave a path of destruction more greater than the weapons used in my life" said Kiritsugu.
"So please, I beg of you, do not seek the Holy Grail, cause I will do anything, even if it means annihilating all the knights of the roundtable from existence, to stop you from getting your hands on a device that cause's nothing but misery, I've already had to live with that burden once in my life the first time around, I won't do it again. Are we clear" said Kiritsugu.
Rarely would Kiritsugu would get serious with Artoria, more so he's never gotten this serious with her before to an extent, and seeing that mad look of a man who's heart is blacker than an eclipse sun was not something to be scoffed at.
"…Very well, if you feel like it's best that we don't seek out the Holy Grail, I shall inform the knights of the roundtable in tomorrow's meeting" said Artoria.
"Thank you, that's all I ask of you" said Kiritsugu, "However I do want something in return from you" said Artoria.
"And what pray tell will that be" asked Kiritsugu, "There'll be a banquet held here in the castle in celebration of the autumn equinox, I'd like you to join us this time around" said Artoria.
"Is that all" asked Kiritsugu as he's attended a few banquets and feasts in the past, "Yes, but this time you must interact with people, and I don't mean just the nobles either" said Artoria.
"Ok, I'll do it" said Kiritsugu as he began to finish the remaining scraps on his supper plate.
"I'm off to bed now" said Kiritsugu, "Have a good night father" said Artoria with a smile.
Definitely not having any real desire to sleep any time soon, Kiritsugu went to his quarters that was marked by the staff or anyone other than Merlin and Artoria from entering as the whole room became a workshop of some sort.
Work benches lined with tools he needed to further construct other weapons or tools he might need, ranging from concussion grenades to classic frags, or his prized Walther WA 2000 sniper rifle to a Beretta 92F.
Brushing past a desk covered with saw dust, gun oil, and screws, Kiritsugu looked under and pulled out a little black book, filled with important dates and events Kiritsugu had written down a little after getting acquainted with Artoria once again.
Nothing personal kid, but having you lead that damn crusade for the Holy Grail is in no one's best interest, thought Kiritsugu as he began to devise a plan to assassinate Galahad.
Obviously trying to kill him through his favored and iconic methods were out the bag, and because he made it his business to dig in and kill every noble that could prove to be an enemy made finding a patsy all that difficult.
However, there are means and ways he can deal with a person in fey death by natural causes sort of manner.
Going up to a shelf, he picked up a small jar with a black widow spider as he took the arachnid out from its habitat.
Taking out a syringe, Kiritsugu began to shove the syringe into the arachnids venom sack and proceeded to extract an abundance of black widow venom, before returning the spider back to its home.
Admiring the contents he collected, he needed to repeat the process for another 5 times, meaning he had to wait 5 full 24 hour days before he could extract enough venom to definitely kill a man.
1 week later
It was the autumn equinox banquet that Artoria and her people had been heavily anticipating as this meant that there'd be a small parade, followed by a large gathering in her castle where everyone was encourage to eat and be merry like.
Everyone is encouraged to eat except for Artoria as she remained clad in her armor in order to hide her identity, while the merry making was celebrated by all but Kiritsugu as he continued to brood and stay by Artoria's side along with Merlin.
"You should really learn to loosen up man, everyone came here to party, and you're being a party pooper buddy" said Merlin as he took a sip from his chalice.
"Father, you did promise me that you would socialize" said Artoria, "Sigh, very well, however I shall inform the people they're allowed to take left overs with them" said Kiritsugu as Artoria began to pale since she would normally have to look after the left overs on these events.
"Meanie father" said Artoria with a pout, "Don't look upset my king, for your attitude does set the mood to tonight's festivities" said Merlin.
"Can you at least tell one of the chefs to hide me a rotisserie chicken and treacle tart for after the banquet, and some chicken nuggets please" pleaded Artoria.
"Yes, I shall pass the message along" said Merlin as he too left his post, but got side tracked by a couple of pretty girls from Italy.
Back with Kiritsugu he made his way to the buffet table and grabbed himself a hunk of beef, a lamb lollipop, and a glass of mead.
Sure he could have gotten himself some cooked cod with butter, or even settle for a bread bowl of broccoli and cheese soup, innovations that were a common state from the countries of his time, but to these people were revolutionary in the culinary world, but he choose to avoid since people get hangry over that stuff.
"Kiritsugu, it's good to see you" came the voice of a young woman with dirty blonde hair as she wore a brown on white dress.
"Alice, pleasure to see you outside of store hours" said Kiritsugu, "Pleasure is all mine, by the way you know Mr. Leon he runs the towns apothecary" said Alice.
"Yes, we're well acquainted" said Kiritsugu, "Mr. Emiya, it's always a delight to see you, and I know this my come rather in appropriate to ask, but I could use your humble opinion in towards making some medicine, it is after all the eve of flu season" said Leon.
"I can't give you a full list as it is a bit time consuming, I can give you a recipe for sore throats, gather enough honey to fill a small jar and mix it with some rose petals the grow from a tree, if you want to get the honey whilst avoid getting stunned to death, I recommend lighting a fire under the hive and let the smoke do its work in making the bee's drowsy" said Kiritsugu as Leon continued to scribble down the notes.
"Thank you sir, this is much appreciated" said Leon, "Anytime, also congratulations on your engagement" said Kiritsugu.
"Thank you Kiritsugu, we would like to formally extend an invite to the wedding" said Alice, "I'd be honored to attend" said Kiritsugu, "Great, anyways we're going to talk about the details with some other associates, though please feel free to join us in a game of canasta later on" said Leon.
"Maybe" said Kiritsugu as he waved his friends off as he was trying to find a spot that was least crowded for him to sit down and enjoy his meal.
Ready to enjoy the first bite of a meal, he was not expected to dine with the company of a young woman wearing a white and yellow dress as she had hazel eyes and platinum blonde hair.
"Is this seat taken" asked the woman, "No, you're more than welcome to join me Karen" said Kiritsugu as the woman sat next to him with a smile.
"Something on your mind" asked Kiritsugu as he didn't turn away from his plate, "Just happy to see you outside the shop when not doing shopping for the king, whom my father is grateful for providing some of the catering to this delectable innovation that the chefs have admitted that you made" said Karen as she was eating a broccoli and cheese soup in a bread bowl.
"I'll be sure to pass it onto the king" said Kiritsugu as he had some meat juice on his lips that he was prepared to wipe, but Karen beat him to the punch.
"Thanks" Kiritsugu said, "It's my pleasure, though if you would like to repay the favor, you could always share a dance with me" said Karen.
"Tempting, but truth be said, I don't dance" said Kiritsugu, "Oh my, don't know how" asked Karen.
"No, rather this music isn't best suited for the dance that I know, plus I'll admit I'm not too big on dancing" said Kiritsugu, "I see. Well if you change your mind I shall be waiting until you decide you're ready" said Karen as the 2 continued to eat in peace.
Saying his farewells and feeling he upheld his promise to socializing with the commoners, Kiritsugu made his post behind Artoria.
"Kiritsugu" called Artoria, "My king" said Kiritsugu as he knew she was going to say something that'll irk him.
"How did it go" asked Artoria, "It went well, Alice and Leon have invited me to their wedding as a guest" said Kiritsugu.
"I hope you intend to go" said Artoria, "I have no reason not to go, so don't get authoritative on me" said Kiritsugu.
"And as for that bakers daughter whom you were sharing a meal with" asked Artoria, "She wanted me to extend her and her father's gratitude for allowing them to serve part of the catering" said Kiritsugu.
"Is that all" asked Artoria as she knew there was more as she sees all on her throne tonight, "Yeah" lied Kiritsugu.
"Kiritsugu, I saw that she was upset and left your company with longing eyes, so please be honest with me" said Artoria as Kiritsugu began to make a small grimace.
"She asked me to dance, but I declined her invitation" said Kiritsugu, "Really, you'd deny a maiden just one little dance, because of what" asked Artoria as she wasn't going to allow any stubborn excuse pass her watch no matter what he said.
"I… it's complicated all right" said Kiritsugu as he was telling the truth as the only person whom he danced with was his wife and that was a special moment he had only shared with her and her alone.
"Sigh, not this again" said Artoria as she wanted to pinch the bridge of her nose but can't for obvious reasons.
"Kiritsugu Emiya as your king, I command you to go back to that woman and ask her to share one dance with you" said Artoria as she raised her hand towards Kiritsugu.
Oh how Kiritsugu was pissed on the day that Merlin decided to explain a bit of the command seal marked on Kiritsugu and the authority Artoria had over him.
Granted Artoria never abused it, as she would normally command Kiritsugu to cease his aggravating and killer approach on her subjects from time to time, so you could imagine how he felt being forced to do this.
"Oh you are so not eating anymore chicken nuggets for a week" said Kiritsugu as he began to turn tail and approach Karen all the while Artoria had the most smug smile that she wished Kiritsugu could see.
"Kiritsugu is everything all right" asked Karen as she stood by her lonesome near a post, "Would you like to dance with me milady" asked Kiritsugu with grit teeth.
"Yes, I would love to" said Karen as Kiritsugu lead them to where everyone was dancing, and instead of doing the medieval dance that they were all doing, Kiritsugu opted to teach Karen how to waltz instead.
"Wow Kiritsugu, that was amazing" said Karen, "Yes well, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself" said Kiritsugu as he ignored the clapping and cheers he received.
"I did, though maybe we can do something later on in the near future" said Karen with a curt smile, "Sure, why not" said Kiritsugu as he knew that Artoria would squeeze this out of him and force him to treat her to a date whether he liked it or not.
"Now excuse me, I must be watching my king" said Kiritsugu, "Of course, until then Kiritsugu" said Karen with a smile.
Walking past everyone and ready to stay in the shadow of his king, he stopped to acknowledge Artoria.
"Be honest with me Kiritsugu, was it all that bad being able to share a dance now" asked Artoria, "Sigh, it wasn't" said Kiritsugu.
"Glad to hear it" said Artoria as she dismissed Kiritsugu to enact his plan of dealing with Sir Galahad.
The Next Day
It was said really, to think such a noble and honorable knight as Sir Galahad to be found dead one morning in his bed chambers due to a mixture of alcohol poisoning and a spider bite from a black widow making a home in the corner of his bedroom.
While the knights of the round table took the day off as they allowed their king to make arrangements for the wake of their brother in arms, we see 2 knights discussing amongst themselves.
"Of all the people to have succumbs such a terrible fate" said Gawain, "Indeed, rather it's ironic that he had to die considering he was having those visions of you know what" said Lancelot.
"I concur, truly I must" said Gawain, "What are you guys talking about now" asked Kiritsugu startling the 2 knights.
"Sir Kiritsugu, forgive us, but news will be spreading that Sir Galahad had unfortunately passed away in his sleep this morning" informed Gawain, "Really now? How?" inquired Kiritsugu to play out his alibi.
"A mixture of alcohol poisoning and a spider bite, honestly it's something you wouldn't expect" said Lancelot, "Damn, sorry to hear that. So where's Art" asked Kiritsugu.
"The king is at his estate, making plans to properly send him off, also forgive my authoritive tone, but could you please address the king with more respect when talking about him, in the opening" said Lancelot.
"He might be our king, and your leader to your little club, but I've been watching over the king when they were a brat, so forgive me if I refer to them on a casual manner" said Kiritsugu smugly.
"Now you listen-" began Lancelot, "You listen, I can't be standing here gabbing my gums with you 2, I gotta go check up on our king, make sure they're doing alright" said Kiritsugu. As he waved the duo off.
"I swear, that man enjoys enticing us" said Lancelot, "Maybe, but regardless everything he's done was out of care and love for the king so give him that" said Gawain.
"I swear I can never accept that man" said Lancelot, "It doesn't matter whether we accept him or not, our king does and whether we like it or not, the man has a better bond and connection than any of us ever will" said Gawain.
Eventually the 2 men would depart and return to their estates around the kingdom, where Lancelot finally returned home.
Granted his home always had an unhospitable, rather eerie feel to it as stated by members of the knights of the round table, if he was honest Lancelot felt the same thing since he only had one staff member a hardened old hag not deterred by superstitions, or at least entirely, and one other.
Truly Lancelot didn't know what to expect when his own male guardian as the only person he had called his family for the longest was the lady of the lake, but a few years before meeting his future king, he'd come into contact with a Kariya Matou.
A creepy man with a manic disposition, but never did he discourage or did anything to harm him, or anyone he held dear, in fact he's the man he turns to in confidence when regarding matters of the heart.
"Sir Lancelot, it's a pleasure to have you back milord, though I must say your return is rather… early" said Kariya, "As perceptive as always Mr. Matou" said Lancelot as the 2 walked and talked to the man's bedroom.
"Truly our day has been cut short, along with any plans to convince my king on a worthy and noble expedition" said Lancelot, "How so Sir" asked Kariya.
"Sir Galahad, whom you've met, has unfortunately met an untimely death this morning" said Lancelot, "Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that" said Kariya.
"Thank you. Sigh, honestly he was a good man with valuable information" said Lancelot, "What kind of information, if you don't mind me asking Sir" asked Kariya.
While normally secretive about his dealings with the Knights of the Round Table and his king, Lancelot figured their could be no harm in telling the truth over their biggest crusade, now put on hold indefinitely thanks to Galahad's death.
"I guess there's no harm in telling you. You see, Sir Galahad has been having visons in the night about the most treasured relic in human kind, the Holy Grail and it's locations, and while it did pique our kings interest of it's first mentioning, they suddenly lost it over night and has denied any plans to go even on a small crusade for it, though it seems that might be the most indefinite case to the foreseeable future" said Lancelot.
"What if I were to tell you could try to extract some information on our dearly departed knight on the locations he's had" said Kariya, "How could you do such a thing, if it were possible" asked Lancelot.
"I'm a magus, remember kid, so I got a spell or 2 up my sleeve that'll prove to be quite useful" said Kariya as an insect visibly pulsated under the skin of his face.
"Ok, but please tell me how you plan to do it, you don't intend to use necromancy now" asked Lancelot, "Of course not, rather, I can send one of my aids to burrow themselves into Sir Galahads head, and extract the information" said Kariya.
"But the man is dead" said Lancelot, "Well you learn in life that there's dead and being truly dead, you friend is a fresh corps, so I still got time to extract the information we need, but I must do it quick before he's truly dead" said Kariya.
"So please sir, think about it, but don't take to long now" said Kariya as Lancelot began to furrow his brow before letting out a defeated sigh.
"Very well, I shall allow you to… extract the information, but please do so in a dignifying way" said Lancelot.
"Not to worry, you can trust me sir, now how about we talk about you love life with Lady Guinivere" said Kariya as this was all going according to plan.
Elsewhere
Artoria had barely returned back from Galahad's home when Kiritsugu had decided to snuck up on her.
"Everything alright my king" asked Kiritsugu as he was holding a small snack tray with one hand as he was biting through an apple.
"Kiritsugu, sorry for my lack of apparency, but I had to leave this morning" said Artoria, "Yeah, I was informed by the kitchen staff how you weren't present for breakfast" said Kiritsugu.
"Are you insinuating that I'm a glutton" asked an embarrassed Artoria, "If the boot fits is all I'm saying" said Kiritsugu with a chuckle.
"Even if you are bound to me and the man I consider as my father, I can't excuse such a mockery to your king" said Artoria as she was on the defensive.
"Relax, there's nothing wrong with a woman having a big appetite now, so would you forgive me and fill me in on the details as to what went wrong if I offered you some food" said Kiritsugu as he laid the tray down revealing it had a 6 meat sandwich, vegetable soup, and a bowl of beans.
"If you think you can bribe your king off with food that easy, then you're mistaken father" said Artoria before her stomach let out a loud grumble at the worst time, further embarrassing her.
"Uh huh, so mind telling me what's all the hubbub that's going on, I asked Lancelot and Gawain earlier, but mind filling me in on the details" asked Kiritsugu.
"Well if you've heard it from Lancelot and Gawain already, then you know that Sir Galahad has unfortunately passed away in his sleep due to over consumption of alcohol and being bitten by a spider in his sleep" said Artoria as she was eating the meal Kiritsugu set for her.
"Sorry to hear that Art, but I'm sure the guy must have died happy in his sleep" said Kiritsugu.
"Well if you don't mind I've got my rounds to make" said Kiritsugu as he was ready to excuse himself, "Kiritsugu" said Artoria.
"Don't think I've forgotten what you said about you going drastic lengths to prevent either I, or the knights of the round table from attaining the Holy Grail" said Artoria.
"I would hope not" said Kiritsugu, "… Kiritsugu, did you perhaps assassinated Sir Galahad in his sleep, even though I already forbade the crusade" asked Artoria.
"No" lied Kiritsugu as he finally made his exit as he left his king alone.
Truth is Artoria knew Kiritsugu was lying, she knew the moment she mentioned not only the Holy Grail, but the names who were eager to attain it, and how he confessed he'd go through any lengths to prevent this crusade, she knew she had already doomed the fate of her must cherished knights.
Alone to eat with a broken heart, Kiritsugu knew that Artoria knew, and knew that she won't do anything to stop him, even though she's got the absolute authority to not only make him confess and sent him to his death, she knew that she wouldn't.
This much did pained Kiritsugu with guilt since if it were any other man or woman on the planet they would not hesitate to order him to die a slow painful death, but not Artoria, she'd always take the high road on these matters.
You're doing what's best not only for the both of you, but for the good of the world, thought Kiritsugu as he was 100% sure that his actions was truly for the greater good.
Days Later
It was the day of Galahad's funeral that all the knights of the round table gathered for one final farewell and hurrah for their brother in arms did Artoria finally got to address her knights once again.
"You were a great man and someone I felt proud to have considered a brother in arms, may your soul walk free with god" said Artoria as she delivered the last bit of the sermon as everyone began to disperse to allow the undertaker to bury the man.
"My king, may I borrow a moment of your time" said Lancelot, "Of course Lancelot, high might I be of service" said Artoria.
"How can I put this…" said Lancelot as he was struggling to find the words about the information to the Holy Grail wasn't lost and that they could still quest for it.
"Is something the matter" asked Artoria, "Right the matter. My king, I know with your declaration of us not pursuing the Holy Grail, much more with the death of Sir Galahad, it's a matter that should be buried, pardon my phrasing" said Lancelot.
"You've been pardoned, but why bring this up" asked Artoria with a raised brow as she knew this was not an appropriate matter to bring up.
"My liege, the information and location to the Holy Grail isn't all that lost, in fact I am bold to say that I now carry the information to the grails location" said Lancelot as this got Artoria's eyes to widen like dinner plates.
"Please would you reconsider us to quest for the Holy Grail in honor of Sir Galahad" asked Lancelot as the frown forming on Artoria's face was the answer in itself.
"Lancelot, I advise that you must never not only bring up this matter every again, but you bury that information on you forever" said Artoria.
"But my liege" began to plead Lancelot, "Enough, I don't want to hear it, honestly Kiritsugu was right, the Holy grail would bring nothing but death and misery to our lives" said Artoria.
"Kiritsugu!" exclaimed Lancelot as he turned to see the man acting stoic as ever and wise to his surroundings as he shot a glance to the black knight.
"Please, just forget about it" pleaded Artoria as the last thing she wanted to see was her most cherished best friend and most loyal knight to die because he was left out of the loop and was walking down a path that'll lead to his death.
"A pox on that man, and a pox on you for constantly defending that blackguard and rogue" said Lancelot.
"Enough! In spite of your insubordinate accusations, I'm going to forgive you this once, but mark my words Lancelot, no one is allowed to pursue the Holy Grail while I still reign as your king, do I make myself clear" warned Artoria with a raised finger.
"Now excuse me" said Artoria as Lancelot was left there to brood on the fact that once more, his king, a great leader and woman was once more protecting Kiritsugu, a living cancer to their organization and society.
Not caring to know the reason to the man's reactions, Lancelot can take a blind guess and assumption that the reason to Sir Galahad's death and the quest of the Holy Grail was postponed was all because of Kiritsugu.
Arriving back to his estate, Lancelot could only take his anger out on the dining room furniture, getting Kariya's attention.
"You all right there Sir Lancelot" asked Kariya, "Kariya, I'm sorry for startling you, I'm just so angry with my king and her associate right" said Lancelot.
"Am I hearing right, you have grievances with your king now" asked Kariya as this was a shocker to the man.
"I know, I shouldn't be feeling this way, but I just can't accept my king for sticking up for that… man" said Lancelot, "And who are you by chance referring to" asked Kariya.
"I'm referring to her guardian and retainer with the highest authority to our king, even though he's neither a knight of the round table or parliament, I'm talking about that blackguard Kiritsugu Emiya" said Lancelot.
Now while none of magus or magi had very rare interactions amongst each other, and while he has no real beef with Kiritsugu, truth is that his presence being here puts a real wrench in Kariya's grand plan.
"Mind telling me exactly how this Kiritsugu has offended you so greatly" asked Kariya, "That man has manipulated our king into not pursuing the Holy Grail, and might possibly had a hand in the death of Sir Galahad, honestly if he wasn't so well protected I'd have cut him down myself" said Lancelot.
"I see, so I guess any plans to quest for the grail itself has been given the kibosh" said Kariya, "Unfortunately, and I apologize for making you wasting your time and effort on the matter" said Lancelot.
"It's alright. Might if I be bold with you for a minute kid" said Kariya, "By all means" said Lancelot almost dismissively.
"If your king is adamant in not questing for the Holy Grail, might it be better if you take actions upon yourself and say quest it for your own interest" said Kariya.
"Are you insinuating I go behind my kings back and get the Holy Grail by myself" asked Lancelot, "Pretty much, yeah" said Kariya.
"What you're suggesting is high treason sir" said Lancelot as he wasn't bemused of this conversation, "I'm well aware, and it might result in a potential civil war at worst or a duel the death at best, but look at it like this, there standing before the Knights of the Roundtable, Sir Lancelot the man brave enough to quest for the Holy Grail by himself, in the honor of Sir Galahad, proving everyone that in order for this great nation to continue to strive and for the honor of knights of the roundtable, a new leader must be instated, someone strong, handsome, and fiercely loyal to his subjects as he's crowned the true king of Englund, and what's more you'll have the official ranking and position to ask for the hand of lady Guinivere as your queen" said Kariya as he pressed all the right buttons on his master.
"I don't know… really I shouldn't be tempted" said Lancelot, "Ah temptation is what drives a man to do foolish things yes, but so does love. Oh how I wish I can go back and save my dear Aoi from that bastard Tohsaka, and their daughter Sakura from the fate bestowed upon her by my father" said Kariya as he was going on by his unrequited unfulfilled mission of love.
"But alas I can't, though I guess helping you in your quest to attain the heart of lady Guinivere might be my one chance of redemption, that is if you decide to go on this brave and noble quest by yourself" said Kariya.
Taking a minute to really think about, Lancelot would never want to hurt Artoria, after all they've been friends since their tween years, and was truly the best and noblest leader their kingdom deserves.
However what she doesn't deserve is to be tied down and associated with Kiritsugu a man who by all accounts should have been persecuted and killed many times over do to his underhanded and dishonest actions and methods of the past.
Yes he himself has only every back up and defended him, but it was all for the sake of being on Artoria's side and well being.
So he figured he'll go out of his way to save his king, and by gaining the hand of his true love, by getting the grail, challenging his king to a duel, dethrone, but keep her alive and by his side as his retainer while ruling over England with Guinivere by his side.
"All right, I'll do it" said Lancelot, "Splendid, I'll start making arrangements for our departure sir" said Kariya.
Leaving the black knight alone, Lancelot knew that until he officially departs the kingdoms borders it's not to late for him to back away from his actions, at least a part of him knew that.
And yet another part of him knew they'd be better off without having Kiritsugu around, and that's all that really matters.
The Next Day
It was a slow day in the castle as Artoria sat on her throne preparing to deal with the grievances and issues of her subjects as she has these sort of events once every other week.
But it brought a smile to her face knowing that she's there to aid her subjects in their time of need.
"We're ready to go whenever you're ready my liege" said Merlin, "Great, prepare to let my subjects in" said Artoria as a castle guard began to approach her.
"Your highness, please forgive my intrusion" said the guard, "Please rise and speak" said Artoria.
"Of course, we have the head maid to Sir Lancelot's estate coming here with an emergency message" said the guard, "Send her in forth right" said Artoria as she had a bad feeling about this.
"Your highness, I apologize for not coming sooner, but I have a grave matter to inform you" said the head maid, "Please speak at once" said Artoria.
"Sir Lancelot, and an associate of his that's been living in his estate have chosen to go rogue and desert your kingdom in favor of looking for the Holy Grail by themselves" said the head maid.
Hearing this really shocked the group as they would never expect Sir Lancelot to betray Artoria like this, no matter how angry he was with her.
"This associate of Sir Lancelot, who were they and what's their name" asked Kiritsugu as he finally stepped out of the shadows.
"It was a gentleman by the name of Kariya Matou, I don't know much about him, other than how he's scared off most of the old staff and any of the new staff upon settling in Sir Lancelot's estate" explained the head maid.
"Kariya Matou!" exclaimed Kiritsugu as he couldn't believe he was hearing that not only the existence of another magus during the 4th Holy Grail War was not only here, but how he didn't had a contingency for this.
"Kiritsugu, is everything all right" asked Artoria as she didn't like the appalled look her father was sporting.
"Art, Merlin we got to go and catch to those 2 right now, and stop them both from attaining the Holy Grail" said Kiritsugu, "But we don't even know where they're going" said Artoria.
"I think I might know where they're going, but we can't waste any time here discussing it" said Kiritsugu, "Right, fill us in on the details while on the way" said Merlin as the trio rushed out to mount on their horses for an emergency mission to stop Lancelot and Kariya from attaining the Holy Grail.
Time Skip
In the original Arthurian Legend, Sir Galahad had a vision of the Grails location and was indeed a clandestine event to happen in the life of Artoria, where he along with Sir Gawain and Sir Lancelot would have been sent on a quest to retrieve the Holy Grail.
In the original legend, Sir Gawain would have gone to a false location, while Sir Lancelot would have found one of them, however his adultery with Guinevere had prevented him from attaining, while Sir Galahad had not only the honor of finding it, but drinking from the very cup itself.
Really Galahad had to be merc in order to prevent this foreseeable event cause only his eye witness claim will bore the birth of the Holy Grail for a second time in the world, before leading to the infamous Holy Grail Wars.
But now all of Kiritsugu's perfect planning was compromise was because of Kariya Matou who was most definitely using Lancelot as a puppet to retrieve the grail for his own nefarious purpose.
"… So that's it huh, upon finding the Holy Grail, this would eventually lead to the Holy Grail War that we shall both serve" asked Artoria, "Yes, and because I never factoring in that Kariya to be present with us, I may have doomed us all to a worse fate then before" said Kiritsugu.
"Just how dangerous is this Kariya Matou" asked Merlin, "I myself never got the opportunity to face off against him in direct combat, much less had any solid information on the man, other than him being the original master to Berserker aka Lancelot the Black Knight, he was the oldest son and possibly the sole heir to the Matou family" said Kiritsugu.
"What makes the Matou family so special" asked Artoria, "They were the one of the 3 families who originally crafted the corrupted Holy Grail of my time, henceforth why we had a Holy Grail War" said Kiritsugu.
"That's definitely not good for us" said Merlin, "No shit, which is why we must stop Kariya, and to that extent Lancelot as well" said Kiritsugu.
"Kiritsugu, you shall not so much as even think about pointing that Calico near Lancelot's head" stated Artoria, "Damn it kid, this is seriously not the time to be sentimental with past friendship" said Kiritsugu.
"By my command as your king and daughter, I hereby forbid you from maliciously laying your hands on Lancelot" ordered Artoria, "Goddamn it. Fine, but if he starts coming on to attack me, attack you, and attack Merlin, do not look back at this moment with regret" said Kiritsugu.
"As his king and friend, his actions are my responsibility so should the moment come where I must face him in a duel, then so be it, and trust you king for once" said Artoria.
"While as touching it is for you 2 to communicate so casually, I must point out that we should be mentally preparing for battle" said Merlin.
"Agreed" said Artoria and Kiritsugu in unison as they were nearing the location.
As predicted, Lancelot was nearing towards the Holy Grail, the mystic item said to heal all wounds and cure all ailments, and because Guinevere was never officially Artoria's in hands of marriage, he wasn't faulted due to adultery.
"Lancelot!" shouted Artoria, "My king! How did you find me" asked Lancelot.
"It was all thanks to Kiritsugu, but that's besides the point" said Artoria as the trio all began to dismount from their horses.
"I have already ordered that the quest of the Holy Grail was forbidden, and yet you defy me, and went behind my back and seek it for yourself. However, I am going to give you this one last chance for you to stand down, and cease to return back home, where you shall keep your title as a knight to the people, but no longer as a knight of the roundtable" said Artoria.
"My king, I would never in my life disobey or betray you, and I think you for your generosity once more" said Lancelot as he stood still with his hand being within the grasp of the Holy Grail.
"However, if I were to step down, I must ask you to be honest and confess to me, as to who Kiritsugu is to you, why do you let him do what he does, and allowed the death of Sir Galahad be a casualty, easily prevented if we had stopped this man, but instead you let him stain your hands in the blood of your brothers like that" demanded Lancelot.
"My relationship with Kiritsugu is a complex one, best described as a bad romance at best, and while I am ashamed and disappointed how he went and killed Sir Galahad even after I had promised him that we won't attain the grail, and as you mentioned could have stopped him, he's a man who's kindness and patience I can't easily discard, and even though I swore to protect you, my brothers, I could never take control or force the man how he should live, because his actions do ultimately serve the greater good, be it now with our people, or many centuries after you and I have long since passed in this world. So if this answer satisfies you, than please, stand down now, this is your last chance" said Artoria as her words seemed to Echo all the way down to Lancelot's heart.
"If you believe that by killing Sir Galahad and not attaining the Holy Grail serves as the greater good in our lives, and the lives of tomorrow, than you have proven to be just as corrupted as that man besides you" said Lancelot.
"Shut up already, and be grateful Art here has commanded me from killing you myself and on the spot" said Kiritsugu with a sneer.
"I shall not stand here and listen to your barbs killer, so for the good of the people, I shall take this grail as mine and use it to rule and guide the people of England to brighter future that you've been casting over" said Lancelot as he finally took the grail himself.
"Merlin, any time you want to intervene" said Kiritsugu as he pulled out his Calico, "On it already" said Merlin as he casted a blinding spell towards Lancelot's direction, but instead of hitting the knight, he got their true target Kariya as he narrowly dodged getting hit.
"Damn, I missed" said Merlin as he clicked his tongue, "Kariya Matou, at long last we meet" said Kiritsugu as he raised his Calico ready to end it, if not for Lancelot stepping in.
"You shall not harm my retainer now" said Lancelot, "Such a promotion my future king, please allow me to hold that grail so that you may not be encumbered in battle sir" said Kariya.
"Lancelot don't!" shouted Artoria as it was too late since the Holy Grail now rest in Kariya's hands where the corrupted mud began to fill and pour out of legendary cup.
"Yes, it's finally within my grasp" said Kariya with a mad laugh, "God damn it, this is bad" said Kiritsugu.
"Kariya, what is the meaning of this" demanded Lancelot, "The meaning behind this is that now, I can achieve my wish as well, to finally reunite with my love Aoi and protect Sakura from a fate worse than death, but don't worry I shall keep my word and foresee you becoming our king now" said Kariya as the grail continued to corrupt in Kariya's hands, causing everyone to back up.
"Hey Art, just say the word all ready so I can take him on" said Kiritsugu, "We can all take him on" said Artoria.
"That be ill advised, I can't explain why, but all that mud he's producing while does grant a person longevity and restores them at their peak power, causes them to go mad with sin and vice" said Merlin.
"Which is why I'll be taking him on alone" said Kiritsugu, "But dad, you'll go mad" said Artoria, "So be it, I learn now that no matter what there's not stopping fate, and by intervening I only caused our situation to worsen".
"Just promise me that should I return with all my marbles lost, you take this and put me out of my misery" said Kiritsugu as he tossed his Contender in Artoria's hands.
Approaching Kariya, both men were now ankle deep in the corrupted mud as they seemed fine, however it was their masters who were dealing with the pain as evident by them feeling heavy and wanting to scream.
"Kiritsugu Emiya, it's my pleasure to finally make your acquaintance" said Kariya, "Go step on a lego and live" said Kiritsugu as he raised his Calico and proceeded to rain a hail storm of bullets on Kariya who countered with a large swarm of insects defending him.
"Amazing, honestly I didn't had time to let my body adjust to the parasitic insects that hive inside my families body before choosing to enter the Holy Grail War, but during this time as Lancelot's servant and me not suffering from long term damage and ailments really made me a man not to be trifled with" said Kariya.
Not caring what he had to say or his achievements, Kiritsugu found this confrontation to be a nuisance at best as he continued on his rampage of trying to kill this man.
Reaching in his back pocket Kiritsugu tossed a smoke grenade towards Kariya as this not only left the man dazed, but it also seem to have quell the insects buzzing around him.
Running out the smoke, Kiritsugu pulled a combat knife out his coat and tossed it towards Kariya, intending to plant it on the side of his temple, but an insect like forearm sprouted out his neck and took the hit for him.
"Cheap tricks won't work on me Kiritsugu" coughed Kariya as the forearm retracted back a little.
Stoic to the situation, Kiritsugu continued to rain bullets at Kariya, all the while Merlin stood back and healed Artoria.
"My king, please you must stay strong" said Merlin, "Merlin, what's going on" asked Artoria with clenched teeth.
"It may have something to do with your connection to Kiritsugu so long as he's protected by the command seal if I had to guess, honestly I should be writing this down" said Merlin.
"Please don't forget about Lancelot" said Artoria, "I won't, but you come as a priority" said Merlin as he glanced back to see that Kiritsugu had the situation under control.
Using time acceleration, Kiritsugu had tossed a frag towards Kariya as his insects were preparing to cover it, but the man had fired his Calico to hit the grenade, as the blast radius scattered the insects from Kiritsugu's sight of laying a few good rounds into Kariya at long last.
"Merlin, hand me back my Contender!" shouted Kiritsugu as Merling merely levitated the firearm back into Kiritsugu's hands as he pointed his mage craft towards Kariya.
"Any last words" asked Kiritsugu as he saw that Kariya let out a horse yell since a bullet was lodged in his throat.
"Good enough for me" said Kiritsugu as he pulled the trigger and finally put Kariya down, releasing Lancelot from any pain.
"The grail" said Kiritsugu as he eyed the most sacred and sought after item of the world just floating their as it continues to lay pure corruption.
Before Kiritsugu can act, his attention was turned to Artoria as she let out a painful scream.
"Kiritsugu, if you would please step out from that quagmire from hell, our king is suffering in your stead" said Merlin as Artoria now fell to her knees and was holding onto herself.
I can't take that chance, it's got to be done, thought Kiritsugu with a clenched fist as he turned to face the grail.
"Kiritsugu!" shouted Merlin, "Merlin, I need you to cast that spell, liberate my connection with Art immediately and take her and Lancelot away from here" said Kiritsugu.
"But Kiritsugu, what do you plan to do" asked Merlin, "I plan to destroy the Holy Grail at the cost of my life, not at the cost of Art's" said Kiritsugu.
"Kiritsugu…" mumbled Artoria, "Kiritsugu, you can't be" said Merlin, "There's no time to discuss, this is the only way and safest, now please do it already!" shouted Kiritsugu.
"Lancelot, if you can stand, please do so and help our king back on her horse, I've got to cast the spell already" said Merlin, "Yessir" grunted Lancelot as he carried his king back on his horse, before mounting on his.
"Go on, I'll be on your tail in no time" said Merlin as he began to concentrate and chant the words he needed to say.
Looking back at Artoria and looking back towards Kiritsugu, Lancelot began to ride off from the hazard zone baring the shame of how his actions truly put the most heroic man to an early death.
"It's done" said Merlin as Kiritsugu felt not only the command seal fade from his hand, but the heat emanating from the mud he was standing in.
"…I'm sorry Art" said Kiritsugu in a whimpering tone as he finished loading his Contender and fired the one bullet he needed to end the madness that would have plagued his world at his time, and hopefully Artoria get's to live a life that she deserves, liberated of misery.
Ok guys, finally got this chapter done and posted, so sorry it took so long to get finished, but it's really hard to write when dealing with these heatwaves here in the Bay Area, plus I have to divide my time looking for a new job, among other things, though the biggest one was the addition of Kariya.
Gonna level with you guys, I completely forgot about him and his relationship with Lancelot, I mean originally I did had an idea of Kiritsugu actually going tow to tow with most if not all the knights of the round table, including Lancelot, but then I remembered Kariya last minute, so I'm sorry if his moments and interaction seemed rush, because it was.
And I know you guys are thinking why add him if I forgot him, while as I was adding him, I actually forgot my original ending to this chapter as I progressively wrote, that and I didn't want some smart alec to call me out on it on the review or DM on it, you know who you are.
Anyways next chapter will be the last chapter to this fic, really want to finish that before I go back into school later in September, which is a long shot challenge cause you know, I'm an unemployed NEET, but screw it even if I have to start mid to late semester I'll do it because my great grandma literally passed away 2 weeks ago, and I promised her on her death bed that I will finish school and got that college degree ready, while also wanting to say 'fuck you dad, I'm a college graduate, something you failed to promise Wella', my great grandmothers name btw.
Until next time, be safe, be good people, and please support your local fandom communities.
