(A/N: Hey guys. Got over my angst. Just one of those things that happens is all. I got over it and going to try to get an update a week out but I can't promise that)
To say Aunt May was shocked about Peter's inheritance was the understatement of the century in the world of Peter Parker. He was thankful she was already sitting down when he told her.
She was a number of things: Excited, worried about what this would entail for Peter, confused about why this would happen. However, overall, it was welcoming news.
"It will certainly help around the house but honey...are you sure you're up for something like this?" May asked.
"...I don't know. It's a bit too much to process" Peter said, honestly.
"I understand that. A young boy running such a big company. I'm not sure what to think" May said.
Peter didn't either. He didn't know if he was ready for such a responsibility but then again, this was a chance for him to do some good outside his Spiderman costume. Oscorp was a company that Norman Osborn used to create supervillains like Sandman, Rhino, Molten Man (Liz's Brother) and commit heinous crimes against the city. Maybe now, he could use it to do some good in the world now.
"I'll think about it. Right now, I have school to deal with" Peter said, changing the subject.
"Yes, that's right. School starts again next week. Your Senior year. That'll be exciting, won't it?" May asked.
"Yeah...I think so" Peter said, honestly not sure how it'll go. He originally thought it would be hell with him thinking Liz hated him, Flash giving him a hard time as usual, seeing Gwen and Harry together. However...maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all. Maybe it would be...ok. Not great...but ok.
Peter kissed his Aunt goodnight and went upstairs to his bedroom. He would have a very busy week this week. He had several Alcoholics Anonymous meetings to go to, therapy sessions to attend. Thankfully, with Oscorp giving him the best health insurance money could buy, it wouldn't cost his Aunt a cent.
The brunette boy got dressed in his pajamas and went to bed, sleeping into the night in no time, comfortably in the first time in a while.
*Meanwhile, Osborn Residence*
"I can't believe this! I'm getting punished for defending my family's honor?" Harry asked over his Osberry to Gwen in his room. She was barred from coming over to the Osborn residence for a week as part of Harry's punishment for his outburst that day.
While he was still playing the victim, Gwen was still angry with him.
"Harry, you called Peter a drunk right to his face. He's obviously had some issues over the past few months and instead of being a concerned friend, you threw a hissy fit and decided to rub salt in his wound" Gwen scolded over her phone at her house.
"Ok, I admit that I probably went too far and I'm sorry about that. Really" Harry said, trying to calm his girlfriend.
"Oh, you're sorry, are you? Tell me then, have you called Peter to apologize yet or even sent him a text? Or was your first instinct to just call me and whine to me?" Gwen asked, impatiently, not standing for Harry's nonsense right now.
"Well...I…" Harry said, knowing full well he didn't send a single apology to Peter in any form.
"I thought so. Look, Harry. I know you're upset about Peter inheriting your dad's company but the fact of the matter is he did and Peter didn't have anything to do with that whether you want to admit it or not and I'm not going to listen to you try to twist it so that he's somehow the bad guy. Peter's smarter than you are, Harry. You know that and your dad knew that as well. Because of that very reason, he thought he'd be a better fit. I'm sorry you don't like it but that's the reality of the situation and the sooner you get that through your thick skull, the better you'll feel" Gwen said to Harry.
"I'm just so tired of these things happening. My dad always preferred Peter over me, even when we were just kids. He always got better grades, got the attention of all the girls like MJ and Liz and now he's getting my family's company as well while he's out there, still taking pictures of my dad's killer just for a quick buck? That's...crap!" Harry said, not letting up.
"Harry, I am so sick of you always talking badly about Peter lately. He is our friend and has been for years and I'm not going to let you speak another word about him. He is one of the kindest, sweetest people I've ever met and you will never get me to say otherwise. I'm tired, Harry and I want to go to bed. I'm hanging up now. Goodnight" Gwen said, finally having enough of this.
"Wait, babe, hold on-" Harry tried to say before he was interrupted.
"Harry, I've told you over and over that I hate it when you call me 'babe' or 'honey'. Also, I don't want to hear anymore of your nonsense tonight and will talk to you again when you've cooled down and not a moment before. Again: Good. Night" Gwen said, finally hanging up the phone.
"Bah!" Harry said, throwing his phone to the ground.
Just when things always started looking up for him, life always managed to bring him back down to the reality that he was just a loser with money. He made the football team for Midtown but that crashed and burned, he got together with Gwen, one of his best friends and a beautiful blonde but she didn't love him. She loved his so called best friend over him and would be with that 'best friend' right now if he hadn't guilted her into staying with him and now the company that should rightfully his was now in Peter Parker's hands.
No matter what, everything fell in line for perfect Peter Parker, the one his dad had always cared about more than him and would have traded up for in an instant if he could've. He got all the girls, got all the good grades and now was taking his money as well. Perfect Peter Parker had struck again!
This wasn't going to stand. He didn't know how he was going to deal with Peter but the fact of the matter is someone needed to pay and he knew exactly who it was. Harry started planning on what exactly was going to be done about this.
