*The next morning, around 10AM, Midtown General Hospital*
Gwen entered the hospital after being dropped off here by a taxi. She was determined to figure out just what was going on with Peter. She knew he was drinking but didn't know if that was the reason he was brought here. She felt it had something to do with something bigger. The blonde approached the front desk where a male worker was working on a computer.
"Uh...excuse me?" Gwen asked, shyly.
"Yes? Can I help you?" The Hospital worker asked.
"I...I was wondering if you looked after a Peter Parker a few nights ago. I had heard he was in this hospital" Gwen stated.
"Uh...yes. He was. Checked out yesterday morning" The worker said, looking up Peter's file on the computer.
"Right...I...I was wondering if you could tell me why he was here? Was it due to his...drinking issue?" Gwen asked, sounding concerned.
"Uh...are you related to Mr. Parker in any way?" The worker asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No. No I'm not" Gwen said, shaking her head no.
"Ok...what's your name?" The worker asked, typing something else on the computer.
"Gwen Stacy or Gwendolyn Stacy" Gwen answered. The worker then continued to type on the computer.
"Ok…um, unfortunately, I'm not seeing you under his emergency contacts so I'm afraid without proof of explicit permission from the patient, I can't give you information like that. We are under strict policy and under federal law to ensure the privacy of our patients. Would you like me to call him?" The worker asked, going for the phone.
"No! No! Please, don't. I...I think I'll just go then" Gwen said, lowering her head in sadness and began to turn around before the worker stopped her.
"Uh...young lady, hold a second. If I may ask, what's your relationship to this young man? Are you his girlfriend or anything?" The worker asked.
"Uh...no. He...he already has one...or two, maybe" She quietly added that last part in before moving on. "And I have a boyfriend...kind of. I'm just a very close friend...or maybe I was…I don't know"
"I...see. What's the cause for the curiosity?" The worker asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I...I just want to make sure he's safe...and that he's doing well. I've known him since 7th grade and there were times in which we almost could have...been more than friends. If anything happened to him, I...I just don't know what I'd do with myself" Gwen said, a slight tear coming down her cheek before she wiped it away.
The worker looked in sympathy at the teenage girl. The worker looked around and then motioned for her to come closer. Gwen did such and leaned her head down.
"Follow me and don't let anyone know the real reason you're here" The worker whispered.
Gwen just nodded, slightly confused and a little scared, not knowing the worker's intentions here.
The worker got from behind the desk and began to walk Gwen down the hall at the end of the lobby.
"Uh...where are we-" Gwen began to ask before she was interrupted.
"The storage room should be this way, young lady. The bandages you're requesting should be there" The worker said.
Gwen raised an eyebrow and gave a weird look to the worker.
"That is what you requested...right?" The worker asked, turning towards her with a knowing face and putting an emphasis on the word 'right'.
Gwen then began to understand. She put on a 'Eureka' face and began to nod.
"Oh...Oh! Yes. Of course. Thank you, sir" Gwen said, nodding her head vigorously.
A few moments later, they both entered a storage closet. He turned on a light and closed the door.
"Alright...there shouldn't be any cameras or microphones here. I can't give you any official documentation but I can tell you the reason why he was here" The worker said.
Gwen nodded. "I understand. What...what happened?"
The worker sighed and began to mentally rehearse how exactly he was going to say this.
"Mr. Parker...was brought in...for blood loss" He said, deciding to skip over a few details for the time being.
"Oh god! Did he fall? Was he jumped?!" Gwen asked, panicking. Had her Peter been hurt that badly?!
"Shh! No...no, he wasn't jumped nor did he fall down. He...eh…" The worker stammered.
"What? Please tell me! Please!" Gwen said, desperately needing to know.
The worker told her to calm down and then sighed a deep sigh.
"Alright...Mr. Parker...was losing blood due to the fact that he slit his underarm 8 times" The worker said.
There was a deafening silence that spread across the room after this revelation. Gwen just blinked and blinked, more rapidly than she ever had. She hadn't just heard that. She refused to believe it.
"Wu...what?" Gwen asked, softly, not able to raise her voice any further.
"Yes...Mr. Parker attempted to commit suicide" The worker said.
Those words stung Gwen's heart like one wouldn't believe. Peter, her Peter, tried to commit suicide? That...that couldn't be? It just couldn't….could it?
"I...I don't…" Gwen stammered over her words, not able to come up with a coherent thought for this situation.
"For what reasons, we don't know but that's the extent of our knowledge. Mr. Parker tried to take his own life. Now you can't share this with anyone else, especially not Mr. Parker. Understand?" The worker asked.
Gwen said nothing, just continued to blink rapidly until she nodded her head.
"Yes...I do" She simply said, not saying another word on the subject.
"Alright...now I realize this must be hard for you to hear but you have to stay calm. We're about to leave and there cannot be any suspicions as to why we really came in here" The worker said as he got her a box of bandages and gave her a wink.
Gwen hesitantly nodded and then they made their way out of the closet. Gwen tried her damndest to hold her feelings in as they both walked down the hallway back to the lobby but it was getting harder and harder by the second.
When they got back to the lobby, Gwen thanked the worker for doing something that could cost him his job and potentially even his freedom. This was something she needed to know. It just hurt like hell when she found out what exactly it was.
The moment she stepped out of the hospital, she practically collapsed to the concrete ground and buried her face in her hands, her sadness overcoming her.
"What have I done?" She said as she cried into her hands. She stayed in that position for a long while. Several people passed her and stared as they just walked by. However, that didn't matter to her. The only thing that was on her mind was about a stupid decision she made that drove a boy she had loved since 7th grade to this. He went to extreme lengths to be with her by breaking up with his sweet and beautiful girlfriend and she repaid him by spitting in his face and telling him to shove off while she went to comfort a greedy, selfish asshole.
Gwen needed to make this right. She needed to talk to Peter. If she couldn't be together with him, she at least wanted him to know that she cared. That she always cared and wanted to be in his life. For good this time.
After around 20 minutes of crying, she got up, wiped her face of snot and tears, sniffled and began to walk away from the hospital, determined on making up with Peter.
