When she finally emerged from the bathroom wearing a new shirt, Bonnie was still in the office waiting patiently for her. Saphira was happy that he did not leave and she sat at the desk and rebooted the system again. Bonnie began asking her questions about her life outside of the attraction. He knew that things were not a hundred percent at home, but he was still curious.
Though as much as he was looking for an honest answer, Saphira told him what happened when her parents recovered from their injuries. Her parents had slowly begun to ignore Saphira at that time and were grieving a lot for her brother. They stopped caring about her efforts in school, though they were upset for her when the bullying got worse.
When Roxy was born, they treated her like the most fragile thing in the world. They still do. Finding attention from her parents was extremely difficult. It seemed she only got it when she was going through something negative. Which was why they had voiced their disapproval when Saphira told them she got the job at the attraction. Otherwise they would have just said a quick congratulations and go about their day.
"I must say, your parents seemed like they adored you when you were younger," Bonnie said sadly after listening to her tell him about her family. "I guess they changed because of the accident...but I would think it isn't an excuse to put you to the side like that."
Saphira nodded. "Yeah. To be honest, I had planned that when I turned eighteen that I would leave home and possibly cut contact with them. I don't think that they will care much for anything even when I am adult."
The animatronic shook his head. "That's disappointing." He paused when he heard footsteps approaching the office. "Oh! Phantom Chica is coming."
Saphira looked at the window and she saw the withered, burned looking animatronic walked by it. Saphira smiled as she remembered when the phantom animatronics were brought in. She unfortunately only knew them for a year before the accident, but she was quick to befriend them as a kid.
Phantom Chica stopped at the door and smirked slightly at Bonnie. "I see you are keeping our night guard company."
He shrugged slightly. "She needed someone to help her get cleaned up. Especially since Fredbear and Springtrap made a mess of her tonight." Phantom Chica nodded slightly in agreement. "Anyway, I guess you came here to talk to her."
She nodded and looked at Saphira. "I apologize for not coming to see you sooner. I have been trying to wrap my head around seeing you again after all these years. I know I did not know you for as long as the others, but we had a great time."
Saphira smiled at her. "Yeah, we did. I am sorry I didn't come back..."
The animatronic rolled her eyes and waved her hand to interrupt Saphira. "You don't need to repeat yourself, Saphira. I'm not the one who threw you around tonight. If anything, they're the ones who should be apologizing right now." Saphira did not respond. "I know most of us weren't happy with you, but your alibi is valid, Saphira. So I don't think it's worth remaining mad at you."
"Thank you."
"You are welcome. It's not everyday we get old friends back." Phantom Chics stepped closer and leaned down. "I do apologize for making you witness how we...you know..."
Saphira nodded and shrugged at her. "It's fine. I look at it...from a different angle. But I am curious, must you eat humans to survive? Could regular food sustain you?"
"Regular food does sustain us, we just don't have access to a lot of it," Bonnie said softly. "We are lucky if we find pizza or something else that is leftover. However, our system was sadly designed to need human blood and flesh to survive. Even if we could have all the pizza we want, we would still need a side of human on a plate."
Saphira felt sad for them as they were forced to live this way. "I wish I could do something to help you with that. And I don't mean letting you eat me, but I wish I could somehow change your diet for you."
"We all wish for that, Saphira. While some of us enjoy the hunt, most of us would prefer not to if we could." Bonnie took a deep breath and sighed deeply. "But we will always be this. Living animatronics forced to behave like animatronics during the day and kill at night."
Saphira looked up at him sadly. "Does this mean it happens every night?"
"No, but it feels like it most nights. If you do end up remaining as our night guard and Springtrap and Fredbear decide that we should leave you alone, we probably actually could have fun at night. It tends to get very boring during the night." Saphira wondered what Phantom Chica meant. "We tend to wish that we could actually stop acting like animatronics all day and all night. During the night, I wish that we could just talk, play silly games together and maybe have private parties...something to make our lives a little less dull."
"What about sleeping?"
"We do sleep," Bonnie confirmed quickly. "We just don't sleep often. And it is usually a few of us at a time that will sleep." He glanced at Phantom Chica with a smile. "I do agree with Phantom Chica though. We haven't really had a night where we can properly relax from the day. We are tired all the time because of it."
Hearing these confessions from the animatronics really made Saphira want to stay. Even if they did not want her to be hurt by Mike or try to learn about their origins, at least they could actually feel free during the night if she remains as the night guard.
Saphira smiled at the two of them. "So...would that not mean that if I stay, I could turn a blind eye to whatever you guys do during the night?"
"Yes, I suppose so." Bonnie smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder. His hand was so big that it could cup her entire shoulder easily. "But I do think you should not come back after this week, Saphira. I want to remain friends, and I also want you to stay alive. You are the only human I care about. You have the rest of your life ahead of you."
Saphira looked away from Bonnie. "I still haven't decided if I want to live that long anyway, Bonnie...now that I am back, I...don't think I want to leave now. Especially after learning more than I ever have about you."
"And I thought you would have grown up and found someone to love." She rolled her eyes at Bonnie's comment as she had no interest. "You have grown up to be rather beautiful, Saphira." She turned her head slightly to look at Bonnie. "Never thought a cute girl would turn out to be so beautiful..." She turned away as she felt herself blushing from the compliment. "It really would be a shame if you died early, Saphira."
She was silent as she did not know what to say. "Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie..." She glanced up in surprise when she heard Toy Bonnie's voice. "Why did you have to go and embarrass her like that. Being told she's beautiful by an animatronic probably feels weird to her."
Saphira actually did not think that. To be honest, this was the first time she's been called beautiful. Mangle even thought she was beautiful, but she didn't think much of it. "I can't really see how I am beautiful though."
Toy Bonnie widened his eyes and smiled at her. "Aw...I see. You lost that confidence you had when you were a youngling. Don't be too embarrassed, darling. You should believe us when we say that, because we have learned a lot about human appearances over the many years. We have seen the beautiful, the average and the not so average."
Saphira chuckled softly as she was amused by that whole thing. "So that makes you a beauty expert?"
Phantom Chica shrugged. "Well...we could be. We see so many people everyday. We can say the same about kids, too. Though we usually keep that to ourselves."
Saphira began to laugh louder. It was highly amusing to her that the animatronics even learned about that. "I honestly think that is funny. But...why would you find humans attractive? You have each other. I think you are pretty handsome, Bonnie. Toy Bonnie is cute, Phantom Chica has that extra flare that Chica does not have, but she is beautiful. I could go on and on about complimenting you guys."
"I guess it's the same as how you see me as handsome," Bonnie said objectively. "And we do not say this out of attraction, Saphira. More like observations. Do you fall for every attractive person you see in your life?" She shakes her head. "Exactly."
Saphira rolled her eyes and chuckled softly. "Thanks for the compliment, I...am not used to them. I have not had a compliment since..." She paused as she thought about her answer. "I don't even know."
Bonnie, Phantom Chica and Toy Bonnie glance at each other in surprise. "I guess you will have to get used to compliments when they are given to you." She nodded before Bonnie's ears twitch when he heard a sob from her. He crouched down and turned the chair so she would be facing him. "What's wrong?"
She looked at Bonnie and threw her arms around him suddenly, surprising the animatronic. She was trembling and he was confused. "I have only just realized how much I missed you guys...you were always like the...protector figure of everyone here, Bonnie. You always had that aura about you."
He smiled and rubbed her back gently. "It is too bad most kids scream when they see me. Not as much as Springtrap, but I would say that most kids prefer Freddy. They're frightened of me and Chica."
"No kidding." Saphira looked up and smiled when she saw Chica snd Foxy at the doorway. "We would come in, but we would overcrowd the room. The office isn't that big."
Saphira leaned away from Bonnie as she felt better. "It is okay. I don't mind..."
"Don't worry lass," Foxy interrupts with a smile. "We just wanna make ya happy. For the rest of the night." He lifts his eyepatch to look at her with both yellow eyes. "I am sorry that I was not believin' ya 'but ya story, Saphira. Ye were one of the most honest lassies we ever had. But..."
"We made assumptions,"
"We made assumptions..." Chica smiled at her kindly. "I wish I could take back all these years we have had without you, Saphira. It has been surprisingly lonely without the friendship we had." She glanced away from her in shame. "Especially when Springtrap really fell into a deep hole. I know he still cares for you...but he's in too deep."
"He's depressed?"
"I guess you call it that. But we would not. Springtrap has been through a mix of emotions, and the wounds were reopened when you returned." Chica glanced at Foxy who shrugged at her. "To be honest though...Springtrap should be the one to tell you his feelings. He's hurting, Saphira. He now knows it isn't your fault, or his...but he's hurting. He would rather you leave now before abandoning him after building a friendship back up."
That would explain why he's been defensive...he wants me gone because he's not only trying to protect me, but also himself.
Saphira felt like she was going to cry again. "Where is he?"
"I do not think it is wise for you to seek him out at this time, Saphira," Bonnie said gently. "I know you want to help, and make amends with him. But...it is a very long road." Bonnie rubbed her shoulder gently. "Make it easier for us, Saphira. Leave at the end of the week, and we will at least know things ended well."
Saphira turned away from the animatronics. This was all too much to think about. Saphira grasps the necklace around her neck and rubbed the pendent thoughtfully. She has kept the necklace the entire time. The bitterness she had towards the attraction was more of the fact she wished they had been here just a bit longer so her brother would he alive. But she kept the necklace because Springtrap had an impact on her.
Thinking back to the time she spent with Springtrap, all the games she played with him, crafts that they made together and everything else...Saphira actually only had a couple friends at school before the accident. And Springtrap was her best friend. She somehow was the odd one in her school, and the accident really made it clear who her friends truly were at the time.
Springtrap and I needed something back then. Springtrap was lonely...and so was I. And now...we are in the same position again.
"No."
Bonnie blinked in surprise at her sudden response. "Huh?"
Saphira glanced at him defiantly. "I don't think I want to leave by the end of the week, Bonnie. I...I don't think I want to just leave and never come back now..."
Bonnie widened his eyes and looked at her with worry. "But...why? You will probably be in greater danger, and not from us."
Saphira turned to look at the computer, staring at the cameras. "Because I just realized something about myself and...everything else here. And I have come to realize...I need something."
The animatronic was confused, he glanced at the others as they too were confused. He looked back at her and gently placed his finger to her chin to make her look at him. "What are you trying to say? I am not understanding. What do you need?"
Saphira could see that Bonnie did not realize what she meant. And she was glad. She did not want to say she actually needed the animatronics. Looking back on everything in her life, as a child, she did not feel lonely because she had friends that she would visit after school. But after the accident, her loneliness was evident for everyone to see, but was ignored and taunted for it. Coming back and learning how her departure has affected the entire attraction in regards to the animatronics, and now realizing how much leaving has even affected her.
She smiled at him and placed her hand on his arm gently. "I…It is not worth something for you to know about right now, Bonnie. But all you need to know is that I am happy to be back." The animatronic opened his mouth to speak, but she interrupted him. "Please don't tell me to leave. I want to stay…if you make me leave…I will just be a trespasser and end it anyway."
"I hope ye don't mean that, lass. We really don't want ya to die." She ignored Foxy as they had no control over her life and she simply looked away from them. "I have to…admit though…seein' ya like this…and Springtrap like that…"
"Foxy, they're hardly behaving the same way," Chica said with a frown. She placed her hands on her hips as she looked at him. "What makes you think Saphira and Springtrap are behaving the same way? I don't see Saphira trying to starve herself."
"No…but…" Bonnie turned his head to look at Chica. "She did admit to nearly killing herself already…" The animatronics look at him in shock. "Not too different from Springtrap." He glanced at Foxy and smiled at him slightly. "I think you are only something, Foxy. But Saphira is in danger here."
Saphira hated that she was being told to leave. She knew they were trying to protect her, but she didn't want to leave. Maybe it was a side of her that made her crazy or something, but the animatronics were her friends. And she was still drawn to them, regardless of the fact that they kill and eat humans regularly. She knew if people wouldn't just trespass, they would be alive. But the window in the Haunted Classroom was definitely opened deliberately to allow unwelcome guests in. Because they were actually welcomed for the animatronics.
Saphira glanced at the time. She was surprised that it was four. She had not realized that a lot of time has passed by already. Though with all the stuff that has happened, it made sense. It didn't feel like that though, she thought it had only been at least two hours, not four. This gave her two hours to go before she could go home. She was supposed to have a therapy session later that day. But Saphira didn't know if she wanted to go this time.
How the hell am I supposed to talk about this with a therapist? She would probably call me delusional.
"You know what I think, Bonnie?" Toy Bonnie said with a smile as he walked over to the bot and placed his hand on Bonnie's shoulder. "As much as I agree with you about her needing to leave, I think if we keep trying to force her to leave, she'll just be more stubborn about it." Saphira looked at him with a curious expression. "You were always a confident kid around us back than, seems like some of that hasn't change. You saw us rip those kids…"
Saphira tensed and covered her ears. "Don't mention that, please…I don't need to remember the details of what you did! I won't pretend that you don't do that, I don't want to be reminded of that."
Toy Bonnie smirked a little and continued talking. "Well…you know what I was gonna say anyway. And because of that, we will let her decide on her own terms when she has had enough of being around us. I mean…" His smirk fades a little as he thought about it. "If any other person met us and knew this side about us, we would be painted as cold killers…even though we are not. We're just surviving."
Bonnie was hesitant to agree with Toy Bonnie. He wanted Saphira to not be here as he genuinely wanted her to be safe. But Toy Bonnie could be right. The more they try to push her away, the more stubborn she would be. He sighed deeply and looked at Saphira kindly. "Look, I get that you might think that you can get to be with your old friends again. I get it. I missed you too…but I don't want to see your blood staining the floor."
"But my blood doesn't bother you," Saphira comments, as he had helped her before.
He grimaced and looked away. "Only because I am not hungry right now, Saphira. I am sorry to say…but if I was hungry right now, I don't think I could resist your flesh and blood for very long. You have the sweetest smell I've ever come across. I don't know why, but for some reason you do. And that makes you a little bit too enticing to us."
At least he's being honest. I had wondered if he was truly okay with being around me, but I guess he lied to me some.
Bonnie turned away and walked towards the door slowly. "Saphira…I really am telling you the truth." He glanced over his shoulder to look at her sadly. "Please heed my warning and request. Do it for yourself. I am glad that we have closure, and we all can move on now."
He walked passed Chica and Foxy as he made his way down the hallway. Saphira heard him sniffle and she was surprised. She did not think that they could cry, but she knew that she should not be surprised anymore. They had every other emotion, so crying was something that they should be able to do. But she didn't know if they could even produce tears, their eyes were not made of flesh.
Toy Bonnie looked at Saphira with a smile. "You're old enough to make your own decisions, Saphira." She looked up at him, uncertain about the rest of the week. "Whatever you choose to do, I will respect it. I have your back…but I can't promise that I will be able to stop the others if they do something. Because I won't."
She nodded in understanding. "Would you mind leaving me alone?" The animatronics seemed surprised by the request. "Please? I don't want company right now. I…I have a lot to think about. And I can't think when you are all here. But thank you for coming to speak to me. I think I needed it, but now I need to be alone."
Foxy smirked a little. "Yes, of course, lass! Ye deserve yer time to yerself." He placed his arm around Chica's shoulders and tugged her to follow him. "We 'ave a couple hours before six, we should do somethin'."
"Like what?" Chica grumbled as she walked beside him grumpily.
"Uno!" Phantom Chica shouts excitedly suddenly, raising her fists happily and walked out of the office quickly. "We haven't done that in weeks! I still have the deck! Let's find who will want to play and lets have some games!"
Since when did they play Uno? I never did that with them.
Chica and Foxy smile at Phantom Chica's idea. "You know what? Yes! Let's play!" Chica giggled and ran down the hallway. "I'll be waiting, Phantom Chica! I know Freddy's been wanting to play for days! Now we can finally shut him up."
Saphira smiled a little and looked up at Toy Bonnie when he turned to walk out. "Who taught you how to play Uno?" He stopped and glanced back at her. "I never did."
Toy Bonnie smiled at her. "No one. We watched how the game is played from humans. And it is a lot of fun for us. It is the one time we actually laugh for a chance. Though sometimes Freddy likes to make me or Bonnie play our guitars." He chuckled a little as he thought about it. "Because he likes to sing other songs that aren't just the same ones, we sing everyday."
She raised an eyebrow. "You don't like the songs you sing everyday?"
He shakes his head. "No, not anymore. We used to, but…there has been no song changes at all. Maybe you can request a change to Mike…if you stick around, of course. We do enjoy singing other songs. Even if they are songs that aren't written specifically for the pizzeria."
Saphira understood. Hearing the same song all the time can get annoying, she couldn't imagine singing the same one for ten years without anything new. "Well…I'll think about it…" She glanced away from him as she looked at the computer. "I know I was told not to go to him…but where is Springtrap? I haven't found him on the cameras."
"Where he usually is when he's upset." That made no connection to Saphira and she rolled her eyes. "All I can say is he is hiding in one of the bathrooms." She glanced up as Toy Bonnie walked along the hallway in front of the window. She was surprised that was where he was hiding. "That might sound strange…but it is quiet and lonely…that's just the way he likes it. Plus, no cameras."
That made sense, and that made Saphira want to check every bathroom to find him. But she didn't really want to either. She played with the pendent with her fingers as she sat at the desk in deep thought. While her whole body ached, her heart seemed to hurt the most. The animatronics want her to leave now because they feel like they've had closure from her departure. But she could tell that they needed someone. A human who could be their friend, and maybe be a ticket to live a better life. But they were worried about her. It was sweet.
Whereas Springtrap wanted her gone for fear of losing control. Even Bonnie hinted that they could lose control based on their level of hunger. If that was true, and there were nights trespassers did not sneak in…she would most definitely learn how much that they could control themselves. However, she did not feel as afraid as someone should be. Mostly because she believed that they wouldn't. She didn't really believe them when they said she had the sweetest scent they've come across. Though she wasn't about to ask them that.
For the rest of her shift, Saphira remained in deep thought. She would only move to reboot the system and use the bathroom once. By the time her shift ended, her body was really stiff, and she looked forward to a hot shower to soothe her aching body. She was going to be stiff by the next shift as well, and she knew it. And she had yet to decide on whether she should proceed with the therapy session later or not. After all, she feared she would slip up and say something about the animatronics and the attraction.
