Saphira gently pushed the door of the bathroom open slowly, peering inside. She saw there was a short walkway leading into the bathroom and the lights were on. She was glad that the door did not squeak when she opened it. She stepped inside and closed the door carefully behind her. She made sure not to let the door bang as she did not want to startle Springtrap. She tiptoed over to the end of the wall and peered around it. And there is where she saw him.
With his hands holding the edges of the vanity with him hunched over slightly and staring into the sink, he had a sad frown upon his face and she could see that he was thinking. She didn't know what to say at this point. She's never really seen him like this before. He seemed like he was feeling defeated or conflicted…maybe both. She could definitely tell that he had a lot going on in his mind.
She took a short breath as she stepped closer. "Springtrap."
He looked up in surprise and glanced at her reflection in the mirror and glared at her. "Did you manage to convince someone where to find me, huh?"
She shook her head. "No…I followed you with the cameras, Springtrap. I figured it out on my own." She smiled at him as he rolled his eyes and looked down. "Springtrap, I really think we should talk."
"About what?" He turned his whole body to face her as he glared at her. "I do not know what to say to you, Saphira. In fact, I have said what I wanted to say."
"Have you?" She challenged and he stared at her with a glare. "I haven't. Springtrap, I…I know that the last few days have been…full of pain." He growled and looked away from her. "You never thought I would come back, and I unintentionally opened wounds for you. And you have every right to be angry. I get it." She stepped closer to him and he clenched his hands slightly as she moved closer. "I probably would be angry too, if someone left and I did not know why. And I look back, I hear from the others…I never knew how much I impacted everyone here."
Springtrap grinds his teeth a little and he turned away from her and walked over to the wall. "It no longer matters now, Saphira. Now all I want is for you to leave. And you still won't do that! Aarrgh!" She jumped when he punched the brick wall, cracking some of it and pressing his forehead against it. "Why do you insist on staying?"
Saphira rubbed her arm gently as she thought of her answer. "Well…because I want to help you…" He scoffed loudly in irritation. "And not just to figure out where you come from. But with something else." He turned his head slightly to look at her with one eye. "I want to try and make your life easier somehow. I don't know what yet, but…"
She paused when Springtrap began to chuckle in disbelief. "What can you possibly do to change things?" He turned to face her and shook his head. "I can't see how. You already know about us, but…if you knew what I did to people, how I tortured them, killed them…you would not be this kind to me." She took nervous breaths as he stepped closer to her. "Do you not get it? I have turned into a worse monster than when you knew me. And I…I don't know how I am going to stop. It brings me a sense of relief that I can inflict pain on people, humans who I thought could be friends with me. But…" He looked away from her briefly before stepping closer to her again, making her step back and press against the wall. "I no longer want to be friends with a human. I know people get scared of me, and good riddance. I want them to stay away." He stepped closer to her as she stared at him, with his body inches away as he placed his hands either side of her shoulders. "But I cannot seem to get rid of you."
Saphira swallowed nervously and smiled a little at him. "Because I don't see a monster, Springtrap." He rolled his eyes at her. "I see only pain." He froze as he listened to her. "I see loneliness. I think you do wish to have a friend again, the others definitely do. They speak about freely. There has not been another kid like me." He groaned and looked away from her. "And maybe you are a monster, but you didn't ask to be one. Did you?"
He listened to her and glanced at her for a moment before turning away. She grimaced when his fingers scraped the wall beside her as he walked away from her. "I…I guess that might be true, Saphira. I never asked to be here. I never asked to be born. Yet…here I am. But getting close to a human again…" He looked at his hands and shook his head. "No…I won't do it."
Saphira felt tears in her eyes and wiped them away quickly. "And yet…something in my scrapbook moved you." He flinched slightly and growled softly. "What was it?"
Springtrap was silent as he took deep breaths, not wanting to answer her question. However, he eventually turned slightly, looking at the ground. "The last image…of the last photo we ever had together…" He looked at her and saw tears in her eyes as she remembered that very well. "And what you wrote underneath. Did you really…love me as a friend?"
She stared at him and nodded. "I told you so many times when I was with you, Springtrap. Yes, I did love you as a kid. I still…like you. And I think we could be friends again, only if you let me in. I just want to be friends."
Springtrap listened and shook his head. "I cannot risk that…I will only be left with pain again. Do you not care about that?"
She stepped closer to him and placed her hand on his arm, only for him to shrug her hand away. "Of course, I care. That is why I want to stay…" She moved to stand in front of Springtrap. "I know that it has been ten years, but I have come to realize that I never stopped missing you. I missed you because you and I were friends. And I was always the odd one."
He looked at her in surprise. "What do you mean you were the odd one? I always thought you were kind and gentle, not odd."
She smiled and shrugged at him. "Well…my parents always told me that it was weird for girls to see robots as friends. They used to think I was weird for hanging out with you, and even at school, I got told I was strange because I loved coming here as a kid. I can kind of understand, but…" She looked at his silver eyes. "I also don't understand. But I guess it lead to me being outcast by my friends. They even blamed this place for my brother's death."
Springtrap never thought that Saphira would be seen as different than other humans. He himself knew he was the odd one of all the animatronics, but he never thought he would hear her say that about herself. After all, for someone as kind and gentle as Saphira could not possibly be weird. At least that is what he thinks.
"I am…shocked." Springtrap stared at her. "I guess you were always the odd one who spent time with us and treated us like people. But…I never thought that others would have make you feel like that." He stared at her for a few more minutes and sighed deeply. "I…I…Saphira, I really don't know if…we should be friends."
"I know, you are afraid of me getting really hurt or dying." He nodded and looked away from her again. "And I am thankful that you are protective of me. Even if you threw some anger at me, I forgive you for it." He seemed surprised that she forgave him for what he has done. "The bottom line is, Springtrap, there is nothing you can do now that can make me leave. Only through death will I leave…unless it is here, then I truly will never leave."
The animatronic seemed very moved by her words as he turned his head so slowly to look at her. "What did I ever do to deserve someone who can look at me and still say that…they want to be my friend. I will never understand why…and yet…" He paused as he began to smile at her. "You have grown into a beautiful, young woman, Saphira." She smiled and looked away. She tensed when she felt him brush a strand of hair away from her face, tucking it behind her ear. "I really don't deserve someone like you in my life…me, a monster…"
She felt her cheeks heating up as the gesture from Springtrap caused butterflies in her stomach, and she did not know why. She looked at him and stepped closer suddenly, surprising the animatronic and wrapped her arms around him, laying her cheek on his chest.
"You are not monster…not to me, Springtrap." Saphira gasped as she heard it. Springtrap's heartbeat. It was beating quickly and she smiled. "I hear your heart…it's beautiful."
Springtrap had been caught off guard by this girl hugging her. He never though that she would want to hug him again. But here she was, hugging him and listening to his heart. Springtrap slowly and nervously wrapped his arms around Saphira's back, holding her gently against him and the two remained locked in a hug for at least ten minutes. They said nothing, they simply stood there.
"I probably should check on the systems," Saphira said as she remembered she still had a job to do. She looked up at Springtrap, resting her chin on his chest. "Do you think starting over is something you are willing to do? At least to take a chance?"
Springtrap looked away from her. "I…I'll try, Saphira…I will try…but just know that I will pull away if I think things aren't good. I don't want you to have your hope up high."
She nodded as she understood. He let her go and Saphira stepped back for a moment. "Thank you for listening, Springtrap." She suddenly stood on her tippy toes and kissed Springtrap's cheek, making his eyes go wide in shock. "I will be in the office if you want to talk more. But thank you for listening."
Springtrap stared at Saphira as she walked away. She grabbed out the necklace to play with the pendant and Springtrap was left with all kinds of emotions. He stared at the door when she walked out, not knowing if he had just made a mistake. But it has been years since Saphira hugged him last. And he did not remember if she has ever kissed him. This was the first time a human has shown that kind of affection and he did not know how to feel or proceed for the time being.
Saphira made her way back to the office. She played with the pendent thoughtfully as she had a smile on her face. She felt like she had made significant progress with Springtrap. She knew that he cared deeply for her. She completely understood his fear of being hurt again. She did not want to do that to him. It was the last thing she wanted to do. In Saphira's heart, she still saw him as her friend. She stopped and looked back at the door to the bathroom, not knowing what was going through Springtrap's mind.
He called me beautiful…someone he does not deserve.
She smiled sadly and sniffled a little as tears fall. She could feel a blush form on her cheeks as she thought about it and she couldn't help but wonder if she really was what they all seem to claim. Saphira has never really cared about her appearance before. She actually thought she was pretty average, but the animatronics have seemed to come to an understanding of what beautiful humans look like, and she fell under the beautiful category.
She knew she might be getting a bit carried away, but she had to wonder why they considered her beautiful. It couldn't just be her green eyes or black hair, there had to be another reason. Maybe her personality, that would make sense. They seem to believe she had a good personality, and maybe that is what they saw. She wasn't sure. She thought about it for a moment and turned towards Fredbear's dining room, not knowing if the other animatronics were there.
She walked over to the door and opened it, looking inside. She widened her eyes when she saw Fredbear sitting on the stage, with his legs hanging over and he was staring at the ground. Now that was unexpected. "You look almost exactly like how I found Springtrap, Fredbear." He looked up at her with a sad expression. "Come on, is there any way I can cheer you up?"
He shrugged a little and smiled at her. "I am not sure, Saphira. I am more upset at myself at the moment. After all…I could have destroyed the only person we all considered as a true friend. And…I probably would have regretted it."
Saphira stepped through the door and walked over to the stage. "At least you now know the truth, Fredbear." She smiled as she walked up to the stage and pulled herself up to sit next to him. The animatronic gazed at her as he wondered why she was confident even sitting next to him after what he has done. "In my opinion, we should focus on trying to start again." He looked back down at the ground sadly. "It is clear that if we focus on what we had ten years ago, we're only just going to go in circles. I'd rather start fresh. Besides…I am not a kid anymore. Which means you all kind of have to learn about me again."
He smiled and nodded in agreement as he listened to her. "I guess that is true. But…I am really, really worried that something will happen to you, Saphira. And not from us. If Mike really has an intention of doing something to you if we won't…he might be crueller than us."
She wouldn't be surprised by that if that was the case. But Saphira did not know if he would do anything to her very quickly. Considering she is a new hire, and likely to be one who will stay as a night guard for longer than a week, things would really look suspicious if he did do anything. Unless he tried to do something before the end of the week. "I am aware of the risk, Fredbear. And to be honest…I am not afraid." He looked at her, not knowing how to respond. "Maybe I am crazy, to an extent. I mean…I still went to Springtrap after he crushed someone's head…but he was protecting me. And…well…I want to be able to feel like I can protect you to an extent."
"Protect us?" Fredbear was surprised and he frowned at her in confusion. "I don't think we have ever needed protecting."
"Maybe you don't think that, but I think there are reasons out there that would definitely show that you do need protecting. After all, what is to stop Mike or Mr Afton from coming in here and destroying you?" The animatronic did not think of that. "I am ninety-nine percent sure they both have had a hand in your creation. I saw the blueprints in Mike's office." Fredbear's ears twitch slightly when she mentioned the blueprints. "Plus, lists for…things that make up who you are. Everything inside you. Your heart, stomach, liver and so on…"
"I hope you are not being serious." Saphira raised an eyebrow at Fredbear. "You already found something?" She nodded. "Oh…I…that might have been a bad idea…"
"I am trying to make a point. The fact is, they would be the only ones who can kill you. I don't even know how to do that." Saphira froze with a gasp as she thought back to the crowbar in the office. "Maybe that's why it is in there…"
"What is?"
Saphira frowned a little as she thought about it. "There is a crowbar in the office."
"I know. It has always been there. Why do you suddenly think it strange?"
She looked away from him thoughtfully before looking at his body. Fredbear had a slightly withered appearance compared to Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. There were small cracks in the metal covers, and she looked at them for a moment. "I think I have a theory. Could you hold out your arm? I want to…figure out something."
Fredbear tilts his head slightly and held his arm out to her. Saphira had always thought that beneath the metal coverings would be wiring and some kind of endo skeleton, but she wanted a closer look. She rubbed her fingers over a withered gather of Fredbear's wrist and gently slid her finger inside. She felt a firm, strong, metal layer that felt different from any metal she has felt before. And to her surprise, she could feel his heartbeat pulse as she touched the inner layer. It was kind of like human flesh, but a metal kind of flesh…that is how Saphira would describe it.
Fredbear did not seem to flinch from this, it felt strange as no human's touched the inner layer of his body. He could see Saphira was thinking very deeply about it. He did not know what was going through her head right now, but he did wonder if she believed that with a certain weakness in their bodies, the crowbar was a dangerous tool to have around. But as far as Fredbear knew, the inner layer was very strong. It needed the same force as their own fists to cause any kind of dent or injury.
"I have to say…I wasn't sure what I was expecting." She removed her fingers and relaxed her hand from his wrist. "I never really noticed the inner layer…you all have on, right?" He nodded and she thought about Mangle. "What about Mangle?"
"Um, that's a little harder to explain." Fredbear smiled at her. "We all thought she did not have an inner layer too. But actually…she does. It is just she has an additional layer that makes her look like she has an exposed skeleton. So what everyone sees isn't the real thing on the inside." Saphira thought about it and shivered slightly. "Phantom Mangle has a similar thing, but she doesn't really transform much. She only does it when we are hunting or tormenting a night guard. But yeah, I can see why you are confused. You can find out if you want. I am sure Mangle won't mind."
"Right…but…the actual coverings she has when she is completely transformed are folded into weird sockets in her body…I know that for a fact." Saphira had no idea how that worked at all, but it seemed to work for Mangle. "Mike and Mr Afton are kind of a genius in that way."
"I don't understand completely either…Mangle herself says it is actually very uncomfortable when she transforms. It often feels like her coverings scratch and itch her whenever she transforms. She prefers remaining whole, as being the fake broken animatronic all the time is quite boring for her."
It really was weird to her. Saphira figured that she would accept the explanation for now and maybe take a closer look at Mangle, and do some of her own research. "I guess she kind of turns inside out…without her organs and vulnerable parts are exposed…very unique. I know Nightmare Mangle will look similar to her too."
"Nightmare Mangle, huh?" Fredbear grumbled a little. "I know there's a part being added to the Haunted Classroom…do you know what it will be called?"
She shook her head. "I only know it's based on a bedroom setting…" She chuckled a little. "I think that is going to scare the life out of so many kids…anyway, considering it will likely come out maybe around Halloween, there's a few months away. I haven't seen what they will look like. I only know they are nightmares."
Fredbear nodded slowly. "We have not had any new animatronics in years…it will be strange welcoming them to the party…but I look forward to it."
Saphira smiled at him and placed her hand on his shoulder. "I hope we can stay friends, Fredbear. I really don't know if I could live without you all now." She slid off the stage and looked at him. "Have you considered some hobby? I know Golden Bonnie reads novels…is there anything you like to do?"
"I…uh…sing sometimes." Fredbear looked over to the microphone on the stand with a smile. "I like to sing other songs that aren't the same ones I sing. But…I don't know how to play the music, so I just sing without the music."
She was happy by that. "Maybe I can help with that. If you have a song in mind, I could find the instrumental to that song, and I'll play it through the speakers for you."
"I would like that." Fredbear slid off the stage and turned to her. "But maybe some other day. I am not in the mood for singing. Actually, you just talking to me right now has cheered me up a little." He stepped forward and hugged her suddenly, making Saphira tense slightly, though she hugged him back happily. "I appreciate it."
"You are welcome."
He stepped back from her and released her from his hug. "But you really should try to keep your nose out of trouble." He tapped the tip of her nose playfully when he spoke to her with a grin. "You are already dipping your toes in the deep end."
"I guess I am." She smiled at him. "Anyway…uh…do you know where Toy Chica is?"
He looked at her in surprise. "I think she's in the Plaza with Mangle and Toy Foxy. Why?"
"I have something to ask of her." She turned away from Fredbear happily. "Thanks!"
"Uh, maybe I could answer the question," The animatronic offered.
Saphira chuckled softly and looked over her shoulder. "I am afraid not. It's kind of…about a sense of style." He did not respond and simply stared at her in style. "And I figured I would ask Toy Chica about it. Or Toy Bonnie…well, I figure out who is the best to talk about it."
Fredbear was rather confused and shrugged. "A little bit odd, but okay. I am not sure why you need to ask them about that."
"I have my own reasons. Try not stay in here all night, Fredbear. I am sure there is some game going on at the moment." Saphira smiled at him as she walked out of the dining room to walk over to the Toy Plaza.
She knew that what she said confused the animatronic. But Saphira was curious about what it was about her that made her seem beautiful. And she figured she would ask Toy Chica, though she probably could ask any of them and they would give her an answer. After all, Springtrap seems to believe she is. And she had yet to know how she felt about that at this point. Though she did know she loved him as a friend when she was a child, so it was possible to love him again. She shakes her head with a chuckle, she decided she was really getting ahead of herself with these thoughts. She knew she could be silly thinking these things…but Springtrap put them into her head first. And she could not help but think about it and question it.
