Proposal

[Manhattan, New York : 05/02/2001]

POV : Calvin Kent/Superman

Over the years, sleep for me has been more a means of relaxing and calming my mind than a means of replenishing my energy and mind.

In fact I didn't even feel hungry anymore, eating was much more of a pleasure than a need, and I don't think that will stop over time, it's strange to think that I won't feel hungry, thirsty or any such basic need for a normal human.

But even with these differences, I still find beauty in humanity and the simple things in life. The way the sun sets over the horizon, a child's laughter, the cool breeze on a hot summer afternoon - these things still bring me a sense of peace and happiness that is hard to describe.

However, there are times when my superhero life can be a burden. Saving the world day after day, fighting powerful villains and protecting the city of New York - it can all be exhausting. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth all the effort.

But then I see the smiles on the faces of the people I've helped, and I know that, yes, it was worth it. Seeing the hope and gratitude in the eyes of those who have been saved makes it all worth it. That's why I continue to fight and protect, even when it seems like there's no hope left.

I got up, had my coffee, stopped by the office and made fun of my friend and company CEO Warren Worthington III.

After an afternoon of work and research, it was time to wear the shirt and go out on patrol, the world was a very big place, and even with all my powers I couldn't be everywhere at once.

[Japan]

03:21 P.M.

An earthquake did a lot of damage in the most rural region of Japan, three small cities ended up suffering some damage and I was solving this issue, but the surprise came from who was helping me.

"You need to speed up there old man!!" Pietro Maximoff, or as the public was calling him, Quicksilver, was running at high speeds pulling people out of danger zones.

"I need to be careful, after all, any mistake and the structures can suffer from the use of excessive force." I say while using my x-ray vision to look all over the region and look for injured or buried people.

I could feel the tension in the air, knowing every second counted. Quicksilver and I worked together to get people out of the wreckage and to safety. He was incredibly fast and agile, but I had strength he didn't have, so we complemented each other well.

As we worked, I tried to stay calm and focused, focusing on saving as many lives as possible. After all, that was my mission as Superman - to protect the innocent and save the world.

Finally, after a few hours, we managed to stabilize the situation. Rescue teams arrived at the scene and started working to rescue people who were still trapped in the wreckage.

I pulled back and surveyed the scene for a moment, feeling grateful I had been given the opportunity to help. I knew that my help had made a difference for many people, and that made me happy.

But there was always a sense of sadness at times like this. After all, I couldn't save everyone. There were always people who were too far away or who I just couldn't reach in time. I knew I needed to learn to deal with this frustration, but it was difficult.

"Superman?!" A voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

"Director Fury ?" I asked in surprise.

"It's been a while. Good job with the civilians, but I have some orders that need to be followed." Fury said lighting a cigar.

His hair turned white on the sides, his eyepatch was still there, and his figure hadn't diminished with age.

"The Speaker of the UN has requested his presence for a conversation." He said.

"I understand, Director Fury. I'll be ready to go as soon as possible." I replied.

Fury nodded and handed me an envelope with the necessary information. I quickly read the contents and realized that this was an emergency meeting with world leaders to discuss potential global threats.

"I'll be there as soon as possible." I told Fury before flying away.

[Headquarters of the United Nations, Midtown, Manhattan, New York]

05:30 P.M.

Representatives of UN member countries were pretty "excited" they were mainly discussing the issues of nuclear weapons, Metahumans, and of course the issue that they are not alone in the universe.

"Why should we give up our nuclear weaponry?!, it's our only defense against critical threats!!" The representative of the United States shouted.

"To this day the issue of nuclear weapons has proved to be a knife against humanity's neck, especially in the hands of your government!!" The Chinese representative said, remembering the cases of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

"Bullshit!!, you should stop spreading lies!!" The United States Representative said irritably.

"You should focus on the real problem." The English representative said, drawing everyone's attention.

"And what would be the 'real problem', representative?" The Russian representative asked.

"The Threat of Metahumans." She answered. "We've seen a significant increase in the number of individuals with superhuman abilities. And many of them are not being properly regulated or monitored." She declared.

"And what do you propose, Representative Margaret?" The Japanese representative asked.

"I propose that the UN create a specialized agency to deal with the question of metahumans." She answered. "Such an agency would be responsible for regulating and monitoring the activity of these individuals, ensuring that they do not use their abilities for criminal purposes or to harm ordinary citizens." She finished.

Representatives from various countries began to discuss the proposal, some in favor and others against.

"Why are we discussing all this, in front of someone who isn't even one of us!!" The German Representative shouted drawing attention to himself.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have had more than enough evidence to know that we are not alone in the universe!! we are in the presence of an actual alien!!" The Representative shouted pointing at me.

General Secretary William Chester intervened.

"I must remind the German Senator that Superman despite his extraterrestrial origins has saved our world countless times, and fought to maintain peace and stability, and your assumption that he is a threat is unnecessary." The German Senator was silent after that and all representatives turned to the Chief Secretary.

"Gentlemen, I believe the world has changed a lot, since the emergence of Captain America the world has seen the possibility that humanity can go beyond its limits, either by science or by our own biology." William said looking at everyone.

"Furthermore, I would like to make a suggestion to Superman, which may perhaps contribute to the issue of nuclear weapons," the Secretary General continued.

"Superman, as an advocate for peace and justice, you are uniquely positioned to help humanity move toward a safer world. I would suggest that instead of nations relying on nuclear weapons to protect themselves, you can use its powers to destroy all nuclear warheads and be Earth's official defender."

There was a momentary silence in the room as the country representatives absorbed the Secretary General's suggestion. Some looked skeptical, others contemplative.

"What do you think of this proposal, Superman ?" William asked looking at me.
