At Principal Samejima's Office
Samejime was sitting alone at his office and he was looking at the record of student attendence, then he heard someone knocking the door and he pressed the button to allow the visitor to enter. It was Chronos. The headmaster of boys dorm was walking professionally with a smirk as head towards Samejima.
"Hi there Chronos-kun is their anything I can do?". Samejime greeted the blue headmaster
"PrincipaI you decide to admit 1st year Signore Hibiki Koyo to Ra Yellow, instead of Obelisk because he is the brother of signore Professor Hibiki who is the head of Slifer Red. But I must say signore Koyo is doing very well at school, his dueling skills are like a pro and his grades are decent, so I suggest... Why don't we promote him to Obelisk Blue and I must admit his dueling skills are better than them". Chronos was impressed to see Koyo is preforming well in class and he wants to have a student like him in his dorm.
"You are right Chronos-kun, the reason why we put Koyo-kun in Ra is because we want to avoid unnecessary controversies, but if you want him to become a Obelisk then that's no problem and I do agree with you that Koyo-kun has most of the qualifications to become a Obelisk, but he has to take up the promotional exam". Samejime explained to Chronos
"You are right, shall we organize a staff meeting and tell all the teachers to inform the students on our behalf".
"Allright". Samejime said while nodding his head in agreement.
At Class
It was day before the first exams of the year as Koyo was in Professor Satyr'a class, consisting up another lecture. After the first week, the students were in different period with different people. Koyo was lucky to have Misawa in his class, but felt cursed being with Slade and his goons. As the class ended Satyr spoke up before the students left.
"As you will know the promotional exams start tomorrow morning, headed by Principal Samejima". It''ll be smilar to entrance exame instead it''ll consist of 45 IQ questions and 5 Duel Puzzels. And there will be 30 min break before the Dueling exams, where Duelist will be paired off in order to promote to the next dorm up or in the Obelisk's case, staying were they were. If you all want to get promote to the next dorm you will have to defeat a Obelisk or your talented dormmate in a duel tomorrow. So with that, I hope you are studying well and wish you all the best".
The class was dismissed and everyone cleared out, talking amongst themselves, and among those was Slade...
"I Shouldn't have taken those exams...I am already the best Duelist here ". He said
"You the best! Hah, that's Tatsuragi-sans spot you loser!". Yuna mocked the arrogant elitist.
"Well this is Taku's 2nd year," Slade yelled. "And after he gradutes next year, I''ll be the Kaiser of Academy!"
"What a egoistic Obelisk". Koyo said to himself as he watched them arguing
"Are you ready aibou?. Koyo felt a pat on the shoulder coming from Misawa.
"Yeah, just thinking about the exams tomorrow". Koyo added
"Well not worried then... Misawa said, "The written exams should be a breeze for someone like you! And your dueling skills are Pro, just make sure you don't get paired with me".
"Your challenging me Enistein?". Koyo smirked. "We could go anytime we want!"
"Another time shouldn't we get to group studying with your sis at Slifer dorm?" Misawa asked
"Oh, right". With that both boys left the school and headed to Slifer for a tuition class with Midori.
At Slifer Red Dorm
After school Koyo and Misawa headed to Slifer Red dorm for Midori's tuition class and along with them their fellow dormmate Dimitri joined and along with them their were 8 Slifers. They are studying in Slifer Red study room for about 4 hours and were clearing their doubts for tomorrow's test. After that class was dismmised and Dimitri went back to his dorm, while Koyo and Misawa choose to have dinner with Midori before going back to their dorm. The Slifer food isn't good as Ra but the boys still enjoyed it. After dinner the boys went back to their dorm and hoped they would pass.
Test Day at Island
The next day a fleet of ships and airplanes cruised through ocean. It was like they were battling for war but in reality they were bringing some rare cards to school,
"Well everyone", the Captain spoke to his crew. "Its been a long journey, it's seems like everyone been after us with attack subs, secret spies and air force fighters but it''ll all pay off soon. We will all arise at our destination with our payload safe and intact. Now full speed ahead, this is the moment we''ve been waiting for, the moment Duel Academy gets their new rare cards!.
Koyo and Misawa were on their way to school and as they were walking they saw a middle aged woman wearing a pink blouse with blue overalls and glasses having trouble pushing a van that was out of gas by the look of things. Koyo dashed right by her, kicking up a cloud of dust around the woman. But then Koyo skidded to a stop.. He ran back behind the van and gave a helping hand. "You wanna a help miss?" Koyo asked
"On good! You must be from auto club!" The woman replied, thankful for the help
"Well don't let the yellow jacket fool you". Koyo responded a he let go of the van. " I am your average good deed dude".
"It would be nice, if I pushed!" Koyo said, pushing back the van again. "Now I can skip the gym!"
You're such a nice boy!" she said gratefully. I''ll remember this!"
In Classroom
30 min have passed, and most students were well into test already. Obelisks were already getting ahead as were the Ras, buts most Slifers were having trouble as expected of themselves. Koyo, Misawa, Yuna, Anna, and Ryo were doing the test with confidence, while Chummley was struggling.
"You have 45 min left ". Banner said to all the students writing the test or at least everyone awake...
"A field spell...counters a normal spell.." Chummley was sleeping his time away, and hadn't even worked on a single question.
"I didn't know this was an oral exam... Chummley complained.
"Hey Slacker be queit" Slade started yelling from his seat up top. "Unlike you some of us are trying to pass"
"Oh Slade..." The agreement was cut short when Banner called him to get his exam.
After another hour Banner cleared his throat, "All right children, the written exam is over, now please walk don't run to get in line form your new rare cards".
"They're here?"
"Oh dear"
As soon as those words left the professors mouth, a mass mob of students ran out of the class. Only Koyo, Misawa, Chummley, Yuna, Anna and Ryo were left.
"Everyone is greedy for rare cards" Koyo thought as he sweatshop went down his head
"Everyones at the card shop trying to improve their deck for the field test". Misawa said to Koyo, Chummley, Ryo, Yuna and Anna.
"Hey wait a sec Misawa-kun ," Yuna said "Why aren't you and Koyo in a hurry?
"Oh please, one errant card can delicate balance of my deck would be thrown off". Misawa replied
"Well I better get going, maybe I''ll have some luck on getting some new spellcasters... Koyo told to Misawa as he left out.
At Cardshop
At the card shop, the students are banging down on the steel doorm hoping to get at the cards before anybody else...
There was also some guards forming a fence between them for some reason...
The metal door opend and the cardshop was revealed. The briefcase was on a table.
It was empty much to the dismay of the students.
Koyo pushed through the crowd and saw the empty case. "Where they all go?" He asked.
A counter girl was standing by the briefcase and so was a man in a long black coat and hat. "You know the rules, first come first serve". The counter girl said.
The crowd melted away all with negative feelings of the entire ordeal.
"Darn it!" Koyo shouted . "Oh well, I better just sick of up and take it with the deck I already have!". He decide to head to the field testing room.
With Slade and his friends
Slade's friend had just explained to him what happens at the card shop. "We couldn't get you a single one, sorry, Slade".
"You know what's sorry ? You two but it doesn't matter, because there's not a single Duelist at this school who can beat me no matter what card they carry".
"Unless that Duelist happens to be Koyo Hibiki!" The 3 Obelisk turned to see a man in long coat and hat.
"Who are you?"
"Somebody who thinks you despise Koyo Hibiki as much as I do".
"That's him!" Torimaki cried."That's the sticky fingers who took all of the rare cards?"
"Rare cards, what rare cards? Oh, you mean...These!" He spread his jacket open to reveal row after row of cards.
"Enough of this cloak and dagger, tell me who you really are!" Slade yelled
"Don"t recognize me, do you Slade? Well how about now!" He threw off his hat to reveal that...
"Oh, its just Professor Noro". Slade said dismissively
Noro face faulted. "Is that any way to talk to the one who's going to help you beat Koyo Hibiki on the field test?"
"But we're not in the same dorm", Slade pointed out. "So I can't be his opponent"!
"Oh you just leave it to me, you just be sure to use these rare cards in the field test against him. And once he loses he"'ll be kicked out of the school!" Noro handed Slade a stack of rare cards.
Before the practical exam
Right before the practical exams began, Koyo caught up with Chronos and he introduce Koyo to the Kaiser of Academy .
"Well Signore Koyo if you win your duel you will get promoted to Obelisk Blue, your dormmates will be dueling against each other for this exam, but you will be dueling against a Obelisk student instead of Yellow". Chronos said to duel prodigy. He then added " The reason why I choose you to duel against a Obelisk is because your dueling skills are better than them".
"Well I don't mind about it Chronos-sensei, so who will be by opponent? Koyo asked. He has beaten many Obelisk recently.
"Signore Tatsuragi " Chronos called out the name of his opponent.
The boy showed up as soon as Chronos called him. He wears a polite smile on his face and appears to be friendly boy.
"Signore Tatsuragi is a top student of our school and his skills are top notch rivaling yours Signore Koyo, and ever since he came to our school he never lost a duel, hence he earned the title Kaiser which is reserved for top Duelist of male Obelisk. So in order words he's the king and big man on campus" Chronos added.
"Your 1st year Hibik Koyo-kun, it's nice to meet you I am 2nd year Takumi Tatsuragi, my friends call me Taku while the other students call me Kaiser". Taku introduced himself while he offers a handshake to Koyo.
"Its nice to meet you too Taku-san, and I am looking forward to have a duel with a top student like you"
"Same here, I saw your duel against Chronos-sensei during your entrance exam, and I must say I am impressed with your skills, and I have a feeling that you are one of the few opponents who will be a challenge to me". Taku compliemelted Koyo.
"I can't wait to see how strong you are Kaiser". Koyo said in a energetic challenging voice.
"He doesn't need to duel Kaiser".
The group then turned back to see Noro approaching them.
"Vice-Principal Noro!" Chronod didn't expect him to appear out of nowhere
"I have already decide who Hibiki-kuns opponent is" Noro said.
"Who is it?" Koyo asked.
"You will find out once you got to the duel field and it's a Top Obelisk student from your class". Noro replied
When Noro said he would be facing against a Obelisk student from his class all Koyo could think was it could be one of the girls Ryo, Anna, or Yuna.
"Then that means I won't get to duel against Hibiki-kun". Taku said in a comical manner as his face fault.
"I am sorry Signore Tatsuragi " Chronos apologized to the Kaiser. "If the principal and vice-principal makes a decision then I can't force them to change it". He added in a dismay tone while weeping with a handkerchief in a comical manner.
"Alright Hibiki-kun, your duel will begin within 10 min and you better go before it's to late". Noro reminded him
"Anyway I hope we have a duel at some point Taku-san" Koyo said to the Kaiser before he left.
Duel with Slade and Koyo
The field test has 6 dueling fields side by side. As Koyo walked up to his field. His opponent is none other than Slade.
Koyo gasped, "You mean I'm dueling Slade?" He asked Noro who was judgeing their exam.
"That's right Koyo," the teacher confirmed. "Since you always talk such a big game, I decide to pull some strings for you so you got the challenge you desreve. He pointed to Slade, "So congratulations, you'll be dueling one of the top ranked students at the school, what an honor! I sure hope you were able to want a lot of todays rare cards so that your decks up to snuff. What's wrong aren't you going to thank me?"
This is bad Chummley thought as he was watching the duel above the arena with the girls, Misawa and entire school who are also observing the duel.
"They can actually put a Ra Vs Obelisk? Anna asked.
"This is clearly a trap". Ryo said. "Professor Noro hopes to expel Koyo by having him duel against a powerful opponent but I am pretty sure Koyo will defeat him".
"If Koyo wins then he will become a Obelisk like us". Yuna said
"I'll do it" Koyo said confidently
Everyone gasped at Koyo'a answer .
"All right, Slade are you ready?" Koyo asked. "Now we"'ll finish what we started at Obelisk arena".
"Yeah, watch you get your ass kicked by me". Slade jabbed. They insert their deck in their duel disk
"Duel" Both Duelist shout in unison and they both have 4000 LP. Noro ran away as duel begin
Turn 1: Koyo
"I will go first, I normal summons Elemental Hero Voltic (1000/1600) in attack mode, and equips it with Voltic Spear increasing its ATK from 1000 to 2000. I end my turn". Koyo declared
Turn 2: Slade
"What a pathetic move, just wait and watch loser your going to lose in your next turn". Slade mocked his opponent. He then boasts "I can easily defeat you in one turn".
"I draw Polymerization and subsequently activates it to rise "Lord of Dragons" with Divine Dragun Rangnarok in order to Fusion Summon King Dragun (2400/1100) in attack mode. I then activates the second after of King Dragun to special summon Luster Dragon #2 (2400/1400) in attack mode. Also the effect of King Dragun prevents you from targeting my Dragon-Type monster with the effect of Spells, Traps, and monsters. King Dragun attacks and destroy Voltic. Luster Dragon #2 then attacks you directly.
Koyo cried in pain when his LP drop from 4000 to 1600
"Ouch, hero boys in trouble!"
Noro saw all this from special viewing box with Chronos, Midori, and Samejima. "My goodness" he said with fake sincerity. "Looks like Koyo can't play with the big boys after all. I guess he's not good as he thinks".
The other 3 simply stared at the window.
Turn 3: Koyo
"I draw. I set a card and end my turn". Koyo declared
"Many students gush about you being a pro but as expected loser your nothing compared to me hahahaha". Slade mocked snd then gave a evil laugh.
Turn 4: Slade
"I draw Luster Dragon and subsequently Normal Summons it (1900/1600) in attack mode. I then activates King Dragun's effect to Special Summon Hyozanryu (2100/2800) from my hand in attack mode. King Draguns attacks and destroys your set monster".
Koyo's set monster is revealed to be "Hero Barrier". Since Hero Barrier was destroyed by battle, its effect activates ending my battle phases.
Turn 5: Koyo
Koyo looked at his hands and he remembered the rare card Tome-san gave to him
Flashback at Card shop
"Darn It! Koyo shouted. "On well, I better just sick it up and take it with the deck I already have"
Koyo is disappointed their isn't any new rare cards for him, and before he left he heard someone calling out to him.
"Hey Koyo-kun".
He turned back to see Tome-san calling out to him. He then rushed towards her.
"Tome-san".
"Now I remember your Modori-Chan's younger brother, since you helped me a while ago, their was only one rare card left, and nobody noticed it so I save this pack for you . So please accept it". She told him kindly
"Tome-san you saved this for me, thank you so much". Koyo said gratefully as he took the pack from her.
Back to Present
"Yes are you ready aibou?" Koyo looked at the card with a smirk
"What are you thinking loser now hurry up and make your move". Slade remained him angrily
"I Normal Summons s Winged Kuriboh (300/200) in defense mode." Koyo declared.
"What! how can you summon that low level shrimp in defense mode?". Slade was shocked that Koyo choose to summon a low level monster in defense mode.
"The effect of your King Dargun ends."
"Looks like Koyo finally obtain the rare card". Midori said to herself as she was watching the duel from sidelines.
Some of the students are surprised while the female students are cheering for him.
"Winged Kuriboh that's a rare card". Ryo said as she was watching the duel above.
"I am pretty sure their is more in depth about that card". Anna added
"I guess we can't judge a book by its cover". Yuna nonchantly said.
Turn 6:Slade
"I set a card and end my turn". Slade declared
Turn 7: Koyo
"I activates Pot of Greed drawing two cards Polymerization and Elemental Hero Lady Heat. I activates Polymerization fusing Heat on my field and Elemental Hero Lady Heat in my hand to Fusion Summon Elemental Hero Inferno (2300/1900) in attack mode. I now attack you and your set cards directly". Koyo declared.
Slade cried in pain as his LP dropped from 4000 to 1700
"My attack is not over yet now go Inferno attack destroy all of his monsters in the feild" Koyo declared as Slade's LP dropped from 1700 to 600
"Again Inferno attack him directly".
"Damit Hibiki Koyo, I can't believe I lost to a Ra like you, I have underestimated you". Slade cursed as he gritted his teeth. He then lowered his head as the blast smashed into him. His LP dropped from 600 to 0.
After the crowd cheered for Koyo's victory, Koyo went to Slade and offer him a hand.
"That was a good duel Slade"
However Slade didn't take it and he angrily walked away without taking his hand.
"He did it!" Chummley cheered happily.
"Now Koyo will be promoted to Obelisk Blue". Anna said
"Yeah!" Ryo added.
"Slade sure is a sore loser". Yuna commented
With The Teachers
"Impossible!" Noro crowd leaning against the glass. "Not with all the rare cards I gave Slade, this can't be happening
"Rare cards, what exactly are you talking about, Noro?
Noro jumped he didn't realize he was talking out loud or that Samejima, Midori, and Chronos were listening.
"Well looks like you regret not having signore Tatsuragi duel against Signore Koyo isn't it?. Chronos asked him
Noro felt that Chronos was right, he really regrets not letting Taku the Kaiser duel against Koyo for the promotional duel, and if he has dueled against Kaiser then perhaps Koyo would lose and his plan would succed.
"Your right Chronos-kun, Tatsuragi-kun would be a challenging opponent to Koyo". Noro added
"Well that would be a intense battle". Samejima added.
"By the way were you responsible for giving all the rare cards to Slade vice-principal Noro?". Midori asked in a suspicious manner. She had a feeling that Noro was plotting to expel her brother
"Uh...nothing...I...uh... have to go grade some test". He quickly walked off.
Shephard laughed at Noro's back.
"Now my brother is promoted to Obelisk Blue?". Midori asked proudly to Samejima and Chronos, feeling happy about Koyo's sucess.
"Yes, and I will be happy to have in my dorm". Chronos said.
With Koyo and others
Koyo waved to the crowd who was cheering for him.
"Hey Hibiki-kun!". Taku, Misawa, Ryo, and Anna ran up to him.
"Congratulations Koyo-kun. It was Principal Samejime speaking over a loudspeaker. "Not only did you hold your own, but you won! Your courage against overwhelming off is...inspiring. It is with great pride that I grant you the promotion to Obelisk Blue. Good Job!"
The crowd cheered again
"You're the best, Koyo congrats!" Miswa complimented and congratulated him.
"You really are a Pro, so once I graduate next year I shall appoint you as my successor, allow me to be the first to welcome you to Obelisk Blue dorm". Taku offered
"And I''ll be the second" Anna added
"Guess I am the third". Ryo added
"Thanks" Koyo said shaking hands with all 3 Obelisk student.
At Ra Yellow dorm
The boys and Misawa were throwing a small party for Koyo at his room to celebrate his promotion.
"Well I am going to miss Koyo once he leaves, but at least we will still meet at school, and I have to wait for another year to get a neighbour". Misawa said
"I just thought Koyo would at least say goodbye to us". Dimitri said sadly.
"Hey who's talking about saying goodbyes?
The boys turned to the side to see Koyo leaning against the open doorway of the door.
"Koyo what are you doing here?" Misawa asked, and he's surprised that Koyo showed up.
"Shouldn't you be in Obelisk?". Dimitri asked.
Koyo shrugged, "Sure Obelisk Blue is fancy like a seven-star hotel, has lavish food, and en-suite bedroom and en-suite bathroom and it's luxury, but I declined because I prefer to be in Yellow, but Chronos-sensei told me I am free to join Blue any time I want"
Misawa looked up tears still going , "I thought...I thought I lost you forever! Koyo sweatdropped, "Just chill out, I will be staying here.
Dimitri and the other boys laughed at the entire ordeal.
Though Koyo declined to join Obelisk but his friends decide to celebrate his sucess, despite being proud of his sucess, they are glad he choose to stay with them.
"To us!" they said clinking their soda can together
"For our successful exam passes!" Koyo said.
"Too bad Koyo, you declined to join Blue, but at least you showed to those smug Obelisk that we Ra's can kick their ass. Dimitri said.
The entire boys burst out laughing.
Obelisk Blue Boys dorm
Slade was alone in his room, he was laying on the couch and throwing some darts on Koyo's picture.
"Wait and watch Koyo, the next time when we duel I shall be the victor.
