AN: Hey guys! I'm sorry that the updates are spaced very far apart, but I've had to do a lot of stuff at school recently. I've also been slightly discouraged with the low read count, but I'm hoping the new 1980's update spices things up a little.
My version of Ayano is slightly different. I envisioned her as a girl who cannot experience positive emotions such as happiness but she can experience negative emotions like anger or disgust. I also feel that she cannot fully feel emotions related to empathy or kindness, such as pity or sadness. She can, however, use TV Shows and her observations to know when she must feel these emotions and therefore can adequately pretend to be normal. In this way, she would be on the psychopathic spectrum, and relating her condition to a real-life disease instead of forcing her to be a soulless robot makes this fic easier to write, and also gives Ayano more depth than she originally had.
Also, I will not write any panty-shot scenes. I find them distasteful.
Anyways, thanks for reading. I will reiterate that I do not own Yandere Simulator and that this fic is non-canon, but I love it anyways. Please rate and review, your feedback keeps me going! Thanks!
Chapter 5: Dangerous Waters
Ayano joined the cooking club that very day and focused all her efforts on making an impression on Amai, helping her out when her arm hurt, or just being pleasant to talk to in general. She wanted to make her feel as if she could trust her. She couldn't help but notice that Amai had a lot of acquaintances but very few, if any "friends". Most people seemed to be put off by the kind, yet depressed aura that she seemed to radiate.
Not surprising, given the circumstances she has to endure, Ayano thought as she sliced some lotus roots for a tempura dish.
Once the cooking club wrapped up, Ayano offered to help carry Amai's bag to her house, as it was quite heavy and Amai only had one good arm at the moment. She agreed and the two walked home, exchanging tidbits and light banter. Ayano noticed that Amai got more and more nervous as she walked home, to the point that her walk slowed to a shuffle as they entered her street.
"H-hey, thanks for everything Ayano! I'll handle it from here." Amai stammered, trying to hide the tremble in her hands. Ayano narrowed her eyes at the sight, but nodded nonetheless.
"Alright! Take care Amai!" she said, before turning back to give the impression that she had left. Amai slowly walked on and entered the bakery. Their house was the flat right on top of it. Ayano bided her time, observing people buying bread and the routines of the shopkeepers surrounding the bakery. She was trying to look for an opening to infiltrate the house. This would prove to be difficult as many of the surrounding shops had security cameras that would catch her entering the house.
She took a walk around the area and found that one of the shops behind the bakery was unoccupied. If she could manage to make a jump over the wall, she would end up right next to the trash cans before the bakery. She gathered a few empty crates from the surrounding area and positioned them at the bottom of the wall such that she would be able to vault over the wall easily. Phase one was over.
She hung around some more, and once the surrounding shopkeepers packed up and left, she jumped over the wall and hid behind the trash cans at the back of the bakery. The employees at the bakery had already left, and the Odayaka family had retired to their home. A conveniently placed ladder allowed Ayano access to one of the windows, which appeared to be Amai's bedroom, however she wouldn't risk THAT much at this point in time. She had other ideas.
She picked up the phone and texted Info-Chan, asking her for a bug she could place at the windowsill.
Info-Chan picked up the phone lazily, already fed up of how Ayano wouldn't give her anything to work with. She was more in control than her mother was, refusing to commit murder unless she had no other choice, and she knew she had A MULTITUDE of other choices.
She peered over the text. A bug was easy for her, she was the daughter of a journalist, and knew where people could acquire such devices. However, she would not let her off easy.
"Yeah, I have just what you need." Info-Chan responded. "However, you'll need to do me a small favour…"
Ayano saw red when she peered at the screen and saw Info-Chan's text.
"Stuck up bitch..." she whispered under her breath. Nevertheless, she knew she didn't really have a choice. It was either this… favor or spending tons of money at a tech shop.
Info-Chan would give her a bug alright, but she would have to place it in the Headmaster's room. After all, Info-Chan didn't provide services for free. Hopefully, Info-Chan thought, this would get Ayano on Kocho's radar.
Ayano wondered how she would go about doing this. The Headmaster wasn't a particularly friendly person, he was quite the opposite actually. He was sullen and angry, quite cold too. She couldn't just saunter into his room for a chat. She would have to watch him closely, without being noticed.
Ayano hung around the corridor leading to the Headmaster's room whenever she had some spare time, hoping to get an understanding of the Headmaster's routine. Unfortunately, he rarely ever left his room except during lunch breaks, and even then, he came back after using the microwave to heat up his bento. This would give her around 5 minutes of time.
She wanted to observe for a few days, but out of the corner of her eye, she could see Amai sidling up to her senpai, asking for his help, discussing books, chatting a lot… Ayano was sure she would be asking him to walk her home, and Senpai was already a kind fool, so he wouldn't be refusing that offer. She had to speed up.
She would place the bug during lunch the following day.
The next day, Ayano feigned feeling nauseous in order to get a hall pass a few minutes before break time. She stalked over to the corridor and waited for the Headmaster to leave. Sure enough, he emerged from his room a few moments later, carrying a bento box. Ayano had hoped that he wouldn't see her, but it just didn't work out that way.
She and the Headmaster locked eyes for a split second, and Ayano could swear that he looked at her differently from the way he looked at other students during morning assemblies. His look was… angry, with hatred shining in his eyes. He looked over her in a disgusted, almost aggressive manner before turning back and resuming his trip. After he rounded the corner, Ayano darted into the room, and attached the bug under his table in such a way that it wouldn't be noticed during cleaning sessions. She heaved a sigh of relief and left the room quickly, just as the Headmaster was coming back. He eyed her retreating figure suspiciously, and while he did not see her actually leave his room, his paranoid nature forced him to do a double take when he entered his room, checking for files or other important documents that she might have taken. He found nothing out of the ordinary though, and went on with his day, oblivious to the bug that was recording every word he said.
"She… She's just like her… The same energy, the same look in her eyes. Almost as if she's dead, but not quite. There is a sadistic aspect to her, but patient too, as if she's waiting for bad things to happen. I have no doubt in my mind that her nature is the same as her mother's. I begged Mr. Saikou to let me remove her from the premises, but he wouldn't let me… I'll have to take matters into my own hands…" Kocho whispered into his microphone as he made another tape for himself. He found that putting his thoughts into words and then listening to them made things clearer. It also helped him relax a little. He had a large set of these tapes dating all the way to the 80's, when he first started out as the Headmaster. He never really thought about what would happen if these tapes got into the hands of the wrong person…
Ayano texted Info-Chan again, and was told to go to the bushes near the incinerator to get her bug. Sure enough, buried deep within the leaves was a small box containing the necessary equipment. Ayano would go back to Amai's house at night to place it on her windowsill.
The night was uneventful. She easily hoisted herself up on the ladder and was able to attach the bug to an area that fell behind a heavy curtain quickly. She confirmed the connection on her phone and went on her merry way.
Late at night, as she sat awake, waiting for her proof, the app for the bug alerted her that a conversation was going on. Sure enough, Amai's father had begun his disgusting tirade against his daughter yet again. The words he used, the noises of violence in the background and finally, grunts and pants accompanied by silent crying… This was enough. She recorded every last bit of it and made several backups on her computer.
Tomorrow, she would see Mr. Odayaka.
