Thanks to the teamwork of Triton and Shantae, the Water Lily Siren had been defeated. The two hybrids leave the siren's chamber the same way they came in. They find Plink waiting for them outside. She takes notice of Triton smiling, which she thought was a recent development. "You two made it… good," she said with a sigh of relief.
"Plink," said Triton. "We just defeated a siren." Plink gasped in shock. "If these pirates aren't the ones responsible for your kidnapping, it must be the sirens. Because they could be more powerful than any half genie."
Then Shantae stepped in and said, "But, you were right about that newt magic. That truly helped us defeat the siren. I never knew I could transform like that."
Triton nodded in agreement, "Yeah, if it wasn't for you, we would've never found a way to beat her."
Plink smiled, "Harmony says that by working together, we can do anything." Then she starts thinking about Harmony and the other half genies. "I do hope she's okay."
Triton takes pity and smiles, giving her hope. "Don't worry Plink. Shantae and I will help find her and the other half genies. I may not be a half genie, but I will gladly help in any way I can."
Plink smiles, and so does Shantae. 'It's like he wants to be a hero,' thought Shantae. 'Same as me…'
"Oh!" perked Plink. "I just remembered something."
"Huh? What is it?" asked Shantae.
"Triton mentioned working together," siad Plink. "So what if we combine our magic?"
Triton and Shantae were confused. The idea that half genies could combine their magic was an unexpected trait to learn "Combine our magic?" Shantae asked. "Is that even possible, Plink?"
Plink nodded, "Of course. Look, those fusion coins are forged from fusion stones."
"Okaaay," said Shantae.
"And those fusion stones come from right here on the island. A tiny amount, like what was in that coin, gave Shantae the abilities of a Newt. But if we had an entire fusion stone…"
"...You could share all your powers to Shantae?" Triton asked.
"Yes!" Plink replied.
Triton felt really impressed. "That…sounds…"
"Like a terrible idea!" The two turned to Shantae who was not keen on the idea. "No way! I'm going to let you give your magic away!"
"Why not?" Triton asked.
"Yeah," said Plink. "It would only be temporary." Shantae and Triton turn to Plink. "We'll merge our magic into one big powerful Spectacular Super Star Genie!"
"With such power like that," said Triton. "We could smash these monsters and find your friends in no time."
"And by the time you're done with our powers," said Plink. "You can just give them back."
Shantae was hesitant to start with. But Triton was firm on the decision. "Come on Shantae. It's like she said, it's not permanent, and you have the ability to give them back their magic. If I were you, I'd take that offer. Think of all the good you could do with it."
"Just find the fusion stone and meet me in Arena Town," said Plink. "And remember, if you ever forget where to go next, try talking to everyone." Plink gets ready to head back topside. "I'll be waiting for your answer backstage!"
But before she could go, Triton stopped her. "Wait! When you get topside, there's something else I'd like for you to do." Plink took a moment to hear his request. "See if you can find any more knowledge recorded about the sirens," replied Triton. "We need to know everything if we are to defeat them."
Plink nodded in agreement. She wanted to find her friends in any way possible. Whether it be giving up her magic, or by obtaining knowledge of sirens supposedly hidden beneath the island. And with that, she vanished into thin air.
"Okay," said Shantae. She took a moment to think about Plink's offer, and thanks to Triton's words of encouragement, she made her decision. "If we are to ever find a fusion stone, we should start looking."
Triton smiled with delight, but thought back to what that siren said to him. If a hybrid like himself could have the same powers of a siren, then what would that mean to him? Would he find the answers he seeks for himself? "So, where do we start?" he asked.
"We should start looking in Arena Town," replied Shantae. "If what Plink said is true, and if there is a fusion stone around here somewhere, then we should talk to the townsfolk and see if they have one of those."
Triton legs began to shake with excitement. But, he also felt fear. Never before had he stepped onto the surface of the island he lived his whole life. And now the time has come to step out of the dark caves and into the light of the surface.
"Well," he said. "Thanks to your newt dash, we can climb the holes above us and find a cave out of here." He looked at his hand and started to frown. "But Shantae…" She turns to him with a concerned look. "Before we go, can you not tell anyone about my condition? As far as the surface should know, I am a human being."
Shantae looked at him with regret and understanding. He did not commute with others outside of his home. All he ever did was fight for food, and leave his enemies laying in the dust. She sighs heavily, acknowledging his request. "Of course," she said. "Now come on! Last one up top is a rotten apple!"
Meanwhile, somewhere in the depths of the island, a large mysterious shadowy figure loomed in the darkness with smaller shadowy figures. The large shadow glared down at five smaller figures with an angry snarl. "What do you mean she is gone?" asked the leader. "I gave her the simplest task of safeguarding the Seer genie!" She slams her fist into a column causing it to crack.
"It's not her fault," said one of the small shadows. "Our sources tell us that two hybrids took down Water Lily. They plan to find the other half genies." As the shadow delved into detail, the larger shadow crept up to them. Slowly looming, slowly angry. "O-o-one was a half genie, and the other-"
SMACK! The shadow slapped the other in the face. "HOW CAN THERE BE A HALF GENIE LOOSE ON THE ISLAND!?" She thundered. "I thought you caught them all!" The small shadow picked themselves up after that powerful smack. They touched their cheek and winced in pain.
"But… the other hybrid…" They kept their composure, keeping their tears from pouring down their face. "He can make high pitched screeches… Like a siren." The large shadow stood in shock. They took a deep breath and loomed away from the smaller shadows.
"If what you say is true. Then, our plan is not lost. For so long we've been hiding down here, feasting on scraps wherever we could find. Now the topsiders will know the true meaning of suffering, pain, and humiliation." They wave their hand to the group. "Search the entire island for that hybrid! Put the word out! There's a big bounty of food for his capture alive! FIND HIM!
The hybrid screeches an echo wave, causing the nearby sea creatures to work their way up to the surface. The other five shadows start retreating to the ground and work their way through the waters of the hidden caves.
Back above ground, thanks to Plink's Dash Newt, Shantae and Triton reach a cave that leads to the shore near Arena Town. Shantae was thrilled to be back topside. While Triton was skeptical with his decision. Nearing the exit of the cave he grew more anxious and anxious.
Shantae looked back to him just when she left the cave's entrance. "It'll be okay," she said. "I promise, nothing bad is going to happen to you." She takes out her hand reaching for Triton's.
Triton looked up to Shantae, finding a glimmer of hope in her eyes. He wanted to believe he could have a chance with the topsiders, but was always too afraid to do so. Now, he has a friend who was willing to give him a chance. And after years of living in isolation, he shuts his eyes, takes Shantae's hand, and leaves the cave into the sunlight.
He opens his eyes and looks down to his feet feeling the soft sand beneath him. Plus the warmth of the sun shining on his skin, made him feel as warm as the sand. He looks up to the sun, blocking the light from his eyes. And then, Triton started to smile with excitement.
"This is amazing, Shantae," he said. "I never thought the sun could feel this warm." Then out of nowhere, a wave of water hits his legs, sweeping him off his feet and into the water. As he got up, he could feel his legs reveal his fish scales to Shantae. His feet turned into webbed feet like He stood in shock. "Uhhhh…"
But Shantae just laughed. "Hahahahaha, that was funny." But she stopped, remembering how sensitive Triton was with his condition. "I mean, the way you fell down is funny. Anyone can get swept off by the ocean. There's nothing to feel ashamed of."
Triton dried off his legs and they reverted back to human form. "Well, if you're that sure…" he said.
The two make it to the outskirts of Arena Town and Triton gazes at the community. "It'll be a breeze," said Shantae. "Just don't get wet." She marches into the town, with Triton following close by.
Triton was not the tough guy he was when he was below ground. On the surface, he truly felt like a fish out of water. But as he saw the townsfolk chatting with one another, he saw what could be a great opportunity. A chance to finally fit in like he always wanted. He looked across town, finding people in open door restaurants, kids sitting on balconies, clothes hanging on racks.
He looks over to see two citizens come out with ice cream. One of them accidentally dropped their ice cream on the floor, but the other shared theirs with them. Triton went over to the ice cream, bent over and took a small lick. The touch of the flavor swirled with delight and happiness. It tasted like he was in paradise. He scarfs down on the ice cream, causing people to gasp in disgust. Shantae included.
She drags him away from the scene. "That is not how we eat around here," she said. "And besides, we don't have time to eat. We need to find the fusion stone and get Plink's seer powers."
"What was I supposed to know?" asked Triton. "That tasted so good. And so what if I ate on the ground? Most clams and crabs I ate crawl all over the sea bed. Catching a fish down there is like catching a buffet."
Shantae gets grossed out hearing him talk about raw fish, she almost puked in her mouth. "Look, let's just get this over with," she said. She looks over to a villager dressed in green, with blue hair and brown skin. "Excuse me, do you know where we can find rare artifacts on this island?"
"I'm not sure," replied the villager. "But you should try asking the new unusual woman who just arrived in town. She has very large goggles, you can't miss her. She might know a few things about strange artifacts."
"Okay," said Shantae. "Come on, Triton. It sounds like a good lead." The two make their way in the center of town to find the new woman that just arrived.
But as Triton lagged behind, due to his fascination with the town, he heard a strange yelp coming from a room above him. The next thing he knew, was that a young male adult came flying out of the room, and landed on top of him. That young male was none other than Bolo.
"Uhh, oh come on!" he complained. "Now I can't get my favorite weapon back!" He soon realized that he landed on someone and got off of him instantly. "Oh, sorry dude. I didn't see you there."
Triton groaned, "No no, it's okay. Just another way of saying hello to me, by dropping in and landing on top of my face!" He feels his face to know if his nose is crooked. "I swear this thing could get crooked before I'm done with this place."
Bolo stared at Triton with curiosity. "You are not from around here, are you?" he asked.
"Actually," said Triton. "I lived on this island my whole life. I just don't do well with others. I only take a few exceptions."
"Like who?" asked Bolo.
Triton looks around to see that he lost his partner and guide. "Oh great," he groaned. "Now I've lost Shantae. Where am I going to find her in this crowded town?"
Bolo perked up at the mention of her name. "How do you know Shantae?"
"Uhh, we encountered each other in…" Triton had to be careful. He couldn't let anyone he didn't know learn that he came from the underground caverns. So he had to come up with a lie to protect himself. "A tour group outside of town. We strayed away from the group and we came back here."
"Oh," said Bolo. "Well then, if you're Shantae's friend, then that makes you my friend too. I've known Shantae for such a long time." He holds out his hand for a handshake. "My name's Bolo. What's yours?"
Triton takes his hand and shakes it. "My name's Triton," he replies. "So, what was all that business up there?"
Bolo sighed, "I just dropped by the bath house to get a good look at the ladies. But now that I got caught peeping, they took all my weapons from me. Including my favorite flail." He sulked and sat down in defeat. "Now how am I going to get it?"
"What if I can get it for you?" asked Triton. "I mean no one knows who I am, and it'll just be a few minutes. I could swipe it off their hands in no time."
Bolo smiled at Triton. Even though he just met, he was willing to help him. "That's great! The bath house is just above you. Look for the confiscation box and find a ball with spikes and a chain. You can't miss it, it'll be easy to spot. I'll be waiting for you outside."
Triton nodded and climbed up to the Arena Town's bath house. Inside, the bath house looked clean and soothing. And mist vaporized everywhere. The moment Triton felt the mist, he realized that it was water vapor, which means he slowly started turning into his fish form.
He had to find Bolo's flail and fast. Luckily, no one was around when he changed form. He searched high and low for the flail, even looking over the front desk of the reception area. By looking behind the desk, he finds the flail and snatches it. But just as he was about to leave, he heard a couple of voices coming from the front door. He stayed hidden from plain sight and crouched behind the desk.
"I just hope we don't have any problems with that pervert," said the receptionist. She takes a deep breath and sits down at her desk going over her books. Then, she caught a whiff of a strange smell. "Ugh," she groaned. "Why does it smell like rotten fish all of a sudden?"
Triton closed his eyes, and something happened to him that he didn't know he could do. His fish scales started to blend in the environment, even his clothes too. He was instantly invisible to the naked eye.
As the receptionist got back up, she stumbled out the front door for some fresh air. This gave Triton a chance to escape, but he stopped himself. He took a slow whiff of the environment around him and it smelled very fresh. Then, he stopped to whiff himself and realized he only washes himself with sea water. So to blend in with the crowd, he decided to wash up quickly in the bath house.
He signed in for one wash up, took as many towels as he could so no one would see him, and entered the bath water. The bath water was hot, which made Triton flinch. But after a while, he started to relax, loosen up, and unwind. He takes some of the soap and fragrances to blend in with the town and rubs it on his scales and hair fins. His scales started to shine like the moon in the night sky.
As he finished up, he wrapped himself with multiple towels and took his leave. But not until he was stopped by the receptionist.
"Excuse me," she said. "Did you have a reservation? Not everyone goes into the bath house freely."
Triton shivered, "Uhh… yeah. My name is in the book over there." He points over to the book with the towels still covering him. As the receptionist looked away, Triton bolted as quietly as possible. And after looking at the book, the receptionist looked up to see he wasn't there anymore.
Outside the bath house, Triton dried himself off quickly, changing him back in his human skin. And luckily for him, Bolo saw him just as he threw away his towels. "Oh, hey Bolo!" He pulls out his flail and hands it over to him. "Sorry I took longer than I thought."
"It's okay," said Bolo. He swings his flail around, then hits it on the ground. "As long as I got my flail back. Thank you, Triton. How can I ever repay you?"
"Let's hold off on that until I can think of something," replied Triton. "Let's get this back to your hut before they catch wind it's gone."
The two make their escape all the way out west of the resort. "So where's your resort room?" asked Triton. "Because I was under the assumption that it would be in Arena Town."
"It's not that far from the resort," replied Bolo. "But if you ask me, it's not the ideal place I wanted to stay for the week. I mean come on! Shantae and Sky's room has a view of a clean pool filled with ladies. And our pool is… well, it's best if I showed you."
Triton was concerned about Bolo's fascination with women. The only time he's seen two mates get together were a few crabs here and there. But he's never seen human behavior with males and females. "Don't you think you're pushing yourself to find a girl?" he asked.
"I don't think you understand," said Bolo. "You need to see how beautiful women are at first glance." He finds a path that takes them back to the Arena Town pool. "Come on, I'll show you myself."
The two make their way to the pool, making sure no one sees them. They watch as a couple of women in swimsuits exit the pool, and dry off in the sun. Bolo was awestruck at how beautiful they were. Triton, however, thought otherwise. "Are you sure this is what we do?" he asked.
"Of course," said Bolo. "That way you get a better view."
"That's not the right way to get a girl's attention," said Triton. "I've seen a few male crabs find females during mating season. And the best way they get the girl is a traditional mating dance."
He climbs out of his hiding spot and walks out into the sun. Bolo tried signaling Triton to come back, but he didn't listen. The two women watched him do his crab dance. They were confused by the dance, but were enamored by his looks.
"Excuse me," he said. "Do you know where I can find someplace to drink?" Unable to speak, thanks to Triton's voice, they point over to one of the tiki bars not far from the poolside. "Thank you kindly," said Triton as he walked away like a crab.
The women swoon over his mannerisms, but then they spot Bolo hiding in the bushes not far from them. They gave him a creepy vibe as they backed away slowly. But as he jumped out of the bushes, "Ladies…" They give him a smack to the face.
Bolo meets up with Triton at the tiki bar seeing him drink coconut juice. "Gotta say," said Triton, "You villagers sure know how to improve flavor in drinks. Coconut doesn't taste so bad."
"How did you do it?" Bolo painted. "How come they liked you instead of me?"
Triton shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know. I was just acting like a crab, I got thirsty, and asked for help. They helped me, and I said thank you. You should try not thinking about creeping on people and just focus on yourself. The more happy you are, then maybe someone will come around."
Bolo thought for a moment and said, "Let's get back to my hut, I've had enough disappointment for one day." The two take their leave from the tiki bar and make their way back to Bolo's hut. The hut is revealed to have the scenery of a tropical tree. Triton was most pleased with how it looked. But for Bolo's case, it was the exact opposite.
"This is where you sleep?" Triton asked. "It looks much better than where I live. More tropical."
"Only for the week," said Bolo. "I'm on vacation with Shantae, her Uncle Mimic, and Sky. "But I swear, Shantae and Mimic packed like they're staying for a month. And speaking of her Uncle, I'm sharing this hut with him as we speak."
"Where is Mimic anyway?" Triton asked.
"He said he was still studying the ancient ruins of the underground city," replied Bolo. "He should be back at some point. So, what was that dance you were doing?"
"The crab's mating dance," said Triton. "It's not that hard." He gets into a crab scuttling squat pose and holds his arms out. "You just slowly wave your arms, and then shimmy an instant to one side." Triton shows Bolo the steps and Bolo slowly follows his lead. "That's it," said Triton. "Now keep in mind it doesn't work on everyone, only a few."
As they both perform the crab mating dance, Shantae comes in and finds the dance hilarious. Her chuckling gets their attention. "Hehehe, Bolo, Triton, what are you guys doing?" she asked.
"Triton was just showing me the crab's mating dance," replied Bolo. "He's showing me his way of getting the ladies' attention."
Shantae just laughed as Triton smirked. "Well it's working," said Shantae.
"Sorry I couldn't find you Shantae," said Triton. "I just got so enamored by the town I lost sight of you."
"It's okay," said Shantae. "So Bolo, what are you and Triton doing over here?"
Bolo looked surprised. "What, did you forget? You and Sky got a room with the pool. Your uncle and I got this place."
"It looks cool," said Shantae and Triton at the same time. The two looked at each other, smiled, and laughed.
"It stinks," said Bolo. "This pool over here is swimming with fluke worms. And I'm starting to think it's not even a pool. The water is thick, and smells like mustard. I went for a dip and when I got out there was a thing on my foot." He points to the waste bin. "I put it in the trash can, over there."
Triton goes over to the waste bin, digs through and picks out what looks like a barnacle. "Wow," he said as he brushed his finger on the barnacle. "This barnacle is really smooth. More smooth than any other barnacle I've ever seen."
"If you happen to see a doctor, show them that thing from the trash can," said Bolo. "Hope I don't turn into a gigantic, throbbing pustule!"
"You'll be fine," said Triton. "Barnacles are only small crustaceans that only stick to surfaces they choose. This one is young, and didn't like where he was attached to. If you ask me Bolo, you were the lucky one.
"How do you know so much about crustaceans?" asked Bolo.
"Let's just say, crustaceans fascinate me in many ways," said Triton. "I studied them while I was stationed in a cove. For four weeks I've studied their moves, their diet, and their behavior."
Shantae was impressed with his knowledge. Especially since she knows he's telling a half truth. As a matter of fact, she was also impressed with how well he's getting along with Bolo. Before long Triton used to be a loner underground, and now. Now he's topside making new friends.
"Uh, Triton," said Shantae. "We should get going. We still have a rare item to find."
"Huh?" said Triton. "Oh yeah! Bolo, got to go. Nice meeting you, hope we meet up again. I'll take this barnacle off your hands."
"You can keep it, Triton," said Bolo. He waved goodbye. "Nice meeting you too!"
But before they could leave the hut, it started to rain. One of the mysterious shadow figures called upon the sea. The call brought the clouds together and created a raincloud. And since it is casted by the creature, this spell could last for a while.
"That's strange," said Shantae. "The weather forecast didn't say rain would be coming." She turns back to Triton who is looking worrisome. He knows that if he goes out in the rain, his fish scales would reveal themselves.
Luckily, Shantae found an umbrella nearby. She opens it up and turns to Triton. "This'll help protect you from the rain." She offers it to him, allowing the rain to pour on her. "It's okay, I don't mind the rain. And besides, I want you to feel safe. You have friends now. You have me as a friend. I know it all seems new to you, but it's a wonderful thing."
Triton looked at the umbrella and looked at Shantae smiling at him. He started to feel a warm sensation in his chest. One he didn't feel in a long time. He takes a deep breath, takes the umbrella, touching Shantae's hand for a moment. The umbrella suddenly closes on him and Shantae and Triton have a good laugh. The two then venture their way back to Arena Town.
Bolo looked really confused, "What's up with him? Is he afraid of getting wet?"
The shadow creature was really upset with the umbrella that they kept the rain pouring in town. The crowd started to scatter, taking shelter from the rain. Shantae and Triton make their way into the item shop before the rain could pour down harder.
The two enter the shop, along with a few customers. Triton finds a way to close the umbrella and Shantae drenches the water out of her hair. The customers could see that the storm was bad, and feel unlucky to be stuck at the moment. But one customer wasn't letting rain ruin their day.
"We should get something for your hair tailwhip," said Triton. "Wouldn't want to get these people wet now, would we?"
Shantae laughed. "You may have a point," she said. She takes her hair and ties it up in a bun. "Let's go see if this place has any shampoo or conditioner." Shantae and Triton split up to cover more ground.
Triton searched on the left side of the shop, while Shantae searched on the right. While they were looking, Triton discovered an aisle of souvenir clothes. He looks down on his own rags and realizes he sticks out like a sore thumb. Not to mention the hole in the bottom of his pants, which made the crowd uncomfortable.
Triton takes a white and blue Tommy Bahama shirt, a pair of khaki shorts, and a pair of flip flops. He puts them on and continues his search for Shantae's shampoo or conditioner. "Well," he said to himself. "Looks like I can blend in no problem."
"You got that right." Triton turns to see Shantae with a bottle of conditioner. She smiled as she looked at Triton's new outfit. "I gotta say, now you definitely look like a tourist."
Triton smiled. "Let's get out of here," he said. But suddenly, he was stopped by Shantae. She grabbed him by his arm, before he could make another step.
"Hold on," said Shantae. "We still have to pay for these." Triton stood in confusion, and Shantae was surprised. "You don't know how to pay, do you?" She gets a response with Triton shaking his head no.
Shantae shook her head with a smile and said, "Don't worry, I'll show you." She goes up to the counter where the cashier is standing. "I would like to purchase for myself and on behalf of the young gentlemen right here," said Shantae. "He's in need of some clothes."
"Well," said the cashier. "You know the old saying: You wear it, you buy it." They sum up the total and Shantae gives the cashier the right amount of money. Triton stood and watched. It looked like she was trading coins for items. "Thank you and have a nice day. The both of you," said the cashier. "Next."
"Thank you, Shantae," said Triton. "How can I ever repay you for this?"
Shantae smirked. "You could pay me back for the clothes somehow," she replied.
Triton reached into his old pants pocket and pulled out the smooth barnacle and a gold nugget. Knowing that this is all he could give her at this moment, he offers them to her. "You can have these, if they'll cover the cost," he said.
Shantae smiled and said, "I think the gold nugget will be enough. That kind of artifact can cover anything we purchased here today."
"Excuse me," said another voice. The voice behind them was revealed to be a woman with goggles, her hair was strapped in a bun with a hair tie with a watch on it. She wore a light tan shirt with a black apron and black pants.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am a deep sea explorer. My mission is to study the history of this island with my crew. Our vessel, the Metal Fish, is a deep sea Submersible. Just docked near a trench off the island's East side. I want to learn the secret origins of the sunken city. Who built it, and why? What made it sink? And most importantly, could it still contain life?"
"You really like to hear yourself talk don't you?" Triton asked. Shantae nudged his shoulder in response to his rude question.
"So, you wanted to speak with us?" she asked.
The deep sea explorer nodded and said, "I was wondering if you were willing to trade for the arthropod life form your friend has obtained. I would like to have it to continue my research."
Shantae looked at the smooth barnacle and turned to Triton. "You want to trade that barnacle?" she asked.
"I suppose it would be a nice gesture," said Triton. "But what do we get in return?"
"I have this," replied the explorer. She reached into her pocket and showed them a rare stone. Shantae and Triton have a pretty good idea what that stone is.
"It's a fusion stone," said Shantae. She gazed at its beauty with glamor. "It's amazing."
Triton gives the explorer the smooth barnacle, and she gives them the stone in return. She was most impressed with the qualities the barnacle had. She took out another barnacle and did some comparisons.
"How could two creatures discovered at widely different elevations have so many things in common? It suggests that the island itself has suffered a turbulent past! Perhaps volcanic activity caused the city to sink! And as a result, the island was showered by those strange rocks. Which were belched skyward from deep within the belly of the Earth! Rocks like that one."
"Triton looks back at the fusion stone and turns again to the explorer. "That's quite an interesting theory about this island's past," he said.
"Thank you so much," said Shantae, with a calming smile on her face.
"You're welcome," said the explorer. "And thank you for helping me with my research. Please pay a visit to the Metal Fish sometime." And with that, the explorer took her leave from the gift shop.
At the same time, the rain instantly stopped. Shantae and Triton were most pleased with the outcome. But the mysterious figure looked as if it was out of breath, and retreated back into the ocean. Shantae and Triton take their leave from the gift shop and head backstage to find Plink waiting for them.
"Hi!" Plink cried out. "You're back! And you found a fusion stone!" Shantae shows the stone to her. "With it, we'll be able to combine our genie magic and save Harmony and the others!"
Triton and Shantae smile with delight as Plink takes the stone and offers it to Shantae. "Are you ready to try merging our magic Shantae?"
Triton nods at Shantae in agreement, and Shantae turns to Plink. "Yes I am!" She responded. She takes her hand on the stone and the two genies concentrate on combining their magic. "Oh boy! This is going to be sweet!"
The magic of the fusion stone started glowing brighter and brighter as a light filled the room. Triton turned away, covering his eyes. The bright light diminishes and the light transfers itself from Plink to Shantae in an instant. The light consumes through Shantae and then the light vanishes.
Triton looks back at the two. "Did it work?" He asked.
"Yes," said Shantae. "It's so incredible, I feel like dancing!" She starts to sway her hips and gives off a magical aurora. Triton and Plink smile at the success.
"Our powers have combined," said Plink with excitement. "The Seer Dance can reveal things that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye. Try testing it in this room!"
Shantae performs the seer dance and as a result, she could see a couple of platforms with her own eyes. As Shantae jumped onto the hidden platform, Triton gave off an angelic chord. As he did, an echo from his chord flashed the platforms in plain sight. Plink and Shantae were surprised, Triton was shocked. But he took a deep breath and sang the same chord, causing the platforms to appear for the three to see.
"Triton! How did you do that?!" Shantae asked.
"I don't know," replied Triton. "All I did was think that the fusion stone worked, and all of a sudden, this happened. I knew I could shatter glass walls with my voice, but to make things appear, that's another thing."
"I think it's because of what you are," replied Plink. "I've learned that various creatures from the orcas to the mermaids use echolocation as a tool to locate various things. So whatever you are, you could be a hybrid of one of those creatures."
Triton was intrigued at Plink's statement. "I'm not sure if that's helpful enough," he said. "But thanks for bringing that up. Speaking of, have you learned anything about the sirens?"
"Not these sirens specifically," replied Plink. "But I do know that there's not a lot of history recorded on this island. And if there were, it would be located underground. I wish I could be more clear with what I'm trying to see."
Triton looked into Plink's eyes and could see her serenity. Being very eager to know more about the sirens, and about himself and where he came from. He decided he'll take whatever help he can get from the half genies. But he'd have to find the truth on his own.
"Thank you for your help Plink," he said. "I hope we can find more information about the sirens."
"We will," said Shantae, placing a hand on his forearm. "Until then, let's go find Harmony and the others." Triton looks down on her hand touching him, Shantae realizes this and quickly takes her hand off him. She blushes lightly afterwards.
"Well, I'm certain that the seer dance will help you on your quest," said Plink. She waved them goodbye as they left backstage. "Just remember to try it everywhere!"
Shantae and Triton leave the stage and walk in the streets of Arena town. Unsure with what to do next, Triton decided to talk with Shantae. "So Shantae, has there ever been a time when you couldn't use magic?"
Shantae turned to Triton and said, "Actually, there was. I was fighting that pirate Risky Boots in an effort to keep Scuttle town safe. And so in the final fight, she stole all my powers, planning to use my dark counterpart against me. But thanks to my friends, I was able to stop her. But I lost my genie powers in the process."
Triton was impressed. "I gotta say Shantae, you have guts to keep protecting your home, even after losing your powers." He sighed, "What I would give to just be human." He looks at his hand with gloom.
Shantae decided to try to cheer him up. "You know, what did you think about Arena town?"
Triton looked to the half genie with some hope in his eyes. "I think it was the greatest experience of my life. I got a chance to meet one of your friends, learn how to pay for items, and unlock new abilities. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best topside adventure I've ever had."
Shantae was just about to speak, when out of nowhere a villager came up to them and said, "Where in the world is Tree Town? I checked the Western Shoreline, but there's nothing over least, nothing I can see."
"Don't worry," said Triton. "I'm sure it'll turn up somewhere." The villager leaves them, and Shantae and Triton look at each other with a smile on their faces. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"
Shantae nodded, "I think it's time to put that Seer Dance to good use." The two make their way to the Western Shoreline in hopes of finding another half genie on the island. Triton looks to Shantae with newfound hope that maybe people would accept him for who he is. If not everyone, then maybe Shantae's friends and family.
