SONG: So maybe it's true…That I can't live without you…And maybe two is better than one ~ Two Is Better Than One by Boys Like Girls
Chapter 19
Lydia:
Movie night was forgotten, not that I think Allison minded. Scott apparently brought Isaac with him. They were spending time cuddling on the couch with Mr. Argent chaperoning. Scott and I were cuddling on my bed but the door was wide open. Mr. Argent wasn't stupid. I was curled into his side, his hand running up and down my side. My hand slipped under his shirt, and I finally got to do what I have been wanting to do for ages, run my fingers along his abs. It was every bit as good as I thought it would be.
"So, he really apologized? And he's okay with this?" I asked, after he finished telling me about his talk with Stiles.
"Yes, he apologized. I'm not sure if he is fully okay with things, but he is not fighting against it anymore."
"I hate that this hurts him, I really do. But I couldn't take staying away from you. It was killing me."
"Me too. I would have continued to try but it was becoming unbearable."
"Yeah, it was." I admitted. "Scott, this alpha mate thing. Is that why you want me?"
"No. While I was waiting for Isaac, I thought about everything Stiles said and what I heard for Derek and Deaton. My wolf made a connection with you. But it didn't create the feelings." He started trying to find the words to explain it to me. "It's like, the wolf recognized you as a potential match but… the feelings were born from getting to know you. The alpha wanted you but I, the human, need you. That probably doesn't make sense."
"It does. Sort of. It's like your wolf pointed me out but you're loving me made it stronger."
"Exactly. Beauty and brains. How did I ever get so lucky in the girlfriend department?"
"Girlfriend, huh? I don't remember agreeing to that?" I teased.
"Seriously?" he chuckled.
"Well, it's not like you asked." I shrugged and smirked. With a playful growl he spun us so that he was hovering over me. I squealed and grabbed his shoulders.
"Lydia Martin," he kissed me. "Beautiful," kiss. "Sexy," kiss. "Smart love of my life," toe curling fire in the pit of my stomach inducing kiss. "Would you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?"
"Well, since you asked so nicely." I panted. He grinned before kissing me again. My legs wrapped around him as he settled over me. His weight pressing me into the mattress.
"I think it's about time for you boys to be heading home." Mr. Argent's voice startled us. We separated and Scott fell off the bed. I couldn't help laughing and even Mr. Argent chuckled from the doorway.
"Uh, yes sir." Scott said getting up. Mr. Argent walked away still snickering. "Well, I guess that's my cue." He said getting up. Then helped me off the bed.
I walked him to the front where Isaac was saying goodnight to Allison, very expressively.
"Unless you want to be shot, we should go." Scott told Isaac pulling him away from his porn worthy make out with Allison.
"Fair point." Isaac said with one more kiss. Allison winked at us as she skipped back into the living room.
"I'll see you tomorrow, boyfriend." I smiled.
"Tomorrow, girlfriend." The goofy smile on his face was too cute. I just had to kiss him once more.
I locked the door after him then practically danced into the living room falling onto the couch next to Allison.
"Happy?" she asked as I leaned my head against her shoulder.
"Unbelievably." I sighed.
"Good. I'm glad. I told you it would work out."
I smiled at her.
"So, boyfriend huh?"
"Yeah." Knowing my goofy grin matched Scotts. Allison laughed head tossed back.
"It almost makes me regret what I am about to say." Mr. Argent said from his chair.
"What's that?" Allison turned to him.
"I have to go out of town again, on Friday. This deal I thought was done is having issues. I need to go straighten it out. I'll be back on Saturday. I was going to ask the boys to stay over again, but now I'm rethinking that decision."
"It worked out last time." Allison said.
"I'm sure it did." Mr. Argent gave her a look that had her looking away.
"Mr. Argent-."
"I think you can just call me Argent now Lydia. Leave the mister off."
"Okay, Argent," It sounded funny, but I was grateful for the informality of it. "If you're just wanting them to be here for safety then they are the best options, and you know they won't let either of us get hurt. And I know Scott at least will be on his best behavior."
"Not from what I saw in there." He nodded down the hall and I blushed. "But it is the best option. I trust them to look after you girls. Just don't make me regret this."
"We won't." we said in unison. He didn't believe us for one second.
"Hey dad, you let Lydia call you Argent but not Scott or Isaac, why?" Allison asked curiously.
"Isaac is dating my daughter, and Scott is dating someone I consider another daughter to me. It's Mr. Argent to them." He stated. I smiled widely at that.
"Thank you." I said softly. He smiled.
"Okay, I'm off to bed. Good night girls."
"Good night." we said, again in unison.
"Now, Spill. I want to know what happened." Allison said once her father was gone.
"Well…"
Thursday, I woke feeling more refreshed than I had in ages. I took my time getting dressed, making sure my makeup was perfect and every hair was in place. I felt happy, nervous and anxious all at the same time. Allison had to pretty much shove me out the door before I changed my mind on my outfit again. My leg wouldn't stop jumping as she drove, and I kept fiddling with the bracelet on my right wrist.
"Would you relax? You know he will be there waiting for you."
"I know, I can't help it. It feels like I'm attending a debut or something. And then I know Stiles will be there. I know he's accepting this but-."
"You know that he's still not completely happy about it."
"Yeah, and their best friends."
"It'll be fine. Stiles will get over it. Just enjoy that you're finally with Scott."
"I'm with Scott. Holy crap, we're together." I said in amazement.
"I felt the same way when Isaac and I got together." Allison said.
She pulled into the parking lot and Isaac and Scott were already there. Standing out front waiting for us. I forced myself to wait until Allison turned off the car before getting out. Scott met me at the front and swooped me up in a hug and a searing kiss.
"Hey girlfriend." He greeted.
"Hey boyfriend." I said back, smiling.
"Oh God, are they already starting with the cutesy stuff." I heard Stiles say climbing out of his jeep. Liam and Mason climbing out as well.
Scott set me down and I turned in his arms. Stiles was smiling, it wasn't as forced, but it wasn't natural either.
"Stiles-."
"No, it's okay really Lydia. I'm happy for you guys. I'll be okay." He said.
"Thank you."
He nodded. "Okay, so while I have you guys here. I gave the information to my dad he said he would check it out. But I checked the absent list yesterday and-."
"Wait, how did you check the absent list? When?" Scott asked, setting his chin on the top of my head.
"Last night."
"Last night. How? Did you break into the office?" Isaac asked.
"No I didn't break into the office. The door was unlocked."
"That door is never unlocked after hours." Mason pointed out.
"It was unlocked, or you unlocked it?" Allison asked.
"Why is that important?"
"You didn't return the janitors keys?" I asked.
"No I returned them."
"You made a copy of them, didn't you?" Scott deadpanned.
"That's not the point."
"Don't you mean it's irrelevant?" Isaac said.
"The point… is that Greenberg has been on the absent list for the last two weeks. He hasn't been in school since the locker thing."
"So he's disappeared?" Liam asked.
"Looks that way. But I checked the filing cabinet."
"The filing cabinet." We all said at once.
"Would you guys let me finish." Stiles said in exasperation. "I checked the filing cabinet, and I got his address. Who wants to take a drive later and check it out?" he finished rubbing his hands together in excitement.
"I have work after practice, I can't." Scott said.
"I don't want to go anywhere near there." I said shaking my head.
"I'll go." Isaac volunteered.
"Me too." Liam chimed in.
"I'm in." Mason said.
"Allison?" Stiles asked.
"I'm staying with Lydia."
"Okay. After practice, Isaac, Liam, Mason and I will go check it out. Just some surveillance. I'll text you if we find anything." Stiles confirmed. We all nodded.
"Let's get to class." Scott said, releasing me but lacing his fingers with mine.
"Oh, before we go. My dad has to go back out of town tomorrow. He wanted you guys to stay over again." Allison said looking at Scott and Isaac. Isaac was practically bouncing as he nodded yes.
"Sure, I'll let my mom know." Scott shrugged.
We all walked into the school, Stiles talking a mile a minute. Liam and Mason followed behind us. Allison and Isaac whispering to each other and making cutesy faces at each other. We all separated to go to our lockers. Scott gave me a kiss and said he would see me after class. I never felt as light as I almost floated to class.
Lunch found us all sitting together again laughing and joking as usual. I was sitting next to Scott, leaning into him, his arm around me playing with a lock of my hair. Isaac had Allison sitting on lap and was receiving glares from the teachers on lunch duty that he ignored. Mason still had questions and was bombarding Scott with them. Writing down answers on his notepad. My phone chimed. And then chimed again. And again.
"Who is it?" Scott asked. "They seem to really want to talk to you."
I pulled it out and winced when I saw it was unknown.
"Uh…" I fidgeted, remembering I never mentioned to him about the texts.
"Lydia?"
"It's…him." I said finally. Everyone stopped talking.
"What, he's texting you?"
"I meant to mention it, I just forgot with other stuff happening." I admitted.
"Let me see."
"I haven't looked at any of them." I said, handing him my phone.
His jaw ticked as he scrolled reading text after text, getting angrier with each new message.
"I'm going to kill him." Scott said darkly. It was a voice I never heard from him, and it kept the promise of death.
"Hey," I called getting his attention away from the phone. His eyes were still brown, but they were so hard they could shoot laser beams. "I'm right here, okay. I'm safe with you. I know you will protect me." I leaned in and kissed him. He took a deep breath and nodded.
"Scott, screenshot those and send them to me. I'll get them to my dad for the file." Stiles said. Scott nodded and started screenshotting, sending them to his phone.
"Maybe we can trace the number?" Mason suggested.
"We could try but it's probably a burner." Stiles said.
"Probably, but we'll try it. If you get anymore text let me know please." Scott said. I nodded, conversations picked back up and went back to leaning against him.
"Sorry, I didn't tell you about to. I meant to but things had been so strained between us." I said as we walked to French after lunch.
"It's okay. I get it. But just please tell me if you receive any more. I need to know. I have to protect you."
"I will, I promise. You aren't really thinking of killing him, are you?"
"All the time." He admitted.
"Please don't. I want him caught too. But I don't want you to lose yourself doing something you can't take back." I told him.
"I won't lose myself as long as I have you. You always bring me back to me."
"Anchor." I smiled.
"Anchor."
