The last addition to the 2019 Spring Cleaning Event

Alright, so I had an idea while on the way home from work while running Pokémon Go, being disappointed by my Pokéhaul. So, what is this idea? Why do I keep asking you these things when the answer is most likely in the heading of the chapter's name? Well, this is a Percy Jackson and Naruto crossover. Before you start groaning about ANOTHER one of these fics, hear me out. As of 8/1/16, there were 510 fics fitting this category of Naruto x PJO. Going through about two pages of descriptions these fics fall into one of three categories themselves: rewrites of the original material but Naruto as the lead either instead of or alongside Percy being the child of a Greek god/goddess, a tale taking place at Camp Jupiter during the time Percy and pals were doing the books before discovering Jupiter (an interesting take) being a child of a Roman god/goddess or the Godlike!Naruto stories that seem to have permeated a mass majority of the stories here. But there was one thing I never saw, and do you know what that is? Shinto, aka Japanese god mythology (and religious beliefs). So far, we've had Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and now Nordic gods that have made their way into the Riordan-verse as all of his mythology-based works are all connected. Roman and Greek by Thalia's brother Jason, Greek and Norse by Annabeth's cousin Magnus, and Greek and Egyptian by a reference of Apollo mentioning Ra riding his "sun boat" across the sky.

As you can see, he's pretty much set these up for a massive crossover should some world-spanning threat appear and every demigod of various pantheons must come together to stop it. I swear, I see it now and am predicting it for some point in the future. So far there are no Kane Chronicles crossovers with Naruto nor is there a Magnus Chase crossover for Naruto, so I'm left with Percy-boy to mess with (as this would be the most popular). But back to the original point. As you know there have been multiple pantheons that have existed since prehistoric times, the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Norse we've been introduced to by Riordan in his book, but there are many more out there like the Chinese, Japanese (Shinto), Hawaiian, Hindu, and many more. "But what are you getting at?" you may be asking. You see, I want to make this original as can be so that way I CAN build off of this once I have the time and don't have 4 ongoing stories that people watching each want to see updated (I do not include my pilot series in this).

"But how" you may ask on how I am going to make this original. My solution? The Shinto pantheon. Those of you who have read my ongoing PJO fic "Didn't See That Coming" (please do read, people seem to enjoy it) I mention that I like the MOBA Smite. Now to those of you who don't know what a MOBA is nor what Smite is, well you're in for a treat because Uncle Phil be telling ya! MOBA stands for Massive Online Battle Arena and games that fit into this genre are League of Legends (LoL or League), Defense of the Ancients 2 (DOTA2), Heroes of the Storm, Battleborn, Monday Night Combat, and finally, Smite. There are many more and I encourage you to check them out if for nothing else then to know what they are. But Smite is one of my favorites as they use mythological beings as your heroes to play as against other players. I don't even know who other champions or heroes from other games are without looking them up. Hell, I didn't know who Teemo (one of the most hated League champions) was until I looked him up on google. I'm rambling again, I apologize. Back to the point, Smite is one of my favorite online games for one main reason: the characters.

So far in Smite, they have the Greek, Roman, Chinese, Aztec, Hindu, Norse, and now more recently the Shinto gods. I only knew of these gods' names from Naruto through Sharingan incantations and some specific techniques that use the gods' name in it. For example, Sasuke's Raijin attack. Then there's Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, Izanagi, and so on that are used specifically by Sharingan users alone. But now seeing the lore that Hi-Rez has included in the character screen has allowed me to look into these gods more, and I like them. So, I figured this is what would make this story unique: Naruto being the son of a Shinto god/goddess. Then the question becomes, who? Then I figured it out. Amaterasu. Why? According to Wikipedia (a good start to do research but not a resource that you want to centralize your research on) she was considered one of the central deities of the Shinto religion alongside Izanagi, Izanami, Susanoo, and Tsukuyomi as well as a few others. I encourage you to quickly google "Shinto god list" just to see what's all there. There's quite a few.

Being as this will take place in the PJO/Riordan-verse I have no rules for Shinto to work with as he has established rules for the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Nords, but since he hasn't done a Shinto based mythological backstory I'm left to make up my own rules for this pantheon when it comes to interaction with the mortal world. So, I'm going to take the Noragami approach for this. What do I mean? Gods will sometimes either take on tasks themselves or send emissaries to deal with spiritual threats that will affect the mortal world. Naruto will be one of those emissaries as he is a demigod.

That being said this will take place during the timeframe of Lightning Thief. Naruto will be his normal, pranky, goofy self but can become serious when he needs to. The "Hidden Lands" will not exist nor will there be ninjas of the Naruto-sense. The characters that showed up in Naruto will still exist and will show up either by reference or by an actual appearance. Now before you start raging and start flaming this, to which either I will delete if you're writing as a guest reviewer or block you if you're a registered user, is I am doing this to make this story UNIQUE. I can only remember two stories that currently follow what is popular and that's "Son of the Earthshaker" (id: 11560504) by BonesBoy15 and "Fils de l'Amour" (id: 11088788) also by BonesBoy15 due to their unique setups and story as they break the mold, especially the first one, even though they follow what's popular. I highly recommend these two stories. By making this unique I can bring more ideas that hopefully others will adopt and say "hey, that's not a half-bad idea" starting another wave of popular stories.

Title: Demigod from the land of the rising sun

Summary: Naruto, son of the goddess Amaterasu, is sent to the United States to analyze and possibly eliminate a threat that could mess with the delicate balance of the gods have across the globe.

Rating: T, I wouldn't have it go any further than this.

Disclaimer: I only own my laptop and my copy of MS Word. Naruto belongs to Masashi Kishimoto, Viz Media, and Shonen Jump. Percy Jackson and the Olympians belong to Rick Riordan and whoever has the rights to publish his work. I only own original plot points.

Akihabara, Japan. May 31, 2009. 10 pm local time.

Akihabara. It is to anime and manga fans what Mecca is to Islam. A holy place where manga, anime, and other anime and manga paraphernalia like video games and figures are sold both in mortar and brick stores but also on the streets to prospective buyers. Enticing buyers in with bright lights, sounds, and displayed goods for purchase. In the day, it was a shining example of capitalism. But at night it was a completely different entity. In the cover of darkness, people that have less than honorable intentions crawl out of the woodwork, using the darkness to cover or obscure their actions or business dealings. From the less offensive such as illegal copies of media being sold to collectors at an extreme markup while being made for pennies on the dollar, to the more offensive such as prostitution and drug dealing. As much as people wanted to ignore it, it still happens under their noses. But there's something that happens even under their noses, no matter how much they want to deny it. It's something of a more… divine nature. Or devilish, depending on who you ask.

The latter was definitely true for the young teenage girl currently running away from the creepiest man she had ever come in contact with through the currently rain-soaked streets. Every person around her ignored her plight no matter how much she begged or shouted for help. It was like she didn't exist. They just walked past her, continued talking on their cell phones, or carried on conversations with whomever they were in close proximity to. She let out a frustrated huff and continued to run, feeling the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end. Turning around, she saw the creepy, old, fat man still hot on her tail. She ran down a nearby alley and ended up cornered. There was no way out.

"Girlie, why did you run away?" the creepy man asked. "All I wanted to do was talk."

"S-stay away!" she sputtered out.

"Don't be like that, I just want to talk," he sweetly, yet sickly replied. The girl had heard of ghost stories from her classmates like this, as they were prone to telling them between classes with borderline religious zealotry. One of being of a nondescript man who will try and talk to young girls who looks absolutely repulsive. Once they speak to the man, they're never seen again; and if they are, they are never the same again.

"No, leave me alone." The girl had caught the man's appearance once again, it seemed to shimmer and deform as he approached her.

"That's not very polite," he said as he kept approaching her. "Come, talk with me, we'll have a good time."

"N-no, stay back," she stammered as she pressed herself against the wall of the dead-end alleyway.

His form started to ripple now. "Oh, that's not very polite," he repeated. "Perhaps I can change that." The flesh on his body ripped away revealing, of all things, a kappa. "Your flesh looks really tasty, but it seems like it isn't tender enough for my tastes. Perhaps some… tenderizing is required," he said with enough undertones for the girl to pick up what he was getting at. "Consider this… tenderizing a blessing," he laughed maliciously. The girl started to curl into a ball and screamed as the laughter reached a fever pitch. But as soon as it started, it ended. "Huh?"

The girl opened her eyes to see that the kappa was prodding at his own belly like something had touched him, but was unsure what it was. There was a flash of light again, but this time at the kappa's neck. His eyes widened in surprise as he started to slide apart and fell to the ground in a fallen heap of freshly slaughtered meat. When she looked at what caused it, she saw a blonde-haired boy with uncontrollably spiked hair holding what looked like a gleaming katana. Not gleaming in the sense that it was reflecting the light of the neon street signs, but gleaming like it had an inner light of its own. He sheathed it and approached the girl. He held out a hand and asked, "Are you ok?"

She took it and he pulled her up. "Who are you?" she asked.

"A friend," he replied as he sheathed the sword. "Listen, it's not safe here, we need to go."

"What do you mean it's not safe?" she asked, indignant to leave until she had some answers.

He let out a huff in slight annoyance, specifically the kind that said 'this was supposed to be easy.' "Listen, with that monster revealing itself, you've been introduced to a world hidden from mortals."

"Mortals?"

"Questions later," he replied as he started to walk with an unsaid command to follow, which she did. "Since you've been exposed to it now, other monsters like that kappa, know that you know about that world and will come for you."

"Wait, they'll come after me because I found out about their secret?"

"Not just that," he continued. "Not because you know their little secret, but because of WHAT you are."

"What do you mean, I'm just a middle-schooler," she replied. She was, understandably, completely confused.

He stopped and turned to look at her, "No, you're not." He looked around to see if anyone was listening to them, but it appeared that everyone was ignoring him as well as she had been earlier. "You're the daughter of a very powerful being. A god."

"What do you mean? My mom is just an office worker."

"I didn't say that it was your mom," he replied.

She paused for a moment. "But my mom doesn't even know who my dad actually was."

"That doesn't mean that he doesn't know who you are." He paused for a moment before continuing. "He hired me to find and bring you to a location to keep you safe."

"Where?"

"Mount Fuji," he replied.

"You expect me to come with you to Mount Fuji. A boy that I have never met before on behalf of my father, a man I've never met before."

"Yeah," he answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"And why should I even follow you?"

He turned around and made sure that he was in her personal space to make what he was about to say very clear and serious. "Because of the fact that you're a child of a god AND you know about this world, as little as it is, they will come after you and anyone that stands in their way to get to you. And the thing is? No one will remember that you or the people that are killed even existed. They'll forget you, your friends, your mother; anyone that knows your name won't even ask 'hey, who's the girl that used to sit by the window's name?' No, it'll be your entire existence been erased as if you never existed. And anyone else that places themselves between the monster hunting you, and you. The only chance you have at living and surviving is coming with me." Without saying anything more, he started to walk once more towards the curb and hailed a taxi.

For the girl, with a few minutes to think to herself, found the whole situation terrifying and confusing. Her father a god? The fact that if she wished to walk away from the armed boy's offer, she'd be hunted down like some sort of animal and anyone that even knew her name would forget about her. Not that they would just forget about her, but like she would cease to exist. The whole existential crisis part of it was mind-boggling. How could someone just forget that someone that they knew for almost ten years didn't exist anymore? But the way that the boy spoke, it was like he had seen it happen before. The seriousness in his voice seemed to imply it. Without waiting any longer as the taxi pulled up, she joined the boy.

"So, you decided to come along?" She only nodded. "Get in."

The next few hours were long and consisted of a lot of backtracking. According to the boy, it was to throw off any pursuers. But eventually, they were on a high-speed train to the mountains. It was one of the few times that either of them got any rest. Once they arrived at the station near the mountain, they took a motorbike that the boy rented and no one asked any questions. They, after an hour of driving, found them at the entrance of a forest that she didn't recall ever being near the foot of the mountain. But before they drove into it, which had a very obvious trail large enough for them to drive up, the boy pulled over.

"What is this forest and why are we pulling over?" she asked.

He got off the bike and turned to her. "In order: this is a forest that can't be entered nor seen by those that don't have a drop of godly blood in their body. As for the second, this is holy ground and it would be disrespectful to bring something in that is not holy."

They trekked inside for what seemed like hours, but the sun's stance didn't change in the sky. Eventually, they came across what looked like an old village, like one that would be better suited for over a hundred years ago. It looked traditional, quaint even. When they crossed into it, she could see a bunch of other kids wearing a wide range of clothing from traditional kimonos to modern clothing.

The boy stopped and pointed towards a towering building in the center. "Head towards that, the administrator will help you settle in and will answer any questions that you have," he said. The girl didn't say anything but headed towards the building.

"You did well, Naruto," a woman said from behind the boy.

"It was relatively simple," he replied. "The only difficult thing was to get her to willingly come along."

"Her father thanks you for bringing his daughter here."

"I better get what he promised."

"And he will provide a boon as payment. But the pantheon has a task for you, my son," the woman added.

"What kind of task, Amaterasu-sama?" he asked with seriousness. One did not get a task assigned from the entire pantheon without it being of some kind of serious importance.

She seemed to pout at that reply. "How many times do I have to tell you, call me mom!"

"What kind of task does the pantheon have for me, mom?" Naruto corrected.

"How much do you know about the rest of the world, spiritually that is?"

He shook his head. "Not much, other than there are other religions, but I don't know much about them other than the absolute basics."

"Walk with me," she invited. They walked together around the small village. "In other nations, there are other gods who rule supreme. To the west there is the subcontinent of India ruled by the Hindu gods, further west is the entirety of Northern Europe governed by the Norse, and America is split in two. One part governed by the Greeks and the other by the Romans. Just to the east of us in the Pacific, they are governed by the Polynesian gods." Naruto soaked up this information as she explained it. She paused her explanation for a moment, searching for the specific words she wanted to use. "Our pantheon, the Shinto, are worried about the Greeks. Similar to us, each of the Greek gods has a symbol of power, an object which allows them to channel their abilities with destructive accuracy."

"Like your mirror," Naruto observed.

She nodded in confirmation. "Our spies have uncovered that one or more of their top tier gods might have lost their symbols of power. So far, the ones affected have remained silent and resumed their duties as if nothing were wrong; but the writing is on the walls and their attitudes towards the other gods have implied that something is off and that they're uneasy about it. The last time a symbol went missing, a small war erupted which our nation was involved in."

"The Second World War," Naruto answered. The goddess nodded. Every Japanese student knew of that war, it was part of their history and the results shaped their national identity and foreign policy since.

"Yes. We fear that with the theft of a symbol of power, there may be another power struggle on a godly scale. This could also be a power shift in the godly realm with unknown actors. The last time this happened the Titans were slain by their own children and the children took power. If this is indeed the case, we have no idea of what their long-term intentions would be. This wouldn't be the first time a pantheon was erased from existence and another took its place."

"What is it that you want me to do?" Naruto asked.

"We have secured an agreement with the Polynesian pantheon in which the god Maui will permit safe passage over the Pacific and keep away any interferences during transit. You are to head to America and meet with one of our spies in San Francisco. From there you are to head to New York, the seat of power of the Greeks and find out anything you can and prevent any change of power that could result in a godly invasion."

This weighed heavy on him. The entire Shinto religion could be squashed if the new actors had their sights set eastward, and gods never acted directly, they always sent proxy soldiers to act in their name. "Why would the Polynesians help us?"

"They too have a vested interest in the result of this possible power struggle. The Greeks and Romans have been at their door for over a hundred years and the opportunistic would aim at them first."

"When am I to leave?"

"Tomorrow. There is a cruise liner at Yokohama Port leaving at noon. I would pack light as we have no idea how long you'll be overseas."

To be continued…?

XxXxXxX

That's all I have for this one for now.

I don't have all that much to say about this one, mainly because I explained a fair amount of it in the intro for the most part. The only thing that I wish to add is that this idea was originally come up with back in 2016 shortly after my first Percy Jackson idea and well before I created the repository for ideas like this. At the time I figured I had an interesting idea and premise, but wanted more before I acted on it. Before I could legitimately go into an idea like this, I would really have to do some deep dives into Japanese mythology outside of the basic stuff that I can pick up by osmosis from games like SMITE. One of the other things, especially if you're knowledgeable about Japanese industry or just the region in general, is that I have no idea if Yokohama's port actually moors cruise ships or if it is just cargo haulers; I just picked a port on the map and just ran with it.

But let me know what you think about this one. I literally started with just that opening tirade about the idea was and what I hoped that this would be since it was originally written to be a preface to a very long chaptered story. Unfortunately, I have no idea if I want to do that idea anymore, but me posting it here does mean that I still have some semblance of the idea that I wish to at least get out there or even inspire someone else to take on should they too be inspired by this idea.

See you all next time in whatever I do next.
