Alright, so while attempting to work on one of my other stories, "The Wizard from Tribute," I had an idea. For a while, I've been contemplating a story for an NCIS/HP crossover that involved time travel, an adult Harry, and the Triwizard Tournament bringing him back. By the way, my idea. However, during writing the aforementioned fic, another idea popped into my head:
"What if Harry's family didn't die on Halloween, Harry was sent into the future by magic at the same time he defeated Voldemort as a toddler, and ended up growing up in the UNSC and became an ODST?"
This is the result of that question.

Disclaimer: I only own my laptop and my copy of MS Word. Halo belongs to 343i and Microsoft, although I do wish they would follow Bungie's example for a story. And Harry Potter belongs to JK Rowling and whoever she authorizes to distribute her works.

It was Halloween night. For the Potter family, it was a somber night; it was the night that their eldest son died. Well, at least most law enforcement and the Wizarding World considered him dead. It had been almost seventeen years since their son had disappeared; they refused to accept that he had died. There were nobody and no evidence that even their poor son's body had been magically disintegrated. The family would gather and mourn the death of their loved one in the privacy of their own home; but this year was different, the family was forced to attend Hogwarts to observe the opening ceremony for the Triwizard Tournament. From what Dumbledore had told James, it was to 'show unity with the Wizarding World'. James knew what it was, it was to save face. After all, what would the rest of the world think about one of the most famous Wizarding families in recent history if they didn't attend the most prestigious event in well over a hundred years: the Triwizard Tournament.
The Potter family's daughter and only other child, Elizabeth, was experiencing her first year at Hogwarts. She was always a quiet child and her sorting into Ravenclaw fit her personality. She had a few close friends, including the daughter of the family friends the Lovegoods. At the head of the Great Hall, the Goblet of Fire sat ready to reveal the chosen Champions for the Triwizard Tournament. Two slips had already come out, one for Durmstang and one for Bauxbatons. A Bulgarian seeker and a Veela student respectively. Everyone waited in anticipation as the Goblet decided on the champion for Hogwarts. The goblet's flame turned from the original blue flame to orange and a puff of smoke blew out an ember.
Dumbledore reached up and grabbed the falling ember and read, "The Champion for Hogwarts has been chosen, Cedric Diggory has been chosen!" The crowd erupted in applause and several of Cedric's housemates threw their arms around him in a 'bro hug' before he shuffled off behind the Great Hall (see: trophy room) to be with the rest of the chosen Champions. "That's it! We have our three champions! But in the end, only one will go down in history. The only one will hoist this chalice of champions, this vessel of victory: the Triwizard Cup!"
And with that announcement, the covered object that Ludo Bagman had been hovering around was revealed to show a glistening, translucent blue trophy. The crowd erupted in subdued applause once more as they laid their eyes on the trophy. However, Severus appeared to be distracted by something. Dumbledore noticed immediately after and started to approach the Goblet of Fire of which had flames starting to flow around it once more like it was trying to choose another Champion. It spat out another shred of flame-tinged paper and Dumbledore grabbed it just as quickly as before. He looked at the slip of paper and instantly went pale. He lowered it before looking at it again, the paleness not going away but his hands started to shake.
"Harry Potter," he said softly in a reverence that made him sound like he was invoking some kind of god. The flew that were closest whispered in disbelief. "Harry Potter," he said louder. At that moment there was hushed muttering. Most in the room considered it being an outright faux pas considering that the patriarch of the Potter family was there this night with his wife. While the only child, technically younger, only knew about her older brother in passing and by proxy of being in a family who was so high profile in the Wizarding World, she was more confused more than anything else. No one stood up to come forward that they threw the name in the Goblet. After all, Harry Potter was dead. Right?
"Which one of you put that name in the Goblet?" the Potter patriarch bellowed out in righteous indignation. It was wholly justified righteous indignation as well; the Potter matriarch was already visually disturbed. "Which one of you thought this sick prank up?" Everyone in the room shrunk back, more-so out of surprise rather than guilt. James proceeded to eye Severus. He knew the man hated him ever since Lily and him got into a relationship. Before any further shouting could be had, there was an explosion outside.
The teachers of Hogwarts, Bauxbatons, and Durmstang rushed outside followed close behind by the student bodies of all three schools. Now there wasn't just one explosion, but a series of explosions. Some were a more 'rat-a-tat-tat' and some were just 'boom'. There were a couple of other sounds that didn't sound quite like explosions, they were something else. When they got outside, they saw that in the massive courtyard different figures were fighting a single, towering metal entity that glowed orange-red. There were black armored soldier-types with silver visors firing with what looked like some muggle-born recognized as firearms while there were other figures, including a pair of massive creatures that edged in on the size of trolls wielding massive metal slabs as shields firing what looked like green fire upon the orange-red entity. There was a red armored creature with backward limbs and a four mandabled jaw firing blue bolts out of what looked like a purple H in one hand and what looked like of sword of fire being held in the other. There were even two others that looked like it was wearing a hood and the other which looked like a raptor with a shield and another type of weapon.
They all continued to fire upon the massive metal beast. One of the black-armored people ran towards one with the metal shields. It maneuvered and braced in a way that appeared coordinated. The red-armored being threw a sack of what looked like blue balls towards the runner who caught them. He continued to run at full speed and landed on top of the shield, the beast grunted as it threw the man in the air from the shield. He was thrown with enough force to fly above the metal goliath's head. He pulled out a knife and as he descended, he stabbed the knife into the entity's neck. It didn't react, but the man in black struggled to hang on. He roped the bag of balls onto the knife's hilt but was thrown off from the goliath's thrashing.
He landed on the ground on his back. The goliath aimed a glowing weapon towards him, but as it did the ball sack started to swing in view. The man drew another weapon and aimed carefully. "Yippie-kai-yay, motherfucker," he said as he pulled the trigger. In a split-second the giant was standing there, the next a blue explosion enveloped its head. It stumbled and as the gas cleared, it had no head. As it started to fall, it started to dissipate into what looked like ashes. The other black-clad person walked over to the downed one and offered them an arm that was taken and stood back up. "Status?"
"All good, hoss," the other black-clad person said, they appeared to sound female. Now that she stood next to the other figure, she towered a full head over him. "No squad casualties."
"Ammo?"
"Rockets are dry. I'm not sure about the Covvie weapons, but I'm standing at three clips each for my MA5 and M99."
"Alright, we'll need to regroup with the rest of the platoon and rearm." He looked up and saw the gathering of children and adults wearing what looked like cosplay garb. "Isabelle, we were last on Zeta Halo, correct?"
"Correct. Why?"
"Because last I checked we weren't fighting in a medieval castle's courtyard ten minutes ago." Hearing that the squad immediately turned around and saw their audience. Weapons were raised but immediately lowered due to the appearance of the children in the group. After all, only a terrorist would use hostages, but the adults were in the front and the children weren't reeling in fear from the adults.
"How do you want to handle this?"
"By not doing what we just did to that Promethean, perhaps?" He attached his pistol to his thigh and started to walk over towards the newcomers.
"Do you believe this to be a good idea?" the Elite asked.
"No idea, this is him we're talking about," Isabelle responded.
He walked over to the group and took off his helmet revealing the human underneath. He was edging on six feet, four inches tall. He had black, cropped yet messy hair that barely hid a scar. His jaw was chiseled and had had four o'clock shadow that was slowly growing into a beard. To those living in the Muggle world, they recognized the military look. What highlighted that fact was armored plates that didn't look like any metal they had ever seen before.
"My apologies for the noise. I'm Colonel Harold Kovostov of the UNSC Marine Corps," he introduced himself very charismatically. Before he could get any other words of greeting out or explain what the UNSC was, the Potter matriarch ran up to him and embraced him. "Ok…?"
"My boy, my baby boy," she cried tears of joy.
He looked to the still-armored woman and gave her a look of 'what is going on?' "Ma'am, I don't know who you think I am-," he got out.
"You're my little Harry, and you've come back home," she explained.
"Maybe we should take this inside, I'm sure there are many things that need to be explained from both sides," Dumbledore suggested.
To be continued…?

That's all I have for now. This has been an idea sitting in my mind for some time since around 2012, no I'm not kidding about that. This file was created in 2012, eight years ago. Since then I've been sitting on this idea always saying that I'll come back to it, well, I finally came back to it a few months ago and finally finished the idea itself. As per usual, what do you guys think? There's a lot of things that I've left in this story very vague just due to the cause that it is so old and the idea has been around for some time. I may plan to come back to this someday, but I am unsure at this point.
Before I take off, happy new year. I know it is almost a month late, but this is the first official posting for 2020; I don't count that preview since that's been saved and done for a while, just waiting to get the rest of the chapters in that project done before I contemplate sharing the rest. After all, I have a bunch of unfinished stories already floating out there, why add one more that won't get done without some kind of mental incentive?
Until next time!
