It fires it's beam at me and I evade to the right, while quickly glancing behind me to see what the beam did. It hit my Father's corpse. Where I expected it to simply incinerate him, it seemed to... break him down? Instead of ash or even dust particles, it was more like holographic particles, or pixels, and he was gone. This pissed me off.
"I'll tear you apart for that." Focusing my Ki into my hands, I create two pink orbs as I fly to the side. I throw one after another, three total, making the robot attempt to out manoeuvre my attack. While it was dodging, I was flying towards it, with two more Ki orbs. It successfully avoided my blasts, each one tearing through the hangar walls and into adjacent modular sections on the ship. Luckily there was no void breach.
Just as I got within arms length the machine raised it's hand in an attempt to shoot at me again. I somersaulted over the blasted thing, just about landing behind it but remaining airborne, and slamming both Ki orbs into it's back. I simultaneously released the orbs and it was sent hurtling towards the hangar door, knocked off it's feet. I detonated the orbs after it travelled a few yards away from my pod. The explosion wasn't massive, I didn't want to blow a hole in the ship, but it still did it's job. I planted my feet as I smiled in my victory.
"That was easier then I thought it would be. Show's you for facing a Saiyan Warrior." My boasting was short lived as I heard metallic footsteps coming from the smoke left behind by my attack. Suddenly I saw a shadow in the smoke and I realized that maybe I should have stuck to my plan of leaving. But who was I kidding, I'm a Saiyan and things were just getting good.
I saw the robot raise it's hand out of the smoke and fired another beam at me. I weaved around it as I approached to deliver a Ki enhanced kick. It fired multiple times at me but I evaded every shot and to avoid slipping up I wrapped my tail around my waist. Closing the distance I spun 360 degrees to deliver a roundhouse kick to it's head. Coating my shin in Ki for an devastating effect.
As my kick was about to land the smoke basically cleared and behind the one I was kicking were two more robots. I still followed through with my kick, removing the Coluan androids head, and... I surprisingly cut through it rather easily. When I landed I took a few steps back and noticed the now destroyed robot had disappeared in the same fashion as my Father's corpse. Shortly afterwards, another two robots seemed to teleport onto the ship.
Who or whatever was sending these things was sending stronger ones each time. The next pair that was sent in raised their slightly thicker arms to reveal some kind of energy shield. I quickly weighed my options on how to best deal with this.
"Yeah fuck that." I flew backwards as I launched a volley of Ki blasts at the droids, purposefully hitting the ground in front of them every three orbs. I turned to look and angled myself into my pod still attack. I focused only on attacking with one of my hands as I hit the button to close up shop and get the hell out of dodge. I kept firing until I didn't have enough space to do so and let the pod close it's hatch.
Once it hovered off the ground I commanded the pod to forgo the departure checks and had it drop down through the ship and into space. The Attack Ball rocketed a good 20 yards out of the ship before I stopped it dead. Looking out around me, I could see something resembling tentacles on either side of our command ship. It appeared to be coming from above, so I strafed the pod slightly to the left and angled the window to get a better look. My eyes turned into saucers.
"What the fu-" I trailed off, too stunned by the appearance of a ship that seemed to take the shape of a head, one not to dissimilar to the robot, though it was less creepy... or was it.
The ship itself was unfathomably enormous. The only thing I could think of that came close to it was Frieza's capital ship he flew around in. Even then, that thing was dwarfed ten fold by this behemoth. Protruding from the bottom of where the jaw should be were these tentacle appendages that may or may not be landing craft. At the bottom of the craft, I could see a beam being produced and it was about to fire at our command ship.
Warning signals blared on my pod.
/UNIDENTIFIED THREAT/
/EVAS-BZZT-DODGE!/
I watched the command ship get what I could only call being digitized, given that the effect the beams had on anything it touched seemed to glitch it out of existence. I would have assumed all it touched it erased from existence, but given what that robot was saying, this... Brainiac... was a collector of sorts. It was only a matter of time before it was done collecting my broken ship and fallen comrades before moving on to me. I had to think. Maybe I could hide in the plan-
"Oh what the fuck!" Turning my pod around to look at the planet, I could see what was left after our invasion was being collected by smaller ships. There were some Saiyans planet side, so they definitely were fighting.
Part of me wanted to go down and help, but I knew that I would be of no use. These things just kept coming, either they were being mass produced or the parts that were being beamed back up to their mother ship were being reassembled and quickly redeployed. Honestly, I was somewhat impressed, if not annoyed. These things weren't true warriors, machines always paled in comparison. Still, there were too many, and I wasn't going to be this things prisoner.
I decided that I would go looking for this Brainiac some other time. For now, I needed to escape, and find my Mother to ask her questions that I need answers to. I quickly had my pod dash further down and circle Ceres until I was on the opposite side of where that Brainiac ship was. It took only a few minutes but when I made it to my destination, I tapped the button on my pod to open the hatch and stepped out. Thankfully, the pod produced an atmosphere not just inside the ball but around it for immediate mid flight inspection if necessary. Though I've never really heard of anybody needing to do such a thing, given how damn near indestructible these pods were... well from the outside anyway.
Raising my hand, I closed my eyes and focused my Ki into my palm. It wanted to come out wild and large but I wanted it to be more precise. Willing my Ki into a dense form. My Father had taught me that low-class warriors couldn't destroy whole planets just by launching an attack at it's surface, like the mid-class, and only the elites seemed to be capable of casually waving a hand and obliterating a celestial body such as this. Apparently he witnessed my Mother do it on the night they conceived me. She did it during the mating ritual for a light show in the background to their carnal actions. As a low-class warrior I can however, attack the core of a planet and cause it's destruction. The speed at which the planet itself will be destroyed will depend on the output. I wasn't sure I had enough to destroy it in a short amount of time but I still needed a distraction. It was likely for something so advanced that it would notice something was wrong with the core and want to quickly retreat before being caught in the blast and hopefully keep most of it's attention while I made my escape.
With one final push I took a deep, long, breath and yelled at the top of my lungs as I released a magenta Ki wave towards the planets core. I could feel when the Ki met some resistance when it hit the surface, so I pushed harder, digging deep and keeping the dam of energy open. If I had to tap myself out then fine, my next destination was already set to getting as far from here as possible and I'd just be resting the whole way anyway.
Eventually my Ki broke through the planets crust and drilled into the core causing it to erupt. It appeared my boost in strength from my last near death experience propelled me into the beginner steps of a mid-class warrior. I grinned. My hard work was paying off.
The grin quickly faded as I retreated to the interior of my pod and allowed the hatch to close. My Father would never get to know how strong I become due to his dedication. I only hoped my Mother was still alive. I leaned back in my pod as I pinched the bridge of my nose. My Attack Ball spun away from the planet as it began to erupt and took off towards it's next coordinates. I rejected the suspended animation for the moment despite my exhaustion, wanting to take stalk of what I have in the compartments. Need to know what I'm working with.
As I slid the side and bottom compartments open I grinned. Somebody had supplied me with plenty of food that would last for months, which I immediately grabbed a good amount and started chowing down as I was starving. Still searching through what I have, I saw I had all the basic necessities for prolonged travel, which wasn't much for a Saiyan. We could survive almost anywhere due to how highly adaptable we were. Food stores in case we needed to wait on a planet to recharge our pods that is barren is the big thing. Otherwise, we had no problem hunting and gathering.
It appeared I had more then one back up data slate, along with a few extra remotes for my pod and scouters of varying colour. Despite our loyalty to the King, Saiyans weren't usually sentimental creatures by nature. Hell, I wasn't really either. My reaction to my Father's death and concern for my Mother is very new, and so is their affection that hey showed me before they left.
Which leads me to believe my Mother was responsible for this. Reaching down, I grabbed a purple scouter and placed it over my left eye. Just as I activated it and it synced to my pod and bio-metrics, it scanned the area and alerted me of the planets explosion in less then 10 seconds. It had been about five minutes, give or take, and the readings for anything that would have been Brainiac related remained at Ceres. Good.
I laid back in my chair, thinking over how I was going to explain to the higher ups why I blew up our newly acquired planet. I didn't get any footage from the ship other then the Saiyans fighting Frieza force members, so that wouldn't look good.
I was pretty riled up after barely getting into that fight with those robots. Well, not really a fight, more a violent deconstruction session. I started laughing a little about the whole thing.
"Really, who do they think they are? 'All will belong to Brainiac.' Foolish." I mocked the robotic tone of the bipedal machine before continuing to eat some of my space jerky.
I remembered my father's corpse digitizing, as if it was being turned into bytes of data. I wasn't sure why they were collecting the dead and broken, and at the time didn't care. I would have given him a warrior's burial, but dying over such sentimental ideals was pointless and he would be disappointed in me if I had. Besides, I would have Brainiac's head for stealing his body and having his robots attacking me. I just needed back up.
It was then that I received a transmission on my scouter.
"Sadala, you there?" A low gruff voice came over the scouter. I grinned, having an idea as to why he was calling me.
"Bardock, long time no see. Does Raditz want to spar again?" Bardock's son, Raditz, was a little younger then me, but we sparred constantly. Last time I scanned him with my scouter he was stronger then me. I'm pretty sure I've surpassed him.
"No, actually. He's with Prince Vegeta on Planet Arva at the moment." I frowned, being reminded of my mother's words at the mention of my supposed cousin.
"I mean the more the merrier." Last time I saw Prince Vegeta he was 8 and his Power Level was probably around 10,000. That's how powerful his father was. I wasn't anywhere near that and I was 12 at the time. I am catching up now, pretty sure I was around three to four thousand. I have nearly died a few dozen times while raiding planets I had no business raiding. The only reason I survived was due to my father teaching me the power ball technique. Useful in obtaining the power of the Oozaru at any given moment. My training has been very rigorous as well. Still though, I could tell, Vegeta will be rising in level as well. I'd need to step up my game to surpass him as my mother wished of me.
"You lookin' to get yourself killed? Don't play with ideas like that out loud." I could hear him sigh after reprimanding me before continuing. "Look, I called because my team was about to raid Planet Kanassa and I owe Mizuna a favour. She wants me to bring you with us. You still at Planet Ceres?" A relief was felt when I heard news that my mother was alive. I wondered if she was even aware of what happened here.
Questions for later though, for I was vibrating at the exciting prospect of raiding a planet with Team Bardock. Among all the low-class warriors, I respected their strength the most. Bardock himself proved to be an excellent fighter and team leader. At the mention of Planet Ceres however, my excitement soured a bit.
"Just left actually. Got a decent story to tell you when I get there. And a question, but we'll save it for after." Running over the events in my head again I couldn't believe somebody blatantly attacked a Saiyan/Frieza Force command ship like that. Wasn't sure he was going to believe me.
I did have an inquiry involving the Oozaru though. I stored all that away and laid back in my pod as I prepared for sleep on the way.
"Alright, coordinates sent. See you in 12 hours." With that the coordinates were updated and the connection cut as I heard the planet I was leaving behind exploded. With a small smile, I laid back and slept for my journey.
Above Kanassa 12 hours later
Floating about Kanassa, Team Bardock and myself were standing on the hatch to our Saiyan pods. While I was explaining what happened after I stepped out of the restoration tank, I watched the world below me. I felt a power surge through me as I did. I had always wanted the power to live on my strength alone, and with my destruction of Ceres, it was proving to pay off. I wasn't going to stop there however, for I still had quite distance to travel in order to become the strongest. Not to mention the work it would take to maintain that. My heart began to pound in my chest with excitement. I would love if I could live a life of training and battle till I died. In fact dying in battle would be the way to go if I had to chose. All this and more was permeating my mind, and it was a good thing too, because I had a sudden urge to try and destroy Kanassa faster then I did Ceres. Like training myself to become more efficient at destroying planets.
It's not like this planet was anything special. Why my mother wanted me to come here was beyond me but I respected my elders, especially when they could throw me into the sun without breaking a sweat. Besides it was like I said, I wanted to fight something after that dismal fight with the Brainiac bots. So refraining for blowing this mud-hole to oblivion would have to wait.
I had finished my accounting of destroying Ceres and fight with the Brainiac bots and Bardock did not look or sound happy.
"So instead of contacting the warriors occupying Ceres for help, you decided to blow them and the planet to hell?" Bardock's tone wasn't just disappointed but on the verge of letting anger boil over. He valued almost every Saiyan life, something that was uncommon in our kind. Mostly, we valued our comrades closest to us, if any existed at all, or the strong, or both. It probably had something to do with the fact that he was a scientist. Other then that one aspect about his character, I never could get a good read on him. His son, Raditz, on the other hand was a hot-headed oaf that barely had any brain cells to rub together, and was uncaring of any life what-so-ever. Still, he was a comrade, and I wasn't about to hate him for being weak considering I was weaker then him when we met. Actually, come to think of it, that is a perfectly good reason to hate him. He has no excuse to still be weak if I could get as strong as I am now!
"Yeah, as I've said, this Brainiac didn't seem to be disintegrating the bodies, ships or cities with his attacks. It looked more like they were being transported. You know damn well those warriors would have rather died then be slaves again." Bardock's grimace was present only for a few more moments after I had given my explanation before relenting. Taking a deep breath and holding it before breathing out, the team leader groaned. I was pretty sure I knew why.
"King Vegeta will not be happy about this." Fascha chimed in.
"So what? You can deal with my mother then while I get executed by the King. I absolutely without hesitation take that deal. Thank you Fascha for volunteering." A snort and some snickering could be heard from Shugesh, Tora, and Borgos. Shugesh straight up laughing heartily.
"Mizuna must be a devil or something to give birth to a weakling like you, and still you can blow up planets?" I growled at Shugesh for his remark after noting Fascha's shiver at the idea of dealing with my irate mother. Before I could give him a good beating, Bardock interrupted us.
"Careful, Shugesh. The boy here has grown his power level by an exponential rate since we last saw him a year ago." Bardock was smiling. I wasn't expecting him to be so happy about such a thing, even among comrades we were a competitive people. It's what kept us strong.
"Really? You can't be serious Bardock." Shugesh, along with the other members of Bardock's team scanned me with their scouters. The looks on their faces reading the results were priceless, but also interesting considering I wasn't quite sure what my power level was.
"How the hell are you 6000!"
"Holy shit!"
"He was barely 2000 a year ago!"
"Seriously! I want to know! When?! I mean... How?!"
The reactions from most of the team was filling me with pride, not to mention my current power level made me ecstatic.
"Is it really surprising?" I started with a mocking tone. "I may have been the weakest Saiyan ever born, but I was born with greater potential and I'm destined for greatness. It's also called hard work, but I don't think you know anything about that, do you big man." It was more a jab at Shugesh's weight than a question. He shouted at me and was about to challenge me to a fight when Bardock interrupted the back and forth.
"Everybody shut the hell up this instant!" All present did as they were told. Bardock was the leader of the team and the strongest out of all of us. By no small margin either.
Tired of hearing our childish bickering and itching for a fight he proceeded to brief us on the planet. Honestly, it wasn't a long brief. These Kanassan scum are bipedal, use telepathy as well as telekinesis, and are capable of utilizing their Ki. Still won't be a match for us. One thing that did catch my attention were the prevelant rumours about their kind.
Supposedly, their entire race was capable of seeing the future. None of the stories are consistent on whether or not they can control the power, how far into the future they can see, how many details they can see, or anything of the sort. One story has them as prophets foretelling events from the far future, and others depict them as beings driven mad by their short, cryptic premonitions.
Either way, they would kneel before us.
On Kanassa
These Kanassans were clever and enjoyable to fight.
It appeared their ability to divine future events was more then just rumour. They had been waiting for us, letting lose an ambush when we landed. We could only guess that their clairvoyance was the only way they could have known to set up in that particular location. Not only that, but they managed to destroy our scouters in that ambush, keeping us from being able to track all of them.
There were countless numbers. Though individually they were weak, they had far more manpower then us. The five Saiyans of Team Bardock and myself split off into groups of two. Fascha and Borgos, Bardock and Tora, and I was with Shugesh. Each group taking on about 4 or 5 per person, making it around 8-10 enemies for each group. At least that's how it started.
We made short work of the initial members of the ambush, but they were just the distraction for the other defenders of their planet to arrive and join in. I lost count after slaughtering my 20th victim. Stronger enemies were revealing themselves as well, and so we were starting to get a bit overwhelmed. Their premonitions of some of our attacks helped some fight, while it hinder others.
Shugesh prevented a strike to the back of my neck that would have been detrimental to my ability to keep up my defences. We didn't stop to our combat, simply speaking through the sounds of war.
"You're a little slow brat! Hahaha!" Shugesh's laugh rang out as he was crushing one opponent after another. A neck snapped here, a disembowelled torso there, we didn't shy from brutality.
"You move pretty fast for a fat man!" I fired back, weaving out of the way of a kick while leveling my hand in my attackers direction firing a Ki beam through it's chest, incinerating 3 others.
Without looking I grabbed an arm aiming for my head and twisted 360 degrees, giving a warning to Shugesh to duck, using it's body to pummel our assailants back.
"Nice move! Good to know I don't have to save your life all night?" When he mentioned that it was night time I smirked, realizing how we should end the fight, growing tired of this endless onslaught of weaklings. There was no real challenge here, just a horde of enemies that may have us run out of energy before we can kill them all.
That was unacceptable.
Bardock mentioned this planet had no moon, apparently it had been destroyed. Probably another decision made based on divination of future events. Unfortunately for them, at least two of us could make a power ball.
"Bardock! We need a power ball!" I yelled. Shugesh body blocked half a dozen Kanassans in order to allow me to escape another melee.
I could just make the power ball now, but the others would be to busy defending themselves to focus on it. The power ball may transform us, but it takes longer then a moon does. So I figured I'd make some space. Especially now that I can get a better look of the battlefield, and witness the horde of Kanassans that surrounded us. I couldn't even count them.
Charging Ki into my palms, I angled myself to cover as much of the battlefield as I could and looked over to the city. A wicked grin crossing my face.
"Let's rain hellfire." I unleash multiple Ki blasts across the battlefield and towards the city.
Hitting several targets, while many seemed to be able to foresee my attack and either dive out of the way, or try to reduce the amount of damage I would do to the city by sacrificing themselves to protect it. It didn't matter.
Bodies were falling out of the sky now and the city had taken a few hits, causing much of the forces to shield the city, now blocking it with Ki shields as a united front. Luckily, this called many Kanassan away from us to do so.
"Nice work Sadala! Power Ball coming up!" I turn to Bardock just in time to see him throw the power ball into the air. It soars high into the atmosphere before it stops dead. Bardock squeezes his hand shut and gives a sharp flick of the wrist, twisting his fist.
I stopped my attack as the ball burst into a brilliant silver light, illuminating the corpses we had already made. My blood was already pumping from the fight and even more so when I started causing wanton destruction, but the feeling I got as I was staring at a moon or power ball was unlike anything else. I could coat my hands in the blood of my enemies and it still wouldn't compare to the intoxicating feeling I got from allowing the great ape out to play.
My eyes went blank, my heart threatening to pound out of my chest, my breathing became heavily rhythmic, and I could feel my body straining, expanding, as 10 times the power I already had began to surge through me. I didn't need to look around to see the rest were feeling the same. I couldn't hear the Kanassans approaching us again for my heart beat was pounding in my ears. Suddenly, the transformation took place and I began to grow in size rapidly.
The strange thing about it was that I was holding onto control for a bit longer then usual. The Oozaru not fully taking hold for a brief moment, allowing me the site of my fellow Saiyans roaring a battle cry while pounding there chests. I could almost hear myself laugh, a deep, almost demonic laugh. I joined in the roaring and chest pounding.
Yes, we would crush these insects, bring their cities to ruin, and destroy their wold. None could stand against the mighty Saiyan race! We were an elite race of warriors! WE WOULD CONQUER IT ALL!
Then, my vision went black. It always happened, sooner or later Oozaru takes over, and the man takes a nap. Except, recently I had been dreaming about my exploits as the Great Ape. The first few times it happened, I had assumed my mind was just trying to give me a bit of a show while I was sleeping, like I was only dreaming what it was like to be an Oozaru. However, from the few times I had Frieza Force members working with me and my team reported to us our exploits, I realized I was likely getting some images or flashbacks from my time as the Oozaru.
When I came to, and I was swatting Kanassans lunging for my throat out of the air, I nearly laughed. What fools, thinking they could take on the... wait. Was I seeing this?
Then I blacked out again. Sleeping, not peacefully however, as if the raging flame within our hearts made itself known to us when we weren't in control. This feeling was immense fury.
Then I was back, simultaneously crushing a Kanassan in my hands, and firing a Ki attack out of my mouth, cutting a swath through the Kanassan army. Before I would black out again.
This continued for most of the battle, my consciousness would return as a passenger in my transformed body, witnessing the destruction and slaughter of the Kanassan people. I realized some key differences between this transformation and the last.
Normally, my vision is a bit murky, like I just was hit in the eye or just woke up. Not to mention the amount of time spent witnessing the events, along with the frequency of viewing my exploits, had increased. I wondered how long it would be before I'd be able to witness the whole thing, and then from there control it.
I had remained unconscious after the last image of me and the others demolishing the Kanassan City. Having the ability to see the future and for all their planning they still couldn't stop us.
Eventually, consciousness returned to me in full. I felt heavy, not too unusual after being in the Great Ape form. Normally all injuries by the time a Saiyan returns to their normal state are healed, but there can be strain on the muscles, like when you do a hard work out. This didn't hinder me so much, as I was used to it by this point.
Opening my eyes, I was greeted with the sight of the still, star peppered sky. It was somewhat peaceful. I hear a groan to my right and I look over to see Bardock just waking up, the other members of his team still unconscious. That was new. Normally I would regain consciousness around the same time as everybody I worked with, save for the Elite Saiyans who had control of their forms and stayed awake.
Feeling comfortable in my position, I simply lifted my hands and placed them behind my head. Bardock sat up and rested his arms on his knees.
"Morning, sunshine. Got a new scar?" I stated, eyeing the new mark on his cheek. Bardock raised his hand and touched the already healed scar and smirked.
"Somebody caught me in the face with a Ki attack. He died horribly for it." That caught my interest.
"You remember you're time as an Oozaru?" Bardock looked up at the sky for a few seconds in silence before answering me.
"I don't know. Do you ever dream about your time in that form?" I now sat up straight. I wasn't the only one?
"Yeah, actually I do! It started 6 months ago." I exclaimed. I was excited by the prospect of what this meant. I hadn't heard of low-class warriors becoming strong enough to remember or even control their Oozaru forms.
Bardock looked at me with a look of surprise before a smile crept onto his face. He turned to face me.
"How much of it do you get?" He asked. Excitement flowing out of him at the prospect.
"It used to be just a few slightly blurred images here and there. This last time though, things were more clear to me, and my vision returned to me more frequently. I also appeared to hold on to a semblance of control near the end of the transformation, but quickly lost myself the to the primal beast. You?" Bardock rubbed his chin for a moment, thinking about his answer before sticking his finger in the air.
"Interesting. I would hear things at first, not so much visuals. Recently, I've been able to hold on for a bit longer before losing control to the ape inside and then the same as you, would come in and out for the ride. For me however, this has been happening for a year. I think I'll gain control and remember everything very soon." Bardock rubbed his hands together in anticipation as he thought of the control over the powerful form. My body was buzzing with the prospect as well.
"You think we can attribute this to our growth in power?" I was curious if we approached the power levels of the mid-high class warriors, we would be closer to gaining control over our Oozaru. It was either that or some kind of exposure to the beast within that would allow us to become familiar enough with the form to control it.
"I'm not sure. The Elites among us are capable of controlling the Oozaru from the time they are born. Mid-class warriors are a toss up in that regard but normally they have control early in their lives. As for us low-class... well honestly I've never heard of any of us being able to eventually master the Great Ape. Maybe we'll be the first." He grinned mischievously. A clear understatement of challenge as to who would get there first. I myself was smirking.
"I'll be sure to let you know what it's like to control such power. You know, so you can get an accurate report for your research." Bardock chuckled.
"We'll see, bra-" Bardock was interrupted by a strike to the back of his neck, the hand belonging to a Kanassan. Bardock slumped to the ground and I immediately tried to stand, but was struck by another behind me in much the same way.
I could hear the voices of the now awakened team Bardock yelling a battle cry as they engaging our attackers, before falling into darkness.
