A Month Later

"Hey, you ok? You look a little... out of it."

"I'm fine, I have a class in 5 minutes. I'll see you at lunch, yh?" She tried to give a small smile but it didn't reach her eyes.

"I'll walk you there, I have to substitute, I can be a little late."

"No it's fine. I'm fine Callie." Arizona said a little more sternly. She looked around to make sure she hadn't drawn much attention to them. "I'll see you at lunch." she said again in a softer tone.

Callie watched her walk away before turning in the opposite direction. They had talked this morning just before the bell rang to start school and although the blonde still managed to muster a couple smiles, the conversation lacked her usual enthusiasm. She couldn't put her finger on it but something was off.

She has been in this position for five minutes now, with her head in her hands.

"...Ms. Robbins" the last call finally got her attention.

Her class was suppose to be taking a test, she hoped it would take them the full two periods.

Propping her chin on knuckles, she lifted her gaze to the student, giving a half hearted smile. "Is something wrong Alexis?"

"Some of the papers are in upside-down and the words are fading." She held up the paper which did in fact have some papers stapled the wrong way.

She internally berated herself before answering. "I'm sorry, bring it up her so I can fix it and I'll write the faded parts on the board so everyone knows what's suppose to be there. Are anyone else's papers in the wrong way?" A couple hands went up and she sighed to herself.

Arizona stayed a little later at the school yesterday than normal having these papers printed and put together. She was so tired she didn't bother making sure everything was how it's suppose to be.

"So..." Callie started.

It had been a pretty much silent walk down to the car park up till now. Odd silence. Not awkward, but definitely different to what they were accustomed to, the same with lunch.

Arizona didn't have it in her to engage in much of a conversation today. She went to sleep earlier than usual after getting home yesterday but was somehow tired like she never slept, she was feeling everything but nothing at the same time. She found herself retreating to her own thoughts for most of the day, she doubts it went unnoticed but she was glad no one pushed her into talking.

"Hey." The firm tone caught her attention and she realised there was now a barrier blocking her path. "Are you ok?"

Callie stood between her and the car door she was about to pull, she hadn't even realised they were already in the parking lot. It was like she was on autopilot.

"Yeah I'm fine, I told you that already." Arizona made an effort to look anywhere but at her. "I'm tired, I just want to go home."

"What's going on? You've been distracted."

This was going on the entire week but it wasn't something ignorable anymore.

"Nothing, I'm good. Just trying to help Tim get

his things together for moving, I'm a little tired that's all." Arizona gave as much of a smile as she could manage .

Callie stared at her for a while not sure if she should believe her or not.

"Are you sure?" She asked stepping aside from the car door.

"Yeah. I'll let you know when I'm home." Arizona gave her one more smile and a wave before getting in the car and starting it.

Later that evening

Callie- Hey, I know I asked a million times already but it's still bugging me. Are you absolutely sure there's nothing bothering you?

Callie planned to wait for Arizona to message first but she hadn't even said she got home so it didn't feel like the message would come. She checked her phone every five minutes hoping there was a notification with a reply even though she knew her phone hadn't buzzed at all since she pressed send. Callie couldn't shake the feeling that something was off with Arizona but she tried to give her space.

First thing in the morning Callie rolled over to check again. There was a reply.

Arizona- Hey sorry I'm just replying. Yes I'm fine, it's ok. I was just tired.

The nagging feeling was still there but she left it.

Callie- Ok, i hope you got some rest in then. See you at school?]

Arizona- Yeah of course.

The rest of the week went by with the same disengaged interactions. Their conversations lacked the spark they usually had. Somewhere in Callie's mind she wondered if Arizona was getting bored, if whatever they had going for the past few months was just at it's end.

"I don't know Cal, she's been like that with everyone lately." Addison was trying to reason with Callie.

"But why?" Callie grated her mind trying to come up with possible reasons but each one had a hole in its logic.

"Only Arizona can answer that for you."

"That's the thing! She isn't saying much of anything!" Callie stressed. "Every one of her sentences either ends with "I'm fine" or "it's ok " . What does that mean Addie?"

"Do you think maybe you're pushing her for answers she isn't ready to give? Maybe she just wants you to be there, dont push too hard, she'll come when she's ready." Addison tried to be the voice of reason.

Callie sighed and nodded. "Okay." She felt helpless, there really was no way to help if she doesn't know what's going on.

She finally heard her voice on the fourth ring.

"Hello?"

She couldn't get her mouth to open.

"Arizona, what's the matter?" the once groggy voice sounded more alert now.

"Callie, could you come over?" her voice raw and hoarse, she bearly managed to push out the words just above a whisper.
