Chapter 25: Tony and Dave
They were two strange men to Rick and his friends. Two strangers, with their own story to tell. It hadn't always been like this, Dave thinks. He hasn't always needed to rob people and steal their things. There was a time where the old version of him would have been sick to his stomach and would puke his guts out, seeing him doing the things he does today. But that version of Dave is dead. Along with his wife and his ten year old son and eight year old daughter.
As dead as they've been since the day the babysitter turned into a monster and attacked all three of them while he was at work. When he came home, he saw nothing but blood and his wife, Karen, lying on the ground, bloody. Karen begged him to save the children but it was too late. Then he found her reanimated a few hours later and had to shoot her and his children.
He cried for the only time in his life and fled the city. Fort Benning is where he would go. Fort Benning had everything, they said. Food. Soldiers. Military. As reliable as the military had been during his time as a recruit, he believed their words. He took his friend and neighbor, Tony, and slowly they gathered a group of men who did whatever they could to survive.
They were good men at first. Then the killing began. Than the rape. The other men wanted to do it, and he couldn't stop them.
He just did the talking and stole from the people he encountered. He at first couldn't bear to hear the screams of the girls.
But Tony…Tony liked it. Tony was turned on by it. Randall and the others were sick fucks. That much was for sure. He couldn't do anything about it. He knew he should have, they were like his wife and his daughter.
They were someone else's wife and daughter, someone's sister or niece.
Why did he turn his eyes away from the truth? Because they were the only company he had.
Otherwise it was the dead people and they were not company he desired to have.
About Fort Benning. When they got there it was okay at first for a week or two.
But then people started becoming monsters left and right and the freaks appeared from nowhere. The soldiers panicked and started shooting everyone and then also turned. Dave and Tony decided to run for it and on the way out they encountered Randall and his group.
They took advantage of them and hurt them. He knew they were bad people. He knew he was bad. He knew he deserved it.
That was why when the sheriff pointed the gun at his head and pulled the trigger, Dave was ready to accept the end. He'd done enough evil.
Let him go to hell as he deserved. He'll meet the god he once believed in.
