Chapter 31: Milton Mammet

He doesn't plan on becoming a doctor to the Mr. Hyde.

He doesn't plan on his friend going insane.

It just happens, and you live and deal with things as they happen.

Milton is too gentle, too kind, too good to comprehend the bad things Philip has done in any way besides twisting it to make the best possible definition out of them.

Because doing otherwise would mean acknowledging that man he met a year ago before all of this is a monster.

Acknowledging that the apocalypse brought out his true colors or that it broke him would break Milton, so he doesn't elaborate to himself.

Obviously, there's an explanation. Obviously.

That's why he has an undead daughter. He's trying to heal her and revive them-they can be saved.

Andrea is insane, why would she stab a man when he moved after dying? The man agreed to this.

Surely Tyreese and Sasha are wrong for feeling uncomfortable about being here.

They're good people, he knows that. The doctor on the other side and the sheriff are good men, too.

He knows as much, he shared a laugh with them, too. What kills his faith in his friend is when he decides to torture others for no reason.

Those walkers cannot go to that prison. They cannot kill those people. He will not let this happen.

For the first time in his life, Milton stands up against Philip.

He does what has to be done. He both expected and didn't expect Philip to retaliate.

He just didn't think he would hurt him.

'Weren't we friends? Or was I the only one who thought that?' He tries to save Andrea, but she is too slow in freeing herself.

He knows this as his consciousness melts away into death and the walker takes over.

Milton died trying to do the right thing and became a monster.
