Author's Note: I know this is a short chapter, but I didn't want to show all of Bright's childhood in the book. That would be filler, or something like that. I wanted to get straight to the action of the first HTTYD movie, which happens in the next chapter.

andreamassocco98: Thank you for your comment on the previous chapter. And to answer to your concern, no. Bright wasn't thinking of running away. You will find out what the message to Eret was later in the series. And I hope this cleared for your statement about describing Bright Lightwalker's clothes in this chapter. I have the image as a Work in Progress currently, that's why you cannot see it yet (as it's not finished). Also, I cannot wait more than a day to post a new chapter (call it a habit of mine), so I can't have a month's break at all.

Chapter 3: Flight to Berk

It had been no more than a week since Bright met some humans and met Eret, Son of Eret, who was generous enough to have taught him to speak Norse, but had it not been for his family who interrupted after attacking the longboat, he distanced himself from them during the week. However Bright was forgiven by Flashwing and Lightwing who, after learning it was Luna who flew close to the ship, scolded her for her adventurous side.

But Bright still distanced himself from the three Light Furies, though he was soon reconciled with his dragon parents who were relieved for his acceptance of their apology for grounding him.

"What should I do now?" Bright asked himself as he was on the beachfront of the Dragon Nest. "I've met my species…but they were not exactly the friendly kind. So, what then?"

He sighed, lowering his gaze to the sandy ground. Bright wasn't sure what to do, nor did he like to do the thing that might disappoint his family, especially putting Luna in danger again. Bright was forgiving to Luna after she apologized for getting themselves captured by the Dragon Trappers, and he reassured her it was fine.

After all, she is family, and my sister, Bright thought, staring out to the vast ocean. I can't risk the same situation again. His thoughts from the experience of being captured remained as he turned and walked into the Nest.

Once he was at their nest, Bright looked at Luna's curled form as she was sound asleep. It was still early in the morning, and everyone except him was asleep.

Bright walked away from the nest and went over to the Alpha, Scales, who was still awake from the mishap between the Light Furies and Bright, and Scales smiled caringly at the human.

"Not tired yet, Bright?" Scales asked him in a soft tone.

"It's early in the morning, Alpha," Bright replied. "I couldn't get more sleep. Anyway, I thought of something; why did my parents not know what was happening that time when the Dragon Trappers had captured me and my sister?"

Scales hummed in thoughts. "They wouldn't want you to feel angry with them for taking you."

Bright tilted his head. "Taking me? From who?"

"That's yet to be answered," Scales replied with a sigh. "You will find out in due time, Bright."

Bright, unlike with his parents, nodded to the Alpha, since he was bonding with Scales every single day that went by. They were practically like grandfather and grandson who understood each other.

"However," continued Scales, seeing Bright about to turn, "There is someone who I would like for you to see. He's a friend of the Nest."

"Who?" Bright wondered, tilting his head. I wonder who that could be?

"Come with me," Scales commanded, stepping down from the Alpha rock as he continued walking, with Bright following closely behind. "This person was someone who has been watching you ever since you were little," he explained.

"Person?" Bright asked.

"Yes, Bright. It's better that I show you who it is rather than telling you," Scales responded, turning around a corner, while Bright followed him.

There, sitting on a flat rock with his hood covering his face, was a human in brown robes. When he heard footsteps and paws coming closer, he raised his hands to remove the hood from his face, revealing the face of an old man with gray hair and eyebrows, and he had cerulean blue eyes.

"Ah, so there you are, Bright," the man smiled, standing. "I was beginning to feel like you have forgotten me."

"Uh," started Bright, tilting his head, "who are you?" His warble was understood by the man, whose smile remained.

"I am Arne, a friend of the Nest, and I have been watching you since you were brought here by Flashwing."

Bright blinked. "How do you know? And how do you understand Dragonese so perfectly?"

"One question at a time," Arne lifted a hand, indicating his pause. "First, I am sure that you are confused as to why I am here, correct?"

Bright nodded.

"It's because I sensed something was in trouble a week ago, but I took no action to it," Arne said. "It was sad to me that you were captured by Eret and his men. I know them very well, and I came across them a few times in my life.

"As for the reason why I am here, it's to teach you how to speak Norse properly, so you can communicate with fellow humans such as myself."

"Uh…" Bright looked at Scales, who smiled.

"He's telling what he needs to tell you," Scales said. He looked at Arne. "If you wouldn't mind, would you watch him while his family is resting for the morning?"

"Of course, Alpha Scales," Arne nodded. "I shall do my best."

Scales nodded in return, and then whispered something to Bright's ear before leaving them alone.

Bright looked at the Alpha's disappearing form as he rounded a corner of the area. He turned to Arne, who sat down again. "Why have you been watching me?"

"That will be answered in due time," Arne replied. "First, I need to teach you how to communicate with our language, as I told you, Norse. Do you know how to read and write?"

Bright shook his head.

"I see." Arne thought for a moment. "Then I shall teach you how to read."

Bright's eyes shone briefly.

Arne chuckled. "Excited, are we, my young friend? That's good." He cleared his throat. "I have this parchment with me," he showed Bright a rolled parchment in his hand, "and we're starting at the lowest level of studying. We're beginning with the alphabet of Norse."

"While I don't know what that means," Bright began to say, "I'm more than ready to learn."

Arne's smile returned. "That's all I can ask for. Let's begin."

A few hours later, Bright was sitting with Arne as the man was teaching him the basics of Norse. At first, Bright struggled to even write an A, but he was slowly learning from his mistakes.

At the Light Fury nest, Luna was beginning to rouse from her sleep and yawned. She noticed her brother was nowhere to be seen. "Bright?" she called, standing on her paws and started her search for him. Soon she saw him sitting with an old man on a flat rock, with the man teaching him something. "What are you doing, Bright?"

Bright heard her and smiled at her. "Hey, sis. I am being taught how to write Norse, the language of the humans."

Luna tilted her head. "Why do you need that?"

"It's so I can communicate with others of my race better," he answered.

"He's right, Ms. Luna," Arne nodded. "I am giving him lessons on human culture. Why not join us? You might want to have fun."

Luna shook her head. "I have no interest in learning human languages."

"Understandable," Arne said, and then returned his gaze to Bright. "Let's continue with you writing a B."

Bright nodded.

Luna stood where she was, confused at the exchange between the two. Somehow, she felt left out by her brother, and she turned and walked away.

"I think she's feeling left out," Bright noted.

"I think so, too," Arne agreed. "But let's focus for now." He saw what Bright had written, but shook his head. "No, that's not a human alphabet B. Try again."

Bright sighed, but continued his lesson with Arne watching him.

Ten years passed, and Bright was getting the hang of having Arne around as a teacher. Bright was growing slightly taller, and he soon outgrew his clothes, with Flashwing and Lightwing soon taking some new clothes from a human village for him. This time it was a long-sleeved, brown tunic with darker leather lacing at the neck and arms, with a lighter brown fur vest that matched his boots, and he wore light-grayish pants.

Luna has grown bigger as well. Her appearance and beauty had a significant change of her body, while her wings were still sparkling. Her larger body allowed Bright to easily ride her on their flights together.

One morning, Bright was patting his sister's back as she was getting ready for a flight. "Where should we fly?" he asked.

"To an island," she replied. "I have no clue which one, though."

"Shall we say…the Isle of Berk?" Bright asked.

Luna nodded, spreading her wings and took flight into the skies above. Her ability to camouflage in the clouds has gradually improved with her white scales, but with Bright on her back, enemies would surely notice where she was going to be at.

The flight was long and exhausting for Luna, as she flew to the Isle of Berk. The island, with rocks around in the water, had a forest of trees behind a single village, which lay on the edge of the island.

"Let's fly to the forest," Bright told her. "We wouldn't want to attract attention."

Luna agreed with a nod and flew away from sight of the village and into the forest below. Her soft landing was successful as she folded her wings and Bright got off her. "This place looks nice," she commented.

"I know," Bright said. "I will take a look around. See if you can find a place to cover yourself, sis." His human speech was fairly good, thanks to Arne's teachings.

With Luna walking away from him, Bright decided to walk to the village, and see if he could find someone who would be able to be friends. Bright missed having humans as friends. Aside from Arne, he never had anyone else as a friend, and so he would do anything to earn their trust.

If any of the Vikings here on Berk was to be a threat, Bright would immediately fly off with Luna in case it happened.

Like it would ever happen, if they discovered my origin, Bright thought as he continued through the woods. Soon he stood on top of a cliff that overlooked the village of Berk, and it was already nighttime, he noticed. I guess this happened while we were flying, he noted.

Shrugging it off, Bright made his way down to the village.
