Author's Notes [Edit, 21-06-2023]: I've finally rewritten this chapter. It took me a long time to do this, so I hope it's more enjoyable for you guys to read and get information of Bright's origins.

The next book will be "Riders of Berk" (Season 1 of DreamWorks Dragons).

And to answer someone's question about HTTYD 2 and HTTYD 3: Yes, I am planning to do them both, but the third movie will play out differently now that Toothless has met a Light Fury early in the story.

Chapter 20: The Truth

Bright could not believe what he had heard from his father. He pondered over the words, then said, "So...I am not really your child?" He wanted a confirmation. Inside him, his heart was breaking from a lack of words.

Flashwing sighed. "You've always been our child, Bright. Please understand that I am trying to tell you the truth."

Bright looked at him. "The truth? What are you talking about?"

"The truth is..." Flashwing began, carefully choosing his words. "I had been there, on your home island—Fría Island—ever since you were merely a day old and came across the residence where you was being kept. A woman came barging in, and I tried to defend myself when I accidentally gave you that scar on your chin."

Bright blinked. "Why? Why take me from...my home?"

Flashwing gave a look of apologetically. "It's because you were special, Bright. You understood dragons more than humans does. That is why I took you from your island; it was to protect your ability to understand us and to keep you safe from potential harm." A pause. "I know that I did something wrong when I did it, but Lightwing was kind enough to accept you when I arrived at the Nest with you."

Bright lowered his gaze to the ground. His face looked like he was feeling tears from his eyes. "But, if you did it to protect me, then why haven't I known the truth sooner before now?"

"I was afraid."

"Afraid?" Bright echoed. "Why would you, of all dragons, be afraid of a mistake?"

Flashwing lowered his head down. "I knew that when Arne arrived at the Nest, you would find out about it in time. However, you took the time to learn the human language from him, which I was happy about, but still I was afraid you would no longer accept us as your parents."

Bright comprehended his words slowly.

"I see you need time to comprehend this," Flashwing noted. "I will let you get time to think about this."

He was about to turn, when Bright asked, "Where is Fría Island located?"

Flashwing hummed, his throat rumbling. "To the far North of the Barbaric Archipelago. It will take you about a month on a dragon to get there."

Bright thanked him after he returned inside the house. Bright crossed his arms, thinking. What would Hiccup think about this? he wondered. Maybe I could get him to help me find Fría Island and reunite with my human parents. With the decision made up in his mind, he went inside to sleep for the night.

...

The next day, Bright awoke at the nudge of Luna, who smiled sweetly at him. "Mornin', sis," he greeted her in Dragonese. "What's up?"

Luna looked thoughtfully at him for a moment, then responded, "Mother, Father and Alpha Scales are about to leave. I thought maybe you'd like to see them off?"

Bright blinked, realizing he must had overslept past the morning. "Damnit!" he cursed, which Luna blinked at the word. "Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"

"I tried, but you only turned around," she replied.

Bright removed the blankets and stood on his feet, then got dressed with his clothing. He fastened his steps, with Luna following behind him towards the door of the house. After opening and walking out, Bright was greeted by Lightwing, who had her usual motherly smile to him.

"I was wondering when you was beginning to wake up, son," she spoke. "We are about to return to the Nest. Are you and Luna going to be alright by staying here on Berk?"

Bright nodded. "Yes, mom. I—or we—are going to enjoy our stay on Berk. I hope you three are having a good trip home." He eyed his father, who looked away in guilt.

Lightwing nuzzled him. "Always remember we are there when you need us, my dear children."

Bright gave her a hug, which she returned by lifting a paw over his back. Luna was nuzzling her father, who whispered something to her, and Alpha Scales cleared his throat.

"I think it's about time we are leaving," Scales spoke.

Bright and Luna stepped back, as Flashwing and Lightwing spread their wings and took flight with the Alpha up into the sky, where their sight vanished by the white clouds.

Stoick came over to Bright. "I take it this means you two will be staying?"

"Yes, Chief," Bright replied. "We are."

Stoick gave him a fatherly smile. "That's good." He looked over to Hiccup and Toothless, who were both happy to have heard the words. "I think it's about time we should get the day going, don't you two think?"

"Yes," the two boys nodded.

"We are going on our daily routine," Hiccup said to Bright. "Wanna join us?"

"Do you even need to ask, Hicc?" Bright smiled.

Hiccup shrugged.

"Let's go," Toothless said enthusiastically to Luna. "We should leave these things to our Riders."

"Sure," Luna replied. She looked at Bright, who gave his affirmative nod, before she walked with Toothless away from the plaza.

"Where are they going?" Hiccup wondered.

"Somewhere," Bright answered, then jokingly stated: "Maybe to mate."

Luna's ears perked up at the joke. "We are not mating!" she called over to her brother.

Bright chuckled. "What are we going to do for the day?" he asked Hiccup, who smiled.
