Author's Notes: Hi everyone! Excuse me for the long, late update on this story. I've been very busy with other projects, like "Dawn Before Twilight" I recently posted, for example. And thus, I got no time to write on Siblings of Light, but since I have written a good chunk of my MLP story, I might be able to return to "SoL". In case you don't see another update, then I'm most likely busy again.
[Edit, 24-06-2023]: I added a new scene to the chapter. I did think about adding the new scene after initially writing the book, so now I have finally done it.
Chapter 22: Journey to the North
Bright was sitting on Luna as she flew alongside Toothless and the other dragons, who had their Riders as they were flying through the air above the ocean. Bright was getting a bit restless for the many hours they've already had used for flying from Berk.
"How much further, Bright?" Snotlout asked, his voice sounding impatient.
"Still much longer, Snot," Bright answered. "We're not even a day away from Berk."
"Seriously, I need to stretch my legs," Snotlout called over the winds. "I can't take much more of flying in the air."
"I'm with him," Hookfang added to Bright in Dragonese. "My wings are getting tired as they are. And we need to find someplace to land soon, because we dragons need rest after a long journey."
Bright sighed. "All right," he said loudly. "Let's find someplace to land, everyone."
Snotlout was sighing in relief, as they flew to the side, when they noticed a piece of an island a few meters from them.
"We will land over there and rest," Bright informed, pointing to the island.
Luna flew toward the island and landed on the ground, while Bright got off her and stretched his arms. Soon afterward, the other Riders landed and stretched theirs as well when they got off their dragons.
Hiccup approached Bright. "I never thought it would take this long to reach Fría Island," he admitted. "If I knew better, we would have made it by now."
"Even if the journey to the North is longer than you realized?"
"Yeah, exactly."
Bright smiled. "Don't worry, Hicc. I think we will reach it in a few more days, a week at most, if we continue at this pace."
"It was lucky for us that you know exactly where to go, Bright," Astrid noted, joining them.
"I didn't; I merely used what information father told me where it will be located," Bright shrugged in admittance.
"Either way," Astrid said. "It would be good to not have our journey take much longer than it needs to be."
"Astrid's right," Hiccup agreed. "If it took us more than a week, who knows when we would be able to get back to Berk, in case my dad speculated where we are?"
"It's a good thing you told him where we will be going," Bright said.
"Yes, otherwise he would be worried for us all."
"From what I have seen of Chief Stoick, he is the worrisome type for you, Hiccup," Bright smiled.
Hiccup rubbed the back of his neck with a hand.
"I don't think you should be telling him that, Bright," Luna told him. "He is getting awkward when you mention those things to him."
"Luna's right," Toothless agreed.
Bright looked at them. "Oh, would you be so kind to quit it, love dragons?" he teased.
"We are not in love!" Luna warned.
"Yes, you are," Bright smiled at her.
Luna growled at him in warning.
"Although we don't understand what you talk about with the dragons, it's better that we do not know about it," Hiccup said, with their friends agreeing with him.
After their rest, they continued on their way through the afternoon toward Fría Island.
…
Bright was resting beside Luna as evening eventually made it for the day. They had flown countless hours with their friends, and the dragons were getting tired from the flying and needed to rest on an island where they could have dinner together.
"How much further?" Fishlegs asked. "I've never flown this much with Meatlug before."
"We are still only a day of flight on our journey, Fishlegs," said Bright. "If we keep up with this pace, we will arrive at Fría Island within the week."
"I hope so," Fishlegs sighed. "I am getting tired, so is Meatlug, for all the flying. Gronckles need to rest somewhere between long flights."
"We understand your concern, Fishlegs," said Hiccup. "We're just going to get going with this until we arrive at our destination."
"Besides," Astrid added, joining the conversation. "It's not like a long trip would hurt."
"No, I suppose not," Fishlegs agreed.
"Let's get finished and sleep for the night," Bright suggested. "It's best if we continue tomorrow after a good night's sleep."
"I agree," Snotlout nodded. "Hookfang needs his rest, or else he would be fired up."
"Why would I?" Hookfang asked, his voice only heard by Bright and the dragons. "I'm always fired up. I do not need sleep."
"I think he meant that you would be fired up without your rest," Bright informed the Monstrous Nightmare.
"Oh, I heard him." Hookfang looked at Bright with a grin. "It's not like he needs it. He is good enough without it."
"What did he say?" Snotlout asked, hearing Bright's chuckle.
"Nothing special," Bright replied.
"Uh-huh…"
"We should get some rest, all of us," Hiccup suggested. "We need our energy if we were to continue the journey to Fría Island."
"I agree with Hiccup," Toothless nodded to his human friend.
Bright agreed with them.
Soon they all took a good night's sleep.
...
The next day, the Riders continued their journey to Fría Island. The sun was slowly rising on the horizon, with its brilliant light shining brightly down on them as they made their way over the sea. Bright was staring ahead while he was deeply thoughtful. I wonder how they would react upon seeing me for the first time since I was born? he wondered. Maybe they would think they were seeing a ghost, or something. Nah, it's impossible for them to think that way about me. I am their son, he realized. They would probably be excited and happy to see me alive after all this time.
Luna briefly glanced up at him, with curiosity in her eyes. She knew he would be happy to be reunited with his long-lost, true parents after fourteen years of separation from them. However, deep down, she felt a tiny piece of her heart crack while she beat her wings to keep herself afloat above the water.
Hiccup had the same thoughts as Luna. However, he did not mind it, since he was an only child of a chief who would be worried about him. Maybe Bright's father was a chief as well? He considered the possibility. "Bright," he began. "Why don't we give our dragons some food?"
Luna blinked, realizing her growling stomach. "He may be right, brother. We didn't have breakfast this morning."
Bright nodded. "All right. Let's take a break, then eat something to fill our bellies."
The Riders and their dragons breathed in relief before they took a flight to the side towards a nearby island. The dragons landed on the stony ground of an island, then began walking a bit away from the humans.
Bright started fishing with a stick in one hand, while the others did the same. He looked at Hiccup, who stepped up beside him. "What is it, Hicc?"
"Something's been on my mind recently," he started. "Bright...could it be that your human father would be...an island's chief?"
Bright rubbed his chin with a free hand. "It's a possibility. All I remember was that my human mother had been the wife of a chief, so that would be very likely."
"I see," Hiccup smiled. "Then that would make you Fría Island's tribe heir, wouldn't it?"
"Yes."
Hiccup looked pleased.
They continued fishing for food until the day went from noon to afternoon. The Riders continued their journey to the Arctic Scar tribe of Fría Island.
