Chapter 1: First Day
Sun broke through the trees of Mt. Paozu as a rooster called out to indicate it was the beginning of another peaceful day. It had been 7 years since the terrible threat that was Cell and the Androids and the Earth has received an unprecedented era of peace since the monster was slain.
Now the boy who saw to this peace, Son Gohan, was preparing for a new challenge, for today is his first day of High School in the city.
A distant memory of his imaginary friend filled his dreams, almost as though his presence was felt through the night. But as his dream fades into obscurity, a small orange blur pounces on the teenaged Demisaiyan.
"WAKE UP GOHAN! MAMA SAID I CAN'T EAT BREAKFAST UNTIL YOU'RE AT THE TABLE!" the blur screamed in Gohan's face as Gohan tossed the small boy across the room with a playful smile.
"Alright, alright, I'm awake." Gohan rose out of bed and collected himself to prepare for a full day ahead. Before he even was fully dressed, Gohan gave his brother a smirk, "Race ya to the table squirt?" Gohan asked cockily as his brother returned the smirk.
"You bet!" the boy replied as he took off, not waiting for any countdown. Gohan shook his head, knowing his brother often and conveniently forgot rules to the games they played.
He put two fingers to his forehead and disappeared, before reappearing at the breakfast table and sitting down. He smiled as the young boy rounded the corner to the kitchen, a pout on his face as he saw his older brother.
"No fair! You cheated!" the boy exclaimed as Gohan shrugged.
"You didn't wait for the countdown Goten, you cheated first." Gohan pointed out as the boy rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Oh yeah, hehe, I forgot." Goten replied with a chuckle.
Gohan smirked, "How convenient." he remarked as he began loading his breakfast plate full of his mother's delicious food.
In a manner of minutes, the breakfast fit to feed a small platoon, had been devoured as Gohan stood with a huge smile. "Thanks for breakfast mom!" he said as he gathered up his bookbag and headed out the door.
Even though the school was 500 kilometers away and his father taught him Instant transmission in the three years leading up to the androids, he still preferred to travel on his father's cloud as he called out for the Flying Nimbus.
In the distance, the figure of Bardock watched as his grandson flew off to school. It had been Thirteen years since he had met that young boy in the woods as he trained to fight off Saiyan invaders. Now he couldn't help but look over the family, now that his son had passed away, fighting against Cell.
He couldn't help but feel some pride to see that not only had his progeny been the first to become Super Saiyans, but that they perfected the level beyond a super saiyan.
Unfortunately, his master, Babidi has also taken notice of these events. He has put plans in motion to somehow steal the energy of these super saiyans. Bardock has been lucky that he hasn't accidentally given up any information about his relationship to these Saiyans to his wizard master.
Knowing that Gohan would be alright on his own, he made it a mission to protect his other family in his free time.
Gohan landed at the border of Satan City, formerly known as Orange Star City. He chuckled at the sign as he walked past it. 'Dad, you would not believe this. Hercule actually managed to convince the world that he defeated Cell.' Gohan thought to himself as he started running toward his school.
On the way, he ran past a bank and he heard gunfire as he ran past, causing him to double back and take a look. "Man, people never seem to learn, do they?" Gohan asked himself as he looked side to side and transformed into a Super Saiyan, hoping not to be recognized.
Within seconds, the scene changed. The 3 gunmen were knocked out and the truck they meant to get away in was hanging upside down on a flagpole, the driver unconscious.
Gohan looked at his handy work with pride, as he dusted his hands off in his normal form. As he turned to walk away, he accidentally bumped into a girl, knocking her down.
Gohan was about to panic when he froze. Her eyes, despite a growing anger in them, immobilized him for just a moment.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry miss, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." Gohan apologized profusely as he attempted to assist her to her feet, only to receive a death glare from the girl.
She brushed his hand away and stood up on her own. "Just watch where youre going next time. Now tell me, what happened here!" She demanded as Gohan cocked his head to the side, slightly confused.
He looked back, completely forgetting about the bank robbery he had just foiled. "Oh, uh, I'm not totally sure. All I know is that I heard gunshots, so I took cover. Once they stopped, I tried my best to get away. I didnt even realize someone stopped those guys." Gohan told the girl, who was fairly convinced.
"I guess that makes sense. Sorry for snapping at you, you were probably scared out of your wits and I didn't help at all." The girl apologized as Gohan smiled.
Gohan looked down to see her Orange Star High badge and smiled, "We should get going if we want to get to class on time, am I right?" Gohan asked as the girl looked at Gohan's badge.
She pointed in the direction of the school, "You go on ahead. I'm gonna ask someone else around here what they may have seen." she stated as she walked towards the crime scene while the police gathered up the criminals.
"Oh Videl! I thought that was you! Wasn't he amazing?" an older man asked as he walked up to the girl.
"Who? What was amazing?" Videl asked as the old man stopped and pointed at the scene.
"The golden fighter! He had bright golden hair, like he was on fire, and in a matter of seconds, these thugs were rounded up like it was nothing!" the old man exclaimed as he re-enacted, poorly, some of the moves Gohan used. "As a matter of fact, I thought he might have been a friend of yours. He wore a button just like yours on his vest." the old man stated as Videl's eyed squinted.
'Everyone at school has to wear these things.' She thought to herself as she turned around in the direction she had just sent that spiky-haired boy. 'It couldn't be him, could it?' she asked herself as she popped a yellow jetcopter out of a capsule and started to make her way to school.
Gohan stood outside the door to his classroom. For some reason, his teacher, Mr. Asher, asked him to wait there so he could give the boy some grand introduction. "I just want to attend class. I dont need some big deal made out of the situation. Maybe this was a bad idea." He thought aloud to himself, not noticing a pig-tailed girl walking up to the classroom.
"It's you, huh?" Videl asked as Gohan broke from his thoughts to look at her, frozen once again by the bright blue eyes, far less hostile than before.
"Oh hey, I guess you didnt end up being late after all!" Gohan exclaimed with a cheerful tone.
Videl gave a weird look at him, not used to someone being so friendly to a stranger. "Yyeah, well even if I was, they give me a pretty wide berth. What are you doing standing out in the hall?" she asked, confused considering Mr. Asher usually gave her a hard time about tardiness in the mornings.
Gohan blinked at her, "Wow, you must be a pretty good student if they let you slack on attendance." Gohan remarked as he then moved to her question, shrugging as he spoke, "I don't know. Mr. Asher said something about how I should make a grand entrance and told me to wait out here for him to introduce me." Gohan explained with a light blush.
Videl smiled gently, this boy didnt seem to realize who she was, it's a nice change of pace.
"Really? You must have impressed the old man, he regards most students as degenerates." Videl chuckled.
Gohan let out a small chuckle with her, "Well good for me I guess." He stuck out his hand politely, "I'm Son Gohan, it's nice to meet you." he introduced himself politely as Videl took his hand.
"Hello Son Gohan, I'm Videl." She smiled, squeezing her hand to try and test this boy's grip strength. He might be nice, but he was the only other student in the vicinity of the bank robbery, she just knew he was hiding something.
Gohan, not noticing the pressure really just smiled at the girl and let go of her hand. Glad that he was able to formally meet someone without a fuss being made.
Gohan sat in his seat, hiding his face in a book, still feeling the embarrassment from being treated like some sort of glowing god over his entrance exam grade. All the other students immediately started making fun of him for his grades. All except two, Videl and her blonde friend, Erasa, the latter of which had invited him to sit by them.
Mr. Asher went onto his lecture, almost always calling on Gohan, as if to prove his intelligence to the rest of the class. Videl couldn't help but giggle at the new boy's plight of being a teacher's pet on his first day at school.
Despite that, Gohan was never fazed or tripped up by a single question he was called on to answer. Videl was pretty impressed by the encylopedia of knowledge that seemed to reside in the boy's brain.
At lunch, she would get her chance to talk a bit more to the new kid. At the ring of the bell, she went to get her lunch and to meet her friends at the courtyard. *BEEP BEEP BEEP*
And just like that, her opportunity was postponed. She'll have to find a new time to learn more about Gohan.
Bardock looked over the valley where his family resided in, sitting peacefully as an unwanted presence approached.
"What do you want Dabura?" Bardock asked, incapable of hiding his annoyance.
Dabura smirked devilishly, "I was just curious as to what you have been spending your days doing. After all, we have one job, and that is to serve Babidi." Dabura taunted as he looked down in the valley. "Surely youre not spending your time protecting these pitiful creatures. They will all fall at the might of Majin Buu."
Bardock scoffed, "Of course not. I'm just here to get some peace away from your bootlicking." Bardock retorted as Dabura's face contorted into anger.
"Why you brat! I am your superior and you will speak to me with respect!" Dabura exclaimed as Bardock rolled his eyes and began walking away.
Before he could get far, two bald men grabbed the Saiyan Warrior. "What the-!" Bardock exclaimed as Dabura walked around to face the warrior.
"You know, I'm starting to wonder if youre even needed anymore Bardock. You're rebellious to Master Babidi and we have some new learned and motivated young talent." Dabura stated, motioning to the bald men. "Perhaps I'll do Babidi a favor and deal with you!" Dabura exclaimed as he held a hand up and powered up an energy beam.
Before he could let it out, the scenery changed. They were returned to the ship, "Now, now boys, I need you both." The short wizard reprimanded. "Spopovitch, Yamu, you said this world martial arts tournament is how far away?" Babidi asked as the two bald men let go of Bardock.
"2 Months from now Master Babidi." Spopovitch replied from his knees as Bardock scoffed derisively at the pathetic slaves these men were.
Babidi noticed Bardock's attitude, "My, my, Bardock, you seem to be having an attitude issue as of late. Perhaps an adjustment is needed." Babidi scolded as he used his influence to enter Bardock's mind, causing the Saiyan to scream out in pain. "Kneel Monkey!" Babidi ordered as Bardock fell to his knees, doubled in pain.
"That's better, now you will follow my orders to the letter from now on. I need you here. No more venturing out on your own. When we eventually reveal ourselves at this world martial arts tournament, the Supreme Kai himself may make moves to prevent Buu's glorious resurrection, and I'm sure he will recruit the Earth's meager forces. You will be waiting on level 2 when they eventually arrive to try and stop me. If you give anything less than your best effort, I will kill you without a second thought. Am I understood!?" Babidi explained as Bardock fell completely to the ground, gripping his head as he writhed in pain.
Babidi gave an evil smile, "Good!" he said, taking Bardock's pain to be an affirmative. All the while, Dabura smirked in the corner as he watched the Saiyan writhing in agony.
