"Speech: Draconic"
Today was not a good day for Raskreia.
Getting summoned? She can deal with that. Getting summoned and then branded with magic like some animal? That is not ok. Sure, there have been worse things that could have happened to her 'I suppose I will play along for now. So far nothing absolutely bad has happened, besides I can leave whenever I want, plane shift and teleport be praised.' She thought to herself.
At this point the pink haired girl seems to be seething with anger and the rest of children are laughing at the "incompetence" of said pink haired girl. Meanwhile the bald man walks up to me.
"May I have a look at those rune on your hand?" He asks her politely.
"As long as you don't stamp anything else on me, sure I don't see the harm in it" after she reached out with her hand he grabs it and copies the runes from her hand over to a paper.
Raskreia however was growing impatient for answers at this point "Right! Soooo... is anyone going to explain to me what in the nine hells is going on here exactly and where I am?"
At this the pinkette answers before the man has a chance to "You are here because I have summoned you to be my familiar with the summon servant spell, and I am your master now." Rask rolls her eyes at that, which the girl doesn't seem to notice "And you are in Tristians academy of magic."
"Is there a reason why you couldn't have summoned something else after you summoned me, as I have quite clearly stated that I have no interest of becoming subservient to someone?"
This question was answered by the professor "The reason for that is that the spring-time summoning is an ancient holy tradition in which the second year students here at the academy summon their life long companions and once a familiar has been summoned one is not allowed to summon another, to do so would be heresy."
Rask raised an eyebrow at that "Holy tradition huh? Well alright ill stick around for a while. Its not like I have anything better to do anyway."
"A wise choice, now students its getting late go back to your rooms."
At this the children disperse by flying over a nearby wall. "I didn't think I would ever say this but, what a waste of magic." The only one who does not fly off is her new 'master' "Why don't you fly as well?"
"Because I don't want to alright? Now get the move on familiar"
"Could you not call me familiar? My name is Raskreia, or Rask for short, yours?"
"I will do no such thing, and my name is Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière, but you will refer to me as 'master'"
"That's a mouth-full of a name if I have ever heard one" The only ones she has ever heard having such names were some peculiar nobles and the occasional dragon.
Louise's room
"Alright nice room, only one bed tough. Where am I supposed to sleep then?" and the girl just points to a stack of hay in the corner "That just wont do, the fact that I have slept on worse doesn't even matter here. I will tell you this only once. I am neither your pet nor your slave. If you cant treat me with a basic amount of decency I will just leave."
"You will not leave. I am your master and I decide where you can and cant go and if you run away there will be an people hunting you down." Louse answered her in an annoyed tone.
Raskreia for her part cant really seem to wrap her head around the fact that someone this young, or at least who appeared so young, could be THIS arrogant.
"And what makes you think that I cant defend myself if something like that does occur?" If Louise caught the hint of a challenge in her tone she did not show it in the slightest.
"Because you are a commoner, commoners cant fight against nobles." The girl said this as though it was a most basic fact of the universe and nothing can change that.
"This is one of those places huh? Tell me what makes you nobles so great that commoners cant fight against you?" Armies? It takes farmers to collect the food to feed an army in the first place. Knowledge? There is a point at which knowledge wont help against sheer numbers anymore. Castles? See thee above.
Though the answer was something that she did not quite expect "Magic of course. Nobles have magic!" it isn't something that she wouldn't have considered either.
"And commoners don't?" She had seen plenty a common mage. She had in fact seen less noble mages than she did commoners who are mages. She herself is a commoner after all, though not due to lack of trying from the nobility to have her marry into their ranks. Or even taking her as a mistress.
"Of course not that's why they are commoners, nobility comes from magic just as magic comes from nobility. From what barbaric backwater country did you come from that you don't even know such basics." That has to be one of the most beautiful examples of circle logic Raskreia has ever heard of.
At this point she was getting quite annoyed at her condescending attitude. So she was going to be playing along with her childish act and top her twice over. "I was born and raised in the village of Anaa in the forests of Moonlight Valley, located in the south of Varisia a country formerly part of the Chelaxian Empire on the continent of Avistan in the north the world of Golarion just south of the crown of the world and north of Garund. Does that answer your question?"
She seems speechless for a moment.
'I summoned a lunatic, she believes she is from some other world. What nonsense there is no other worlds.' Was all that Louise could think at the moment.
"There is no such thing as other worlds and you should know better than to suggest otherwise" She replied in a matter of fact tone. 'As a master its my duty to educate my familiar after all.'
"There is most certainly more than one world, heck I can name more than five out of the top of my head." The several planets of Golarion's solar system came to mind. She had also heard that the infamous hag Baba Yaga came from a distant world. And this all was not even getting into different planes of existence.
"Stop spouting nonsense you are probably just from Rub'ahn kali south from the elven lands!"
A certain part of that sentence made Raskreia a slight bit giddy.
"There are elves in this world as well? I will have to go visit them in the near future, id like to see how they live here." And it is true, she has a slight fascination for the different lifestyles of her semi-kin. Even the drow, though that is more akin to the kind of fascination that makes one unable to look away from a scene of carnage. Terrible, but fascinating.
At this Louise's eyes widened in horror "What? Are you mad do you want to get yourself killed?"
"Why is the road there dangerous? Trust me I can take care of myself" She honestly did not see why she was getting so worked up about. Unless there was some kind of war going on.
"The problem is not the road there its the elves themselves. A human doesn't stand a chance against an elf much less a commoner" Now that rose Raskreia's interest.
"What's with the elves? Are they drow?" She could understand the reaction if it was them, they are not really know to be good hosts to visitors.
"Drow?"
Damn humans and them not learning the proper terms for the different races "Dark elves." Was her curt answer.
"There is such a thing as dark elves?" She may or may not have said that with a little bit of fear in my voice
"Well I assume the elves that you are talking about are drow as you have stated they are dangerous, do they have dark blue skin?"
This confused me even more "No they have the same colour skin as humans do the only difference they have to humans in appearance is their long ears." said describing what she has read about elves "They are the most ancient enemy of humanity defeated by founder Brimir over six thousand years ago, they use ancient magics and are said to make pacts with demons and their heathen gods"
At this Rask goes into what seems to be contemplation "They do sound different elves that I am used to. You see where I come from most elves are on good, or at least neutral, terms with humans with the exception of most drow."
Raskreia grinned then, oh how she wished she had her usual dragon-like teeth, and said "I should know, I am an elf from my world after all" as she said that, she changed her disguise to that of herself before she had awoken her draconic heritage.
And the reaction she got from Louise was the best thing ever, at least since Zarhon decided it was a brilliant idea to go outside during a tornado. Admittedly this was only fun several years later and in front of a cozy hearth.
Louise practically vaulted onto her bed putting her pillow between herself and Raskreia as an improvised shield dropping her wand in the process. She couldn't help but giggle at the display. Had she a malicious streak she would have pointed out how little a pillow would help in protecting her.
"E-e-el-elf!" she stammers out pointing at Raskreia.
Still chuckling a bit she said "Yes I'm an elf, yet not really technically I'm only one fourth elf. I'm an aasimar you see."
"A-aasimar" she seems to have calmed down a bit knowing the fact that I'm not a full elf, good thing she doesn't know I'm mostly dragon and part deity. Though the latter of those is inactive and inaccessible for now. Not that she was in any rush to gain access to that part of her heritage. It waited this long, it could wait for a few more centuries.
"What is that? I have never heard of such a race" Louise's voice got Raskreia out of her inner reverie.
She clears her throat, pulling over a chair in the process to sit down on "We are not really a race as such. Aasimar can be of many different races, we are basically people with a tiny bit of celestial blood in us." What she didn't say was that she only qualified as an aasimar due to most of her celestial blood being sealed, leaving her draconic side to reign dominant.
Louise's eyes widen at this tidbit of information however. "Celestial? As in angels? You are an angle?!"
She shook her head, trying to come up with a suitable explanation. "No I'm not an angle aasimar are not celestials themselves. They are descendants of them. Or their ancestors had been in contact with them at one point or another." Which is true. Just that her contact was a little more direct than is usual.
"So you really are not an elf?" She seems to relax a bit.
"Well I like to identify myself as an elf, but no I'm not an elf I'm an aasimar." And she did, she lived two thirds of her current life, in the assumption she was an elf after all.
"Is there anything else I should know about you that you are not telling me right now?" the question was probably meant as a joke but at that point she, for the first time noticed something.
The mark branded on her hand was actually trying to influence her mind. I wouldn't get passed her 'Mind blank' any time soon, but she thought it felt like what a 'Charm Person' feels like. Or perhaps a 'Suggestion'.
Oh, right she didn't answer yet. "Well there is one thing." she said sheepishly.
"Well then out with it" Louise said impatiently.
"Well I may or may not be a sorceress" and if Raskreia judged her correctly there will be a reaction in one, two, three-
She starts mumbling at this "Great Louise, not only do you summon an elf, but a noble elf as well"
'Well, it is a reaction.' Rask thought amusedly.
"I'm not a noble." I say to interrupt her mumbling, which worked considering she instantly stops.
"But you said you are a mage just now, those two statements are contradictions. You cannot have magic without being a noble."
'Aaaand back to the circle logic we go.' "Maybe here that is the case but where I come from only the smallest number of magic users actually posses nobility, most mages and the like in my home care very little about politics, me included"
"How does that even work? Who protects the commoners without nobles to watch over them." The confusion was evident in the girls voice, and Raskreia understood why on some level. She was after all breaking down parts of her world view.
However this was a world view she would be all too happy to demolish. "You really should not underestimate people without magic Louise, they can be just as dangerous as with it."
"Nonsense, a commoner could never defeat a mage." Her tone was final, and invited no arguments.
And just like an uninvited relative it came anyway. Invitation or not. "And that's where you are wrong. I have seen people without an ounce of magic fight down against the greatest of odds. Also there is a fair number of fighters where I come form that specialize in taking down mages. And trust me when I tell you they are good at what they are doing."
"How could people with no magic stand against a mage?"
Quite a few reasons came to Raskreia's mind. An antimagic or dead magic zone, Spell resistance or outright immunity to some spells, sheer unwavering grit.
All of those were options, however she chose the most obvious she could think of "Its quite hard to concentrate on spells when there is a very angry person trying to stick pointy things right into your face, but we got distracted, yes I'm a sorcerer mostly an evocation sorcerer."
"Evocation?" Louise says cocking her head to the side.
"Didn't you say you are in your second year at this magic academy? How do you not know what evocation is, its usually one of the first schools of magic they teach." Light was after all one of the safest cantrips to start learning with. At worst you blinded yourself for a bit if you failed.
"Schools of magic? There is only the five elements of magic!" She states in a matter of fact type of tone.
"Hmm your magic sounds allot like elementalist magic but five elements? Can you tell me a bit more about your magic?" Raskreia couldn't for the life of her think of a magic system that used five elements. Four or six, sure. But five?
She puffs out her rather flat chest at this and raises a finger into the air. "You see there is five types of magic: fire, water, earth, wind and the lost element of void. People who can control one element are called dot mages, if they can control two elements they are line mages, three is triangle and four is square." She states, and seems rather proud of having been able to recite this as well as she did. Or for educating someone who didn't know the most basic of basic things. Raskreia would go with the former.
"Well it does seem like our magic has quite allot of difference" she stated, wishing she had her tail out. When she was intrigued by something it automatically swayed from side to side. Now that she altered herself all it did was make her feel phantom discomfort, at the immobility of a currently non existent appendage.
"My magic system is divided into eight schools of magic." 'Nine, if one counted universal. But that's just a technicality.'
"EIGHT?!" she exclaimed rather loudly in disbelief.
"Yes eight, they are: Alteration, abjuration, divination, illusion, evocation, necromancy and transmutation."
"I know of transmutation and illusion magic we have that to, they are part of earth magic and wind magic respectively." Oh that sounds interesting "Really now? I will have to read up on your system of magic once I get the time. But I'm not done describing my magic"
"There is more?" she states seemingly shocked. Raskreia had to stifle a giggle, there were so many subsets of magic that it would take hours to thoroughly explain every single one. And that is just the ones she is aware of.
"Oh that's just the basics. Aside from the schools of magic the individual schools are divided into sub-schools but lets not dive into that right now." The only thing she receives is a nod of agreement. She seems to be listening very intently to what Rask is saying.
"Well then, schools and sub schools out of the way that leaves us with circles of magic. Where your magic is ranked in four points my magic is ranked into nine circles, well technically eleven but the last two are not really counted as circles by most people." Catrips are often forgotten, and many don't even know about epic spells after all.
"So what you are saying is that people who can cast spells of this so called 9th circle are to you what are to me square class mages?"
"Basically yes, tough I do not know what your magic is capable of so I cant be too certain. You see there is a huge difference between being able to cast 8th and 9th level spells. 9th level spells can get quite scary."
"And the other two 'circles' ?" She asked with typical childish curiosity.
"Ah those. First we have cantrip's minor magic tricks" I say making a small spray of spars using "Spark" "Also known as spells of the 0th circle. You aren't even considered a mage yet at the point when you learn these"
At this point Rask her undivided attention, forgotten is the fact that she is an elf in her eyes. "And the other one?"
"That would be epic spells" she does not continue at this point which apparently doesn't sit very well with Louise.
"Epic spells? Surely you must know more about them than just that they exist, there must be something that makes them deserve the name."
Raskreia let out a sigh, she said a bit to much now there is no other way than to go through what epic spells are. Many people get blinded by the prospect of power those spells offer, and die in the pursuit of attaining knowledge that they are not yet ready for. "Epic spells are spells that transcend the normal circles of magic. Barely anyone short of gods an- " Louise interrupts her at this point.
"There is only one god!" she snapped at the woman. 'So far I have been listening to her strange attics, but claiming the existence of other gods goes too far.'
"Is there now? Where I come from we have many, this god must be quite lucky to have a monopoly over an entire world, what is his name?"
"I don't care for your heathen gods the only god is Founder Brimir" This caused Raskreia to scowl in contemplation and a bit of annoyance.
'Great, seems this place discriminates against other religions.' Raskreia thought.
"Never heard of him. What domains does he have?" Is what she said out loud.
"Domains?" what is she on about now "He owns all the land in this world, he is god after all" What a weird question.
And all she does, is giggles at the answer. 'By Brimir if my wand wasn't right next to her I would have blasted her for her heresy long ago.'
"No silly. I mean what four godly domains does he represent. Such as good and evil. Law or chaos. Ah what ever its not important. I don't really care what god or gods people worship as long as its not one of the ones commonly accepted as evil. And even then some have redeemable qualities." And that was true. For example if one needed a competent lawyer, one could count on a cleric of Asmodeus to work wonders with the laws at hand.
Louise didn't like this, no she didn't like it at all. But it was getting late and she was getting tired. So instead of letting this end in an argument, that would just keep her away from bed longer, she instead chose to go to bed and solve this at a later time.
'She seems to have gotten to terms with what I have just told her, that was easier than I expected.' Is what the dragoness in disguise thought to herself.
As she was about to prepare her bedroll to sleep she was suddenly covered in a multitude of clothes.
Before she could even question what is going on Louise already stood in front of her imperiously in her night gown "Go wash these familiar and I want them ready by morning"
Now normally she would have either cleaned them with 'Prestidigitation' or outright refused. But she can use this as an excuse to explore the castle a bit, knowing your surroundings is always a good idea. As such my response is "Sure, what ever."
As such she left the room with a basket full of laundry. 'I'm also pretty sure I'm forgetting something important. At least she forgot to push the topic of epic tier spells.' She thought as she headed into the night in search of something interesting.
After all, if she will probably just magic the clothes clean, so a place to clean them is not a priority.
