Chapter 33
This Bitch
Kelsey
"Uh, guys? We have a problem." For once in their lives, Bella and Edward do the smart thing and listen. Edward shoves Bella back against the cliff face, dropping into his fighting stance as Victoria emerges from behind a tree. Riley, a blond vampire is right behind her. Oh shit.
Riley's eyes lock on me. I move slowly, very slowly, so imposssibly slowly, easing my hand back to my pack. To the lighter in the side pocket.
Edward managed to get riley's attention off of me, which is good. The problem is that he's currently pleading with the blond vampire to not kill us, which is not so good. The reason I say this is because the more Edward talks, the madder Riley is getting. And Victoria has a fierce glint in her eye. We aren't making it out of this alive. Fuck.
I quickly flick my gaze over to my sister. She's managed to grab a rock and is holding it above her uninjured arm, as if she's gonna pierce herself with it. Knowing Bella, that's exactly her plan.
I finally wrap my fingers around the lighter, slowly and carefully extracating it from my pack. Miraculously, neither Victoria nor her little sidekick have noticed me. I grip the lighter tight in my fist, placing my thumb against the lid, ready to pop it off and start a bonfire at a moment's notice. I will not die this way. I will not.
I move slowly, as quietly as possible, and only when the two enemy vampires are distracted with Bella and Edward. I stick close to the ground and crab walk a couple steps to the left. I keep going until I'm several yards back from Victoria. And I can see Seth out of the side of my eye. He's staying low, waiting to see how this shit show will end. Smart move.
I carefully shift my grip on the lighter, allowing Seth a glimpse of it. He moves his shaggy head in a nod. Okay, so we have a lighter, a werewolf, and a vampire. And a diabetic. This seems like the start of a bad joke. You know, "A vampire, a werewolf and a diabetic walk into a bar..."
It's during my musings that the wind changes, and Victoria whirls around. Her red eyes narrow in on me, and she starts forward, licking her lips. Oh hell to the fucking no.
I flick the lighter, creating a flame. Surprisingly, it's enough to draw Victoria up short. I guess she figured that even if she did get the lighter out of my hand, it would still start a fire. Seems she's unwilling to take that risk.
One good thing does come out of Victoria's sudden fixation with the diabetic; she turned her back on Edward and Seth, allowing them to close ranks. Victoria and her side kick are currently debating whether to kill me or change me into a vampire. Seems evil sidekick has decided I'm his mate. Yeah, no, bitch.
It's a cliche, the two villains arguing and giving the heroes enough time to tackle them. It's a cliche I'm very grateful for right now, though. Although calling Edward a hero leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Edward launches himself forward, wrapping his arms around Victoria's neck. Seth hurls himself into the fight at the same time, taking out evil sidekiak. I start the fire, and gradually, various vampire body parts fall into the flames. I'm the one to light Evil Sidekick's head on fire. Yeah, bitch, I am so not your mate.
The fight's over in about five minutes. When I look around, I see Bella, still holding the rock tightly above her wrist. If I had to guess, I'd say she's putting enough pressure on the brace she's wearing to break it.
Edward eventually talks her into putting the rock down. I was right; one of the supports on Bella's brace snaps. Oh well, not my problem.
"Nice shot." Edward tells Seth, who'd fazed back to human form.
"Thanks. You good, Kelsey?"
"Yeah."
Edward climbs down the mountain first with Bella in his arms. Seth and I clean up together before he fazes back to wolf form and lets me ride on his back. It seems to me that the trip back down the mountain takes even longer than the trip up it; although that might be because I'm worried about the pack. If any one of them were hurt...
The clearing finally comes into sight. I flick my gaze around, counting heads. It looks like everyone but Jacob is accounted for. No loss there.
As soon as Seth enters into the clearing, Paul rushes over and lifts me into his arms, pressing his lips to mine. I press mine more tightly against his, rellishing in the fact that we are both alive. Paul lowers me back to my feet, keeping his arms tiently around me.
"Hey. Hey, sweetheart." he brushes away the tears I hadn't realized were falling down my face. "It's okay. We're okay." He pulls me in against him, rubbing my back until I've stopped crying.
"Are you okay?" I pull back from the embrace, quickly looking him over. My heart lurches when I see the cut on his cheek. I know the wolves aren't above getting hurt, but seeing it is something completely different. "Oh my gosh, you're bleeding!"
"Only a little." He brings my hand down from his cut, stopping to kiss my knuckles. "I'll be fine in a minute. It won't even scar."
That doesn't help very much. I'm still slightly panicked, my heart racing. I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself. Paul starts rubbing my back again, giving me time to compose myself. The moment is ruined by my insulin pump. Sighing, I force myself to step back enough to look at the device.
"Are you okayv" Paul asks, rubbing my shoulder.
"My blood sugar was high. The bolus just finished delivering." Paul nods and pulls me back into his emprace.
"Get a room you two." Quil yells.
"Shut up, Quil!" Paul responds, flipping him the bird. I smirk slightly to myself; that's Paul for you. "How was everything up there?" He directs the question to Seth, who's leaning up against a tree, watching the reunions.
"Insane. I went up early and just in time to watch Kelsey and Bella go at it. Those two can fight."
"What about?" Jacob leans in, no doubt ready to defend Bella's latest stupid action. When the fuck will he realize she doesn't like him?
"None of your damn business." Paul snaps, rolling his eyes. I agree with the sentiment, but oh well.
"It's okay. We were arguing about how Bella emotionally manipulates everyone. Bitch thinks she's the best thing since fucking sliced bread." I say, partially because I know Jacob will give me the whole "Bella is brainwashed" speech I practically have memorized at this point. Partly just because I wanna piss him off.
"Hey. Bella's not manipulating anyone." Jacob yells. "Stop talking about her like that." He looks like he's about to wolf out on me. Paul must see it too because he tightens his hold on me a little bit.
"Jacob, go somewhere to faze." Sam orders. The look Jacob flashes me is absolutely pathetic as far as death glares go. He then marches off into the trees to faze, no doubt thinking he won this bout.
"Yeah." Seth continues, pretending that whole situation hadn't just happened. "And then that bitch Victoria shows up, and Bella decides to go on a self sacrificing kick, and damn near cut her arm open. The only reason she didn't is because Victoria got a whiff of Kelsey's high blood sugar."
"What?" Paul yells, his whole body beginning to shake.
"Paul, it's okay. Calm down." I say, turning to face him. "She's dead. It's over."
The next thing I know, Sam and Seth have grabbed me and dragged me back several feet, moving at pure inhuman speed. And then Paul hulks out. Holy fucking shit.
A/n: Hey guys. So I know I promised this over two months ago. I'm so sorry. Good news, though. I'm almost done with school. I just have to take one more final, and I'll be good. So yeah, there's that. In regards to the chapter, I think one of my biggest weaknesses in writing is fight scenes. I can never do them right. What do you guys think? If I get to 124 reviews by next Wednesday, I'll upload the next chapter then. That should give me the chance to write and edit a few more chapters. Anyways, I hope you like this chapter. Later!
Lauren.
