Rin twisted the dial of the microscope, the sample coming into focus. "I see it!"

Jinenji leaned over her shoulder, checking the view, then nodded in agreement. "What do you notice?"

She looked again, face scrunching up as she studied the two images. "The cells of one are moving faster than the other." Searching her brain, she tried to remember the significance of that fact, eyes suddenly widening. "One's living in a polluted area!"

"Very good, Rin. You're a fast learner."

She leaned back, her back brushing against his chest, and grinned up at him. "That's because I have you as a teacher." Her grin widened as he flushed.

"I'm sure you would do just as well with the other teachers."

Rin shook her head. "No one's as patient with me as you are. I don't feel like I'm being put on the spot or hounded for information. Or hit on." She knew she was pushing her luck, but she secretly enjoyed getting under his skin.

Jinenji pretended to recheck her samples, the yellow pencil behind his ear hitting one of the scopes and falling to the floor. "Does that happen often?" he asked, reaching down to retrieve it.

"A little. But not from anyone who matters," she said, spinning around in her chair.

"You have someone in mind?" He tried to school his features, but Rin could see the worry lined in his face and leaned closer, kissing the underside of his jaw.

"Maybe."

Flustered, he dropped his pencil again, accidentally kicking it under the next table, mumbling to himself as Rin stifled her laughter.

Maybe she'd tell him tomorrow.
