Music played from a nearby radio as Genji, wearing a pair of swimming trunks, was relaxing in the hot tub on his balcony, a pair of sunglasses on his face and a glass of his favorite whisky in hand.
"Ah, the Fire Nation spa..." he said as he let the hot bubbling water relax his skin, "Come on Republic City, try something new..."
"You're listening to 'The Music Hour'! Brought to you by Cabbage Corp, Republic City's trusted name in technology for over fifty years." but the radio begins to broadcast static and changes to Amon's speech as he interrupts the program.
"Good morning, citizens of Republic City. This is Amon. I hope you all enjoyed last night's pro-bending match, because it will be the last." the voice of Amon said as Genji lowered his glasses as he turned his attention to it, "It's time for this city to stop worshiping bending athletes as if they were heroes. I am calling on the council to shut down the bending arena and cancel the finals, or else there will be severe consequences."
Static returns and the radio is silent.
"Curious." Genji said, pushing his glasses back on as he got out of the hot tube, "Seems as any good excuse to visit City Hall."
A few moments later, the Shashou walked towards the Council chamber in City Hall wearing his usual outfit. Standing before the large double doors made of fine wood, he kicked it open before striding in like he owned the place.
"Boom baby!" Genji said to see that the Fire Ferrets where already there along with the council.
"Genji, you shouldn't be here!" Tenzin said immediately upon the interruption, "None of you should. This is a closed meeting."
"At ease Tenzin, I helped build this city. I still have a stake in City Hall, so I can be anywhere I like. Can't say I like what you have done with the place." Genji said as he removed the sunglasses and folded them into his inside pocket as he looked around with a slight frown, "Just my two yuen, I say you can't cancel the finals. Compared to your two yuen, my two yuen is worth at least ten yuen."
"See!" Korra said gesturing to Genji as he comes walking up to them, "The Shashou agrees with us!"
"Not sure if that's a good thing." Mako muttered with an aside glance.
"I know winning the championship means a lot to you." Tenzin said diplomatically, "But as far as I'm concerned, we need to shut the arena down."
"What about the rest of you?" Korra said before turning to the Southern Water Tribe representative, "Tarrlok, there's no way you're backing down from Amon, right?"
"Actually." Tarrlok said as he stood up, "Tenzin and I agree for once."
"The what!?" Genji muttered with wide eyes of surprise, "Tenzin and Tarrlok agree on something!... Just like that fortuneteller told me. Next she said a grumpy silver vixen would agree with me."
"While I am still committed to bringing that lunatic to justice." Tarrlok said, "I will not put innocent lives at stake just so you and your friends can play a game."
"Pro-bending might only be a game to you, but think of what it means to the city!" Mako said, "Right now the arena is the one place where benders and non-benders gather together... in-in peace!"
"Well the other place, like in my night club. Though the alcohol helps." Genji said offhandedly, "If you close the arena, you let Amon win! Are you seriously the guys who willingly will take an L? "
"Yes, exactly what he said!" Bolin said excited, "Yes!"
"I'm sorry, but our decision has been made." Tarrlok said as he picks up the gavel, "This meeting is adjourned." but a metal cable knocks off the gavel head and Tarrlok gasps.
Everyone turns to look toward the entrance of the courtroom as Ichiro and Lin Beifong enters. The cable connected to her armor coils back as the chief of police looks at the council.
"I can't believe I'm saying this." Lin said, looking as if it pained her to say it, "But I agree with the Shashou."
"Oh... I really need to pay attention to that fortuneteller..." Genji said surprised before turning tot he silver vixen, "I still fucked your mom."
"So you said." Lin said irritated.
"Mr. Chirayus, that's highly inappropriate." Tenzin said offended at his casual remark.
"I also fucked your mom." Genji said smugly, "Who's mom haven't I slept with!?"
"Genji, this has nothing to do with you and who you slept with!" Mako interrupted him.
"That's impossible!" Genji shouted.
"I expected this kind of cut-and-run response from Tenzin." Lin said as she turned to address the council, "But the rest of you? Come on, show a little more backbone. It's time that the benders of this city displayed some strength and unity against these Equalists."
"Finally!" Genji shouted, agreeing with the daughter of his ex-girlfriend, "Someone else says what I'm thinking other than me!"
"If you keep the arena open, my metalbenders and I will provide extra security during the championship match." Lin said sternly, "There's no better force to deal with the chi blockers. Our armor is impervious to their attacks."
"Are you saying that you will personally take responsibility for the safety of the spectators in the arena?" Tarrlok said as Tenzin looks at him with a mixture of anger and suspicion.
"I guarantee it." Lin said determent.
"It is hard to argue with Chief Beifong's track record." Tarrlok said as he turns to the council, "If she is confident her elite officers can protect the arena, then she has my support. I am changing my vote. Who else is with me?" the other three council members raise their hands as Tenzin turns away in disappointment.
In the corridor outside the council room, where Tenzin had pulled Lin to the side for a talk with Ichiro standing next to her.
"...Tarrlok's playing you." Tenzin said with a deep concern for his old friend, "And I don't want to see you get hurt."
"I know what I am doing." Lin said coldly, "And the risks that come with it."
"In that case, I'm going to be by your side during the match." Tenzin said immediately, "It's for Korra. I want to make sure she's safe."
"Do what you want!" Lin said as she throws her hands up in the air in annoyance, "It's not like I've ever been able to stop you before. Come Ichiro."
It was just then that Korra comes walking up to them, "Excuse me, Chief Beifong. I wanted to thank you for your help..." she said but she is completely ignored by the chief.
"I'm sorry about her..." Ichiro said to Korra as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment.
"What is her deal?" Korra said, "Even when she's on my side, she's against me!"
"I have no idea." Ichiro said with a shrug, "That's just the chief."
"I've known Lin since we were children, she's always been..." Tenzin said, making a pause to find the right word, "Challenging."
"Who's challenged?" Genji said casually as he came walking up with a flask in his hand, "So Tenzin, my boy. What did Aang do to make the child of Toph and an Asshat hate the Avatar so much?"
"Shouldn't you know that?" Ichiro said.
"Was buried for fifty years. Tenzin was just a baby back then..." Genji said taking a swing from his flask before suddenly getting wide eyes, "Oh spirits, I just realize that I held him in my arms as a baby."
"My father and Lin got along famously." Tenzin said as he turns his head away, "I'm afraid her issues... are with me."
"Wait a second..." Korra said as she smiles knowingly, "It all makes sense now! You and Beifong, Beifong and you. You two were a couple!"
"What!" Tenzin said shocked, he nervously glances around to see if anyone else is around, "Where'd you get that idea?"
"Your wife." Korra said with a prideful smirk.
At this the group of them where startled when Genji suddenly yelled, "Oh, shit! Oh, shit!" before breaking down in hysterical laughter, "Oh shit! That is not happening right now! No!"
He walked towards the door of the council room still laugh, opening it and he peaked around the door to yell, "Hey! Hey everyone! Tarrlok and his council bitches! Tenzin fucked the police chief! This is the best thing ever! " he returned to the group, as he sang, "Tenzin fucked Toph's daughter! Tenzin fucked Toph's daughter! Shit! Fuck!"
He had thrown an arm around Ichiro to keep himself off the ground as he broke down in laughter again.
"So... Pema stole you from the chief." Ichiro said over the hysterical laughter of Genji, "To be honest, I'm very surprised the chief didn't throw her in jail."
"Oh, she tried." Tenzin said as Genji began to laugh louder, "Anyway, Pema didn't steal me, Lin and I had been growing apart for some time. We both had different goals in live... Why am I even telling you this? It all happened a long time ago and we've moved passed it and are you done laughing already!"
"I'm so not!" Genji said wiping the tears from his eyes, "And neither is is she. Beifong obviously is holding a grudge. Very much like her mom."
"What do you..." Tenzin stammers in confusion, "Of course she has! Anyway, this is none of your business!" he walks away quickly in annoyance and anger.
"See you at home, Mr. Heartbreaker!" Korra said waving teasingly Tenzin hangs his head in embarrassment as he walks away. With a grin, she turns around to notice a thoughtful expression on Ichiro's face.
"Ichiro, you okay?" she said with concern.
"Yeah, just found evidence for a theory I have been thinking about for a while now." Ichiro said as he pushed Genji off of him, "The chief will be waiting for me, good luck tonight, Korra." he nodded towards her before walking away leaving Korra and the still laughing Genji behind.
"Don't you think its weird that the chief is always accompanied by our detective?" Genji said when he finally stopped laughing, "That can only mean two things."
"What do you mean?" Korra said.
"Well either he is fucking the chief, would explain why he has such a high position while still being very young." Genji said opening his flask again, "I hope it isn't scenario two, because then he would be related to the biggest Asshat I know. And I just started to like the detective." before taking another swing.
"...Genji." Korra said but she had to wait as Genji continued to drink and holding up a finger to tell her to wait a minute, "Are you drunk?"
"From the ten drinks I had with breakfast?" Genji said when he was finally done before laughing, "Who could get drunk from that."
Nighttime approaches where the Pro-bending Arena is surrounded by the ships of the metalbenders, as officers are scouring the inside and outside of the building, looking for some undefined objects. Ichiro comes out of the arena, walking towards Lin who was standing with her back to him as she seemed to be talking with Tenzin.
"Everything's clear chief." Ichiro said before greeting Tenzin.
"As you can see." Lin said quickly and bluntly, "Everything is going fine."
"They've checked underneath the stands?" Tenzin said concerned, "And you have enough officers to cover all points of entry?"
"I have the skies, the bay, and every nook and cranny of this place covered." Lin said bluntly, "Now leave me alone and let me do my job."
"Lin, with so much on the line it would be nice if we could help each other out." Tenzin said, a little sadden, "At least for one night."
"Like old times?" Lin said, her expression softening
"Like old times." Tenzin said.
Ichiro just looked confused an amazed between the two as the chief said with a much less harsh tone, "Okay, I'll try to be less abrasive than usual."
"I would appreciate that." Tenzin said with a small smile.
"How did you..." Ichiro said perplexed how Tenzin seemed to soften Lin a bit, "Master Tenzin, teach me your ways!"
"I sooner have you date the Avatar then start learning from Tenzin." Lin said suddenly turning stern, "Not get back to work detective."
"...Yes chief." Ichiro said, hanging his head low as he walked back inside to do his duties.
"That was a... weird reaction." Tenzin said as he watched the young detective walk away.
"He's my best detective." Lin told him bluntly, "I will not have him sit in some temple meditation the entire day."
Later that evening, Genji walked into the V.I.P. box where he spotted Asami and her father where already seated. He had preformed a small drop off before coming here as he took the free seat right next to Asami.
"Hello, Genji." Asami said happily when she saw him.
"Hey Asami." he said crossing his legs so his knee met his ankle, "Happy you didn't ruin my shirt this time."
"Again sorry about that." Asami said with a small laugh, "So who do you think will win?"
"The Wolfbats." Genji said simply.
"Oh, dare to put a bet on it?" Asami said.
"Gambling, now that's more like it!" Genji said with a happy smirk, his arms behind his head, "What do you want to wager?"
"If the Fire Ferrets win..." Asami said as she began to think.
"Which they won't." Genji said once again rather bluntly, "But go ahead."
"I would like some training sessions from a Shashou." Asami said having a confident smirk on her face, "And who better than the legendary Immortal Dragon?"
"I guess I could do that." Genji said tapping his chin, "And when I win... I guess having a me owed a favor to one of the wealthiest people in town sounds pretty good."
"It's a deal." Asami said, shaking hands with him.
Genji's food arrived with a set of chopsticks as the lights went out.
The ring announcer comes up to the stage, light beaming down on him as the spectators cheer.
"Introducing the challengers, the Future Industries Fire Ferrets!", the Ring announcer said.
When they reach the arena, Bolin signals to Pabu, who jumps down and does his trick by moving around on his front paws before doing some backflips while Bolin uses an earth disk, removing the center for Pabu to backflip through and back, ending the performance with one paw standing.
"And their opponents, the three timed defending champions, the White Falls Wolfbats!" Ring announcer said.
Bat-masked Wolfbats with purple capes howl and spread their wing capes while fireworks go off all around the arena.
Once the bell rings, the Wolfbats instantly move toward their opponents and Tahno attempts an uppercut on Korra with his waterbending fist. Korra moves back to barely dodge it and backflips, only to be hit by a waterbending blast from him.
It immediately becomes apparent that the Wolfbats are not interested in playing by the rules. Tahno displays an obvious 'hosing foul' against Bolin, but it is not called by the refs. Capitalizing on this, the Wolfbats trip up Bolin by earthbending a disc under his feet and outside their zone which is again ignored by the referees.
"Oh come on, refs!" Tenzin said angrily, "There was some funny business in that last play!"
"Wouldn't have guessed you knew the rules of pro-bending?" Lin said amused.
"I've been brushing up." Tenzin said before clearing his throat, "That Wolfbat blatantly bent a disk outside of his zone."
After a fierce round two with some illegal ice moves and fire shot to the head by the Wolfbats, the round ends in a tie. The Fire Ferrets win the coin toss and Korra immediately decides that it would be a water against water battle.
He evades her seemingly lackluster blast, but the Avatar delivers another one with her foot, striking Tahno in the chin. The impact is so strong that Tahno's helmet is sent flying into the audience and caught by some Fire Ferrets fans, and he is knocked off the platform.
"I can't believe your sweet-tempered father was reincarnated into that girl." Lin said impressed, "She's tough as nails."
Ichiro walked up to them after his patrol as Tenzin said, "Reminds me of someone else I knew at that age."
"Does she know?" Ichiro said amused, "You know chief, you two might get along if you would only give her a chance."
"How would you know that?" Lin said to her main detective.
"Seems you haven't been reading the newspapers lately, Lin." Tenzin said, "Korra has been spending a lot of time with our detective here."
"Great... Now I have to come to the office tomorrow." Ichiro said annoyed, "Thanks Tenzin."
After taking the round, the Fire Ferrets regain some hope to win the finals. The teams are more or less matched, but Ming tips the scales in the favor of the Wolfbats when he scatters an earth disk and Tahno sends three water blasts containing pieces of rocks at the Fire Ferrets, knocking them off the ring and into the water.
Although there would be no way that the knock out would be called legitimate, the referee pronounces the Wolfbats as the winners and the champions for the fourth time, provoking equal applause and heckling.
"Oh, come on!" Tenzin said furiously while waving his hands, "Those were illegal head shots! Open your eyes, ref!"
It was as if time slowed down, Ichiro spotted a male spectator putting on an Equalist mask. Another reached in a box of popcorn to grab an electrical glove from within. Tenzin expresses his outrage over the match as Lin pushes Tenzin out of the way, only for the Equelist behind them to grab her shoulder and electrocutes her, knocking her unconscious.
Ichiro decks him with a face full of fist, knocking him out. Tenzin airbends at another Equalist but is also electrocuted by a female Equalist behind him.
Grabbing for him, Ichiro reversed the grab throwing her over his shoulder down the stands. He looked around the crowd to see electricity light up as one by one his collogues were taken out as spectators are screaming in fear.
Asami looked around as she, her father and Genji were being held up by three of the Equalists. The Shashou looked around and into the arena to see Amon and a group of Equalists rise from the ring's center platform.
"Don't think about doing anything crazy freak." the Equalists said holding his glove close to Genji.
But without a word Genji flipped over his chopstick, jamming it into the Equalists eye, blood spilling out as he screamed in pain. Jumping up to evade an attack, he retrieved the chopstick from his eye.
Genji dodges the third Equalists's attack, jabbing the chopstick hard enough against his throat to pierce it through. Blood filled his throat as Genji evade the last Equalists, grabbing her arm, breaking it over his knee as he forced her arm back to electrocute herself into unconsciousness.
"Everyone okay?" Genji said looking around the booth.
"Yeah... Yeah we are fine." Asami said, slightly taken back by how fast and remorseless Genji had managed to kill two people and dispatch the other one.
"I heard tales about Shashou..." Hiroshi said with shock, "But they do not live up to the real thing."
"Yeah, I know. I'm awesome." Genji said fixing his sleeves, "It's best you two stay here. Things are about to get messy. Especially when I get my sword."
"You got your weapon?" Hiroshi said, surprised he could get it passed security.
"Of course." Genji said as if it was obvious, "I always keep Yamato close at hand and I never leave home without her."
"Does that mean..." Hiroshi said concerned, "Your back in action?"
"Don't know yet." Genji said bending down to retrieve the chopstick which was now covered in two types of blood, "Might need this."
Massive banners with the Equalist symbol were being unrolled as Amon had taken away the bending of the Woltbats.
"I believe I have your attention, benders of Republic City." Amon said, "So once again, the Wolfbats are your pro-bending champions. It seems fitting that you celebrate three bullies who cheated their way to victory because every day, you threaten and abuse your fellow non-bending citizens just like the Wolfbats did to their opponents tonight."
His Equalists dropped the three members of the Wolfbats into the watery pit below.
"Those men were supposedly the best in the bending world and yet it only took a few moments for me to cleanse them of their impurity. Let this be a warning to all of you benders out there: if any of you stand in my way, you will meet the same fate."
Spectators gasp in fear and shock as a group of Equalists sitting on their knees, rise from the ring's center platform. They dropped down dead as in the center stood Genji, his sword Yamato in hand.
"Shashou." Amon said with a growl.
"Asshole." Genji said mockingly, "You versus me. How about it?" twirling his blade as he gestured to himself and Amon with the thumb of his free hand.
An area of the glass dome was smashed apart and ropes with platforms on the end are lowered down through the new hole. Amon and the Equalists climb onto these platforms and are lifted out of the arena as explosives detonate. Genji lifts his arm to cover his face from the blast as the entire explosion shakes the arena and the crowd begins to scream in fear before charging forward.
Being freed from her chains, Korra runs off the platform, freezing the water in the pool. She jumps into the water, beginning to waterbend herself up in a massive water cyclone.
Above water, Korra erupts from beneath as she makes her way toward the hole in the roof. She is looking determined until she realizes she is not going to make it. She gets higher the water begins to lessen until eventually there is not enough for her to reach the ceiling.
But as she begins to fall with an outstretched hand toward the ceiling, Genji swung over having kicked one of the Equalists of his cable, catching her as they headed for the roof.
The duo landed on the roof, surrounded by Equalists as another cable shot up out of the hole and Lin Beifong shot out of it. The Lieutenant falls back to evade her cables as the police chief landed next to Genji and Korra.
"Now this brings back memories." Genji said with a smirk, reaching for his pocket, "Me, Twinkle Toes and a Beifong versus a group of assholes." he pulled out his flask.
"Seriously?" Lin said with disgust, "Your taking a drink now."
"Any time is a good time for a drink. Especially for my special cocktails." Genji said, downing it's contents in one go, dropping the flask on the glass roof, "Bury the light deep within. Cast aside, there's no coming home. We're burning chaos in the wind. Drifting in the ocean all alone."
He let out a slight growl as his pupils dilated into smaller slits. Black veins appeared over his face and arms that line his face and arms.
"Bring it." Genji said with a feral grin, looking even more inhuman than before as the trio engaged the group of Equalists.
Three Equalists rush toward Korra, who firebends at one to aid Lin, knocking him down. The downed Equalist rolls over and attempts to stand up but is sliced in half with a single strike from Genji.
Lin used her metalbending cables to strike a Equalist back but most of them seemed to be fleeing already and when she glanced over her shoulder to see why as the reason for it was fighting with the Lieutenant.
She remembered the stories her mother would tell her and her sister about the Shashou stheir mother had known so well. She always thought the stories she told about them, especially the once concerning Genji Chirayus the Immortal Dragon, how they were like a force of nature in a fight, where blow out of proportion.
But now when she saw him in action in person, slashing through the opposition like a hot knife through butter, moving so fast and furious, even if he was being enhanced by an Shashou Elixer, she realized that the stories she was told about him... Where greatly down played.
Flashes and sparks erupted from the Lieutenant's kali sticks as he attempted to block the attack from the enhanced Shashou.
Genji ducks under his wide swing, he retaliates by slashing his torso with his sword before punching him in the stomach with enough force to put a dent in a sheet of metal.
The Lieutenant is slammed roughly on the glass ground with a grunt of pain. Genji instantly twirls his sword around and prepares for quick cut across his throat. The Lieutenant's managed to block the strike with his kali stick but the one in his left hand was knocked out by the sheer force.
The Lieutenant jumps up, during which he switches his remaining kali stick to his left hand, and attempts to kick his head, but Genji ducks. He twists around his own axis to build up momentum and penetrated the Lieutenant stomach.
With a powerful front kick, Genji remove his sword as the bleeding Lieutenant is flung off the roof and tumbles down it toward the water below.
Using the roof access to get back into the stadium, Genji, Korra and Lin walk down the stairs to meet up with the others.
"You all right?" Lin said.
"I'm fine." Korra said, "Thanks."
"Don't mention it, kid." Lin said as they exit back into the main arena, looking up through the broken glass dome, "Looks like we lost this one."
"I don't know about that. They did saw Amon being challenged to a one-on-one and he just turned tail and run. Should give them something to think about." Genji said with a shrug, "I consider it a draw."
Fifth chapter which is a bit more action packed and a lot of comedy., hope you enjoyed.
