Hello there everybody and welcome to the next chapter of Avatar: Immortal Dragon.

BIRDOFHERMES: Yeah, I am currently working on a Witcher story so it had a big influence on this work. Shashou is Chinese for Killer, thought it was fitting and it looks a bit like Sashou the last name of the OC of my previous Avatar book.
girani4: This time it is not, there where actually hints about their relationship.
And now story time.
Outside of the Police Headquarters, a large crowd standing at the front with Saikhan at the podium, who was being initiated as the new Police Chief.
"It was an honor serving under Chief Beifong for so many years and I wish her a speedy recovery. It is with great humility that I take her place as the new Chief of Police." Saikhan said, "Republic City is facing a threat like none the world has ever seen but there is one man who's been effective against Amon's revolution, Councilman Tarrlok."
Tarrlok nods his head as reporters take his picture, "That is why for all matters involving the Equalists, I will report directly to him."
Ichiro let out a disgusted scoff getting a surprised look from Korra, who was standing next to him
"The police department will lend any and all available resources to the councilman and his task force." Saikhan said as he slams his fist down on the podium, "Until we quell this insurgency."
"Why didn't you get the job?" Korra said curiously.
"The official answer is that I'm too young and me being the best detective would waste my talent behind a desk." Ichiro said as he looked at Tarrlok with disdain, "Unofficially and the real reason, it's because I wouldn't bend over backwards for Tarrlok and his ego."
As the crowd disperses after the inauguration, Tarrlok gives the Fire Nation councilwoman a hands, who leaves with the other council members; he bows after them in their direction.
"Tarrlok, I don't know what you did to get Chief Saikhan in your pocket but I highly doubt it was legal." Tenzin said.
"Oh, Tenzin. Always the conspiracy theorist." Tarrlok said with mocking amusement, "Did you ever consider Saikhan simply recognizes my talents and wants what is best for this city?"
"I'm seriously doubting that." Ichiro said annoyed.
"Ah detective Ichiro. Your time will come." Tarrlok said before turning to the Avatar, "Well, Avatar Korra. Long time, no see. Now that your little pro-bending distractions are over, I look forward to you joining my task force."
"Forget it!" Korra said, "There's no way I'm joining your vanity project."
"That is unfortunate to hear." Tarrlok said regretfully, "But I'm sure you'll come to your senses as you have in the past."
"Don't hold your breath, bub." Korra said pointing at him, "You know, Tenzin's been right about you all along. You tried to play me, you played Beifong, and now you're playing the new Chief too. Well, I got news for you. You need me, but I don't need you. I'm the Avatar."
"You're not, in fact, the Avatar." Tarrlok said somewhat scornfully and mockingly, "You are merely a half-baked Avatar in training, which reminds me, how is your airbending going?"
Korra's face softens with surprise as Tarrlok continues, "Made any significant progress with that? I didn't think so."
"She is getting better everyday." Ichiro said suddenly, "How is your fight against Amon going? How many victories did you have against him? That's like what, zero?"
Tarrlok let out a angry scoff before turning and walking away.
It was in the afternoon at the club Genji owned, where the man himself was sitting in his privet booth. But unlike usual when he was drinking alone, he got company in the form of Asami Sato, who had come over to thank him for what he did during the raid at the Sato Mansion, or so she claimed.
"So how is life at the Air Temple?" Genji said, taking a sip from his drink, "Must be... Well not what your used to."
"I think it's really charming and the best part about it, nothing reminds me of my father." Asami said, emptying another glass, "If you don't mind me asking... What were your parents like?"
"I don't really remember much. My family and I lived on a small farm. We weren't rich, and none of us were benders. Then one day, we were attacked by bandits. My parents would have died if it wasn't for a Shashou that happened to pass by." Genji recounted as he looked into his half empty glass, "And for payment he took me and my brother."
"Your parents just gave you away?" Asami said shocked, "That's horrible."
"It wasn't unusual back then. People didn't had a lot of money and Shashou's don't work for free." Genji said with a shrug, "It's not so bad, as I said, don't remember much about them. Master Roshi and the other kids were more family to me than my own parents."
"Master Roshi?" she said, "He's the man who trained you?"
"Taught me everything I know. He was originally a Shashou of the Lion Turtle Qiyue Ren. He taught at the Kura-kura Tempat, before taking that same position down at Ryu Basho. He was already teaching there for decades when I arrived." Genji recounted with a smile when he thought of his old master, "I think you would get along with him, he would like you anyway." refilling their now empty glasses.
"Now let me ask you a question. What are you doing here?" Genji said as he lit a cigarette, "You could be doing literally anything else beside wasting your time with me."
"I... I just needed to take a break from it all." Asami admitted as leaned on the table and looked into her glass, "And this place, well the music is nice, the drinks are well priced and the company is good looking." she added that last part when she looked up.
"I could say the same." Genji said with a smile, before noticing something interesting at the bar.
Down at the bar, Ichiro had taken Korra there as a way to cheer her up. Sitting next to each other as the bartender poured them their rounds of drink.
"I don't understand what's wrong with me. I've memorized nearly all of the practice forms, but I still can't produce a single measly puff of air!" Korra said downing her drink in one go, slamming the glass down, "I'm a failure."
"No, you're not." Ichiro said with an understanding smile, "You're Korra."
"Well thanks detective." Korra said playfully, "Say... during the fight in Hiroshi's secret workshop, when Beifong got knocked out."
"Oh..." Ichiro said turning to his glass, "You heard that."
"So you called her mom." Korra said a bit nervous to ask, "Was that some slip of the tongue?"
"No." he said shaking his head, "Lin Beifong is my mother."
They suddenly heard a loud yell behind them, startling the two. Turning around they saw that it was Genji, standing behind them, who had overheard them and had yelled.
"Oh, shit! Oh, shit!" Genji shouted before breaking down in hysterical laughter, "Oh shit! This is not happening right now! No!"
He had thrown an arm around Ichiro to keep himself off the ground as he broke down in laughter, "Hey Twinkle Toes! Twinkle Toes! Do you realize, I bragged about fucking this guys grandma to his face! To this face!" he said pointing at the annoyed Ichiro's face.
"Are you done laughing you fucking hyenagator!?" Ichiro shouted.
"I'm so not!" Genji said wiping the tear out of his eye, "Come! Join me and Asami!"
"You and..." Korra said, looking over her shoulder to see Asami, who waved at her, "Genji and Asami, interesting combination."
"Of all the places we could run into you." Ichiro said annoyed as they sat down in Genji's privet booth, "At my favorite bar..."
"Why wouldn't you run into me here? I own the place." Genji said much to the horror of Ichiro, before turning to Korra, "So Twinkle Toes, what's eating your ass? Besides being on a date with this ass?"
"I... How am I?..." Korra said unsure of herself, "How am I suppose to save this city when I can't even learn..."
"What a fine ass it is." Genji said casually.
"Genji!" Ichiro said annoyed.
"Yes, yes. Yours is nice too, runs in the Beifong family." Genji said waving him off, "Though they have nothing on Asami's."
"I... Thank you, Genji." Asami said, a bit flushed, "I guess."
"Still has nothing on my ass! I'm the ass king!" Genji said with a proud laugh, "Now I got that out of my system. Twinkle Toes, continue."
"How am I suppose to save this city when I can't even learn airbending?" Korra said turning her head, "I'm the worst Avatar ever! I just feel... alone."
"No, that's nonsense!" Asami said kindly, "You're amazing!"
"Amazing is a bit too strong of a word. But your cool." Genji said, "Also Aang hadn't mastered all the elements when he was battling the Fire Nation. And he wasn't alone. Believe you me, I should know, I was there for the whole sordid affair."
"I sometimes forget how old you really are..." Ichiro said before turning to Korra, placing his hand on top of hers, "We got your back Korra, and we can save this city. Together."
"T-Thanks Ichiro." Korra said, a blush gracing her cheeks.
Genji leaned closer to Asami as he continued to watch the two, "Twenty Yuan on that they be fucking by the end of the year." he said.
Asami scoffed at this before she leaned closer to him, "I give them a week." she whispered.
Later that evening, a garage door owned by Asami open and the headlights from a car shining on Korra, Ichiro, Mako and Bolin. The young raven haired woman starts up the car and drives out of the garage. The car swerves and stops in front of them.
"You think this'll do?" Asami said, leaning on the door.
"I like the new Team Avatar's style." Mako said impressed.
A low whistle was heard, coming from Genji with his sword in one hand and a suitcase in the other. "Now that is a nice ride." he said impressed, "Use to have one like that. Before Equalists smashed it."
"I remember." Korra said to him, "That was when we met."
"Yeah, good times, good times." Genji said remembering what he had done earlier that evening before turning to Asami, "I brought you a gift." indicating the suitcase.
Taking it, she opened it up to find a electrified glove inside. "Genji, you know what a girl likes." Asami teased, as she put it on conducts electricity from the glove, "You shouldn't have."
"It's no big deal, it's second hand anyway. Though it did took some time to wash the blood off it, but I've gotten pretty good at that." Genji said with a shrug, ignoring the glare Mako was giving him, "Oh dips on the front seat!" as he jumped in the front seat of the cart.
"Wait." Mako said alarmed.
"Nope!" Genji said over his shoulder, "I called dips!"
"What? No, not that!" Mako said, as Korra, Genji, Ichiro and Bolin all jump into the car, "You cut off an Equalists hand to get that glove?"
"Why else would there be blood on it?" Genji said from the front seat, "Blood stains can be removed using one easy trick. And vinegar."
Mako shook his head as he jumped in as well.
"Get ready, Republic City." Bolin said in a deep, dramatic voice, "You are about to be patrolled by Team Avatar."
Asami changes gears and they drive off to patrol the city.
Cruising through the streets of Republic City, Genji resting his legs on the dashboard as the radio begins to speak.
"Unit two sixteen, cancel that ten fifty-eight at Harmony Tower." Police dispatcher said, "Come back to the station, over."
"My dad had police scanners installed in all of his cars." Asami said a bit somber, "I guess now I know why."
"Calling all units, Level Four Alert. Jailbreak at headquarters." Police dispatcher said, "Officers down, electrocuted. Chi blockers and Equalist convicts are still at large armed and dangerous. Last seen heading east. I repeat, Level Four Alert. Equalist jailbreak!"
Asami stops the car as a truck and several Equalist motorcyclists rush through the traffic. Asami changes gears and begins the car chase.
Cars twirl and stop from crashing into the truck as it plows through the street. Asami dodges the cars and still tails the chi blockers but a massive truck blocks their way.
"Korra! Bolin!" Asami shouted, "Give me a ramp! Now!"
Korra and Bolin earthbend a massive ramp that sends the car soaring into the air before landing safely, resuming their chase. Mako uses his lightning and strikes one of the chi blocker's motorcycle, making the chi blocker fall to the ground.
Genji jumped out of the car and onto the now free motorcycle and continues to drive it. Bolin earthbends earth darts, hitting the wheel of another motorcycle, causing the chi blocker to fall. Asami dodges the fallen cyclist.
The rest of the chi blockers begin to use a smoke screen and move right in front of them. Not being able to see, Asami puts on her goggles and notices the chi blockers turning to the right.
"Help me out!" Asami shouted, "We gotta make this turn!"
Korra and Bolin earthbend a giant, angled curve, making the car swerve up before landing back onto the street and they resume the chase.
Asami changes gears and the car gains speed to ram the motorcyclists, flinging them into the air before landing on top of the bonnet. Mako firebends but his arm is wrapped up by the Equalist's bola. Mako uses his other arm, but it becomes wrapped up as well.
The other Equalist jumps in front of Bolin and chi blocks his arm before he can even attack, making him the fall back into his seat with pain. Asami electrocutes the chi blocker with her glove, causing the Equalist to fall onto the back seat.
The first Equalist attempts to pull Mako out of his seat, but Ichiro grabs his shoulders and pulls him down, causing the Equalist to fall over onto the car, where Asami electrocutes him. Ichiro chucks the unconscious Equalist to the back.
Genji drives the motorcycle closer to the truck so the driver is visible, leaping from his motorcycle and atop the truck. With one swing from his sword, he pierced the glass and skewered the head of the driver. The truck begins to swerve before tumbling to its sides, hitting the lamp post, launching Genji off it before it stopped.
"Seems you guys had a little accident. Good thing the police is here." Ichiro said with a smirk before turning to Genji who had landed in a pile of trashcans, "You alright?"
He simply gave him a thumbs up.
Photos are taken by reporters as the team waits for the police to arrive. Genji was smoking a cigarette, just offering one to Korra who declines just as Tarrlok approaches them.
"Avatar Korra." Tarrlok said sternly, "What do you think you are doing?"
"Oh, hey Tarrlok. Nice of you to show up finally." Korra said mockingly, "Here, we captured the escaped convicts for you."
"What you did was tear up the city." Tarrlok said angry, "And impede the real authorities in their pursuit of these criminals."
"Excuse me sir, neither your task force or the cops could have been here on time." Ichiro said as he walked up, "If it wasn't for Team Avatar, they would've gotten away." arms folded behind his back.
"Detective Ichiro." Tarrlok said, "If you were with..."
"Me with Team Avatar? No, of course not." Ichiro said with a smirk, "I just happen to be in the neighborhood and was taking statements."
"You might have the head detective on your side, but his power is limited." Tarrlok said turning to Korra, "This is your last warning. Stay out of my way!"
He turns back and drives away while Team Avatar smiles in victory.
A few nights later on the streets of Republic City where Team Avatar are resting and eating their dumplings with Genji smoking one of his cigarettes.
"Do you have to do that while we eat?" Mako said disgusted.
"Yes!" Genji said mockingly, when the radio suddenly starts buzzing.
"All available units." Police dispatcher said, "Please respond to the fifty six hundred block of Dragon Flats borough. Equalists have taken to the streets, consider them armed and dangerous. Proceed with caution."
"Dips on the front seat!" Genji said before jumping in.
"Damn it." Bolin muttered as he jumps in.
Ichiro jumps in but holds his hand out for Korra, "Milady." he said with a bow.
"What a gentleman." she said as he helps her into the car.
Driving off to the Dragon Flats borough, where police airships are circling around an area plunged in darkness.
"Why is the power out?" Ichiro said confused.
The car swerves around the corner and stops. Asami takes off her goggles as they look at hundreds of nonbenders protesting at the metalbending police officers who are holding them behind a blockade.
"Wait a second." Asami said confused, "These people aren't armed or dangerous."
"Sure doesn't look that way." Korra said concerned.
They turn to see Saikhan speaking through a microphone, "All nonbenders, return to your homes immediately. Disperse, or you will all be arrested."
"Yeah, as soon as you turn our power back on." a man shouted as cries of protests in agreement began to stir.
"You benders can't treat us this way!" a woman shouts, holding a child. Her other child tugs at her skirt and points at Korra.
"Mummy, look!" the child said, "It's the Avatar!"
People turn around and rush toward Korra. She looking at the people in sadness, she strides forward, pushing two metalbender officers aside. "Everyone, please stay calm. I'm gonna put a stop to this." she assured them.
Along with her friends as they search for Tarrlok who is talking to a task force member.
"Tarrlok!" Korra shouted, "You need to turn the power back on and leave these people alone."
"Avatar Korra." Tarrlok said sternly, "You and your playmates have no business here."
"We're not going anywhere." Korra said defiantly.
"What is the meaning of this, Tarrlok." Ichiro demanded to know.
"This is an Equalist rally." Tarrlok said points at the people, "They are the enemy."
"They're not Equalists, they're just normal people." Ichiro corrected him, "You don't have the right to treat these innocent people like criminals."
Metalbending officers begin to earthbend, removing the legs from the barriers and forcing the people back as they coil the barriers around them. The metalbenders slam their legs into the ground, causing large mounds of earth to rise underneath the nonbenders, lifting them off the ground.
Fear begins to spread through those not caught, and they start running away. The police force prepares to put people into the police trucks, while Team Avatar looks on aghast.
Korra earthbends the mounds of earth down so every one can escape. Tarrlok snarls at her, and turns to see Asami watching her. He bends a water whip to grab onto Asami's wrist, who turns and looks up at him.
"You're under arrest!" Tarrlok said.
"Because of what!?" Genji shouted, his hand reaching for his Yamato.
"She's a nonbender out past curfew, it's a law passed this morning by the council and her father is a known Equalist conspirator." Tarrlok said smugly before turning to his officers, "Arrest him and the two brothers as well."
The metalbending officers coil their cables around the brothers and pull them in, but Genji side steps and slices the cable in two with a single stroke of his weapon.
"Go ahead." Genji said taking his stance, "Make my day!"
The metalbending cops eyes each other nervously, normal criminals they were capable of handeling but none of them where even sure they could stand up to a Shashou, a trained killer. Korra earthbends two massive rocks on either side of her, ready to attack with Genji.
"No, wait." Ichiro said stepping between them and the Task Force, "Don't give him any more reasons to arrest you."
Korra reluctantly drops the rocks back down, and a reluctant Genji resheated his sword. "How adorable." Tarrlock said mockingly to Ichiro, "Saving your girlfriend and mutant friend, detective?"
"No." Ichiro said shaking his head, "Making sure no innocent officers get killed for you."
"Yeah!" Genji shouted, making the officer's flinch, "Better be grateful! Because detective saved your sorry asses!"
As the brothers walk into the police truck, "Don't worry." Ichiro shouted after them, "I will get you out!"
A few hours later at the Police Headquarters, where Genji was sitting on a bench with Korra next to him, arms crossed as his sword rested next to his leg.
"I hate being lawfully good." Genji said rolling his eyes, "I hate this place."
"You don't like being here?" Korra said.
"My ex was the boss here." he said grumbly, "Just brings back bad memories, like the one in the bathroom. Sokka was never the same after..."
"I sometimes forget how old you are grandpa." Korra said, using humor the light the rather grim situation.
"Twinkle Toes." Genji said with a slight grin.
Above in the offices, Chief Saikhan walks towards his office, just before he could enter Ichiro comes walking up to him.
"Chief, I need a word." he said.
"Detective Ichiro, I'm pretty swamped at the moment." Saikhan said, "Can this wait?"
"No, it cannot." Ichiro said, "Three of Avatar Korra's friends were wrongly arrested tonight. I'd like you to release them immediately."
"They're not going anywhere." Saikhan said, "All Equalists suspects are being detained indefinitely. They'll be freed if and when the task force deems they are no longer a threat."
"What?" Ichiro said perplexed, "What about due process? Which they should get under the law?"
"You'll have to take that up with Councilman Tarrlok." Saikhan said rahter nervously.
"Oh, I plan to first thing in the morning." Ichiro said, "I will speak about it with Councilman Tenzin as well."
Seventh chapter which gives a bit more backstory on Genji and the Shashou as well as build relationships. Hope you enjoyed.
