Hello there, friends. Welcome to the next chapter of Avatar: Immortal Dragon.
This is the second part of the something I had been planning since around the start of this story, and I'm actually happy how it turned out.
So I hope you enjoy it and now on to the review.
girani4: Your alive!? Happy to hear from you my dude. Come on, you know me for long enough.
And now story time.
Genji still couldn't believe it as he got a look from Republic City he hadn't gotten before. His broken body was being carried by the strong arms of the Man in White as they literally flew through the skies of Republic City. The Masked Man followed after them at a distance, using water from some sort of bracelets to swing from building to building.
It wasn't long before they touched down on Genji's balcony. As the wounded Shashou was put on the sofa, the Masked Man touching down and enters just as Genji told the Man in White to go into his lab and to pick up a specific bottle.
"Strange." the Masked Man growled as he looked around, "Where I'm from this building belongs to Akahasu Inc."
Genji was too hurt to say something back and when the Man in White returned with the bottle filled with burning silver liquid, he was forced to help Genji ingest it.
The burning sensation was instantaneously once it was down his throat. A fire was lid through in entire body, his stomach turned on his head but Genji forced himself to keep it in as boned began to snap in place and flesh began to knit itself together.
"What was that?" the Man in White said as he looked at the bottle.
"Shashou Elixer. Specifically it was the 'Silver Dragon decoction'." Genji said through parched lips as his throat had become extremely dry, "It accelerates my healing factor, but it's very difficult to make and the ingredients are very hard to come by. So I use it sparingly."
With that Genji stood back up and walked to the bar to fix himself something to drink, "But I think some introductions are in order." Genji said, picking up a bottle of whisky, "I'm Genji Chirayus, I'm also known as the Immortal Dragon, nice to meet you."
"They call me the Vigilante." the Masked Man growled, standing there with his arms crossed in front of his chest, "Or Vigil."
"Jason Skywalker." the Man in White said, "And we're not from around here."
"Yeah, I could tell." Genji said taking a swing from his bottle, "So where are you two from?"
"Well Vigil is from Republic City, another Republic City." Jason tried to explain, "And I'm from another, another Republic City... It's a bit difficult to explain..."
Genji just managed to spray the whisky into his glass before he shouted in surprise, "The Arcmoani Network's are real!?"
"You know about it?" Vigil growled.
"Yeah, I do. But it was all just theoretical! A legend like the tragedy of Sojiro Aizen." Genji said as he paced around, "That completely changes how we understand the initial singularity. We're talking about an eternal inflation system and how does that even work with all the quantum... It's insane!"
"I know, it's a bit overwhelming. I believe there are fifteen Networks, each one being it's own Multiverse." Jason said calmly, "I'm from Arcmoani Network 3, while I believe Vigil is from Arcmoani Network 6, while we're currently in Arcmoani Network 9."
"Where does the Tyranno fucker come from?" Genji said as he sat down on a bar stool.
"That we don't know." Jason said, "He showed up one day in my World, he was causing trouble until I showed up and he quickly fled. I followed after him and ended up meeting Vigil. We then followed him here and we found you being thrown out of a window."
"And do you have any idea what he has put up around the district?" Genji said.
"Some sort of energy field, far more advanced then what we have on my World." Vigil growled, "Whatever it is, it's stopping us from leaving this place."
"The district or the World or dimension or whatever it's called?" Genji said as he looked behind the bar counter for a pack of smokes.
"...Yes." Vigil growled, "He has taken the district hostage and we can agree it's not for any good reason."
"Okay, I'm just going to say it." Genji said as he had a cigarette in his mouth, "Why do you talk like that? Are you a heavy chain smoker or do you have something wrong with your voice or..."
"I don't have to explain anything to you." Vigil growled, "We have more pressing matters."
"Right, we are going after Tyranno." Jason said diplomatically, "So..."
"Count me in." Genji said, putting the bottle down, "I want a second round with the dick in black."
"Then we're going to need to make a plan of attack." Jason said.
"I have a plan. Attack!" Genji said, "But yeah, some prep and a plan B would be cool. You two need anything?"
"I need to prep my gadgets." Vigil growled, "Can I use your lab?"
"Sure thing, use whatever you need. I just have one rule in that place. Everything you use, put it back where you got it from." Genji said, "I'm very a peculiar about how my lab is organized."
"Thanks." Vigil growled.
To Genji's surprise, Vigil walked up and from his thumb a small orange flame sprang. "I talk like this to disguise my voice." Vigil growled as he lit Genji's cigarette.
"I had you pegged for an waterbender." Jason said as Vigil turned his back to them and walked to the lab.
"I am a waterbender, and a firebender." Vigil growled, "And recently, I became a earthbender, and a airbender."
Both Genji and Jason gave each other a surprised look.
"I'm a bit confused right now." Genji said, "Are you the Avatar where your from?"
"I'm a Avatar." Vigil growled, "I'm the Dark Avatar.", before he went into the lab.
Genji and Jason look as Vigil went into the lab, before gave each other a uncertain look. "For some reason, I'm not surprised." Jason said with a shrug, "By the way, you don't happen to have a map of this district do you?"
"Got one in my library part of the lab." Genji said as he and Jason walked towards the lab, "So... You can fly?"
"Yes, I can." he said.
"Awesome." Genji said impressed, "How do you do it? Do you bend air around you or something?"
"That's a good question." Jason said as he thought about it, "I think I can manipulate graviton particles to defy the forces of gravity."
"I have no idea what that means." Genji said with a smile.
As they arrived in the lab, they already saw Vigil at work, beakers in hand and sitting on a stool on wheels. From a bookcase Genji pulled a roll of paper and unrolling it on a desk, it showed the blueprints of Republic City.
"Just another question, can I use that board." Jason said as Genji placed paper and writing tools for his use.
"Sure, make yourself at home." Genji said with a nod.
And so the trio went to work. Genji had taken the Space Sword and began to temper it with Shashou metal, creating a new blade. With the blade newly forged, it was now cooling off before he could continue to work on it.
Jason who was looking over the map, taking notes before placing a sketch of Tyranno on the board. As Vigil raised the beaker to his eye level, he began to stir it lightly. Without losing his focus on his work, Genji comes rolling up to him on his own stool.
"So... the mask, the black suit, the voice." Genji said, drumming his fingers on the table, "There must be a story behind it."
"You aren't going to let it go, are you? Fine." Vigil growled annoyed, "My parents are dead, killed in front of me when I was a kid. I became my greatest fear to make sure nobody else would ever have to go through what I had... That's why I became the Vigilante, why I go out every night, to save Republic City."
"And when your wearing your mask, you talk like an asshole?" Genji said with a nod, "That's rough buddy."
Vigil just let out a growl as he continued to work.
"Hey Jay." Genji said turning on his stool so he looked in his direction, "So what's your backstory."
"Well nothing as dramatic as Vigil... But I also lost my parents and my whole damn planet. I arrived on a different world where I couldn't connect with anyone, except for an amazing girl who became my girlfriend... She died in my arms." Jason said, not looking up from his work, "And when I met another hero for the first time, he tried to kill me. He became one of my best friends. I saved the universe at least twice then actually died. And I still got haters..."
"Then... how are you alive?" Genji said confused looking from Jason to Vigil who also seemed surprise at that statement, "You said you just died."
"Not to sound like a broken record, but I have no idea." Jason said with a shrug, "What about you, Genji? What's your story?"
"Nothing as depressing as you two." Genji said, "My family and I lived on a small farm. We weren't rich, and none of us were benders. Then one day, we were attacked by bandits. My parents would have died if it wasn't for a Shashou that happened to pass by and for payment he took me and my brother."
"Your parents just gave you away?" Jason said shocked, "That's horrible."
"It wasn't unusual back then. People didn't had a lot of money and Shashou's don't work for free." Genji said with a shrug, "It's not so bad, as I said, don't remember much about them. Then we were put through training that bordered on torture. That was before the experiments that gave me mutations. That was three hundred and seventy years ago."
"...That's rough buddy." Vigil growled with some sympathy to his harsh voice.
"Come on, look at us. Being so dark and emo, I don't think we're DC." Genji said with a smile, leaning back against the table, "That stands for Depressed Clinically."
"Or Depressed Characters." Jason said with a small smile on his face, before he went back to his map.
"Okay, just between you and me." Genji whispered, looking in the direction of Jason, "How is his coat doing that? The flaring out thing?"
"No, idea." Vigil growled, "There is no wind here, we're inside."
"Me neither." Jason said from his side of the lab, "It just does."
"Apparently he can hear us." Vigil growled, placing the beaker down over the fire, "What are some of the craziest things you guys have fought?"
"You already met him." Genji said with a chuckle, "But I guess Vaatu was pretty out there."
"Oh, no way. I fought Vaatu too." Jason said looking up, "Then he fused with Unalaaq and become some sort of giant spirit monster thing. I called him Unavaatu."
"...I want to fight a Unavaatu..." Vigil growled to himself.
"I'm still on the, you fought a giant spirit monster." Genji said confused, "Like how big was he?"
"Really big. Bigger than that statue of Avatar Aang in the bay." Jason said gesturing to the window, "I guess that girl who turned herself into a demon was also pretty weird, that fight carried all the way into space."
"You went to space?... Damn." Vigil growled as he crossed his arm, "I'm lame compared to you two. Greatest threat I ever fought was Amon."
"Hold up, can we go back to the 'I'm lame' part?" Jason said kindly, "Because your not lame. Your Vigil, the Dark Avatar, your pretty amazing."
"Yeah, thanks." Vigil growled with a nod, "I needed to hear that from the Space God." but it was apparent his words had a positive effect on him.
Once everything was ready the trio gathered around the table, where Jason was tapping his chin as he went over the papers and map.
"You have a plan?" Vigil said, while Genji turned a chair around before sitting down.
"I do." Jason said as he pointed to different placed on the map as he spoke, "The force field is drawing power from here. Once we take that out and the field disappears, Tyranno will come look. Things will get ugly quickly, so we need to prioritize evacuating civilians."
"I agree." Vigil said with a nod, "It's refreshing to work with a professional."
"My speed will help with that, once the district has been evacuated, I will join you." Jason said, "I hate to ask this of you two, but distracting Tyranno will fall to you."
"I'm looking forward to a rematch." Genji said, "He doesn't know I'm alive or that you two are here."
"If only we had a way to communicate with the outside." Vigil growled.
"We can!" Genji said suddenly, "We have a phone. I also got a telegraph machine down in the basement. Two of them actually!"
"Having a back up plan is always good." Vigil growled, "But who is going to be the recipient of this message?"
"My girlfriend, Asami Sato." Genji said with a smile, "She is as smart as she is beautiful. Not to brag but she is easily a thirteen out of ten. She is so hot, you wouldn't mind getting the herp from her, you know? You would pay her just to spit in your face."
The other two gave each other a side glance.
"...Wouldn't describe Asami in those exact words..." Jason said, "But I get where your coming from."
"Yeah..." Vigil growled.
Genji was standing next to the coffee table as he was on the phone with Asami, relaying the plan with the other two standing a few feet away.
"I'm surprised he hasn't cut the phone lines." Vigil growled, "It's one of the first things I would do."
"Maybe he's arrogant. Thinking there is no one that can oppose him." Jason theorized as he looked at Genji, "Maybe he just doesn't care."
"Whatever it is, it works in our favor." Vigil growled, "What are you smiling at?"
"Genji's heart beat increased the moment he heard his Asami's voice." Jason said with a smile of his own, "He's truly in love with her."
"You have someone?" Vigil growled.
Jason gave him a side glance before shaking his head, "No. I don't have time for that stuff, you know?" he said, "Do you?"
"It's a bit complicated." Vigil growled.
"I get you." Jason said with a nod, "Guess it's just not in the cards for guys like us."
"Well, I wouldn't give up." Vigil growled wisely, "It took a while but we made it work. Me and Korra... Well the Korra from my World, it gets confusing here."
"You'll get used to it." Jason said with a chuckle.
"Okay, we're going to put the plan into motion." Genji said putting a communicating device in his pocket, "Asami... If I don't make it out... No, fuck it. I'll tell you when I see you again." before placing the phone down.
With the plan set, the trio went towards the elevator and heading for the battle.
Some time later, Vigil was placing some clay like substance around the generator with Genji and Jason standing on guard before the visitor would be off to help with the evacuation.
"Okay, this guy is very arrogant or very stupid." Genji said as he looked around, "No guards, no security even."
"Maybe he believes nobody would figure out how to break the barriers." Jason said as he kept an eye on the sky, "At least he was smart enough to put the source powering the barrier inside of it."
Vigil stood up before turning around, "It's ready." he growled as the trio began to walk towards a safe distance.
"What exactly did you do?" Genji said curiously.
"Rigged it with Expoclay. It's a synthetic clay I invented that explodes on my command." Vigil growled and once they where a save distance he continued, "Are you ready?"
"I am." Jason said as he began to float.
"Wait, wait!" Genji suddenly spoke up, placing a hand each on Jason and Vigil's shoulder, "I love you guys."
"...Thank you." Jason and Vigil said, appreciative if a bit awkward.
"All right, let's do this." Genji said letting go of them and drawing his new Yamato, this time it had a black blade.
"Let's go." Jason said before taking off to the sky and disappearing with a loud booming sound.
Vigil holds up his hand, he snapped his finger to set off the Expoclay which erupted in orange explosions enveloped the generator and shutting it down.
At a near instance, the force fields began to fade away and rain began to drizzle down from the sky above. And almost as quickly, the sound of thunder ripping the skies open was heard above them and with a flash of lightning, Tyranno was floating above them.
He came floating down from the skies. His cape billowing around him, giving him the appearance of some sort of otherworldly monster.
"I'm surprised your alive. A mistake that will soon be corrected." Tyranno said before turning to look at Vigil, "So you have followed me."
"Protecting the innocent doesn't end at the border of my dimension." Vigil growled.
"So... You want to tell us what this is about?" Genji said, "Your not here for my city but you did take an entire district hostage. So you'll understand I'm a bit confused by your motives."
"First I was a king and for a moment, however brief, I was a god. Unlimited power at my finger tips. And yet with all that power, all I wanted was to create the perfect World, one where my best friend was alive, one where everyone would thrive." Tyranno told them, "But I was stopped, my power stolen and my existence erased. But among nothingness, I met a being, something so far beyond, something so ancient... It was only then that I realized I never knew what true power was..."
"...That doesn't explain why you are doing this." Genji pointed out.
"Do you seriously think I'd explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome?" Tyranno said smugly as the ground began to shake, "I did it thirty-five minutes ago."
Light erupted from the fissures created by the barrier before the entire district began to float upwards.
"Enough talk." Vigil growled, "Now we're going to stop you."
As the ground was now high enough to touch his feet and the district continued to rise.
"You can try." Tyranno said, "And you will find out you can't."
Tyranno lunges towards the two, cape billowing after him. A purple blade made of energy emitted from his hand, to block Genji's first strike, creating a barrier made from green energy with the other to block the fire blast from Vigil.
Genji's blade clashed with Tyranno's energy blade. With a graceful flourish, Genji made an opening for Vigil to unleashes a wave of air, rebuffing the tyrant in black.
As he lands Vigil used a water tendril to launch himself upwards, to evade a blast of energy released from Tyranno's glove. Vigil send him flying backward with a fiery punch to the chin.
Genji closed the distance and the strike aimed for Tyranno's head was blocked by Tyranno's blade. The two attack at the same time but Tyranno neutralizes their attack with a large dome of energy around him.
Vigil attacks Tyranno with airbending, but misses. The Tyrant in Black returned the attack with two rapid shots of energy, which he evades before gaining altitude and assaulting Tyranno with large rocks.
Tyranno breaks the rocks with two blasts of energy before resuming to block Genji's strikes. He throws Genji off before catching Vigil's flaming fist and used the momentum throws him off and into the ground.
"From what I gather, we are very much alike." Tyranno said as he approached Vigil, "Everything about you tells the tale, your attitude, your costume, your tactics. They all scream of outrage, despair, vengeance. What terrible wrong was done to you to set you on this path?"
"What are you planning to do?" Vigil growled as he stood up, "Talk me to death?"
"Actually." Tyranno said, punching him against the stomach, he felt a few ribs crack before he was chock slammed into the ground, "I thought I just beat you to death." as he began to repeatedly punch him in his the face, his white mask began to crack.
Genji comes in swinging, forcing Tyranno to return his attention back to him, parrying each others' swings and strike as rapidly as they move. With him distracted, Vigil exploits this by bending electricity against him, striking him.
Even with the electricity coursing through his armor, Tyranno still has the clarity of mind to send a stream of energy towards Vigil, forcing him to stop bending and jump away but he was forced to defend when Genji comes down on him and forced in back into a blade-lock.
"And what about you?" Genji said as he began to push the blade back, "What made you all suit up?"
"Blame my father." Tyranno said dryly, "I sure do." before he forced Genji back with a powerful strike with his free hand before forcing him onto the defensive, pushing him further and further back with every swipe and strike.
Vigil leaps towards Tyranno, who blocks his dropping punch of orange flames with a blast of blue. The resulting explosion forced the three combatants across the ground.
Genji and Vigil got back to their feet as Tyranno prepared to attack them again.
It was just as the district rose above the clouds that the sound of a thunderous boom ripped through the skies before a white streak comes barring down and Jason comes flying in to deck Tyranno in the face, sending him flying into a building, half of it collapsed on impact burying him in the rubble.
"Everyone alright?" Jason said as he landed next to them.
"Yeah, just a bit bruised." Vigil growled getting back on his feet, "What took you so long?"
"I wasn't expecting this place to take off, so evacuations took a bit longer." Jason said, "Then I looked for a way to get it back down. Because when this drops, it could cause extinction on all life on the planet."
"...That is bad..." Genji muttered, "All my stuff is on this planet."
The trio turned to the ruined building where the ruble moved and out of it shot a black streak, revealed to be Tyranno as he floated up and landed on top of the ruble, looking down on the trio.
"That is the idea." Tyranno said, "Once this district reaches critical height, the engine will drop it down back to the planet. Where upon the impact the engine will combust and take this entire World with it."
"Your taking this entire dimension with it?" Jason said horrified, "But why? What good will genocide do for you?"
"By the time I was born, the Worlds had already faced so many multi-dimensional ending events. Each and everyone of them orchestrated from behind the scenes by a singular, omnipotent, omniscient, all-knowing being. One that actively despises humanity, one that will not stop until all is turned to nothingness."
"We can't fight it, all we can do is delay the inevitable. Not even you, Knight of the Wind can hope to stop it." Tyranno said, "So I'm making the only logical choice, accelerate what is unavoidable. I'm letting it in."
"There has to be a better way. Things might seem hopeless but that's the thing about us humans." Jason tried to reason with him, "We never give up fighting, you must realize that?"
"I know all about you, Jason Skywalker, the Knight of the Wind. Your past, your present and your future. Your fighting so you can watch everything around you die." Tyranno said, "You'll outlast every fragile, insignificant being in the Worlds. You'll live to see your planet crumble to dust and blow away!"
"If you know so much about me as you claim, then you should know I will never stop fighting. Ever." Jason said, "So keep your reasoning of falling to fear to yourself. Because I don't let fear compromise who I am."
"By the spirits." Genji whispered, "That sounded so badass."
"So be it." Tyranno said, the lines of his suit began to glow red this time, "Then I will kill you all now, then everyone else."
A wave of red energy spread over the field, revealing an army of crimson red and black versions of Tyranno surrounding the trio. Immediately, the trio turned around so they stood back-to-back with each other.
"I am legion." the Clone Tyranno's echoed through the empty district, "For I am..."
"A pain in my ass." Vigil growled as he looked around.
"Vigil, you take the five hundred on the right, Genji you take the five hundred on the left." Jason said, "I'll take the five hundred..."
"Screw you! I'm taking five hundred and one!" Genji said with a smirk downing an Shashou Elixer, "This is fun! A race against the clock, live or death and against impossible odds."
"There is a difference between very hard and impossible." Jason told him, "Never give up until you can't fight anymore, sometimes you have to stand up to something bigger than you."
"Jason, I'm already at full mass! Stop digging for more!" Genji said with a manic grin, "No matter what, If I die here, I'll die happy."
On his command, the Clone Tyranno's began to charge towards them. In response, the trio began to do so as well.
"They are not stopping." Vigil growled as he entered the Avatar State and dashed forward and preparing to airbend.
"Neither are we!" Genji shouted, as his skin turned deadly pale and black veins began to appear on his face.
Three of the Clone Tyranno's were cut down by Genji turning them into ruby dust. Vigil ignites his right fist and sends a large fire blast at the incoming attackers. A group of them aimed their gauntlets at Genji's back, but just as their would have blasted him, Jason flew straight through them.
Vigil initiates a hand-to-hand combat with a Clone Tyranno, the clone aims for Vigil's head, but misses by mere inches before Vigil retaliates with a fire blast, taking out his opponent in ruby dust.
Vigil throws another fire punch with his left hand, but the Clone Tyranno leans back to dodge it, knocking Vigil's hand to the side. He uses the sideways moment to spin around in a full moon fire kick, hitting the Clone Tyranno into ruby dust.
Jason blitz through three of them, punching through them to turn them into ruby dust, before sending a fourth one down to the ground with a leg swipe who was pierced through the chest by Genji.
A group of them attempted to hit Genji from behind with blast from their gauntlets, but they were destroyed when Jason's eyes lit up red before shooting red beams of extreme heat from them.
"What was that!?" Vigil growled as he aimed a high fire kick at the Clone Tyranno's head to disintegrate him.
"Heat Vision." Jason explained, catching a flying fist before using his Heat Vision again to blast another Clone to dust, "It burns some of the solar energy inside of me to..."
"Burn the fuck out of things or beams that burn so hot it can slice things in two!" Genji said finishing another Clone before Vigil used a water whip to pull himself towards a Clone, landing a solid fire-fueled kick to the head.
"No offence Vigil, but I want Jason's powerset." Genji said, ducking under a blast before twirls behind using an upward strike before Vigil blasted the clone with another blast of fire.
"Honestly..." Vigil growled, "I would like them too."
"I want your water whips." Jason said, "Sounds like fun swinging from building to building."
"If you don't do your stretches every day, it's a killer on your back." Vigil growled, "But if you think that's fun. Wait till you see my car."
"Yeah, I'm not legally allowed to drive." Jason said, just as he turned around to evade a strike aimed at his head by the real Tyranno.
Tyrano struck at Jason's, but his fist where caught, dispersing air with each punch.
As their fists clashes, Jason blitz him, striking Tyranno in the stomach and sending him grinding over the floor.
With a growl, Tyranno charged at him and the two shoot up further into the sky, in no time at all they were in outer orbit to continue the brawl. Jason dodges another punch, before he punched Tyranno evading another attack from him,
"What's the matter?" Jason said, evading again before striking Tyranno in the face hard enough to cause a crack to appear on his helmet, "Never been hit by someone above your own weight class before?"
With a last punch, Jason shattered the side of Tyranno's helmet before dragging him back to the rising district. Tyranno unleashed a sonic blast, causing his foe's ears to bleed and Jason himself to flinch in pain long enough for Tyranno to slam him into the ground in a massive eruption of dust and earth.
Emerging from the crater, half of his helmet was demolished, showing off his green eye and slicked back brown hair.
Looking up, Tyranno sees Genji and Vigil having taken care of his army and ready to fight. The dust surrounded them as his armor began to repair itself.
Anger started to burn inside him, but it turned into a raging inferno when he heard a voice before its owner emerges from the dust.
"What's the matter?" Jason said, floating above them, "Are you going to cry?"
As his anger intensifies, Tyranno unleashed an even more powerful sonic blast, forcing the other two back as Jason was stunned again.
"After I'm done with you, I will turn this place to cinders." Tyranno said as he took a hold of Jason's head and began to send a continues wave of electricity through him, "Then before the end comes. I'm going to your World and personally kill your Korra!"
But through the pain, Jason's eyes lit up and Tyranno knew how much he fucked up when he ceased his attack and could just barely bring up his shield to block the incoming red stream before even his shield was shattered. He was forced back, the attack hitting him in the chest forcing his self-repairing armor to work over time to keep the damage from hurting the flesh and blood body within.
With a burning chest plate, Tyranno shot a continues stream of energy at the group but Jason countered it with a stream of Heat Vision of his own causing the two streams to fight for dominance.
Genji engaged him with his sword, forcing him to attack with one hand and defend against the new Yamato with the other. Vigil attacked with another fiery strike, Tyranno evades under it and is send flying with an air kick to the chest before it was blasted with Heat Vision.
Still standing, Tyranno sends a couple more purple fire strikes, but Genji dodges them all and managed to strike him with his sword, creating a large slash across his chest.
Tyranno stumbled back as he held onto his chest. Behind him it looked as if reality had started to crack and shatter like a glass mirror, ripping reality apart to create a black rift portal, emitting a dark vapor from it.
Without a word, Tyranno walked back into the rift merging with the black vapor, until he was completely gone, before it faded away, leaving no sign it was ever there.
"You know... It's actually quite beautiful up here." Genji said as he looked into the vastness of space, before realization set in what that would mean, "Oh crap."
Almost immediately they felt the ground give away as it began to plummet back down to the planet below.
"Any idea's!?" Genji shouted.
"One, actually." Jason said, "I'm going to fly down and try to slow this hunk of rock down, Vigil try to use your earthbending to slow it down from your side, Genji call someone down there to rally the earthbenders to help slow it down."
"Hold on!" Vigil growled, "Even if we slow it down enough to safely land it back, you'll get crushed under all that weight."
"Yeah!" Genji said, "You will die!"
"My life for everyone else? Sounds like a good trade... Whatever happens next." Jason said, as he began to float above the ground, "I'm glad we met."
Before they could say more he flew off into the sky and off towards holding back the comet. With its effect almost immediately as they felt the descend slow down, the other two immediately went to do their part.
Vigil took a deep breath, through his nose and out of his mouth before his eyes glowed a burning orange, showing he had gone into his Avatar State. He crouched down until both his hands touched the earth, a wave washed over the surface kicking up dust as Vigil began to earthbend to slow it down.
"Asami!" Genji shouted through the device in his hand, "Can you hear me!?"
"Genji! Finally!" her voice reached him, "What's happening up there? The entire district just flew off!"
"Yeah, it will take a bit to explain, but if the district crashes into the planet, a engine will go off and kill us all." Genji said speaking quickly, "We got Jason attempting to hold it back and Vigil just went into the Avatar State."
"Avatar State?" Asami said confused, "How is he doing that? Korra and I are here."
"Because he's the Dark Avatar." Genji said.
"How?" she said, "I'm the Dark Avatar."
"Because he's from another Network... Never mind, we can explain later!" Genji said, "We need you, Korra and as many earthbender to help slow it down!"
"Right, I'll relay the message." Asami said, "Be careful, Genji."
"...I'm just a guy with a sword on a man made comet." Genji muttered, "Yeah, I'll be alright."
The heat surrounding the district became almost unbearable as the district came closer and closer to the planet. Moments before impact the district shook violently as it seemed they where now in reach for the other earthbenders.
Genji lost his balance by the sudden shake up and he fell to the ground. Buildings began to collapse from the sheer force upon impact as a cloud of dust blocked out Genji's vision.
The shaking of the district stopped, allowing the dust to settle. Genji was laying on his back as he caught up the dust filling his lunges. Through the tears filling his eyes, he saw Vigil kneeling on the ground amongst the ruble, clearly exhausted from the effort it took him.
Standing up, he walked over to him before offering him his hand, "You alright?" Genji said.
"Yeah." Vigil growled, accepting his help and was pulled back to his feet.
The two looked around the ruins created from the battle and the impact back into the planet. Through the dust, he could hear voices call out to them.
"We're here!" Genji shouted.
And through the dust, which parted as if blasted by air and soon he saw Asami rushing towards them, Ichiro close behind along with Korra. Before he could react, Asami stood across from him before slapping Genji across the face.
"What was that for!?" Genji said, rubbing the side of his face.
"Do you have any idea of worried I was!?" Asami shouted, "Don't ever worry me like that again!"
"I'll try." Genji said, "But that slap nearly..."
"Don't try to be humorous when I'm mad at you!" Asami said, before pulling him in for a kiss, showing how happy she was he had managed to survive.
"Where is Tyranno?" Ichiro suddenly spoke up.
"No, idea." Vigil growled getting the attention from Ichiro and Korra, "He disappeared just before we came down. We haven't seen him since."
"...Meaning he got away..." Ichiro muttered before turning to the masked man, "You need a healer or something?"
"I'm fine." Vigil growled.
"Really? I thought maybe with all the dust..." Ichiro said, pointing to his throat, "So you just hate your vocal chords?"
"Hold on." Korra said, "I thought you mentioned there were three of you."
Vigil turned to look at the ground as Genji turned his gaze away as he took a firmer grip of Asami's hand.
"Genji." she said softly, "What happened?"
"Jason... He..." Genji muttered, "He... He gave his life..."
Suddenly they turned to the sound of metal scraping over the ground. Turning to the sound, they saw a manhole cover being lifted up and moved over and soon after Jason appeared from it.
"Thanks for the pizza, guys." Jason said down the hole while sitting on the edge, "But I really need to get going."
Getting up, he saw everyone look at him. "I guess you guys wouldn't get the reference..." he said, sliding the cover back in place with his feet.
"Your alive!?" Genji shouted.
"Yeah, took some time digging myself out from the earth and finding an exit out of the sewer." Jason said looking down to the ground, "It's surprisingly spacious down there..."
"But how are you alive!?" Genji said, "You where the filling of an earth sandwich!"
"Sounds like an average Tuesday." Jason said with a smile, "Besides, I'm Jason Skywalker. I can do anything."
And so the plan from the black tyrant was thwarted by three unlikely allies from different realities.
The district would rebuild but many questions remained. But those were for another time, because Genji insisted they allow him to throw a party.
So they did, Genji had invited everyone back to his club, where everyone was mingling, drinking, eating food and just being glad they where alive. One of the first things that was discussed was how Jason and Vigil would get home, but Jason had that covered, assuring him that they wouldn't be stuck in this World.
The claim made by Tyranno, about a all-powerful being from beyond the realms greatly worried Jason, it was something he would have to look in to. But Genji persuaded him to put it on the back burner for now and just go with the party.
"Okay, just a small question." Genji said as he stood next to Korra, "What are you two doing here? I thought I send you two on vacation?"
"Well we were about to get busy but then we got a emergency broadcast about Republic City being under attack." Korra said, "So we came back to help."
"You two just can't seem to get laid, don't you?" Genji said, "First at the party at the South Pole when you two walked in on Akali and Iroh and now this."
"Tell me about it." Korra said shaking her head as she crossed her arms, "You mentioned something about me dating the masked guy?"
They looked in the direction of the bar where she saw Ichiro talk with Jason while Vigil sat next to him.
"Listen here little shit." Genji said sternly, "His name is Vigil, and you will show him the proper respect!"
"Sorry, didn't mean to insult your man crush." Korra said with a smirk.
"No, worries. Apologies accepted." Genji said casually, "But yeah, he's dating a version of you is dating him. I think there is something between you and Jason... Well another other you. Shit get's confusing sometimes."
"Tell me about it, apparently there are two others of me running around." Korra said, "Raiko's nightmare."
"Sounds more like Ichiro's wet dream." Genji said with a smirk, "He sounds like the type who would have a threesome with Korra and another Korra."
The conversation at the bar went from hidden dangers or the way home, they turned to their lives and Worlds, how different they are or how similar...
"What do you mean, Raiko is also president where your from?" Ichiro said standing next to the bar where Jason and Vigil where sitting, "That's messed up..."
Genji suddenly popped up from behind the bar, holding a bottle, "The system is broken man!" he shouted.
"I agree with that." Vigil growled.
"Hey, you two. It's an open bar and your not drinking." Genji said, pouring himself a whisky, "What are you having?"
"Wouldn't want to impose..." Jason said.
"Jason, don't be a boy scout." Genji said, placing the bottle down, "Or like we say around here, a Ichiro."
"Nobody but you does that." Ichiro said annoyed, "It was nice meeting you two."
"Likewise." Jason said before Ichiro went to Korra.
"I'm still not over the fact that he's your grandson." Vigil growled shaking his head, "Or that he is dating Korra."
"I know, I'm so proud of him." Genji said with a smile, "But come on, drink something."
"Well..." Jason said leaning forward, "If you insist, I'll have a cold beer."
"Right on." Genji said, picking a cold one from under the bar opening it and sliding it to Jason, "What about you?"
"Water." Vigil growled.
"Just water? Come on, Vigil! Live a little." Genji said a bit disappointed, "How many times do you actually save the world?"
"This is my second time." Vigil growled, "Fine, I'll have a Kumquat Mojito."
"Oh, we got a connoisseur here!" Genji said with a smile.
Once the drink was finished, the glass was placed in front of Vigil and the other two looked at him in curiosity.
"Can I have a straw?" Vigil growled before letting out a deep chuckle, "Just kidding." His hands reached up to lower his hood, before it moved to his face and he removed the mask.
His usually combed black hair was a bit messy from wearing a hood the entire time and just like Jason and Genji, he had amber colored eyes.
In one go, Vigil downed his drink in one go, letting out a sigh as he placed the glass back on the bar.
"Ah, that's the stuff." Vigil said.
"Did it just fix your voice?" Jason said surprised.
"No, that's just how I talk to disguise who I am. This is my normal voice." Vigil said with a small smile, something that looked good on him, "And I just talk like an asshole when I put on my mask. Can't help it."
"Look at him, actually making a joke." Genji said with a laugh, "Want another one?"
"Alright, one more." Vigil said with a chuckle.
"Coming right up, Vigil." Genji said with a wink as he slid off his stool.
"Soshi." Vigil said suddenly, "It's Soshi, actually."
"Yeah, figured it wasn't your real name." Jason said, as he was handed another beer.
A few hours later, the party was still going on as Genji, Jason and Soshi where now sitting in the club owners privet booth.
"Okay but..." Soshi said, "I'm still on the fact that you don't have a drivers license."
"Yeah, you can fly, run really fast and shoot fire from your eyes." Genji said, "But driving a car is too difficult?"
"Sounds like a oversimplification of what I can do, but yes." Jason said, "It's not that I don't have a license. I believe there is an actual law that says 'Jason S. Skywalker is not allowed to operate a motorize four-wheeler vehicle'."
"That bad?" Soshi said.
"One of my friends put it nicely once, 'Jason thinks every road he's on is Rainbow Road'." Jason said, "...You guys aren't going to get that reference..."
"Still why would you even need a car, you can fly!" Genji said with a dreamy sigh, "What I wouldn't do if I had your powers."
"No offence, Genji." Jason said with a laugh, "The mere thought of you having my powers terrifies me."
"It's probably for the best." Genji said with a laugh, "Okay, I'm just going to say it. Am I the only one who thinks its weird how similar we look?"
"Oh my god, thank you." Jason said throwing his hands up.
"I thought I was the only one." Soshi said relieved.
"You know..." Jason said looking between the them, "We could pass for brothers or something..."
"And now I'm glad neither of you two are Shashou's. You two would have put everyone else out of business." Genji said, holding his glass of whisky, "Something wrong?" looking at Soshi.
"Nothing, it's just..." Soshi said with a small smile as he played with his glass, "I always wanted brothers."
"Speaking from experience, there are some things you can't do without ending up being friends." Jason said raising his glass, "And defeating an dimensional dictator is definitely one of them."
With a a shared laugh, the three toasted their drinks together and so it was that the three became friends, and while the future was uncertain, they knew they would meet each other again once the two left.
Chapter 23, which is the second part of the mini arc.
I'm happy how it turned out, but I already mentioned that...
I was thinking about that line with Genji having Jason's powers... That would basically be a less evil Homelander!
