The Dragon Pox Vaccination

Summary: The week after Harry's sixteenth birthday, Lily takes him for his Dragon Pox booster.

The morning sun shining through the window woke Harry up. It was a beautiful day, in early August, with the sun shining and the wind blowing lightly. It was humid, but the nights were cool. Sitting up in his bed, Harry stretched for a second before turning and getting up from the bed.

He shuffled to the bathroom, where he relieved himself and washed his hands and face. He looked at himself in the mirror. He wasn't vain, but he was really self-conscious about his looks. He looked down at his shirtless torso. Pink winkles and imprints from the blankets and bedsheets lined his abdomen. He must have spent the majority of last night sleeping on his stomach.

Returning to his room, he picked up the T-shirt he had slung in the red armchair at the foot of his bed.

He pulled the blue shirt on over his head as he walked out his bedroom door. He yawned as he walked down the stairs and turned towards the kitchen.

"Good morning, sunshine," Sirius greeted from the stove.

Harry snorted at the sight of his godfather in his mother's pink flowery apron. Then he realized Sirius was cooking. Sirius couldn't cook to save his neck and he had given Harry food poisoning the one and only time that Sirius had cooked when they were staying at the house on the coast.

"Please tell me that someone else cooked breakfast?" he begged.

"Yes, sweetheart. Yours is in the microwave, I just put it in there," Lily said, upon entering the kitchen. She paused and kissed Harry's cheek before heading to the sink.

"Um, Mum? Why is Sirius…?" Harry trailed off, pointing to his godfather.

"He's making his own breakfast," Lily replied, knowing what her son was going to ask.

"Okay," Harry replied, yawning.

He opened the microwave door and picked up the plate with eggs, sausage and bacon. As he went to the table, he picked up a raspberry scone.

"Eat the eggs, first before the scone, please."

Harry didn't question how Lily had seen that since she wasn't looking. He wasn't surprised when a bowl of cut-up banana appeared beside his plate.

"Don't forget you have a healer appointment at noon today," Lily said, over her shoulder.

"Why?" Harry inquired, after swallowing a bite of egg and banana.

"It's for the Dragon Pox booster. And I imagine that Healer Morris will want to do a quick check-up while we're there."

"I just had a checkup last week," Harry reminded his mother.

"I know that, but Healer Morris would probably just do the basics. Twelve o'clock. Don't forget."

Harry nodded. "I won't forget."

How could Harry forget, Lily had been reminding Harry of the appointment for the last week.

Lily headed out to the hall, towards the front door. She returned with her handbag on her shoulder and the car keys in her hand.

"Alright, I'm working in the lab today. I'll see you at St. Mungo's and we'll go to the appointment together."

While Harry had the 'I'm 16 and should be fine by myself' argument on the tip of his tongue, he nodded and said, "Okay, Mum."

Lily smiled and leaned over to kiss Harry on the head. "We'll go get lunch afterward, okay?"

"Okay."

One more kiss on the head and Lily headed out the back door. Once the door closed Harry sighed in relief and finished his breakfast.

"Am I supposed to clean my mess up?" Sirius asked out loud when he realized it was just him and Harry.

"Mum's number one kitchen rule, you make the mess, you clean it up," Harry replied, before popping a bite of sausage in his mouth.

Sirius dished out his breakfast and headed to the table and sat down in front of Harry.

"Why are you going to the healer again? I thought you went last week and Healer Morris said that you were the healthiest sixteen-year-old he's seen."

"Dragon pox vaccination," Harry said.

"Oh."

Harry finished his breakfast and drank the rest of his orange juice. He returned to the table with another scone. He kept Sirius company while he finished his breakfast and waited until Sirius had left for work to head upstairs to shower and change. Glancing at the clock, Harry groaned. He had almost four hours to kill.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

"Hey, Dad."

James looked from his report as Harry entered his office. Glancing at the clock, James asked. "Don't you have a healer appointment today?"

Harry sat down, heavily in the leather chair in front of James's desk. "Yeah, it's in two hours."

James nodded. Lily had been reminding them about the appointment for a week. Harry went to the healer last week for his yearly physical, Healer Morris on one day, and Dr. Jacobs the next. Harry couldn't wait until he turned 18 and could drop Dr. Jacobs.

Looking up James asked, "Didn't you go last week?"

"Yeah, but they didn't have a vaccine that I needed. Mum made the appointment."

"Do you know what it's for?" James inquired.

"Dragon pox I think Mum said." Harry leaned his head back, looking up at the gray ceiling. "Do I really need it?"

"Yes, you do," James said, his tone making Harry look at him. "Your grandparents died from Dragon Pox. Granted, they were older, but it's still important for you to get the vaccine."

Harry's head snapped up, looking at James. He didn't know that his grandparents died from Dragon Pox. He remembered when he had the vaccine when he was five. Lily promised ice cream afterward and a treat of Harry's choice. He also remembered feeling sick to his stomach that evening and Lily said it was a side effect of the vaccine. Because Harry had a family history of Dragon Pox, it was important for him to get the vaccine.

It was more of a precaution, even though with Lily being Muggleborn, there was still a chance for Harry to get Dragon Pox.

"I figured. Maybe it won't be as bad as the first time."

"I remember that. I sat in that chair in your room and read The Tale of the Three Brothers until you went to sleep." James smiled at the memory and hoped that the upset stomach didn't repeat it's self this time around.

"I vaguely remember that. You did it so many times that it's hard to tell them apart."

Ruby, James's secretary, came in the room with a note for James and a file under her arm. "Oh, hello Harry. James, Dawlish dropped this file off for you and Tonks sent this message for you. I also added your time off for this coming weekend."

"Thank you, Ruby," James said, smiling at his secretary. Lily had discovered her, looking for a receptionist job at St. Mungo's and when she learned they weren't hiring, Lily redirected her to the Ministry and to James's office. She was amazingly good at her job.

Catching the confused look on his son's face, James explained, "Your mother and I are going on a romantic retreat this weekend."

Now realizing that he knew about it, Harry nodded. "I'm staying with Sirius right?"

"No, Sirius is staying with you," James corrected. He looked at the clock and realized it was now eleven fifteen.

"Uh, Son, do you know what time it is?" James inquired.

Harry followed James's gaze to the clock and said a few words that if Lily heard him, she would be washing his mouth out.

"Mum will kill me if I'm late. Bye, Dad."

James chuckled at his son, he hoped that things went well today and the vaccine didn't cause Harry to get sick.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

Lily stretched when she exited the potion room. She had been working for four hours straight and was looking forward to her shift being over. She loved her job. During the school year, she worked at Hogwarts as a healer in the hospital wing, occasionally brewing potions just to keep her hand in it. During the summer, she worked as a healer in which department, she was needed or she brewed potions in the lab. Today, she was working in the lab.

"I've never seen so many parents with young children before in my life," a healer commented, as he was heading to the Magical Bug department. Lily was following right behind him.

"Glen, for those that are five years old, it's time to have their vaccination for Dragon Pox," Lily informed him, slightly leaning against the wall, waiting for the lift. "And the booster when they turn sixteen."

"Isn't your son sixteen?"

"Yes," Lily answered. She checked her watch. "Appointment is at noon today."

"Is it going to cost you?" Janice asked. Janice was a friend of Lily's since she started working for St. Mungo's when Harry went to school full time. Janice was also familiar with the antics that James and Harry pulled. Lily had told her that it costs her a chocolate frog if she gave Harry an immunity potion, sometimes two.

"I promised lunch after," Lily replied. The lift dinged and the voice told them that they had reached the Magical Bugs floor and the paediatric ward. Lily approached the paediatric ward and followed the arrows that lead to the paediatric healers' offices. When she reached the one for Healer Morris, she opened the door. She walked in and started to look around for her son.

Not finding him, she approached the desk.

"Hello Wilma, is Harry here?" Lily asked the welcome witch.

"Yes, Lily. The mediwitch brought him back already."

"Oh." Lily was surprised, but then she looked around the waiting room and seen why. Most of the waiting room was filled with sick children varying from different illnesses. Healer Morris was a healer who sees children from birth to age seventeen. Lily knew that when Harry turned seventeen next year, he would need to switch. She already had the healer James saw in mind. She thought that maybe she could make an appointment with Healer Jackson for Harry when he was home for Christmas or Easter, so Harry could get used to the new healer.

A mediwitch lead Lily to the exam room where Harry was. Lily entered the room and found her son, sitting on the exam table.

"I see you didn't forget," she said, before leaning over and kissing his cheek.

"How could I, you reminded me a dozen times yesterday and this morning," Harry replied.

Lily looked at her son, noticing how nervous Harry seemed. "Are you alright?"

Harry nodded. "I'm fine."

Lily sat down in the chair beside the table. She watched as Harry drummed his fingers on his jean-clad knee.

A knock at the door brought their attention to Healer Morris entering the room. "Hello, how are we doing today?"

"Fine," Harry replied, with a sigh.

"I see we're here for the Dragon Pox booster?" the healer read from Harry's file.

"That's correct," Lily replied.

"Alright then." Healer Morris turned to Harry leaning against the counter. "Do you have any questions about the vaccine?" he asked his patient.

"No," Harry answered, honestly.

"Okay, I know you were just here for your yearly check-up, so I'll do a quick check-up today."

Harry watched as the healer waved his wand around him and then in green glowing letters and numbers, his vitals appeared beside him.

"Temperature is normal, blood pressure is good, and your pulse is the same as it was last week," the healer recited as he wrote down the vitals on Harry's chart. "Lay back and I'll do a diagnostic charm."

Harry laid back on the exam table, watching as Healer Morris waved his wand over him from the top of his head down to his feet. He repeated the charm one more time before telling Harry he can sit up.

"Everything, okay?" Lily asked, getting up and fixing the back of Harry's hair.

"Like I said last week, he's healthy as can be for a sixteen-year-old. I'll go and get the vaccine. I'll be right back."

Harry swallowed thickly. He hated shots but knew he didn't have a choice. He had seen pictures of Dragon Pox and heard from some of his friends at school that had it that it was really gross.

Healer Morris returned with the vaccine. "Okay, now let's get this taken care of and then you can be on your way."

Harry didn't say anything but pulled up the sleeve of his left arm.

"Stick me," he said.

Healer Morris chuckled and muttered a disinfecting spell at the spot he was going to inject the vaccine.

"Ready?" he asked. Harry nodded.

Like before, it burned, but then it cooled. The air of the exam room met the area for a second before a plaster was placed.

"Now, you should be good to go. Just make sure to…"

Harry didn't catch what the healer said, but he knew that Lily was listening attentively. He was trying to keep from moving his arm too much.

"Ready to go?" Lily asked, getting up from her chair and putting her purse on her shoulder.

Harry nodded and hopped down from the exam table, following his mother to the visitor's exit that would take them to Muggle London.

"Do I even need to ask where we're going to eat at?" Lily asked.

"No," Harry replied. They appeared on the streets in Muggle London and walked down the street to the burger place that was one of Harry and James's favorite places to eat.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

Lily had returned to work after she and Harry finished lunch. Settling in her office, Lily began to work on her paperwork for the potions that she had been working on that morning. One of the potions was her improvement on the Pepper-Up Potion. She had already made one that made the drinker remain awake for twelve hours before they would need another dose. This one was now going to available to sell in the potion stores. She had already patented it, so she didn't need to do that.

But for her improvement on the Wolfsbane potion, she did. The only thing she did was add a few of the main ingredients from the pain potion for pain relief. It didn't affect the potion itself but made it taste just a tad better. She had just signed her name to the Wolfsbane patent when Janice came in her office.

"I see you're back. How's Harry?" She asked, sitting down in the armchair beside Lily's desk.

"He's alright. Arm's a little sore. I gave him a pain potion before he left. We went and got lunch and talked before we came back here. I came back to work and he came back with me to use the floo. I sent him to the Leaky to get James some lunch and to take it to him since I know James will be too busy to get something himself. Then he was going home once he finished my errand. I think he'll be spending some time on the couch once he's home."

Janice chuckled. She had admired Lily for dealing with all of the men in her life.

"I hope I'm a good Mum like you one day," Janice said, suddenly. She had just found out she was pregnant with her first baby.

Lily grinned. "Thank you." She paused as she looked at a picture of Harry on her desk. In a matter of weeks, he would be back to Hogwarts for his sixth year. She missed him being little. She now had to look up at him instead of down.

"I sometimes feel like I'm not doing a good job and that I'm doing something wrong," Lily confessed in a low voice. Then she smiled. "Then Harry comes up to me and hugs me and says thanks for something or hugs me, just because or does something nice for me and then those thoughts are gone."

Janice leaned forward, reaching for Lily's hand. She gave it a gentle squeeze. "You're a great Mum and Harry is a great kid. He's more mature than some of the teenagers I see coming in here every day."

Lily knew her friend was correct. She had said that Harry was more mature because he was an only child and had spent a lot of time around adults. Harry's shyness had prevented him from having a lot of friends in primary school.

"You will be a great Mum, Janice. My advice to you is to cherish the time you have with your child when they're young." She looked at a picture of Harry at age five on her desk, standing in front of the sign of St. Grogory's Primary School on his first day of school. They moved to Potters Bar the following summer after Harry finished school. Then she looked at the most recent picture of Harry, taken over Easter break. "Because they grow up too fast."

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

Harry laid on the couch in the family room, watching a show on the television. He had thought about flooing to the Burrow to spend some time with Ginny, but he didn't know if he would be getting sick from the Dragon Pox vaccine and didn't want to get sick at the Burrow. Although the bonus of him getting sick at the Burrow would be Ginny taking care of him.

Deciding it would be best if he stuck around the house for the rest of the day, he made himself comfortable on the couch.

He was still there when Lily came through the floo an hour later.

"Harry?" she called from the sitting room.

"Family room," Harry replied. He straightened himself up from his slouched position on the couch and put his feet on the floor so Lily wouldn't see them on her coffee table.

"Are you alright, sweetheart?" She inquired, upon entering the family room and seeing Harry on the couch.

"I'm alright, Mum. Just thought I'd take it easy for the rest of the day."

Lily knew that Harry was waiting for the side effects of the Dragon Pox vaccine to kick in. Upset stomach was one of the main side effects and any stomach upset seemed to make Harry's stomach cramp.

"Okay," Lily said, relief, filling her for the moment. "I'm going to go, take the potion ingredients that I picked up, down to the basement, and then I'm going to go change. Then I'll start something for supper. I got some chicken. I might bake some with a little bit of pasta." Lily's voice trailed off as she headed downstairs to the basement.

Harry looked to see if Lily had gone down to the basement, before heading to his father's study. He didn't need to sneak around as he was allowed in James's study. He just didn't want Lily to know what he was looking for. He knew James had a book about their family. Most of the older families had a book on their family history that was self-updating. Harry had only seen the book once for a History of Magic assignment when he was in his second year about their family's history. Of course, Muggleborns were the exception to the assignment, but it was one of the very few times Harry had achieved a higher grade than Poor on a History assignment.

The book wasn't hard to find as it was one of the darker books on the bookshelf, but the lettering color made it brighter.

Opening the book, Harry began to read.

Potter is not an uncommon Muggle surname and it was for this reason that the family didn't make it into the 'Sacred Twenty Eight.' The anonymous compiler of that supposedly definitive list of pure-bloods suspected that they had sprung from what he considered to be tainted blood.

The wizarding family of Potters descends from the twelfth-century wizard Linfred of Stinchcombe, a locally well-beloved and eccentric man, whose nickname, 'the Potterer', became corrupted in time to 'Potter'. Linfred was a vague and absent-minded fellow whose Muggle neighbours often called upon his medicinal services. None of them realized that Linfred's wonderful cures for pox and ague were magical; they all thought him a harmless and lovable old chap, pottering about in his garden with all his funny plants. His reputation as a well-meaning eccentric served Linfred well, for, behind closed doors, he was able to continue the series of experiments that laid the foundation of the Potter family's fortune. Historians credit Linfred as the originator of a number of remedies that evolved into potions still used to this day, including Skele-gro and Pepperup Potion. His sales of such cures to fellow witches and wizards enabled him to leave a significant pile of gold to each of his seven children upon his death.

Linfred's eldest son, Hardwin, married a beautiful young witch by the name of Iolanthe Peverell, who came from the village of Godric's Hollow. She was the granddaughter of Ignotus Peverell. In the absence of male heirs, she, the eldest of her generation, had inherited her grandfather's invisibility cloak. It was, Iolanthe explained to Hardwin, a tradition in her family that the possession of this cloak remained a secret, and her new husband respected her wishes. From this time on, the cloak was handed down to the eldest in each new generation.

The Potters continued to marry their neighbours, occasionally Muggles, and to live in the West of England, for several generations, each one adding to the family coffers by their hard work and, it must be said, by the quiet brand of ingenuity that had characterized their forebear, Linfred.

Occasionally, a Potter made it all the way to London, and a member of the family has twice sat on the Wizengamot: Ralston Potter, who was a member from 1612-1652, and who was a great supporter of the Statute of Secrecy and Henry Potter (Harry to his intimates), who was a direct descendant of Hardwin and Iolanthe, and served on the Wizengamot from 1913 – 1921. Henry caused a minor stir when he publicly condemned, then Minister for Magic, Archer Evermonde, who had forbidden the magical community to help Muggles waging the First World War. His outspokenness on the behalf of the Muggle community was also a strong contributing factor in the family's exclusion from the 'Sacred Twenty-Eight'.

Henry's son was called Fleamont Potter. Fleamont was so named because it was the dying wish of Henry's mother that he perpetuate her maiden name, which would otherwise die out. He bore the burden remarkably well; indeed, he always attributed his dexterity at dueling to the number of times he had to fight people at Hogwarts after they had made fun of his name. It was Fleamont who took the family gold and quadrupled it, by creating magical Sleekeazy's Hair Potion. He sold the company at a vast profit when he retired, but no amount of riches could compensate him or his wife Euphemia for their childlessness. They had quite given up hope of a son or daughter when, to their shock and surprise, Euphemia found that she was pregnant and their beloved boy, James, was born.

Fleamont and Euphemia (Monty and Mia to friends and family) lived to see James marry a Muggle girl, named Lily Evans. But they passed away due to complications of Dragon Pox and their advantage age. They never got to meet their only grandchild.

Harry closed the book and returned it to the shelf. So what James had told him was true, his grandparents did pass away due to Dragon Pox. Lily had said that it was better to get it when younger because the recovery rate was better. Although, there could still be complications.

He walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge, selecting a Diet Coke. He opened the cabinet where Lily kept the snack food and selected a small bag of crisps.

The post was lying on the table and Harry noticed his new Quidditch Quarterly had come in. He picked it up, planning on reading it and eating his snack.

He was halfway up the stairs when Lily came up from the basement.

"Harry?" she called.

"Yeah?" Harry replied.

"I changed my mind. Is spaghetti alright with you for supper?"

"Yeah." He headed into his bedroom, shutting the door behind him. He heard Lily come up and put some potions in his medicine cabinet on his bathroom.

"Harry?" Lily called before knocking on the door.

"Yes?"

"Are you alright?" she asked.

"Yeah."

"Okay, need anything I'll be in the kitchen."

Lily walked downstairs, pausing when she heard the pop can open, and then headed back downstairs and began to piece together supper.

She hoped that Harry didn't have any of the side effects of the vaccine.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

James knocked on Harry's door before entering his son's room.

"Come in," Harry called.

James opened the door and stepped into the room. Harry was sitting in his bed, back against his pillows, reading a book that James didn't remember Harry owning. "How are you feeling, son?"

"I'm okay," Harry replied, trying to keep from losing his patience. Lily had been in five times already to check on him and see if he was alright. It was starting to wear on Harry's nerves.

"Okay."

James pulled the chair from Harry's desk to the bedside, straddling it. "What are you reading?"

Harry turned the cover towards the lamplight. The Giver.

"One of Hermione's recommendations. Ron and I are reading it just she could stop talking about it. I'm about finished with it. I'll be giving it to Ron tomorrow."

James chuckled, knowing that 'giving it to Ron' meant telling Ron the plot and giving him an overview of what happens in the book. As much as Hermione tried, she would never get Ron interested in books.

"Dad, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure?"

"Even though I got the vaccine, can I still get Dragon Pox?" Harry asked.

"Does this have something to do with knowing what happened to your grandparents?" James countered.

"Well, it's just that knowing this is what took their life makes me…."

Harry was cut off when James moved from the chair from Harry's desk to the edge of his bed. James had an inkling of what Harry was going to say.

"Harry, your grandparents were old is why they didn't survive their bout of Dragon Pox. You're younger, a lot younger than they were. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. But I would ask your Mum about that, though."

Harry nodded, knowing he would have to talk to Lily,

"Dad, I read the history book in your study, the one about the Potter family. I was named after Great Grandpa Potter?" Harry asked.

"No," James answered. "You're actually named after your Grandpa Evans, only we chose to name you Harry instead of Harold."

"Oh," Harry said.

James reached over and patted his son's shoulder.

"Come on, Mum's got supper ready."

Harry followed James downstairs to the kitchen, stopping at the downstairs bathroom to clean up.

Lily was serving some spaghetti as James came into the kitchen. She looked up at him and smiled. He stopped and pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"Smells good Lily-Flower," he complimented.

Harry came into the kitchen and sat down in his usual chair.

James and Lily made small talk as they talked, discussing the day's event and the rest of the week's schedule. They passed the basket of garlic bread and a garden salad.

"I'll be home tomorrow. I'm going to do some gardening and cleaning. And what are you planning on doing tomorrow, Harry?" Lily asked her son.

"I'm going to spend the day with Ginny," Harry replied, hastily. When Lily mentioned anything about cleaning, Harry and James made a hasty retreat to avoid being assigned a chore. Harry would sometimes willingly volunteer, but if he had a choice, he'd rather disappear.

"Okay, what are you going to go?" Lily asked.

"Either Quidditch or taking her out to the movies." Harry took a sip of the Diet Coke he had got from the refrigerator before Lily had fixed drinks.

Lily nodded and Harry let out a slow breath. James waited until Lily got up and gave Harry a thumb up.

Dessert was served and ate in silence until Harry broke the silence.

"Mum?"

"Yes?"

"Even though I had the vaccine, could I still get Dragon Pox?"

Lily paused and replied, "Although some vaccinated children will still get Dragon Pox, they generally will have a much milder form of the disease, with fewer blisters, lower fever, and a more rapid recovery."

Harry sighed inwardly. "Okay. Thanks."

Lily reached over and took Harry's hand in hers.

"Sweetheart, there is only a small chance of you getting Dragon Pox. But this was a precaution. You may not even get it because I'm Muggleborn."

"Oh," Harry said.

"And if you do get Dragon Pox it would only be a mild form."

"Okay."

"Does this make you feel better?" Lily asked.

"Yeah, it does."

Lily leaned over and kissed Harry's forehead. "I'm glad."

Soon after, Harry excused himself to return to his room and James head upstairs as he needed a shower. Lily began cleaning up the kitchen from dinner and placing leftovers in containers. She thought of going and checking on Harry once she finished, but decided to wait and see if he came to her.

A part of her wondered if Harry would escape the side effects of the Dragon Pox vaccine or would he be one of the unlucky ones and would suffer from the side effects.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

Harry laid in his bed later that night, his back to the door of his room. He had been trying for almost an hour to fall asleep with no success. He sighed and turned to lie on his back, then glancing at the alarm clock on his nightstand. Even without his glasses, Harry could make out the glowing blue numbers. It was eleven forty-five.

His stomach rumbled, making him sigh.

"What is your problem?" Harry asked, lifting his head off his pillow to look down at his abdomen. His stomach rumbled again and Harry sighed once more before throwing the over off of him and he padded into the bathroom.

He flipped on the light and managed to look for a stomach soother. Even though he could see up close, it was difficult to read the print on the vials without his glasses. He tried to read the vials and figure out if it said stomach soother or headache relief.

"Need some help?" a voice to his right asked.

Harry glanced over and was able to make out his mother's red hair.

"Do you need a stomach soother?" she asked.

"Yeah," Harry admitted.

"Go back to bed, sweetheart. I'll be there in a minute," Lily directed. Harry nodded and shuffled his way back to bed.

Lily came in his room a minute later with a stomach soother in her hand and a bottle of water.

"When did your stomach feel upset?" Lily asked.

"It just started before I went to bed at eleven," Harry explained, taking the vial from his mother. The lid was off and the seal was broken already, so Harry brought the vial to his lips and swallowed the cherry flavored stomach soother. He traded the vial with his mother for a bottle of water. He twisted the lid off and sipped the cool water slowly.

"Feel better?"

"Yeah," Harry replied. He laid back down in his bed, feeling Lily tuck the summer weight quilt around him. She kissed his cheek and pushed back stray hair away from his face.

"Goodnight, sweetheart. I love you," Lily murmured as she stood up.

"I love you too, Mum."

Lily waited a minute before she heard the soft snores coming from her son, telling her he had fallen asleep. She quietly left her son's room and walked back to her bedroom.

She had just climbed into bed when she heard, "Is he okay?"

Lily turned her head and glanced over her shoulder. "He's fine, just needed a stomach soother."

She had gotten up to double-check that she had turned off the stove in the kitchen from making her and James a late-night cup of tea when she noticed the light in Harry's bathroom on. She figured he needed a potion and went to check on him. She had been correct in her guess and sent Harry back to bed before he made a mess of knocking over potions and creating a mess in the bathroom that would, in turn, have to spend the whole of the next morning brewing potions to once again restock Harry's bathroom.

She lay awake for over an hour, just in case Harry needed her. When the hour passed and Harry didn't call for her or come in the bedroom, she went to sleep.
