Chapter 1: The Beginning of The End

Sirius Black sat stewing in the parlor of 12 Grimmauld Place. He shook in rage when he thought back on the previous nights events.

He was waiting for Remus to show up. he had sent him an owl as soon as he could after leaving Hogwarts several hours previously. Sirius paced as he waited for his friend to show up. He could probably have busied himself with something to pass the time but he was too distracted. Memories of the previous night plagued him endlessly.

'Voldemort was such a coward. A grown man versus a child was his version of fair. He was disgusting' Sirius thought, loathing him. 'And Peter. He was there. He helped. Like he hadn't done enough already.'

Sirius grimaced as he downed the remains of an amber liquid.

'Merlin, where is Remus?' Sirius wondered as he peered out into the street in front of his childhood home. It was 5:45am when he heard a commotion on the front steps. Sirius watched as the front door opened to reveal an ill looking Remus Lupin. Remus started,

"Padfoot- before being cut off by the horrific screams of Walburga Black. "WAREWOLF FILTH, HOW DARE YOU STEP FOOT IN THE MOST NOBLE HOUSE OF BLACK!!"

"SHUT UP, YOU MISERABLE COW!" Sirius howled back at his mothers portrait.

"Sorry, she's fowl." Sirius apologized to his friend.

Remus looked at him shocked. "Merlin Padfoot! What's going on?"

"Wait, you've not heard anything?" Sirius questioned him.

"Padfoot, all I know is what you told me in your note! Remus replied, more frantic now.

"Voldemort is back. Meet me at 12 Grimmauld Place." Remus added, reiterating his friends note.

"I figured you saw what happened at the tournament last night." Sirius questioned.

"It was the full moon, I just got back to my flat an hour ago, came here as soon as I could travel." Remus explained. "Sirius, what happened!" Remus continued.

"C'mon, you better sit down." Sirius said, walking back into the parlor.

Remus sat next to Sirius. "Sirius, please tell me that Harry is okay?" Remus asked, ashen faced.

"Harry is okay, I've seen him. Spent most of the night with him and Dumbledore."

"Merlin, what happened." Remus asked, horrified. He knew whatever happened must have been bad if Sirius had been at Hogwarts most of the night.

Sirius tried to explain what happened the best he could.

After a few more minutes, Remus responded.

"My god. Voldemort and Peter." Remus was frozen in rage. He had known for years that Peter was a coward, and a horrible human being. But, this was so much worse.

"He killed the kid, right in front of him, Remus. Didn't even blink. Voldemort gave the order, Peter dutifully obliged." Sirius explained, seething with hatred.

Remus couldn't even find words to describe his hatred for Peter. And Harry, poor Harry. He couldn't stop imagining the horror Harry had experience in that graveyard.

"Harry told us Voldemort made him duel him. Acted like the whole thing was a game, taunted him the whole time, screamed at him. He made a child fight him Remus. And, he acted like it was justice." Sirius said, shaking in anger.

if Remus had looked bad before, he looked positively ghastly now. Harry had to play along with Voldemort' macabre game. The very thought disgusted him.

"Where's the bathroom." Remus asked standing up.

Sirius gestured towards the hallway. Remus rushed from the parlor into the hall. Sirius could hear him dry heaving and vomiting in the bathroom. Sirius had seen Remus get sick like that after the full moon before on some occasions, but he strongly suspected it had a lot more to do with the story he had just been told, than his lycanthropy.

The story Harry had told him and Dumbledore, was something straight from a nightmare. It was a horror beyond imagination. It had taken a lot of strength not to break down right there in Dumbledore's office. Especially after he heard what Peter had done, he wasn't just a traitor, he was a full blown Death Eater. He hated him. He'd kill him with his bare hands if he could.

Eventually, Remus came back into the parlor, allowing them to continue talking.

"Dumbledore wants us to start getting the order back together. Said to spread the word." Sirius explained. Remus shook his head in understanding.

"I'll let Emmeline and the Weasley' know, Ashlee too. Remus said.

"Good, they'll want to help." Sirius replied.

"So you know. Fudge, he doesn't believe Harry. Looks like we might be going up against the minestry." Sirius added.

"What do you mean he doesn't believe him?" Remus asked, incredulously.

"He says he thinks that Harry was just in shock, doesn't remember what happened right." Sirius explained.

"Ridiculous." Remus said.

Sirius just shook his head.

"So what now?" Remus asked.

"We send out owls to the order, then we wait, I suppose." Sirius said.

~

That afternoon Sirius found himself in the kitchen. Remus had been resting most of the day so he had been left alone with his thoughts. Thoughts of his godson, thoughts of the future, of the past, of Azkaban. Sirius shuddered just thinking about the Latter.

Remus had sent owls out to all the past Order members, and Sirius was eagerly waiting to hear back. Sitting back and waiting was never really Sirius' strong suit, but now he found it even harder.

After a few more minutes, Sirius was pulled from his thoughts by the shrill shrieks of his mother's portrait. Sirius bolted into the front hallway to see Ashlee Worbucks. Ashlee had been a member of the order during the first war. She was also one of the few people who knew the truth about Sirius.

"So, what's going on, Remus was annoying non specific in his note." Ashlee explained, as she followed Sirius to the kitchen.

"Voldemort is back." He said. Getting straight to the point.

"Merlin. How much do we know?" Ashlee asked, concerned.

Sirius went into telling her all about what happened in the graveyard to Harry.

"Harry didn't recognize the graveyard did he?" Ashlee questioned.

"Apparently not, but he said the Riddle family was buried there. Seemed to mean something to Dumbledore. Sent Snape to see if he could track him down."

Ashlee nodded, deep in thought.

The pair continued talking for several more minutes, before Remus came down stairs to join them both in the kitchen.

AN: okay, this first one is kinda short, it gets better, I promise.
