I'll Try.

Tonks sat in the shadows beyond the forest of the McNair's home. She was waiting for Remus to show up, while watching the house across from her.

"Hey" Tonks heard a small voice say.

she turned to see Remus.

Tonks patted the spot in the blanket next to her, causing Remus to come sit with her.

"Wotcher Remus!" Tonks whispered. Tonks then put up charms around them to make sure no one would be able to see or hear them.

"Hi. How's your arm?" Remus asked.

"It's getting better!" She explained, showing off her sling free arm.

"I'm glad." Remus told her.

Noticing she was cold, Remus put his cloak around her. Tonks slipped into his warm cloak, snuggling against him.

"What are they doing in there?" Tonks questioned, gesturing over to the glass doors exposing the kitchen. Inside they could see McNair arguing with Lucius Malfoy.

"They looked quite pissed with each other." Remus commented.

"Mmhhhmm" tonks murmured in agreement.

Tonks and Remus watched the argument continue for several more minutes.

"I can't make it all out but they are talking about you-know-who. I heard them say his name." Remus mentioned.

eventually Lucius left, leaving just McNair and his wife in their kitchen. Walden McNair was the ministry' executioner, and was not a well liked individual at all. Tonks still couldn't understand how someone like him could have a wife. He was horrible.

Tonks watched McNair with his wife. She glanced over at Remus who was also watching them. She wondered if he could hear them talking.

"Can you hear them?" She asked.

"A little bit. They have music on though so it makes it harder to hear."

"I think they are talking about Lucius right now." He added.

Tonks thought it was cool that Remus could hear so well. She bit her lip and wondered what else he was good at...

"Oh Merlin. No" Remus said. Tonks looked over at the couple. McNair was saying something to his wife, he had a nasty look on his face, it completely unnerved her.

"What is it?" Tonks asked.

"Oh, their going to shag!" Remus whispered, disgusted.

"What?!?" Tonks squeaked. Looking over she saw McNair throw his wife down on the table, furiously ripping at her clothes.

"Eeeeew. But he's so gross." Tonks said, looking over to Remus.

"I know." Remus said, laughing at her observation.

"Ugh." Tonks said. Burying her face into Remus's chest to avoid not having to watch McNair nailing his wife on the dining room table.

Remus focused on Tonks to avoid the gross thought of death eaters having sex, which just seemed plain wrong to him.

She was playing with his fingers, stroking them with her own. He moved his hand, rubbed her hand reassuringly

looking up at him, she sucked on her pink bottom lip.

She hugged him. 'Is he trying?' she thought with a smile.

A loud noise brought her back to the present. She looked over. A ton of food and plates had fallen off the table where Walden was viciously shagging his wife.

"Ew." She said. Remus gave her an amused smirk.

"It's gross because their death eaters." She clarified.

"So your saying if they were not death eaters and were normal folk it wouldn't be gross?" He teased her.

"Well, granted I still wouldn't want to watch, but it wouldn't be gross with normal people I suppose." Tonks exclaimed.

Remus chuckled at her. "Okay, that's fair." He told her.

Tonks shivered a little bit. Remus rubbed her shoulders. "Want some?" He asked, offering her some chocolate.

Tonks murmured her appreciation, taking the candy from him.

she ended up taking another blanket out of her bag and wrapped it around them. She was very grateful that Remus was always so warm.

Eventually Tonks started to get tired.

"Long day?" Remus teased.

"Kinda, yeah. Worked eight hours at the ministry then slept for two hours, then came here."

Remus looked surprised. "You don't have to work tomorrow do you?" He asked.

"Remus, tomorrow is thanksgiving." She said, laughing at him.

"I know, but not everyone here celebrates, the ministry doesn't." He explained.

"My dads parents were from America so I'm use to celebrating. And, Sirius invited me to his birthday party like a month ago so I promised I'd go."

Remus smiled at her. He was happy he'd get to see her again the next day.

~

Tonks was sitting on the kitchen table in the basement of Grimmauld place.

"So you're telling me. You and Moony had to watch the McNair' shagg?!?" Sirius howled in laughter, doubling over in a fit.

"No! We actively tried not to watch! It was really gross." Tonks said laughing, sipping her drink.

"That's horrific. And, I'm so upset I missed it."

Sirius sighed. He really was a rebel and a mutineer at heart. He clearly missed the action.

"Only place I'm stationed these days is here." Sirius grumbled.

"Hey!" Tonks scolded him. "You won't be any help if you're thrown back in Azkaban, Sirius."

Sirius nodded. He knew she was right, but it didn't make staying in the house all day anymore pleasant.

Remus could hear Tonks and Sirius down in the kitchen as he made his way down stairs. He smiled thinking about Tonks. Remus came into the kitchen, noticing Tonks immediately.

She donned lilac hair, and wore light gray Tattersall fitted ankle pants, that had a drawstring at the top. She paired this with a long sleeve black shirt and a cropped black denim vest.

He smiled at her.

"Hey." He greeted them both.

"Moony!" Sirius shouted. He Clearly had started drinking early.

"Padfoot...it's 11am." Remus smirked at his old friend.

Sirius shrugged. "I know what time it is. We're having brunch." Sirius said, shaking his glass around.

"You're not allowed to have whiskey for breakfast. and call it brunch." Remus chuckled at his friend fondly.

"Don't ruin our fun." Sirius said, trying to sound serious.

Remus smiled at him. "Don't worry, I won't." Remus went to sit down at the table, looking at the newspaper.

"By the way, how could you not tell me about having to watch McNair shag his wife?!?" Sirius barked. "That's the best gossip I've heard In ages Moony."

"Well it was horrendous." Remus said. "I was trying to block it out."

Sirius roared in laughter.

"same." Tonks agreed. "But you know. I realized later, that I'm pretty sure a death eater has a better sex life than I do."

Sirius continued with his laughter.

"How so?" He asked, humored.

"Well I mean he's actually having sex. So that's how." Tonks chuckled, taking a sip of her drink. "Not a lot of time for that during a war"

Sirius looked at her pointedly.

"Seems the death eaters are finding the time."

"Well hopefully that means they are not working as hard as we are." Remus added.

Tonks nodded.

"Or, it might mean that you guys are boring." Sirius said, enjoying himself. Remus interjected.

"Don't listen to him, giving his friends a hard time is one of his favorite pastimes. Clearly old habits die hard."

Sirius rolled his eyes. "Moony, just because I enjoy it, doesn't mean what I'm saying isn't true."

Remus chuckled at his friend. "Whatever you say Padfoot."

The three sat talking for a while longer, eventually Emmeline also showed up, occupying Sirius' attention.

After a little while longer, Sirius had disappeared with his guest. It was certainly no secret where they went or why.

Tonks decided to go and join Remus over at the counter. He had been making food for awhile. Tonks found the whole thing fascinating.

"Whatcha Doing?" She asked, leaning against the kitchen counter.

"I'm making a pie, do you want to help?" Remus questioned.

"I don't know how." She explained. "Maybe, it could be one of the things that you teach me." She said, smiling at him.

"Okay, I'll teach you." He told her. He helped he put an apron on. He thought she looked adorable.

"Okay! Am I ready!?" She asked.

" You're perfect." Remus told her. Tonks smiled up at him. He clearly hadn't been talking about the apron.

"What kind of pie are we making?"

"Pumpkin." He explained.

Tonks nodded, as he explained the steps to make the pie.

After a few minutes Remus looked over at Tonks and snickered. Her fingers and face was covered in flour.

"You have flour on your face." Remus said, chuckling at her.

"Here, let me help you." He added, using his hand to wipe the flour off of her cheek.

"Thank you." She said, leaning up a little to kiss him on the cheek briefly. She wasn't sure how he would respond.

He looked shocked, and cautious but happy about it.

He smiled a little before getting back to work on the food.

"You know, don't listen to Sirius. You're definitely not boring." Remus told her.

"Thank you." She smiled at him. "But, he might be right. The McNair' are gross. But, I've never really experienced the type of passion with someone where you just had to have them. Right there in the kitchen."

"Maybe that will change for you." Remus said, optimistically.

Tonks murmured. "Mmmm. Is that a promise?"

She asked him suggestively.

Remus looked at her, eyes wide. Remus stayed quiet for a few seconds, contemplating what to say.

Remus just smiled a little, but stayed quiet.

'was that a yes?.' Tonks thought, she was pleased. She wanted to see what would happen. She slipped in between Remus and the counter. Putting her arms around his neck. kissing him softly on the lips . Remus reciprocated for a second or two, but then pulled back and looked at her.

"What, you don't like it?" She asked curiously.

"I do."

"What's wrong then?" She asked, stroking his arm.

"Tonks- we- we can't." He stuttered, flustered.

Remus tried to focus on their conversation and her question, but the wolf could smell her arousal.

Remus sighed heavily, realizing what she really wanted to spend the afternoon doing with him.

"Tonks." He started. "We've never talked about that." He continued.

"And we haven't even been on a date." He said, trying to keep his resolve.

"We could talk about it. And you could ask me on a date, I'd say yes." Tonks told him.

Remus kissed her on the temple. "we can talk about it later."

"Okay." she replied. She was slightly disappointed, and confused though.

She had a feeling he was dismissing her.

But, Tonks felt she certainly had weakened Remus resolve. it appeared it was just going to take a long time. she huffed.

Eventually, Remus returned to his tasks, busying himself.

~

Later that night, tonks and Remus were enjoying spending time with Molly and Arthur and Kingsley in the parlor. Bill and Charlie had also. Joined in on the fun as well. Meanwhile, Sirius and Emmeline had naturally disappeared upstairs again.

Kingsley had struck up a conversation with Remus, and Tonks decided it would be a good time to go get another drink. tonks was feeling clumsier than normal.

"Woah." She said, stumbling down the hallway towards the kitchen.

She felt an arm slip around her a little. "Be careful drunky." Remus whispered to her.

Tonks giggled. "No promises."

Remus shook his head at her. She watched him tidy up quickly, before going back to join him in the front parlor with the Weasleys and Kingsley.

Soon, Molly had anounced that they would be going home, and Kingsley followed shortly after that. This left Tonks and Remus together on the sofa.

"Remus?" Tonks questioned.

"Mmm." He responded, looking over at her.

She smiled, before getting up and making her way over to the bar stand for more wine. Remus couldn't help but be continually amused by her.

"Do you want a drink?" Tonks asked him.

Remus smiled coyly at her. "I'll take a bourbon."

"You're a little drunk." He continued, eying her as she made her way back to sit with him.

Tonks shrugged, and almost tripped.

"Come sit with me, before you fall." Remus told her.

"You just want me to come sit with you."

He smiled at her comment. "Maybe. Two things can be true."

Tonks came over and cuddled up next to him.

Tonks could hear Emmeline and Sirius upstairs laughing with each other.

Remus shook his head at his friends antics.

"We could go upstairs too." Tonks suggested coyly.

Remus sighed, shocked. "You don't really want that." He said quickly.

"Why would I have asked then?"

Remus sighed again. She had a fair point.

"You can have anyone you want.."

tonks gave him a pointed look. "1. That's not true. 2. I'm attracted to you though, not everyone else."

Remus was always surprised by her. she was amazing. 'It's you that's the issue. Monsters don't make good boyfriends.' He thought to himself.

He didn't respond. After a few more seconds she spoke up.

"What are you thinking about." She mused.

"You probably don't want to know...I don't have very nice thoughts about myself sometimes."

Tonks rubbed his arm. she didn't like that he felt so negatively about himself.

"It's just that i worry you don't understand. You only ever see me with our friends and the other members of the order. A werewolf isn't exactly a good dinner companion to bring home to meet your parents."

Tonks sighed. "They are a good companion, if the company is you."

Remus looked at her. She certainly gave him a lot to think about.

He huffed.

"Your too kind." He said.

His next statement came out before he even had a chance to realize what he was saying.

"Look, the most I could ever promise Is that I'll try."

Tonks smiled a little. She had been right.

"He was trying." She thought.
